At the beginning of each year we all set our sights on goals that we want to accomplish and changes that we want to make within ourselves. The reason why we so often don't achieve these goals or changes is because we do them in our own strength. The most important question that we can ask ourselves at the beginning of this year is: "Where do I find the power to become what I envision for my life?".

In today's message, our apostolic leader, Pastor Denny Duron, will look at five conversations in scripture with the disciple Simon Peter that give us insight into these important question.

Denny Duron is an evangelist and the senior pastor of Shreveport Community Church. He is a former professional and national championship winning college football player. Who is Your Neighbor?
In the Bible Jesus tells a story about a man left to die on the side of the road until a stranger comes along and pulls him out of the ditch and restores him. Jesus said he was a "neighbor" to him.
Everyday we cross paths with people who need help, but we may never know it until we get close enough to see the ditch they are in. It begs the question, who's life could be changed if we stopped long enough to see their need? Who is your neighbor?

Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses…” Being filled with the spirit means being a witness for Christ! However, being a witness will require boldness.

In part two of our current sermon series, “Home of The Brave”, our lead pastor, Jeff Ables, taught us the importance of being bold and gave us a “Boldness Strategy” so we can be bold witnesses for the kingdom and reach people with a Gospel that will change their lives forever!”

What Happens when God calls us to reach someone who doesn't look like us, think like us or act like us?" What if God called us to preach the Gospel to someone who hates Christians? That's exactly what happened to a man named Annanias in the book of Acts, when God called him to speak to Saul, a man who was persecuting Christians at the time. But Annanias saying yes to God, even when it was uncomfortable, led to a man who was killing Christians to become one of the greatest men for Jesus the world has ever known. What miracle could be waiting to happen if you just said "yes" to God?

There is an old saying that “the devil is in the details” - meaning, the details of a matter are often the most problematic. Within the details of God’s story - (His)tory reveals the devil’s role in it all. Satan would love nothing more than to see us leave out that detail, so he can steal and kill and destroy unabated. Jesus has given us power over all the power of the wicked one so we can cast him out of our lives, our homes, our families and our situations. Through this series we will discover the details the Bible provides so we are not unaware of the devil’s devices.

In the classic film, The Wizard of Oz, Dorthy sings about a place over the rainbow. Every student of the Bible knows the rainbow has its first mention in the book of Genesis. It is a consistent reminder that God is a promise keeper. The colors of the rainbow demonstrate God’s artistry and how we should celebrate diversity, instead of allowing our differences to divide us. The rainbow’s connection with Noah and the ark is one to be considered in the hour we live in, because Jesus said as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the son of man returns. One of the most notorious characteristics of those days was the sexual perversion that was so prominent and once again, our world today is steeped in various forms of perversion - sinfulness that has highjacked the rainbow itself, attempting to use it as a brand.

The List

Legend has it that Santa Claus has a list of the naughty and the nice. God has a list of His own. He says the righteous have their names written down in the Lamb’s Book of Life! Is your name on that list?

When we were kids, we would make a list of the things we wanted for Christmas. God’s Word says we must put away childish things and show maturity in the things that we desire. What does a grown up Christmas list look like?

All of us use a To-do list from time to time. Can we truly say Jesus is Lord of our To-do list?

As we end one year and prepare to begin another, let’s get our lists in order!

Our memory is one of the greatest gifts we have been given. The Bible lets us know there are several things God wants us to remember.

To the young among us He admonishes to remember Him when we are young! God wants us living out our commitment to Him at the earliest age of accountability. For those who have fallen back into a life of sin or compromise, He warns us to remember the heights from which we have fallen. To those staying true to our commitment He cautions, “Remember Lot’s wife.” He doesn’t want us looking back upon our former life as something to return to. In addition, He actually invites us to remind Him of His promises when we find ourselves in need.

Through this series we will set ourselves some reminders so we can carry out all God expects of us and receive all He has promised.

Somewhere along the way, costumes became synonymous with play acting but that isn’t really what a costume is for. A costume is what one wears to appropriately represent a certain country, time period or culture. With that in mind, we would do well to consider our spiritual costume. How are we dressed? How well do we represent the God we serve?

The Bible specifically tells us some things to take off and some things to put on. However, Jesus also warned us about wolves that often dress in sheep’s clothing. Through this series we will take a look in the mirror of God’s Word and get in costume so we can represent Christ in a way that is appropriate and authentic!

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. We have all tried to say it! When your tongue gets twisted it can get you in a heap of trouble real quick. The Bible says it’s a fire set by hell itself!

All of us have had a tongue lashing at some time or another. We probably have been the one doing the lashing at some point. That’s why it’s so important that we turn this unruly member of our body over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That way we can use our tongue to bless and not to curse, twisting the tables on an enemy that wants to use our words to wound so many.

It’s been said that life is like a classroom. Well, in every class you need school supplies. But, what are “supplies”? Supplies are things that we need, the essentials. In the classroom of life they’re things like: provision, perseverance, friendship and discernment. These are truly essential for each and every one of us.

Philippians 4:19 says that our God will SUPPLY all our needs according to His riches in glory.

School’s in session! It’s time to get up and get ready for class! But don’t forget those school supplies.

Most of us grew up reciting the pledge of allegiance at school functions and club meetings. But have you ever really thought through what that pledge declares? It is a pretty serious commitment - the kind of commitment we need to make to the Kingdom of God, not just to a republic.Allegiance - a synonym for things like loyalty and devotion. How loyal are we to the Kingdom of Heaven?Under God - God is above us, not just positionally but in every way above us!Indivisible - Wow! Has that word ever been tested so much as the past year or so?Liberty and Justice - I’m glad these are American values, but only the Kingdom of Heaven can really deliver on these promises!Through this series we will put these things into practice to see this pledge become a revival and not just a recital

This time of the year, everyone is obsessing over weight loss. We are trying to get rid of the holiday pounds we put on, or the COVID-19 pounds (19, or 20 or 30!) It is wise to lose some weight if we need to for the purpose of physical fitness. But the term ‘weight ’has implications beyond just physical pounds and ounces. In Bible days, commerce depended on weights as a means of measuring what one was buying and selling. False weights were often used as a means of swindling others and God condemned the practice. Today, we ‘weigh in ’when we share our opinion, and that too is something God desires to regulate. We ‘weigh ’our options as we make decisions, but are we really allowing God to lead us in the decision-making process? There are many things that can weigh us down on spiritual terms and that’s why the Bible encourages us to cast off every weight that hinders us from serving God like we should. Through this series we’ll lose weight in a way that will help us become more Godly and more spiritually fit!
