Episode 77. Ft Cutsleeve is now live! Cutsleeve is an all queer East Asian band from Toronto, who recently were recipients of Vivek Shraya's VS Arts Grant, which is an equitable source of funding for a young, marginalized musical act to record their debut EP. We were fortunate enough to meet with all of the band members to talk about queer East Asian folklore, their personal histories with music, how to create and write music collectively, and who in the band is most likely to miss band practice.
Cutsleeve are currently recording their upcoming EP - you can check out live versions of their music on Youtube (Search 'Cutsleeve Band'!) and via instagram @cutsleeve. These folks are special and greatly intentional with their craft. We're so excited to hear their music and watch them shine!

Episode SEVENTY of High Top Flip Flops is now live! We had to celebrate this milestone by doing a cross-over episode Lateefa and Hadi, the co-creators/co-hosts of a great new podcast titled 'Two Peas in a Pod'! We had the chance to speak with the two of them about their upbringings - which involved moving around a fair bit and creating communities for themselves in the process. The two of them have known each other for as long as they can remember and have remained friends throughout, leading them to start a podcast to share their lived experiences, and host dialogue on issues that young folks face regularly.

Dylan, Zach and Zion - (singer/songwriter, producer, and creative director respectively) sit down with us to speak about their upbringings and Dylan's latest project 'Red Like Crimson' and single 'Just Anybody,.' Additionally, they shared their thoughts on the the notion of 'Christian' genres, and who they have been supported by on their journeys thus far

Episode 66 ft. Noor Khan is now live! Noor is an artist, director & producer. Noor's work spans many mediums, and reflects on our relationships to the land around us. We were lucky enough to sit and speak with Noor in her family home - and get a better sense of her upbringing, how her relationship to art developed, and what makes Scarborough so special. Noor's short film EAST was a catalyst for Noor to create 'PostScript,' an up and coming film/music experience that explores the geographical intersections of Parkdale and Scarborough. PostScript will be available to experience during Nuit Blanche 2019!

Wahooo! Episode 64 featuring Jonah Yano is now live! Jonah is a poet, muliti instrumentalist, singer and song writer (among many other things!). Jonah's first single 'Nervous,' featuring @badbadnotgood was just released under the record label Innovative Leisure. We had the pleasure of chatting with Jonah about his decision to move to Toronto in 2016 ( from British Colombia), reclaiming his Japanese roots, challenging the emasculation of East/South-East Asian men in media, what it's like to work with your idols, and what his song writing process is like. Jonah was kind enough to let us record in his lovely apartment, and we had a blast with this episode.

Moya and Josh are a pair of our favourite mixed media artists, born and raised in Toronto. We spoke to the lads about just about everything - growing up in the city, messages conveyed in their work, understanding the complexities of commodifying their art, their understanding of Toronto's art scene, and being observant and compassionate to artists struggling with mental health.
This conversation was in-depth, but greatly fulfilling. Both Josh and Moya are extremely thoughtful and introspective artists, and their work is extremely reflective of that.

On this episode Nivake and Krish host another AUA (Ask Us Anything) episode, and get caught up with whats been going on in each other's lives. The lads talk about wanting to hate people again, their favourite projects of 2018 so far, and their thoughts on cancel culture.
While we have your attention: The PC party of Ontario recently passed on a resolution to debate gender identity. The added danger, and extreme harm this adds to the lives of trans, and non-gender conforming folks is unjustified, and there's no better time to express your support and solidarity to those who are, and will continue to be oppressed as a consequence of intense homophobia and transphobia embedded in all forms of government. Here are a few ways you can play your part:
1)E-mail your MPP, particularly if they are PC. Let them know of how damaging this decision is, and how you care to see more support for trans and non binary folks
2) Reach out to the folks in your communities who are at risk, and are most vulnerable to state violence. Share your support and consider what their needs at this time might be.
3) If possible, consider donating to Trans organisations. A quick google search can provide you with a bounty of orgs that are fighting for the continued visibility and inclusion of trans and non binary folk in a country that has failed to provide the support and warmth that they claim to provide to those who are marginalised.
