This is a a great example of how fast something can go so wrong and fortunately for this church there was no loss of life. My guest this week is Tara Koetter. I have wanted to have someone on regarding domestic violence and the domestic spillover in our churches. Tara has been involved in church security for many years and leads the team at her church. She has felt that God has been leading her to speak more openly about this subject. We know that during this time with Covid that domestic violence has risen. It is not unrealistic that as churches begin to open back up, that there is the potential for an increase of domestic spillover to our churches.

You never know where or how God is going to lead you and for John Lucas it was his church hiring him for his construction background as the school at the church was expanding. After a couple of years the church saw the need for a security role and asked John to transition in that direction.
Since the church is really a reference to the body of Christ, we can glean information from a variety of ministries around the country and getting a glimpse into what a ministry like Compassion International and the mission that Jim Adams has been called to is a real treat.
An advocate for personal security for over 25 years, Donald Hawkins entered formal security work in 2010 when he was asked to establish a security team for his church. Drawing from his knowledge of personal security and his experience in IT, Donald established a comprehensive security plan for the entire facility. Today, he is a licensed, armed security officer serving at a large, non-denominational church. Donald is an alumnus of the R.L. Oatman Executive Protection School and a member of ASIS International.

Dan Lanotte was the director of his church’s safety team for about 8 years and now serves as one of their trainers. We are going to talk with Dan and see what it has been like to develop and lead a church team. The challenges that have been faced and how he has worked through those.

Alan Hughes has been the security director at his church for over 8 years. Bill has served 30 years in law enforcement and retired as Chief of Police. He currently is the Director of Security for Cedar Park Church in Washington State and has established a highly successful and respected church security program. He is a frequently sought speaker and trainer on House of Worship security programs.
My guests today are Frank and Sheri Pomeroy. I have been blessed to be able to spend some time with Frank and his wonderful wife Sherri over the last couple of years. The evil that occurred at their church in Sutherland Springs Texas shocked and saddened our country. Frank and Sheri join me on the podcast to discuss the what lessons were learned as a result and the healing process.
Tim has been a pastor over many years for a couple of different congregations and I think that it is with that pastor’s heart that he is able to combine both the security aspect and the ministry aspect so well. I’m happy to have Dr. David Stephens back with me again today. Dr. Stephens is the President and Founder of CorrValues, LLC. Today we are going to talk about how sexual abuse in the church is so devastating and the steps a church can take to prevent it from happening to their ministry.
We talk about the importance of training on a regular basis and that there is so much that we need to be training on regularly. Something that we want to incorporate into each of our Hands-On Seminars is a medical training. Chris Stoehner is a highly experienced medical trainer and we just barely scratch the surface of what we could cover regarding the subject of medical trauma.
Since we view security as a total team concept, a vital part of that team are the people leading the worship. If Jesus could be interrupted when he was in church, there is no reason for us to think that it won't happen in our churches and it has in many. The conversation with Kristin addresses issues that have or could arise during the service. Hopefully this conversation will generate more conversations in your church with your worship leaders.

Sue has been involved in Children’s Ministries for 35 years and in that time has seen where the kids were allowed to just leave after class to where we need to be now in securing the children. This podcast is for every church and children's worker. Audio is not as good as I would have liked but the content was too good to re-record with Sue.
In May of 2015, Officer Greg Stevens took on two terrorists that had driven from Arizona to Texas - with intentions of committing mass murder at a convention center. Officer Stevens shot both of them, saving countless lives. Greg attributes his actions to his years of training.

Rick Hunt is a 31-year police veteran. Rick is now the director of security at his church where he leads his team and uses his skills and experience to train them and others in his community. Rick has a training business on the side called Hunt’s Alley where he operates a decisional shoot and scenario training simulator.
Rick was asked to review the video from the West Freeway Church of Christ Active killer event that took place on Sunday 12/29/2019 and to give his assessment from what he observed. In that process he came up with multiple training points and it is those points that we discuss in this podcast.
