We’re just average commies who are ready to learn. With a focus on theory from minority and non-male authors, as well as tips for applying for grad school and leftist news that filters out the hottest takes, we hope both to inform and show that philosophy can be inclusive too.
Take a journey back in time to summer 2018 when we recorded this episode (hence the cicadas in the background) and talked about online spaces and virtue ethics. We go over the ways that one is politically and ethically informed by social media (specifically YouTube and Twitter)as well as how the virtue ethic articulated by Alasdair MacIntyre in After Virtue differs from how we conceive of virtue ethics.

TW: racism and transphobia
In our second episode, we discuss "transracialism" as articulated by Rachel Dolezal (in her new netflix documentary) and its comparison to the experiences of transgender people made by Rebecca Tuvel in the feminist journal Hypatia. As we trace Kat's paper on the subject, we try to make it clear why this comparison and the idea of "transracialism" itself are in no way valid through using social ontology. We articulate how the epistemic category of race comes into play as well as how academic spaces allow for these discussions to take place at all.
