A New Reality: Recent Episodes

COVID-19 has turned the whole world on it's ear and Owen and his dad Matt have decided to tell their stories about how social distancing and sheltering at home in Connecticut has changed things. Their household has two parents, a 6 and 7 year old sisters and an 11 year old first year middle school-er. Our hope is that you identify with what we discuss and see it in your own family. Sometimes serious, sometimes funny, we talk about how we are trying to stay sane and not kill each other within our four walls.

Owen biked by a protest and only did not join in because he did not have a mask.  It was a protest by our police station and was not large, but Owen was moved enough to talk to his friend about it.  Matt told Owen about a 90 minute meeting he had at work about racism and how it moved him.

It's been a few weeks since Owen and his Dad Matt got together and Owen had a lot on his mind.  It's two people in the suburbs giving their thoughts on the state of the United States.

Owen spent his 12th birthday in isolation.  We did invite some family friends over for a basketball game, in violation of social distancing.  We also talked how Matt and Owen are both isolating too much and how they need to get their act together and start engaging with the world.

Owen and his dad talked about how the novelty of staying at home has worn off.  There are only so many shows, so many video games and so many dog walks someone can take.  Owen has some anxiety about going back to school after, "Spring Break."  We also talked about fear in reentering society.

Me and my father once again are taking about the struggles  of are new way of life in quarantine. With far more good then bad life is looking up so far but things are not perfect with there still being stress.

Owen and his dad Matt are starting a new podcast for families like us affected by having to hunker down in our house.  We introduce ourselves and talk about what everyone is going through, staying in the house and getting upset, bored and anxious about our new reality in the Coronavirus era.  We talk about hour household of 2 parents, 6 and 7 year old sisters and being the one boy.  Everyone can relate to this so we hope this gives you strength and a chuckle.
