We'll focus on an encounter Jesus had with a sinful woman at a table in the house of Simon the Pharisee, found in Luke 7. In this story, Jesus steps in to advocate for the woman, who is the target of the Pharisee’s anger. We’ll be reminded that in the Kingdom of God, those who have truly experienced God's love and empathy are called to extend that same love and empathy to others.
We’ll be continuing our sermon series, this time looking at the account of the two disciples on Emmaus Road. And we’ll explore how, even though they did not recognize Jesus at first, it was at the table that His identity was revealed to them.

Due to bad weather causing a service cancellation last Sunday, we've rescheduled the next sermon in our winter series, Feast, for this coming Sunday. This Sunday, we’ll explore one of Jesus’ most well-known and lasting parables, the Prodigal Son, with a special focus on the older brother. We’ll explore how, in the Kingdom of God, refusing to offer hospitality to those we consider unworthy is, in essence, rejecting God Himself.
This Sunday, we continue our winter series, 'Feast', as we explore the theme of hospitality in the Gospel of Luke. This week, we’ll focus on how tables - meant to welcome outsiders into God’s grace - had instead become barriers, keeping people from experiencing his love and inclusion. This coming Sunday, as part of our winter series Feast, we continue exploring the theme of hospitality in the Gospel of Luke, focusing on how Jesus uses acts of hospitality to reveal the heart of the Kingdom of God. This week we will consider Jesus attending a Sabbath dinner hosted by a prominent Pharisee. During this event, Jesus addresses poor behaviour, teaching that in the Kingdom of God, true greatness is defined by compassion, humility, and generosity, rather than social status or privilege. Through His actions and words, Jesus emphasizes the importance of embodying these virtues in our relationships with others.

As we come together on this second Sunday of Advent, we continue our Advent sermon series, “The Weary World Rejoices.” This week, we focus on the theme of peace. We reflect on the angel's visit to Joseph in a dream when he learned of Mary's unexpected pregnancy. Just as Joseph found peace by trusting God's guidance, we are reminded that, even in our moments of deepest disappointment and despair, true peace is found when we remember that God is always in control.

Our scripture highlights the specific gifts the Magi presented to Jesus - gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Yet, the greatest gift in this story is the gift of God’s love, offered to an unexpected group who, by society's standards, would have been considered unworthy of such divine grace. We will be reminded that God's love and grace are so all-encompassing that even those considered unworthy are welcomed and invited to be a part of his story

We’ll be continuing our Advent series by looking at the account of the Shepherds who received the message that would bring great joy to all people. The Saviour was born! And even though life has its difficulties and hardships, we can find our joy in the birth of our Saviour, God’s perfect gift.
This Sunday we are concluding our fall sermon series, ‘A Jesus Centered Life’. This week we will be emphasizing the importance of curiosity over judgement. Curiosity invites us to come alongside others with a desire to see them, understand them, know them, and support them. We will be reminded that living a Jesus centered life means choosing to be curious, not judgemental.
There are a lot of realities in our world right now that cause us to worry. The choice before us is a life rooted in Kingdom priorities, where trust in God is our hope, or a life that is rooted in earthly priorities, where worry robs our joy. This Sunday we will be reminded that living a Jesus centered life means that even when life is hard, God’s care and provision are assured.
We are excited to gather together for worship this coming Sunday at 10am! We’ll be continuing our series by focusing on one of the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5, “blessed are the peacemakers.” And the goal for us will be to understand that those who bring peace and reconciliation follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
In life, a lack of proper priorities and focus can have serious implications. This Sunday we will be reminded that living a Jesus centered life means our greatest priorities are Kingdom priorities. We will be celebrating communion together this Sunday.
We spend a lot of our lives concerned with the opinions and the approval of others, and sadly our spirituality is not exempt. This Sunday we will be reminded that living a Jesus centered life means the priority of our faith is to bring glory to God not to gain the approval and admiration of others.
Loving people is hard! Especially loving people who have hurt us, people who are difficult, or people who hold different views from us. But Jesus is calling us to love everyone. This coming Sunday, we will be reminded that living a Jesus centered life means removing boundaries and loving everyone.

We use the word hope quite often in our day to day conversations. Hope in these contexts is about desiring something or wishing for something but there is no guarantee that it will happen. A closer look will reveal that this is not the door referred to in this scripture

This week we will consider Matthew 24:40-42, “Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Many of us who grew up going to church experienced the constant fear and anxiety associated with Jesus' return and the possibility of being left behind. This Sunday we will be asking if this verse is a support for 'Rapture Theology' and if 'Rapture Theology' is even supported by scripture at all.

But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” Many use this verse to support the belief that God will never give you more than you can handle, but as we take a closer look, we will see that it is about God helping us in times of temptation.

For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Many associate this verse as a pattern or formula that one can follow in order to receive their desired answer to prayer, but as we take a closer look, we will see that it is a call for our relationships with others to be rooted in generous grace instead of judgement.

We will be reminded that in the Kingdom of God reward is not based on the time spent on human effort but solely on the compassion and generosity of God.

Over the next few weeks we will consider some of these themes. This week we will be considering Psalm 13 and the theme of time from the perspective of hardship; specifically when time seems to keep going without any change taking place. We will be reminded that the love and grace of God is so inclusive that those who are deemed to be unworthy recipients are embraced and invited into God’s story.

We will consider the angels’ appearance to the shepherds and how the sudden appearance of God’s light, Jesus, brought joy to the world. Christmas reminds us that God’s light lifts the darkness caused by the painful realities of our lives and replaces it with joy.
This coming Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent and we will be focusing on the theme of 'peace.' We will be considering the angel’s appearance to Joseph in a dream. Because of Mary’s pregnancy and perceived unfaithfulness, Joseph had decided to divorce her. We will be reminded that even though our stressful circumstances plunge us into disappointment and despair, we find peace when we are reminded that God is in control.
This coming Sunday marks the beginning of the Season of Advent. We will be focusing on 'Hope' as we consider the angel's announcement to Mary. We observe as we read the Gospels that Jesus made religious people feel uncomfortable and marginalized people feel safe. Might I suggest that sometimes the church does the very opposite; we make religious people feel safe and marginalized people uncomfortable. The main focus is this series will be this - If we, the followers of Jesus, are going to continue his work of making marginalized people feel safe, we must begin with a fresh exposure to the uncomfortable teachings of Jesus.

Over the next couple of weeks the church will be decorated, Advent will begin, and the Christmas season at EPC will be in full celebration. As we prepare for the Christmas season, this week we will hearing a message entitled "The Christmas Reason." As followers of Jesus we need to be reminded of who Jesus is, what Jesus has done, and what Jesus will do in the future, if we are truly going to grasp the significance of Jesus being the reason for the season.

We will be considering the Rich Young Ruler in Luke 18 - living the mission will create moments when we and those we are engaging will be faced with the challenge to surrender to Jesus the priorities that are hindering opportunity for relationship with him.
