RhonDa Willoughby was in studio with Brenda Drumm to talk about 'Food for the Sole' - the cookbook with a difference!
Leprosy still exists in some parts of the world and particularly in India.
For the last two years we have been running our ‘Good for the Sole’ project in partnership with Leprosy Mission. We have raised €25,000 to buy sandals, made out of recycled tyres. Sandals help protect the feet of those who suffer from leprosy in India. We are moving into the second phase of our project - to raise money for foot surgery.
For some people the sandals come too late and their feet are already badly damaged. Foot surgery costs €50, which includes medical care, hospital stay and aftercare. This surgery gives a leprosy sufferer a new lease of life, and again, means that they can work and earn a living. 5 cookbooks will provide one life changing operation. Extend your recipe bank and change someone’s life!
Copies are €10 / £10 + post & package.

What emerged is 'Requiem for a Child' in which I have taken various elements of the Requiem in the Latin, Irish and English languages to reflect the immensity of what happened to our children and what sadly is still happening throughout the world today. Written for Choir , String Quartet, Piano and Uilieann Pipes, it has been beautifully arranged by Mark Cahill and all under the amazing direction of Mary Amond O Brien. This will be a unique one night only performance in this significant year in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow."

Brenda Drumm spoke with Father Alan Hilliard about his new booklet 'Open Heart, Open Arms'.
The aim of this booklet is to help foster an understanding of the plight of migrants that lead to action in the local faith community. Understanding the role of the Christian towards the ever more present reality of migration and of the great Catholic tradition of hospitality is more important than ever, especially if we want or desire to make the appropriate response.
The actions may not change situations in the homelands from which people migrated in the first place, but the action we undertake in the neighbourhood where we live together can have amazing impacts for the stranger, for us and for our community, eventually influencing policy through our mutual understanding of the way our world is functioning or not functioning. The information in this booklet will help nurture the instincts of those who wish to make a difference in the face of the current crisis, which brings with it so much tragedy.

Everyone wants to believe in miracles. Welcome to the village built on one.
An apparition of the Virgin Mary. A multi-million euro restoration project. A plane full of American pilgrims en route. Thousands of faithful seeking a miracle. 'Strange Occurrences in a small Irish village' explores the big question of faith, in a small Irish village.
One dark evening in 1879 in the town of Knock, Ireland, fifteen villagers claim to witness a vision of the Virgin Mary. After two official inquiries, the village was declared a Marian Shrine. Today, Knock’s 2,000 residents welcome over one million pilgrims annually.
In the village, we meet people with compelling stories – invalids seeking cures; the eight sibling owners of rival religious merchandise shops; a woman relieved of multiple sclerosis during a 1970s pilgrimage; feisty Mildred, advocate for gender parity for the shrine’s handmaids; and the staff of the Knock Marriage Bureau, the matchmakers behind one thousand marriages and counting.
Father Richard has a vision of his own – to bring Knock into the twenty-first century. The charismatic, outward-looking Parish Priest is on a mission to entice new transatlantic visitors via Knock Airport.
With references to “the scandals”, falling church attendances, and the modernisation of the shrine and the village itself, 'Strange Occurrences in a small Irish village' presents a timely reflection on the position of the Church in modern Ireland. For the faithful it celebrates a beacon of spiritual hope; for sceptics it opens an enticing window on an anachronistic but thriving world.
On Sunday 28 August Brenda Drumm spoke to the director of this new film Aoife Kellegher about 'Strange Occurances in a small Irish village'.
Broadcast on Kfm on Sunday 28 August 2016

Brenda Drumm spoke to Aonghus Dwane about his new book on Donald Caird.
As Bishop of Limerick, Bishop of Meath and Kildare, and Archbishop of Dublin successively, Donald Caird has enjoyed a distinguished career in the Church of Ireland. His lifelong interests in the Irish language and ecumenism mean he is also well-known in wider Irish society.
His time in office, particularly as Archbishop of Dublin in the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, coincided with historic developments in the life of both Church and State, including the great 'liberal agenda' debates on contraception, abortion and divorce in the Republic; the ordination of women to the ministry of the Church of Ireland, and the developing peace process in Northern Ireland. A man who had met both Peig Sayers and CS Lewis, the broad scope of Donald’s friendships and interests both North and South afforded him an unusual insight into many aspects of the Irish scene, combining leadership of his own community with interested engagement with other streams of national life.
This biography will trace Donald Caird’s life story from early experiences in the Gaeltachtaí of Dún Chaoin and the Blaskets, and his introduction to the Irish language Guild of the Church (where he encountered figures such as Dr Kathleen Lynn who had participated in the 1916 Rising); through his education in Trinity College and early life in the ministry (including a curacy and chaplaincy in Northern Ireland) to the taking up of episcopal office in 1970. The visit of Pope John Paul II to Ireland and his meeting with Church of Ireland bishops in 1979; Donald's relationships with the late Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich and Archbishop Robin Eames; and his strong commitment to ecumenism and full minority participation in the institutions of the Republic are all recounted. Readers will also get a glimpse of the private and family man through his own reminiscences and the anecdotes of friends and contemporaries.
Aonghus Dwane is an Irish language officer in Trinity College Dublin. Originally from Cork city and a graduate in Law from UCC, he worked as a senior prosecution solicitor with the DPP before moving to the Irish language sector in 2005. He has contributed to various newspapers and journals and was director of the Celtic Revival Summer School in Dublin and the Aran Islands in 2006. Fr Brian Grogan SJ has just published a new book called Where to from Here which looks at the issue of eschatology. Eschatology, as the author notes, has been closed for repairs for quite some time. This book opens up the doors again, with new insights and images of what may be ahead for us. The argument throughout is that God's loving relationship with us, revealed in Jesus Christ, cannot be broken. Well-worn topics such as General Judgement, hell, heaven and purgatory are treated in a fresh and intelligibly satisfying way, while concise and illuminating treatment is given to human solidarity in Christ, universal salvation, the divinisation of humankind and the future of the material world. Of course, this brief overview opens up more questions than it answers, but it offers a fresh departure in exploring a dimension of reality too long neglected.
