What an incredible Director December we have so far at The Movie Calendar where we have sung the praises of one of cinemas most prolific film makers.
Quentin Tarantino got to play with genres, for the making of KILL BILL, that you can tell he has nothing but the upmost respect for. His entry into the kung-fu world left a mark in cinema that is to be respected as much as it is to be celebrated. And that is what we are here to do.
Listen along as we tie a bow on this celebratory month with KILL BILL Vol. 2 and go through it chapter by chapter. We got a little carried away, but are very happy with this episode for you to enjoy.
Happy New Year!

The Movie Calendar never says “die”... except for when we are quoting THE GOONIES. This week we are taking a trip into the 1980’s with an adventure of epic proportions. With names like Donner, Spielberg, Columbus and Kennedy behind the camera it starts to make sense as to why this film is so full of wonder and excitement.
We talk about how perfectly cast this film is from the Goonies themselves to the villains of the story before getting to the regular segments of What About When and adding the film to The Movie Calendar.
Stick around until the end for an exciting December announcement! Or don’t, I’m not your boss.

Who would’ve thought that a film about bank-robbing surfers being hunted by the FBI could have so many philosophical and spiritual motifs? Kathryn Bigelow did.
This week we hit the beach and dive into the majestic world of POINT BREAK. This early 90’s action classic cemented Keanu Reeves as a star and introduced the world to Patrick Swayze’s bank-robbing, charismatic and philosophical Bodhi. This was a fun episode to research and record, there are a lot interesting stories about the making of this film that we discovered and discuss this week. We are happy to announce that we have NOT added any more expletives to THE DEPARTED. We’re just as shocked as you are.
This week sees The Movie Calendar fall on the year of the rat with Leigh and Terence going deep undercover to discuss Martin Scorsese’s crime/drama THE DEPARTED. With an all-star cast that rivals last week’s film, THE DEPARTED is a remake of the Chinese (Cantonese) film INFERNAL AFFAIRS (2002) and tells the story of two moles operating from within opposing sides of the law whose job is to find out who their counterpart is before being discovered themselves.
It’s only fitting that the longest film to appear on The Movie Calendar (thus far) gets the longest episode (again, thus far). Listen along as we discuss how the film brings out some of the best performances ever captured on celluloid, how well developed the script is and how well realised the characters with regards to the environment they’re in.
Where will THE DEPARTED end up on The Movie Calendar? You don’t have to go undercover to find out.

A little Haiku to start us off. Clears throat
Taika Waititi’s
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
On The Movie Cal...
And, er, that’s it for the Haiku portion of the description for this episode. Now onto the main event.
HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE follows the story of 13 year old Ricky Baker who has a chance at a new life with a new family out in the New Zealand wilderness with a loving foster family until tragedy strikes and he’s forced to go on the run with his gruff Uncle Hector.
As you’re about to find out this is a film that we both adore - a bit of a theme for this series - and we’re so excited to share our thoughts with you. So make some sausages, get your hot water bottle and come on a journey of discovery into Taika’s brilliant New Zealand comedy. It’s the most skux film on The Movie Calendar.

That’s right Wood-chuck-chuckers it’s GROUNDHOG DAY!
This week we try out a new format based off feedback from you in an attempt to shorten the podcast. Did it work? No. Will we keep trying? YES!
Listen along as we discuss one of cinemas most classic comedies in this story about a man who finds himself trapped in a small town and forced to live the same day over and over again. GROUNDHOG DAY is a simple premise executed perfectly, with so much humour and heart you cannot help but be transported into this world and think about what you would do if in the same situation.
No points for guessing where GROUNDHOG DAY fits onto The Movie Calendar. However be sure to stick around until the end to hear about the film that will be discussed next week.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
Would you believe us if we said that we genuinely thought this episode was going to be drastically shorter than the last? No? Fair enough. I guess the parallels to The Lord of the Rings continue.
In this weeks episode we take our first journey into the world of Pixar and discuss a formative film for both us from two very different perspectives. INSIDE OUT tells the story of 11 year old Riley whose life gets turned upside down when her family moves from their small Upper Midwest town to San Francisco, all shown through the lens of the colourful characters that live inside her head - Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust.
Where will INSIDE OUT appear on The Movie Calendar? Will tears be shed? Can Terence justify the comments he made in last weeks episode [Episode 1 - PARASITE]? Will we be able to stop asking rhetorical questions? All the answers lie before you.

In this inaugural episode of The Movie Calendar we have decided to take on the gargantuan task of talking about Bong Joon Ho’s multiple award winning film PARASITE. Listen along as we break down the film, and its techniques, whilst generally just gush over the incredible piece of cinema that it is and its importance. Where will PARASITE end up on The Movie Calendar? Join our Fellowship and embark on this journey with us to find out.
