The Carla Rand Show speaks to everyday people who are making a positive impact in this world. People with pain and struggles who have risen above and overcome obstacles, which are often unseen. These are the real heroes. The podcast is hosted by Carla Rand, who is a fitness entrepreneur and dutiful mother of six children. Her goal is to share insights and powerful stories from "ordinary" people, showcasing and inspiring us all towards the truly extraordinary.
What does it take to lose 134 pounds?
Local gym goer, Jason Desjarlais unpacks how he’s accomplished this.
Jason has been on an amazing fitness journey this past year. He’s been inspiring those both in and out of the gym with his hard work, perseverance, and by treating each day like it's Day One.
What do you do when life doesn't play the way you expect?
When the best laid plans tumble out from under us we're often left second guessing everything we thought we knew about ourselves. Andy Petranek has been there.
Andy was riding the high of business success when life took a turn. His reaction changes his whole life. Putting him on a path he never would have expected.
Happy Father's Day!! To celebrate we have a special episode of the show prepared for this week. Cam Hall is a long time friend, fellow coach, and founder of the Dad's making a difference' Podcast. Cam has a real passion for helping men figure out how to get the most out of life. He and I talk over some of the bigger issues, and the smaller ones too. So this episode goes out to all the Dads. We love you and appreciate all that you do.
We all have those dark secrets that we don’t like anyone to know.
For years that’s what binge eating was to me. It’s something I've struggled with for most of my life and it’s no picnic, let me tell ya.
Through ups and many downs I've learned a lot, so I wanted to take a moment to share with you. If you struggle with binge eating, or maybe know someone who does, please share this episode.
You’re not alone.
I love collaborating with other fitness coaches and local and online trainer, Chris Valliere - Kowalchuk has been a joy to get to know.
Chris wanted to get fit and healthy, but for him it took getting a coach to really make a difference.
The process of getting in shape has changed his life. It also helped him discover a love of coaching, and motivated him to start his own practice.
He and I were talking when he suddenly looked at me and said, “you really love fitness don’t you?” Yep, and so does Chris.
Chris' enthusiasm is infectious. Listen in to get inspired and motivated.
I want to introduce you to a very special lady.
This week it's my pleasure to have my long time friend and mentor Diane Stelter on the show. Diane has been a huge influence on my life. She's an amazing woman who has gone through trials and struggles and come out closer to God on the other side.
It's not a long chat, so I hope you listen in. Diane is a well of wisdom, especially if you are struggling right now.
Eating well. What does that even mean?
Between fad diets, school nutrition and Internet food hacks there's a lot to dig through to understand nutrition. Making nutrition work for your lifestyle is even harder.
Marcus Gates knows this. Through his own fitness journey, Marcus has found a real love for coaching. He now specializes in helping people rein in their nutrition and crush their goals.
I really enjoyed this conversation. Marcus and I think on the same wavelength and all that he has to say is worth your time.
What does it mean to be normal?? Normal is different for everybody. Sometimes we miss how inspiring or incredible our lives are just because we see them as normal. Tanya Domshy has that kind of normal. Her normal is going through 16 surgeries over her lifetime to repair a cleft lip and cleft palate. Her normal is successfully changing careers due to health changes. Her normal is choosing to get fit despite a busy life. Her normal is inspiring. I loved talking to Tanya, and I know you'll enjoy hearing her story.
When we go through trauma, it can affect our entire life.
I’ve known Danielle Boos for many years but this is the first time I’ve heard her story.
Danielle is local to my hometown so it was such an honour to sit down with her and have this conversation. She has had a difficult but adventurous life.
She grew up being controlled by fear and anxiety and has a overcome those obstacles through grit, determination and a huge mindset shift.
Danielle had been an MMA fighter, a probation officer, and is now a mom, a model, a coach, and a social worker.
Everyone needs to listen to this episode for some inspirational truths
Great Conversations with interesting people.
That's what this show's all about. This episode personifies that standard.
Darrel Grassl Is someone I didn't know a few month ago, but when he and I got talking, I realized he has a lot of good things to say.
We might not agree on all things but we do agree on one. Pushing yourself to be better can be the biggest form of self love in your life.
What does that mean? Where do you go from there? Listen in to hear more!!
Today's interview is pretty special to me.
I'm interviewing my sister-in-law Brandy McPhee. Brandy is a barrel racer and she's managed to find a way to do what she loves with her family.
She started out riding her moms horse to gymkhana events and now she and her husband Brian have their own horse training business, their kids ride in the rodeo and they’re travelling all over the continent competing and winning.
Congratulations Brandy, Brian and family!
Rodeo can seem like a crazy way to live. What makes a person want to ride a bull for 8 seconds, or ride a horse around barrels at breakneck speeds? It's a strange life, but for those who love it, they wouldn't want it any other way. Jake Gardner is one of those people. Jake is a bull riding champion, who has traveled across North America and beyond for his passion. Today he's giving us a little window into the rodeo lifestyle. He and I also talk a little about the future of rodeo, and about what might help it get back on its feet post pandemic. It's a good, quick conversation, great for rodeo lovers and the generally curious. Enjoy. :)
My interview with fitness and nutrition coach, Shimon Weissman was full. Turns out that when you’re levelling up your life, there’s a lot to cover! In part one we talked about improving your fitness and mental health. In part two we discuss nutrition, emotion, religion, and gender roles. (I always get a bit fired up when I discuss gender roles;) You don't need to have listened to Part 1 to learn from this episode. I’ve been working hard to level up my life so it was refreshing to talk to a fellow Level-Upper. For more information on Shimon listen to his first appearance in episode 59.
What does it even mean to Level up your life?
Of course it's different for everyone, but the basics remain the same.
This week on the show I have returning guest Shimone Weissman. Shimone is a fitness and nutrition coach out of the US, who has an infectious passion for what he does.
This was a great conversation. We cover so much that I'm breaking it into two parts to keep it digestable. Enjoy and be on the lookout for part two. If you wanna get to know Shimone better check out his first appearance in Episode 59.
Don't we all wish that we could eat farm fresh veggies? In today's world it's hard to get a hold of real fresh greens. Jason and Rebecca Trodden are trying to make it easier. Thanks to their inventive greenhouse, poultry and eggs, their business Little Gems Farm is really taking off. Their clients are getting what they need in a healthy, convenient way. We talk about farming, greenhouse management, and what really goes into growing the best food. Listen in and get informed. You can learn more about Jason and Rebecca and their farm at LittleGemsFarm.com
How old is too old to get fit??
I, Like my guest this week, strongly believe that there is no age that is too old to begin your fitness journey. Dr Dan Ritchie is a fitness trainer, businessman and creator of the Functional Ageing Institute.
Dan has built his entire business and philosophy around the idea that your age is can become an excuse when it comes to your physical fitness. He has a real passion for helping people live their lives to the fullest, and is a fountain of knowledge about the subject.
So enjoy this episode, and if you want to learn more about Dan and his company go to FunctionalAgeingInstitute.com.
Sometimes it takes changing the little things in your life to make bigger, lasting changes.
My guest this week is Jonas Plante. Jonas struggled with alcohol addiction for most of his adult life. It took support from his family, and important changes, for him to step out of that life.
So today I'm talking to Jonas about his journey, and about all he does to make the change last.
100 Episodes!!!
I feel so blessed to have made it this far. Thank you all so much for enjoying the show, for you comments and shares and for your encouragement during this wild ride. 100 episodes, 100 guests, and more where that came from.
A huge thank you to my media tech, without which, this could never have happened.
Thank you to my incredible guests, I feel a special bond with each of you. What an honour to hear you share.

Addiction is a very real issue that a lot of people struggle with. The steps to overcoming addiction are hard and varied. Dora Gosselin has gone through these hard steps first hand, and has made it her mission to help others avoid these pitfalls. Her story is inspiring, and her wisdom is greatly appreciated. Dora is an excellent communicator and she adds so much value in this episode. Take some time to listen to today's show. You can hear more from Dora on her own podcast Soberossa, links below. https://www.soberoso.com/podcast-page
What’s it like going to the gym? Full of meat heads? Tough guys? Insecure, competitive women? Harsh judgement and comparison? That’s how a lot of people perceive the gym. And perhaps they’re right. Maybe some gyms are like that. That definitely hasn’t been the case at Golden Gains gym in my hometown of Edson, Alberta. This week's guest is Ashley Thompson, the owner and operator of Golden Gains and someone I've enjoyed getting to know over the past year. I absolutely love training in the gym. I love watching people come in for the first time or the 100th time. Being around so many inspiring, friendly people every day. If you’ve ever had questions about going to the gym, fitness in general, or how to make it fit your lifestyle, you’ll want to listen to today's episode.
What is the role of the church with all that’s going on right now? Jared Schroeder has been a pastor for almost 20 years, and is part of a church that has taken many different approaches to the government mandates. He does an amazing job of breaking things down to what really matters. Whether or not your part of a church, this topic will give you plenty to ponder. It’s time to ask the hard questions. It’s time to wrestle with the truth.
Not everyone can workout at their full capacity. So many people struggle with health issues, injuries and limitations that prevent them from performing typical exercises. My guest this week works with just those kind of people. Janine Leblue is one of our Power Fitness coaches. Not only is she a knowledgeable and experienced coach, but she has a kind heart and desire to serve. Janine’s personal struggles with her health over the years has given her a special connection with the clients she works with. She is just about ready to launch her own business!
Meet the girl behind the camera Niki Luymes is my video editor, graphic designer, and videographer. A lot of what I do wouldn't be possible without her. So I thought it would be fun to have her on the show. She and I have a lot in common, and alway have fun talking to each other. I know you'll enjoy this special episode of the Carla Rand Show just as much as we enjoyed making it
Sometimes the lifestyle changes necessary to make a difference take some starts, stops, and a few restarts. Tracy Anderson is no stranger to this process. While she successfully lost weight in the past, life kept changing and shifting, and it took her a little time to get to where she is now. So if you always find your fitness journey getting uprooted by life, take a listen to Tracy's story and get a little advice, and a little inspiration
I love networking with other fitness coaches. Bouncing around ideas and beliefs with like minded people is one of the reasons why I do this podcast. James Jiang’s energy and honesty made me want to connect with him. He’s young, extremely driven and has gained a lot of wisdom from the challenges he’s faced in his life. James has such a passion for the kind of coaching that creates lasting change for his clients and for that, I salute him. I love networking with other fitness coaches. Finding a fitness routine that works for you isn't always easy. A lot of programs are one-size-fits-all quick fix that doesn’t actually do much good in the long run. Katy Ferraz is a client of mine and a veteran of many different 'solutions'. She tried so many fitness options before finding something that fit her life, and that’s what’s created lasting change. So listen in to hear her story and maybe get some tips and tricks for your own fitness journey.
The first time I heard Dennis Modry speak, I immediately wanted him on my podcast. Tracking him down was no easy feat, but I was determined and he obliged!
Dennis has been an opponent to lockdowns and mandates since basically day one. He’s been active in politics, working with both our current leaders and many from the past.
He’s also a retired heart surgeon, so his perspective from both the medical and political realm is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Dennis has a wealth of knowledge and experience as a leader in the fight for our rights, both personally and professionally.
I learned so much in just this one conversation, I didn’t want it to end.
So listen in and be sure to share this one with others. Facts like these shouldn't stay hidden.
It's good to have reasons behind why you believe the things you do.
Over the past few months we’ve heard various perspectives on how the C-virus has been affecting individuals. We've discussed personal stories, presented evidence, and discussed disagreements. On today's show my guest Stephenie Smith and I talk over why she’s against the mandates.
Stephenie is a personal trainer and group fitness instructor and has been studying for a degree at a local college. She has been backed into a corner over these mandates and recently wrote a letter to our federal and provincial governments detailing how they are violating not only her rights and freedoms, but those of everyone in this nation. She represents thousands of college students who feel the same way.
Let’s hear her story.
Last Christmas I invited my friend, Shannon VanNatter on the podcast. She and I talk on the phone almost every week about life, our struggles, our victories and whatever comes up.
So, as tradition would warrant, I asked her on again for a chat about life around Christmas.
Shannon is one of my dearest friends so it's my pleasure to share her with you.
I was inspired by our conversation and I trust you will be too. So grab a warm mug and listen in.
Merry Christmas!
You don't need me to tell you that we live in divisive times.
Even before the pandemic, things were getting rough, but now it seems even harder to discuss topics we differ on.
Aaron Kauffman is a pastor, father, and friend of mine. However, he and I disagree on some of the finer points on the vax and the church's response. And while we do touch on that a bit, today we're mostly here to discuss how we should interact and react to those we disagree with.
It's a good conversation to have, so please listen in and be civil in the comments.
I want to make sure people know the facts. Right now, if you look at popular media, you might think that the vaccines are safe and reliable. Sadly, that's not entirely true. Murry Hellekson decided to get the jab earlier this year. Shortly thereafter he suffered massive side effects he didn't even know were possible. Now he's doing his best to spread his story and make sure people are making informed decisions. So please, take a moment to listen to his story. Reactions like this are more common than you might think.
One of the hardest but most rewarding jobs in the world is being a mom. I love being a mom.
It changes your perspective and changes your life. My guest this week is local mom, teacher, artist and writer, Leanne DeLeeuw. Leanne's role as a mom motivated her to write her very special book about what she wants her kids to know.
It’s the kind of story that gets any mom emotional because it’s so bang on.
So let's dive in to Leanne's story. Something uplifting to brighten up this week
What does it mean to give kids a proper education?
There are quite a few options out there for families, public school, private school, charter school, and our topic for today, homeschooling. But what are the options for homeschooling? What are the advantages, the concerns?
My guest today is Bobbie Luymes. With over 20 years experience as both a teacher and a homeschool mom, she has the answers to all these questions, with some fun stories along the way. So even if you are just slightly curious about homeschooling you should listen in.
Sometimes we need to take a moment to remember the people who's hard, and selfless work makes surviving these rough days easier.
Today on the show I have two representatives, Jacey Bowie, and Sheryl Luckwell, from the Edson Food Bank. They're here to help get you up to speed on this important part of our community.
So listen in to get all the details, and maybe get inspired for how you can help out too.

Life is constantly changing.
In times like this, the prospect of needing to change your entire career is all too real for many canadians. This choice, no matter the reasoning, can seem daunting, for many reasons. My husband, Jason, recently made the choice to switch careers. He went from being a high school teacher/Principal, to working on the oil patch. A big switch for our family and our lifestyle.
So today Jason is here to talk about why it seems so hard to switch careers, what excuses we may have to not do so, and the benefits of the change.
Covid mandates are getting out of control.
This isn't a stretch and sadly you can meet many people who have been discriminated against based holy on their stance on covid and the vaccines. I for one, have been hearing a lot of heartbreaking stories.
On This week's episode we're hearing one such story from a friend of mine Pam Van De Spiegle.
Pam has been hesitant to tell her story, but has come to the conclusion that it needs to be told. People need to know that this kind of thing is happening, in Canada, and more often than we would like to think.
In uncertain times like these a lot of people are starting to worry about their finances.
Which is completely understandable, money often weighs heavy on our minds at the best of times. Christine Davis has found her calling in helping relieve that weight.
Christine is a full time private financial consultant. It is literally her job to give financial guidance and help you crunch all those intimidating numbers. Her advice is invaluable. So I decided to have her on the show, so she could break down the best financial tips and tricks for each stage of life.
I learned so much talking to Chirstine, and I know you will too.

You can't really ignore politics these days.
Not only are we just coming out of election season, but now, seemingly more than ever, our daily lives are feeling the effects of political decisions. In the midst of all this we can't lose sight of our local communities, and what we can do to make our voices known.
Glen Carrit knows how to make the right kind of noise. He knows what it's like to live, and run a business in a small town, and he knows what he wants to stand up for. So let's jump into his story, as we get a little political here on The Carla Rand Show.

It takes a special kind of calling to work your whole life in healthcare.
Finding the balance between give and take, and having the desire to really go beyond with the people you work with. It all takes a kind of drive unique to the profession.
Marsha Haggart has worked in healthcare for a long time. It went from a job she could never see herself in, to a passion she couldn't live without.
Lorelie Rozzano knows the pain of addiction very well. Over her lifetime she has lived with addiction and is now helping those who desire to recover. She is the author of 3 books covering all aspects of the recovery process. Lorelie is truly an amazing lady and I learned so much just talking to her. This is definitely one of the most helpful and informative conversations I’ve had about addiction.
Never underestimate the value of your brain. It almost goes without saying, but so many people don't take the time or effort to really care for their brain. Karla Weiss has worked for over 20 years in the healthcare industry. Working in all roles from candy striper to full time registered nurse. Now, she is bringing the focus to proper brain health, and what it means to care for your brain and stand up for being different in these strange times. She and I really got into it this week. Listening to someone as knowledgeable as Karla is always worth your time.
Election Special Part 3
Here’s a surprise election special for you all!!
Gordon Francey is the candidate for the Veterans Coalition Party (VCP). The VCP have been around for a while but you might not have heard of them.
Get in the know before the 20th when we all get out and vote!
Election Special Part 2.
With Election Day quickly approaching, we need al the information we can on our regional candidates. Micheal Manchen is the People's Party of Canada (PPC) candidate for West Yellowhead.
Michael has lived in Alberta his entire life, working in many of the industries that sustain our province.
He's hoping to bring that knowledge, and experience to Ottawa. So listen in and get informed for this Election Day.
It's election season here in Canada.
So we're going to take some time to get to know a few of the candidates from the Yellowhead Region.
Today I interview Todd Muir for the Maverick Party, a new party that's focusing on preserving our freedoms and bringing the west's values right to Ottawa.
Listen in to learn more and get informed before heading to the polls.
Stay tuned for Tuesday's episode where we'll be interviewing the candidate for the People's Party of Canada.
Feel free to share this episode with family and friends who would like to learn more about their voting options.
What does it mean to be successful in business?? Vincent Pugliese is what you would call "successful" but in his opinion success is more than a full bank account. He has found success by being different in all the right ways, and making the most of every opportunity. This is Vincent's story, packed full of advice for anyone who wants to do what they love.
It's the 70th episode of The Carla Rand Show!!!!!!
That's as good of reason as any to do something a little special for you all. So I'm going in the hot seat.
My media gal Niki is gonna ask me some questions that she got from you guys. So hold on to your hats as we dive in to this extra special episode.
What does it take to reach your dreams??? The easy answer is, a lot. No matter what your dream is, it will always involve effort of some kind. Chelse Moffatt did not have an easy start. She has had to overcome many obstacles to get to where she is today. From abuse, to poverty, to teen pregnancy, it hasn't been an easy journey. So join me in welcoming her to the show, because I know you will find some motivation and truth in today's conversation.
Making money doing what you love, that's the dream right?
Dom St Amand is my guest this week, and he has achieved his dream job. Dom is a rodeo announcer, it's what he loves to do. But, just because he's got there, doesn't mean he had an easy road.
There have been many bumps, half starts and full stops to get him where he is. This is his story and I know you will enjoy hearing what he has to say.
Health is complicated. Be it physical, mental or spiritual, it's a lot of work staying "healthy". Sadly in this day and age, especially in North America, healthcare tries to create a lot of easy outs. Amanda Wilcox worked as a nurse for 20 years and over that time found herself becoming disillusioned with how we treat our health. She took the time to do the research, and discovered a more holistic style of healthcare that really makes a difference. Even if you don't agree with all she says, take the time to listen in. Amanda is well spoken and very passionate, and you might be challenged in the very best way.
We are not defined by where we start in life.
Most would agree with that statement, yet so many people are never able to see themselves as becoming more. Danae Judd used to see herself that way. Stuck on who she was, she never felt she could do more, but she proved herself wrong.
Listen in to hear her story, the ups and downs of redefining herself and good advice from someone who's been there.
There are a lot of ideas about what it means to be fit.
Sadly quite a few of those ideas stem from the usually unrealistic stereotypes pushed by social media and popular culture.
Gina Roberts has made it her mission to shatter those preconceptions. Helping people realise that there is more to getting fit than getting that beach body. She has a passion for helping people achieve their goals, no matter how deceptively small they might seem.
Such a great conversation!
Gina and I agree on so many things, so it was a blast getting to know her.
If you’re like me and getting a tad tired of all the bikini posts by these so called “fitness influencers”, then allow Gina and I to cut through the nonsense and speak some truth of what it really means to be both fit and healthy.
We're Back!!😉
Jason and I are here again to tackle one of your questions. Most of you know this but Jason and I really enjoy music. Not just listening to it, but playing, preforming, and even, for Jason, writing it. It is one of our shared passions.
So I hope you enjoy listing to us discuss our history with music, what we really enjoy about it and how we suggest getting into it yourself.
A life in missions is not always easy.
Leaving your home culture, engaging with challenges and trusting God to provide financially. These are all obstacles that missionaries must overcome.
Ike and Trudy Agawin were missionaries working overseas for 20 years. They lived and worked in some of the most dangerous countries in the world, everyday trusting God to provide, and everyday being touched by his faithfulness.
I've been hearing Ike and Trudy's stories since I was a kid. They have done so much good to further the gospel. It is my pleasure to share their stories with you.
It’s hard for me to admit this but I’ve struggled with various addictions over the course of my life. Not with drugs and alcohol but with food and other dopamine inducing stimulants.
I have battled and gained freedom but the fight isn’t over.
Addiction is not an easy subject, but what we learn by discussing it is well worth any discomfort.
The first time I spoke to Bethany Hoath, she made me cry because the truth she shared brought up so much for me.
Bethany spent much of her life controlled by addiction. It was only by acknowledging it and cutting it out of her life that she was able to turn things around. But that doesn't mean it was easy, or that it didn't come back in other ways.
Bethany has an amazing story, and an inspiring desire to help others overcome their own struggles. Even if you don't think you struggle with addiction, you need to hear this.
Pastor George Stone has been a figure in my life for as long as I can remember.
So it was great getting to talk to him and hearing him open up about parts of his life I hadn't known.
George has been the pastor of the Carrot Creek Christian Fellowship church in Alberta for over 30 years, but not every part of his life has been smooth sailing.
George went through an intense time of spiritual drought. Struggling to feel God's love and questioning everything he believed.
Thankfully his story doesn't end there
We asked and you answered.
This episode is the 60th episode of The Carla Rand show. So I have a very special guest in store for you. Presenting my husband and all around amazing man, Jason Rand.
This past week I asked you all what kind of questions you would have for Jason and I. The one we choose is "how do you support each other's interests?"
So hold on to your hats as we dive into this fun and challenging discussion.
Iain Jack is a rather unlikely fitness coach from Scotland.
I was surprised to hear about the rather unusual path he took to become a coach.
Iain traded drugs and alcohol for fitness and health after his life became unmanageable.
He came from a life of purposeless wandering to one of meaning and drive.
Iain has some inspiring dreams and important lessons he wants to share with the world. I felt so inspired after our conversation. I know you will too.
I like asking questions (probably to a fault).
What we do, how we do it and, most importantly, why we do it keeps me digging down various rabbit holes.
My long time friend, Christopher Klemm excels at questioning the status quo as well.
Chris grew up in Canada but has lived in Finland for the last 24 years, which gives him a unique perspective.
He and I discuss what it’s like to be unemployed for a long period of time, our take on Covid and more.
Challenge yourself to ask the right questions as you tune in to this weeks show!
What does it mean to be a leader?? Google that question and you will find dozens of answers which sometimes don't even agree with each other. That's why it is good to focus on specific aspects of leadership. On the show this week my guest Phil Web and I try to answer the question; 'what does it mean to be a strong christian leader?' Phil has a lot of experience grappling with this question, and others like it. A life spent in ministry has equipped him with the wisdom and humility that only comes through personal struggle. I loved this conversation. I could talk to people like Phil for hours. So take some time to listen in and learn a little something from this man.
It would be an understatement to say that this is not an easy time for small businesses.
Bryon Gottfredson is a well known business owner in my hometown of Edson, AB who’s really felt the effects of the Covid restrictions.
His uphill battle over the past 14 months is not one you hear much of in today's mainstream media but his story needs to be heard.
Let’s give Bryon the floor because I believe he deserves it.
This is the first time Patti Swoboda has shared her surprising story on a platform like this.
There’s always more to a person than we realize. Learning more about Patti has made me appreciate her friendship, dedication and struggles that much more.
Although Patti’s growing up journey was difficult, it has contributed to her becoming the wonderful friend, coach, wife and mother that she is today.
So thank you Patti for being willing to tell your story, and thank you dear listener for taking the time to listen to this amazing woman.
No one ever experiences a life without grief.
Whether it happens to us or someone close to us, someway, somehow it always shows up. When it happens it’s hard to know what to do or how to react, especially in the middle of it all.
My guest this week recently came through some incredibly hard times.
Now, after walking through intense tragedy, she wants to tell her story, and hopefully help others going through similar struggles.
This podcast is hard to listen to, but the lessons learned are invaluable.
Take the time to really think over what Darcy Robinson has to say.
This interview was just what I needed. Being a “mompreneur” is a blessing but it can be a lonely road.
I connected with Jenifer Uren to help her with her online business, but I had no idea we had so much in common.
She is a mom and a Christian who runs her own business and has her own podcast. It turns out I’m her ideal client and she’s my ideal colleague.
It was a joy and a blessing to get to talk to her. So listen in cause I think you’re going to enjoy our conversation as much as I did.

I really enjoy talking to creative people.
There's just something about the exchange of ideas that excites me. So many amazing creatives are out in the world with incredible stories and experiences to share.
Jade Roads is one of those people. I've known Jade since I was a young girl, but it was wonderful to get to really talk to her. She has discovered so much on her journey to become the talented singer/songwriter she is today.
Listen to her music:

There are a lot of lies perpetuated by the media in our world today.
No matter where you look, political agendas are rampant in our news sources.
My guest this week on the Carla Rand Show sheds some light specifically on the lies surrounding Alberta oil.
Janine Wildshut has her PHD in microbiology and has worked as an environmentalist in the oil sector for 12 years.
Janine went into the oil industry to clean up “dirty oil” but was pleasantly surprised at what she found. Reality and media often don’t align. Her goal is to spread the real facts about oil in our province.
I learned so much during this conversation. Janine does an excellent job at laying out the information in a way thats easy to understand. Every Albertan should educate themselves about our oil industry so we can have intelligent dialogue about facts instead of the current myths surrounding Alberta energy.

My Guest this week is artist and young mom Alannah Lammiman. Alannah has such a kind soul, and it was a pleasure to talk to her about life and art, and what it means to find the wonder in life. If you find yourself stuck in a rut this is a great podcast for you. Alannah''s joy is infectious in the very best way.
My guest on the show this week is Shimon Weissman, a fitness and nutrition coach out of the states. Turning your life around in any way will always be difficult. On some level we all know this, but we also know that what we'll gain is well worth the effort. Shimon himself went through a tremendous struggle to get to where he is now. Because of this, he is a firm believer in the idea that holistic fitness and nutrition are worth every moment of struggle and effort. I hope you come away for this conversation with a drive to try, regardless of the effort.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a big fan of small businesses.
so I'm making an effort to have some local Edson and area business owners as guests on the show. Leona Pelke owns and operates 'In Your Drawers', a bra and clothing store in downtown Edson AB.
Leona's story is not just about her business though. She has overcome many struggles, including a fight with cancer, to get where she is today. We also discuss what it's like owning a business in today's crazy COVID world.
I love hearing people's powerful stories. It’s incredible to me how we all have things in our lives that have shaped who we are.
My guest this week on the show has such an incredible story. Gay Spence is an amazing woman. She has lived through dark trials and wonderful times, coming out stronger and closer to God on the other side.
With experience working for victim services and as a chaplin for the RCMP, Gay is a wealth of wisdom and genuinely cares for the people around her. So listen in, and I hope you enjoy this episode.
Sometimes we don't even realize we are limiting ourselves.
On this episode of the Carla Rand Show I'm having a powerful discussion with my friend and fellow fitness coach Grant Corriveau.
Grant is such a strong and dedicated coach. He’s polite and a little wild, respectful and super fun. I always enjoy chatting life and business with him.
This time around we are talking about scarcity mindset. If you're not sure what that is, all the more reason to tune in.
Music is an incredible part of our world. It's broad yet refined, dignified yet chaotic. This week on the show I have on an artist who has been able to use music to move beyond a difficult beginning. Jesse Cretney is a local rapper from central Alberta who just recently released his first full album. His story is not one to be missed. If you’d like to listen to any of Jesse's music, look for him on all music streaming platforms under the artist handle; To Deep 2020.
This week's show is a little different then usual. Instead of our usual conversation format, returning guest Sharon Neufeld and I are going to tackle a specific question we got from our listeners. "Why do we so often turn to food and other pleasures instead of turning to God?” This is an issue both Sharon and I have struggled with. It often sneaks into your life and you don't even realize it. It's a tough issue, so it was good to have the whole episode just to cover it. If any of this strikes a chord with you or maybe just sounds far too familiar, you should listen in. Sharon is a wealth of humble wisdom, anyone would be hard pressed to not get something from this conversation.
How we think about ourselves is more important than we realize.
This week on the show I'm gonna be talking about limiting beliefs with my friend, and fellow fitness instructor Andrew Catella.
Andrew has a real desire to help people become the best they can. This means helping them overcome the mental barriers that we often put in our path. I agree with so many of Andew's points and I can't wait to share them with you.
If you, like so many others, sometimes find yourself struggling to make real change in your life you should listen in.
Some topics are not easy to talk about.
This week we have one of those topics. Darian Vine-Sargent is a young man who experienced sexual abuse throughout his childhood. Those events continue to affect him to this day. His desire is to help people learn how to identify and help those going through similar situations.
This podcast isn’t for everyone, you’ll probably want to preview it before you allow your children to hear.
It might be especially triggering for those who’ve gone through sexual abuse but it’s an important conversation to have.
Darian shares openly about the dangers and how to prevent and stop sexual abuse from happening to your own children.
Last time worked really well so we've done it again, this time with video too. Craig Bongelli is here to coach Janelle through time management, and making the most of a busy schedule. When I asked Janelle what she wanted help with, she told me about her busy schedule and how she felt trapped. Craig Bongelli was the perfect Coach for her. He is driven, he has accomplished so much and he knows how to live a productive life. Take some time to listen in. You may just find some interesting tips on better managing your schedule - I know I did. Want the information with none of the context? Jump to 36:22 for the short version.
All it takes is one day to change your life forever.
That was the case with my guest this week, Derrick Ball. In the beginning of 2020 he was diagnosed with brain cancer. With that news his life changed completely, but maybe not in the way you would think.
Listen in to hear a story of strength and finding new purpose in the midst of inescapable odds. Derrick is determined to do everything he can to fight this cancer both physically and mentally.
Derrick is accustomed to overcoming and his cancer diagnosis is one more obstacle he has to defeat.
I was deeply moved during this interview and I know you will be too.
Sometimes it's difficult to believe you can move beyond where you are right now.
I was connected to Tish Lethbridge through one of my listeners. I was told she had a powerful story and I should have her on the show. It was a pleasure getting to talk to Tish, her story is truly inspiring.
Tish is a single mother of 7. She came through not one, but two difficult marriages and pulled herself up from almost nothing into a successful career. She'll be the first to say that she didn't do it alone.
Sometimes I get super excited for a podcast way beforehand, this was one of those times.
Craig Bongelli is a fitness coach, former strong man and all around motivating kinda guy. I met him a few months ago and almost instantly knew I wanted him on the show.
Craig is a gifted communicator. He’s articulate, passionate and he means what he says.
In this week's show we talk about how he got to where he is today, some of the obstacles he faced along the way and how we all need to take responsibility for our circumstances.
We end off discussing masculinity and what it means to be a man.
It's a lot of to take in and it's definitely thought provoking and insightful.
What do you do when the rug gets pulled out from under you? Life can be hard sometimes, but maybe that’s actually a good thing. On this week's episode of 'The Carla Rand Show' I discuss this very topic with long time missionary, Rod Black. I've known of Rod since I was a little kid sitting in the pew at church looking up at the slideshow of his adventures in Pakistan. He and his wife would frequently visit my home church during my growing up years. I knew his name in passing and heard about what he did, but I never really listened to his story until recently, and boy, it's a good one. Burn out, personal crisis and deep personal growth, his life has it all. If the struggles of this past year have got you down, this is a podcast you should listen to.
Politics!! Ain’t that the hype these days?
Well, we don’t talk much about politics but I was able to have a great conversation with our local West Yellowhead MLA Martin Long.
I met Martin a couple years ago when he was first campaigning for his position and I’ve been watching him work ever since.
He seems almost omnipresent because I’ve run into him at funerals, graduations and many different events. I don’t know how he does it, but he doesn’t sure doesn’t sit around!
This week we'll try to steer clear of the more touchy political topics and really just focus on Martin's story and how he got where he is today. I enjoyed hearing about his perspectives on leadership and what makes him a positive politician.
If you are interested in politics or just want to hear what life is like on the inside, I highly recommend listening in.
Hello Everybody
I am proud and excited to present the first ‘Carla Rand Show: Coaching Edition’. This is a new idea that I’ve been wanting to try for a while and I’m happy to get off and running.
In this format I'll be facilitating a session between two individuals, a coach and a participant. We will be able to listen in as one walks the other through overcoming various personal challenges.
Today’s episode features Greg Garwood, a nutrition and lifestyle coach, who I have worked with in the past. Hopefully by listening in, you can find some inspiration and helpful tips for your own life journey.
I met Mesh Hit just this past year when he became the new Pastor for my home church, Edson Baptist and it has been a privilege getting to know him. He has a powerful testimony and a deep love for people both in and out of the church.
In this week's podcast he and I discuss his life and its ups and downs, as well as the things he's learned along the way.
As a career Pastor he has a lot of insights around the good and the not so good sides of leading a church
If you are interested in ministry to some capacity or just want some encouragement in these difficult times this is the podcast for you.
This weeks show is unique because its the first time I’ve had a return guest to my podcast.
Sharon Neufeld is a long time mentor of mine and it was so good to have her back on The Carla Rand Show. The first time she was on I felt like we barely scratched the surface on the things I wanted to talk about.
She has such a gift in sharing wisdom and truth into the lives of others. Listen to Sharon take on the topic of womanhood. What does it mean to be a woman? What rights should a woman have? What is a woman anyway?
It’s a complex issue and I can honestly say that Sharon does an excellent job breaking it down to what really matters. If you are a woman trying to navigate your role in today’s society, then you’re not going to want to miss this episode!
It's Shannon here - and I'm blessed to do a quick intro. of this peek into Advent. I'm not sure if you feel "ready" for Christmas or not - I can't say I'm quite there yet.
Advent has been a traditional time held dear by many churches and families alike to prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus.
Here Carla and I chat a little about the journey it has been for me personally and some of the discoveries I've made in the process.
This podcast will be a great way to get you thinking about what Christmas is really about. The phrase "Who Stole Christmas?" has been rolling around in my mind as of late. It seems this Christmas will be very different for many - but -what we can remember is that NO ONE CAN STEAL CHRISTMAS - for it is a celebration of Jesus coming to earth to bring us hope, joy, love, peace and light
So join Carla and I in tossing out those internal obstacles and looking at this season in a new, freshly fallen snow kind of way.
Blessings to you this holiday season!
Kynan Vine has a unique and inspiring story that I think will really resonate with people struggling in these difficult times. Kynan works for the Calgary Stampede and the Canadian finals rodeo. He competed as a professional bull fighter/rider for many years, until that all changed. In 2013 Kynan made the choice to donate a kidney to save his mothers life. This sacrifice effectively ended his bull fighting career, changing the trajectory of his life. Listen in as he and I discuss his choice, and how he adapted to his new normal, and growing up in and around Canadian Rodeo.
I met Anna Vander Haeghe when she first signed up for a Power Fitness membership a couple years ago. Anna is an occupational therapist currently working out of Edson AB. She has such a heart for children with special needs and she has a passion for helping parents understand and optimize their child's potential. With over 20 years experience as an OT, Anna has observed the needs of families and has started her own practice. She and her business partner Michelle Campbell started the LEAP Edson: Therapy and Resource Centre and have created a safe and supportive environment for children with special needs along with their families.
Waldie Neufeld is the former President of the Peace River Bible Institute, a Bible College that I attended when I was young. He is also the forthcoming author of the new book, "Teaching Stones to Love", which is due to arrive soon. He and his wife Sharon (from Ep. #24) have long been deeply influential in my life, and as well to my husband's. What I really appreciate about Waldie is his ability to say it like it is, without apology, but always from his heart. This is a conversation to remind you about God's love and who you're created to be.
Angie Smith is no stranger to loss. As a young teenager her mom and step-father were tragically killed in a motor collision. This among many powerful experiences have shaped her into the woman she is today---strong, passionate, and compassionate. She has a heart for youth and for her faith, combining the two into a vital ministry for many. This is a truly great conversation about resilience, struggle, and the power of faith.
Brett Gardiner is an award winning Western Sports Announcer. Usually doing around 135 events in a year and travelling all over North America, Brett is living out the dream. Something you might not realize for a successful and hard-working guy like Brett is that despite having so many things going well for him, he reached a point of burnout that brought him to a paradigm shift. He found himself one day staring in the mirror and realizing that he had do something, anything to make a better balance in his life.
Tyler Babiuk is an Edson, Alberta raised musician who has performed in front of thousands of people. Having had moderate success as a young Country artist, I wanted to explore the ideas of obstacles with him and how he views his journey. We talk about what it was like for him to go through his parents divorcing when he was younger and what it was like to fit into a new community. I was blown away at how much wisdom he had for such a young age. Tyler is a very creative young man who is worth listening, whether he's talking on my podcast or performing a concert.
Natalie Walter is a champion of women everywhere, particularly of young women. Working to support troubled youth through the West Yellowhead Pregnancy Care Centre, Natalie finds herself in a very interesting position. I found this conversation to be exactly what I needed to here. Her story, while somewhat marred with an early trauma, has uniquely positioned her to be of help to so many others. She's fun, charming, and so insightful. She's proof that even the hard things in life can work together for good.
Stephen Jones is a multi-talented, creative, and diverse individual who was diagnosed with autism. In this episode we speak a lot about what that means and even what it was like for him as a child---something many families navigating with this diagnosis find some trouble understanding. He is genuine, kind, and very insightful. From a personal journey of intense focus to sometimes floundering social skills, Stephen is a fascinating man who taught me much. I know you're going to enjoy this episode...
A bullfighter and a counsellor make a heck of a combination, and Brett and Amy Monea are exactly that. Though Brett has experience in the rougher side of life in high intensity sport, Amy has spent a lot of time understanding psychology as a therapist, and together they connect two different worlds in a beautiful way. We talk about many things but the big theme that came out of our conversation is the need for more people to understand what therapy is, why it's important, and how it can improve your life.
Sharon Neufeld is a counsellor, a truth-sayer and intelligent human being that I have the utmost respect for. Her story is fascinating; from having her home burn down to following a bizarrely non-traditional educational path, it's just a delight to listen to the twists and turns of her life. This is the perfect episode for you if you're a married person and wanting to strengthen your relationship. Sharon's practical application of Christian principles are universal to believers and non-believers alike.
Jason Meland is a fitness coach from Florida. Growing up close to a lot of gang activity, his story of continually persevering through obstacles is one truly worth listening to. Whether being bullied relentlessly as a kid, repeatedly being turned down for a dream spot on 'American Ninja Warrior,' and even surviving a severe electrocution accident while on the job as a firefighter, no obstacle has been tough enough to hold him back. I ask him about what's kept him pushing forward, and what has led to his present success.
Vince Del Monte is a family man, fitness leader, and incredibly successful business entrepreneur. In fact, he was recently named by Yahoo as the #1 Fitness Business Coach there is. But all his success and business acumen aside, Vince is an ordinary man who is trying to balance his work with his life, and today we talk frankly about his experience in marriage: what has challenged it, and what has he done to make it stronger.
Greg Garwood is a professional firefighter and fitness leader from Colorado, but many people would be surprised to learn that he has long suffered from some extreme anxiety in his life, even having had a full blown nervous breakdown at one point. But despite his struggles, his story is one of perseverance and continually leveling up his life, facing fears and getting uncomfortable in order to grow. I know you're going to find this valuable and instructive.
Brian Dixon has been a huge mentor in my life and his story is a powerful one. Brian got into a very serious vehicle collision when he was a young man that shattered his pelvis and caused enough damage to make every doctor tell him that he would never walk again---all but one orthopedic surgeon who took a chance on him. That doctor, his faith in God, and his good heart for people became a primary driver in what he feels is his second chance at life. He's since ran 11 marathons, been a successful teacher, entrepreneur, family man, and influencer. So much wisdom here!
Shaley Griffin is a cowgirl after my own heart. She's from Texas and her story is a powerful one of overcoming an emotional affair that came between her and her husband, rising to find her passion as a breakaway roper, and ultimately shining a light into the lives of other women who have similar challenges. She does this all not only through her experience, but through the center of her faith. Buckle in for an inspiring story redemption, forgiveness, and strength, my friends...
Dan Garner is an expert nutritionist and someone I've looked up to for almost three years. Honestly, he does so many things, he's hard to introduce! He works with celebrities and professional players, he has a popular podcast called 'The Garner Report', he's a speaker, a multiple-business owner, and has traveled all over the world. I promise you will love this episode. Dan breaks down his vast knowledge of fitness and nutrition into language we can all understand.
Alex Garzaro is a strong, sweet, and helpful woman with an inspiring story about lifestyle change. After being very overweight after having her kids, Alex had a light-bulb moment that transformed the way she looked at herself. She used that idea and infused it with motivation to get strong, shred some weight, and even start her own business. She and I both preach about the importance of changing your life, not just your diet... I know you're going to get something valuable out of this conversation.
Jennifer Domville has struggled with alcoholism in her past and sadly, her daughter is currently still struggling with drug addiction. Jennifer's story is fascinating, heartbreaking, and simultaneously inspiring. She is a strong woman who has been through some very extreme situations but despite all that has come out as loving mother, grandparent, and a hardworking home business owner in Vancouver. Her wisdom on addiction is invaluable and I invite you to sit in on this conversation and learn from her experience.
Andrea Fehr is a mother, speaker, author, and lifecoach (www.andreafehr.com). A few years after she got married, she began to experience a mysterious chronic illness. She went from being a hyper active person, always moving, to somebody who could barely stand. This persisted intensely for 15 years of her life throughout having children and every other challenge that being an adult brings. But she radiates joy. Her story of struggle, triumph, motherhood, and faith inspires me so much, and I'm sure it will for you too. Her book, 'Freaking Out to Flying Free', is available on Amazon.
Mark Avens is a fitness and nutrition coach from Florida who is also a Christian. Though much of this episode is heavily focused on Christianity, my goal is not to be preachy with it. I just want to give you a cogent understanding of what it means to walk in faith---something you can take or leave. Mark and I talk about his story, his upbringing as a Catholic and how his journey with Christ moved him out of “religion”, how his relationship with Christ continues to grow, and we even discuss how to start developing a relationship with God for those who don't know how.
Ryan Guay is a fire-fighter with the persistent mentality that "No one gets left behind." He also coaches individuals to be more productive, use their time wisely, and to level up in all areas in general. He is highly committed to growth, always striving to be a better person than he was last year. We discuss the importance of visualization when it comes to success and making an impact, the importance of providing value to others, and some general wisdom on how to be successful at anything you put your mind toward.
Leona Peters is a Christian counselor; mine, in fact. She is one of the most important mentors in my life right now, but also to many other people who struggle with all variety of things---and not just Christians. She strongly believes in the power of Jesus Christ and works with her husband in ministry to so many people as individuals and as couples. This interview is chalked full of her powerful perspective on how to live a balanced life and I know you'll enjoy it.
Kirk Wildman's son Thomas was diagnosed with cancer very young, and although thankfully there is a happy ending to this story, his family underwent many trials during Thomas' journey of recovery. Kirk is an Alberta rancher who raises Red Angus cattle from his family farm. He is a very kind and caring man and I learn a great deal from him about life, what matters, and he gives us some insight on how to stay positive during such a scary time.
Shawna Kaminski is my former business coach and is my current nutrition coach. She is a rockstar athlete in phenomenal shape, more so than most young people even, and she's in her 50s! Honestly, there are so many inspiring things about her, from the way she runs a successful business, the way she takes care of her health and inspires those around her to take care of their own health, but most of all (for me) is the way she constantly reminds me to focus on what really matters in life; my family.
J.R. Spear is a former military man with a powerful story to tell. We get into his near-death experience in the military and how his time there has contributed to who he is today. Beyond this, J.R. is a family man, an entrepreneur, and an all around helpful person who is constantly on a path to self-betterment, both physically and mentally. There is a ton of wisdom and insight to extract here, I know you'll enjoy this.
Rhona Parsons is known as the Balance Coach and today we get into the importance of finding balance in work and life, and also how to find it. She is a kind and warm soul with tons of wisdom to share with us. We talk about her experience of burnout, what she learned from it, and why it's so important to spend time on self-care.
Lise Pavich is a survivor, not a victim of domestic abuse. She's the owner of Urban Image Spa in Edson, AB. She came on to the podcast as a way to learn how to be vulnerable, and her insights are invaluable. Lise is a very tough person with a real survivors mindset; you won't want to miss this conversation where she shares insight and strategies for how to survive a tumultuous life.
Josh Brown has a nutrition business and by all appearances seems to have his life all together. What most people do not realize is that he has struggled with porn since he was 13 years old, only being free of it for the last two years. His story has a lot of hope, and we talk about key strategies in how he overcame his addiction. He currently resides in a small town in Saskatchewan with his wife and three young daughters. This is a very important conversation.
Pastor Terry Stauffer is the pastor of Southgate Alliance Church in Edmonton, but he used to be my pastor in Edson. It is an immense honour for me to interview him today. His daughter Emily was murdered in September of 2008 and the tragedy ran through our entire community, and throughout his family. Today he gives us an update and shares the wisdom he's learned in regards to grief and loss.
Pamela Graham is an excellent writer with a terrific blog, a teacher, a leader in various capacities, plus she is my very good friend and older sister. In this conversation she gets vulnerable, speaks about her depression, other areas of struggle, boundaries, and a lot of things in between. It's really neat to hear her perspective and it was a blast to record!
Candace Kerr is the founder of Fire White Music, she teaches piano lessons, she does some recordings, and she also helps out in her church. She shares with us the struggles that she's had with mental health and gives us some insight into how we can relate to those who are struggling. She also talks about the single life and what that's been like for her.
Chris Mullin is your straight-up Albertan. We actually rode the bus together, we grew up together, going to different schools. It was so neat to connect with him again. He is a husband, father of two, and his wonderful wife works at the bank. We talk about COVID and politics. He has strong opinions and is not afraid to say what he means and mean what he says.
My first episode and I'm so excited to share it with my sister-in-law, Sarah McPhee. She's also one of the amazing fitness coaches in my company, Power Fitness. She's a mom, a wife, and in this conversation we get into a lot of good things. We talk about marriage, raising kids, the whole COVID-19 pandemic and how the isolation has been affecting us, plus the concept of 'The Carla Rand Show' and why I'm doing it.
