Content Warning: This show discusses themes of SA and Mental Health

Some women’s extraordinary stories come from the ashes of tragedy and trauma. Emma Agius recently hit the headlines with her fight in not only a personal battle, but a win that has implications for every woman in this country and across the continent.

Emma has spoken very openly about her challenges with mental health, her depression and suicidal thoughts. She has been very public about her experiences at the mental health facility in Malta, Mount Carmel, and being treated for borderline personality disorder.

But in 2022 Emma shared her account of her care worker visiting her at home, guiding her to get into bed and then getting into bed next to her, and rping her. As with so many instances of rpe, Emma did not scream, she fawned and froze - a reaction that is now widely recognised as a danger response.

However, when Emma pressed changes against the man in question the magisterial inquiry had concluded that the case did not constitute rape, as the sex was deemed consensual.

Emma’s battle for justice lead her to face the darkest days of her life, dealing not only with the assault itself and the shame that so many women and men feel as victims, but also the verdict that the perpetrator had not committed a crime and that her silence was interpreted as consent. Emma’s story, and the eventual win has implications for not just Emma, but all women, men and children as to what we deem as consent.

Emma’s account is honest, heartbreaking, graphic and powerful. A must-listen that is not necessarily comfortable, but crucial.

In this episode of The SHE Word, Trudy grills three content creators / influencers to find out the real truth behind what they do. 37% of 16-25 year-olds want to be a content creator, with an additional 13% already working in the industry.

Furthermore, a massive 57% of Gen Z globally express interest in the career. But what is the cost of building a following and constantly flooding the feed to beat the algorithm and stay on top?

Trudy sits down with Sporty Explorer Daniela Farrugia, Lovin Malta’s SMA’s Upcoming Content Creator runner up Josline Camilleri and Maltese Food Lovers Martina Morana to find out what being a content creator, influencer, inspiration takes in terms of time and dedication - and to discuss and understand the impact on relationships and mental heath.

In this show Trudy sits with these three well-known online creators to also tackle the topics of addictive algorithms, the constant pressures of performance insights and how they are affected by negative responses and online bullying.

The conversation dives into the question of an identity, and questions the importance of authenticity vs polished content, and asks ‘how personal and real should content really be?’

This is THE show for ANYONE who is online, follows creators and influencers and wants to know the truth behind the profile.

ADHD remains a largely misunderstood and often misdiagnosed condition. Despite growing awareness, chronic underdiagnosis has historically hindered millions from getting support.

Recent years however, have seen a surge in adult diagnoses. ADHD diagnoses in women aged 23–49 nearly DOUBLED between 2020 and 2022, with 50% of adult women diagnosed with ADHD received their diagnosis in adulthood, often after an average 5-year delay compared to men. Women are significantly more prone to misdiagnoses due to frequently masking their struggles.

Three well-known personalities join Trudy for this show to share their own journeys and experiences - the positive, and the very real challenges. Demaris Agius is a much loved content creator and advocate for ADHD, having received her ADHD diagnosis three years ago. Makenda is a Maltese resident, French national model, events producer and brand strategist who first spoke about her ADHD journey on The SHE Word over two years ago. Dr Chiara Frendo Balzan is one of Malta’s most well known Gynaecologists who recently spoke openly at The SHE Talks about her challenges with undiagnosed ADHD through childhood and her journey to become a doctor.

These women speak openly about being misunderstood, the feeling of failure, the loneliness that can come from isolation that is associated with ADHD. But the three guests so clearly instantly bond over their common bond, finishing each other’s sentences and nodding at the mention of the traits that define the condition, encouraging each other and referencing the Spiderman Meme that so aptly describes the connection between three women from different nationalities, different backgrounds, but instantly connected.

The group also address that whilst social media has helped reduce stigma, it has also led to concerns over the self-diagnosis of common, everyday struggles. Demaris also addresses the impact of digital devices on ADHD men and women, and the significance of screen time in children and the link to childhood ADHD symptoms

This show is heartfelt, positive and informative. If you have considered that you might have ADHD, this is the show for you. If you have ever used the phrase ‘I have undiagnosed ADHD’, this is the show for you. If you have a friend or family member with ADHD, this is the show for you. If you are just curious or want to be more informed, this is the show for you!

Let that sink in for a moment, one in three women will experience physical, emotional, mental, financial or sexual abuse from an intimate partner, a parent, a sibling or someone else within the home. But, there is life after DV as Pearl Vella-Harber so publicly demonstrated; there can be courage and closure after abuse.

The SHE Word dives into this topic for a third time as Trudy sits down with Pearl Vella Haber, Nancy Abela and Elaine Compagno to take a look at various stages of surviving and overcoming DV, from the acknowledgement of violence and calling it out for what it is, to planning an exit. Pearl shares the impact of her own experiences of manipulation, isolation, name calling and threats that shaped her childhood and early adult life; the turning point that helped her build her life again, as well as the breaking point that lead to her taking a stand and facing her perpetrators.

Miriana Conte is the fantastically flamboyant and often outrageous personality behind one of Malta’s most controversial Eurovision entries, which had gone viral all over the world even before she had won the national competition.

‘Serving Kant’ caused outcry in the UK particularly due to the play on words with Britain’s rudest swear word. English Eurovision host and BBC Radio presenter Scott Mills said on his radio show just before the song contest "We can't talk about Malta's one at all. We definitely can't play a clip of it... ever, on the BBC.”

The song also caused a significant stir here at home, with Miriana receiving overwhelming hate comments attacking her on her style, her song, her figure and her family.

But behind the public persona is a shy, wise, humble and incredibly likeable young women who is an outstanding vocalist and song writer. In this edition of SHE WARRIORS, Trudy sits down with Miriana for a deep dive into her image, ambitions, challenges, her battles, and the source of her self belief.

The two women take the conversation through the journey of Serving Kant and how this epic anthem was born; the inspiration, the response, the encouragement and the outrage.

The conversation takes a deep dive into the struggles she has faced with eating disorders, the pain and desperation she experienced as well as sharing the details of her long recovery to health. She touches on her battle with PCOS, also touches on the damaging relationship that could have ended her dream - and the people around her that cheered her to make it happen against all odds.

Miriana also delves into the hate comments that attacked her personally, as well as her family, from the Maltese population, the haters and the trollers. She shares her thoughts behind her recent response to one body shaming comment from a well known fitness influencer ‘Keep my name out of your mouth because you don’t know what I have been through’; a powerful message that resonated with women across the country.

This edition of SHE WARRIORS is a edgy, funny, honest, moving and inspiring look into the life of one of Malta’s most recognisable icons.

In the first quarter of 2026 three headlines hit the news ad sparked outrage; CNN published an investigation into a website who’s content included an ‘academy’ that not only instructed men on how to drg and rpe their wives and partners, but also published the footage of these crimes - the website received over 62 million views alone.

The UK government introduced new legislation to site public sexual harassment is a standalone criminal offense following research that indicates that 86% of young women (aged 18–24) in the UK have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces.

And lastly fifty-two cases of r*pe of women were reported to the police in Malta last year, statistically a case a day. But most data indicates that around 80-90% of incidents go unreported, with factors such as shame, fear of not being believed, and fear of retaliation preventing victims from reporting.

All three headlines brought long overdue attention to the crisis of SA and SH, with both men and women speaking out and calling for change but what happens when the algorithm moves on, what happens to the outcry, and most importantly what happens to the women left to face the often long lasting effects of harassment or assault.

In this hard hitting, openly honest and occasionally uncomfortable episode Trudy sits down with Beatboxer, songwriter and mindset coach Dana McKeon, empowerment coach Mei Berrit and Counselling Psychology Practitioner from Richmond Marie Noelle Lanzon to share personal experiences, delve into the impact of their experiences - physically emotionally, mentally and relationally - and talk through the topic with a focus on healing.

The conversation also looks at why perpetrators do what they do, the sliding scale of inappropriate and harmful behaviour, the culture of shame, and what we can do to change the attitude towards harmful behaviour and make a safer environment.

With 1 in 3 women experiencing SA and 85% of young women affected by SH, even if you haven’t personally been affected by the topic, someone close to you - someone you love has.

Watch and be informed, be seen, be educated, be influenced. Be Empowered.

Despite recently being awarded ‘The Most Remarkable Woman’ at the Mara Awards, Daniela Calleja Bitar is an extraordinarily private person, you will be hard pressed to find out anything about Daniela online. However, as the CEO of the Richmond Foundation, Daniela has dedicated her life to making change in the field of mental health and in doing so, affecting thousands of men and women.

Financial independence and security is a topic that I would suggest we ALL find hard to discuss. Talking about money is often an uncomfortable conversation, let alone discussing scams, investments and our financial security. However, finances and financial health is a topic that affects every single one of us in one way or another. For women particularly, financial security is crucial; over 70% of women are in employment but over 64% of women are also mothers, presenting the ‘career break challenge’ and the financial challenges that are associated with balancing both aspects of life.

In this special edition of The SHE Word, Trudy sits down with three women from the MFSA to discuss two main areas of financial health that are particularly topical right now.

Firstly Adelina Andreea Nechita from the MFSA Enforcement team tackles the topic of scams with Trudy. Scammers and scamming has become big business and is now a multi-billion Euro global illegal industry. Scamming is a high-tech, high turnover enterprise with one goal; to convince us to part with our money - using a variety of well practiced and effective tactics. None of us are immune to scammers, and with the rise of AI, these criminal networks have become even more convincing. Adelina and the guests share guidelines and tips to be able to spot a scammer in action, how to avoid loosing out and what to do if we are trapped by a scammer.

Following up from Adelina, Lorraine Vella from the MFSA addresses financial security before guiding the conversation through the topic of investments and financial futures. Breaking down the terms Capital Markets, Bonds, Stocks and Shares, Lorraine walks through the different investment options, the risks and rewards, and they ‘what you need to know’ before launching into an investment plan. Lorraine also guides SHE-Worders through the do’s and absolute donts of investing and cutting through the jargon and help viewers gain the confidence to navigate today’s financial markets.

Bring the conversation full circle, Sarah Pulis from the MFSA leads the topic of general good financial health with tangible tips and helpful hacks that we can all take away and start applying immediately to help us on a journey to better financial freedom and independence.

Wherever you are on your financial journey, however ‘healthy’, whatever your age - this show is the episode you didn’t know you needed. Full of practical application and insight, this conversation has something for everyone.

The opinions and views expressed are solely those of the individuals and do not necessarily reflect the official policy, position, or views of the MFSA.

Let’s face it. No-one expects a Breast Cancer Diagnosis. If we are really honest, I should imagine that most of us expect breast cancer to happen to someone else.

But with Breast cancer affecting approximately 1 in 10 women worldwide, and being the most common cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall, it is very likely that if you are not directly affected by breast cancer, someone close to you will be.

But a breast cancer diagnosis is not the end, and in this episode of SHE WARRIORS Trudy sits down with Monica Schembri who has not already faced breast cancer and overcome it, but is dealing with a second diagnosis. But as Monica has so often demonstrated, grace and a positive attitude makes a life changing difference in the face of adversity, not only to herself but to those around her.

In this brutally honest interview, Lithuanian born Monika openly talks about her breast cancer journey, from first noticing a lump on her chest, to the moment of hearing the diagnosis. She talks through her treatment, the all clear verdict, the news of her miracle pregnancy, the marriage that didn’t survive and the cancer diagnosis second time round. But rather than a story of sadness and despair, Monika’s is full of hope. Trudy digs deeper to find the source of Monika’s trademark attitude, and in doing so, finds profoundly wise words for anyone facing a challenge, or heartbreaking news.

Watch this edition of SHE WARRIORS to be inspired by an ordinary woman with an extraordinary story. The good, the bad and the hopeful.

What’s it really like to be a young woman working in media today? It’s a world that can be unpredictable, funny, and sometimes downright chaotic, full of bloopers, slip-ups, and unexpected encounters that make for the best stories.

But it also comes with very real challenges: balancing public and private life, handling criticism, and finding your own voice in an industry that isn’t always built to listen.

In this episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha, a former journalist who continues to work in media, is joined by three incredible guests: Naomi Scicluna, Head of Creative at FreeHour Malta and content creator; Angelica Farrugia, journalist and newscaster at TVM News; and Martha Attard, radio host and broadcasting producer at Vibe FM.

Together, the four women swap hilarious on-air mishaps and behind-the-scenes stories, while also reflecting on what it means to represent young women in spaces that remain largely male-dominated.

The conversation flows between laughter and honesty, from the pressure to always “look the part,” to the nerves of going live for the first time, to the joy of creating work that genuinely connects with people.

It’s about boundaries, burnout, ambition, and above all, the importance of finding joy in the middle of it all.

Lively, hilarious, and empowering, this episode captures what it really takes for young women in media to not just survive, but thrive.

Betrayal cuts deep — not just because of what happens, but because of who it happens with. In this raw and unfiltered episode of The SHE Word: Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella sits down with three bold young women to talk about one of the most personal and powerful experiences we face: betrayal.

Whether it’s a best friend, a partner, or even ourselves, betrayal can shake our sense of trust and identity. So why don’t we talk about it more?

Sasha is joined by Sarah Alfalah, a 25-year-old influencer and marketing strategist returning to The SHE Word; Mya Azzopardi, a 22-year-old national swimmer competing professionally in California while studying psychology; and Sarah Magri, a 26-year-old accountant, ballerina, and performer based in Malta.

In what feels like an intimate chat between friends the four ladies explore what betrayal looks like through a young woman’s eyes — from heartbreak and grief to boundaries, red flags, healing, and the strength it takes to choose yourself.

This is a vulnerable, honest, and deeply relatable conversation about what it means to navigate trust and identity as a young woman today. Whether you’ve experienced betrayal or want to better understand your own emotional boundaries, this episode offers insight, solidarity, and powerful reflections, on what it really means to choose yourself throughout it all.

In the latest lively, challenging, sometimes controversial, and absolutely empowering episode of the She Word Mums, host Nerissa Massa sits down with three mums to discuss the impact that motherhood has had on their sense of self and their identity.

At a time when women are encouraged to build a life for themselves, be financially independent and have careers, this show asks the essential questions that impact the very identity of a woman and her role as a mum. How much does life really change after becoming a mother and what are the elements that mothers give up? What is the impact of the physical changes that happen to a woman’s body after pregnancy and birth? What are the psychological impacts on a new mum who goes through intense hormonal changes? How does a mother navigate her new role and demands without loosing herself? We attempt to answer all this and more in this episode of the She Word. This is a raw and honest conversation with lots of laughter about women sharing their personal experience on how they felt when they were tasked with the role of mum.

Nerissa is joined by Tezara Saliba who is a mum, a teacher, an actress and a singer, Donna Cardona, a mum of four and founder of Mymama.mt, and Maria Muscat, a gestalt psychotherapist and mum of two.

Each of the guests bring very different post childbirth experiences to the table as they sit down to discuss, and disagree, about what happens to a women’s identity post having a child – is it lost, is it the same or does it change?

The show delves into the importance of looking after ourselves, and making sure that we get the right support, whether that is from a partner, family member of external help, and how this can help to still retain some of the identity that you were familiar with before.

We all grew up with ideas about sex that were passed down to us — from school, family, or even the media. But how much of what we were told actually helped us understand our bodies, our choices, or our pleasure? This is THE conversation we wish we had growing up.

In this episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella sits down with three bold, thoughtful voices — Antonella Bugeja, 23, an artist, medical student, and certified sex-ed trainer passionate about exploring sexuality through science and art; Timara Saliba, a working professional and part-time yoga teacher who believes breaking the silence around pleasure is key to empowerment; and Mariah Mangion, 21, a law student and singer-songwriter focused on shifting the narrative from glamorised sex to honest, human experiences — for a conversation that strips back the shame and gets real about what sex can and should be.

Together they explore topics like consent, pleasure, pressure, confidence, and communication, reflecting on the moments that shaped their own understanding and what they wish they had been taught.

With studies showing that over 50% of young women say they were never taught about pleasure in sex education, this conversation is long overdue. It’s not about judgment — it’s about curiosity, honesty, and reclaiming the conversation.

Whether you're reflecting on your own experiences or still figuring it all out, this episode offers a safe, insightful space to feel seen and heard. Tune in and join the dialogue — it starts here.

This episode of the She Word Mums explores Mum Rage – a topic which probably doesn’t get the attention it deserves because it is engulfed in shame.

Mum rage can be described as intense feelings of anger, frustration or emotional overwhelm experienced by mothers, often in response to the mental, emotional, and physical demands of parenting.

If you are a mum, you are likely to have experience this at some point or other during your motherhood journey as at least 60% of mums claim to have felt this. However, not many of us feel comfortable talking about it, or admitting it, for fear we will be judged or deemed a bad mum.

This show helps to change the stigma around mum rage and helps mothers who experience this feel less alone, and understand that was is happening is not permanent, does not ruin their children, and most definitely will not make them a bad mother.

Join Nerissa Massa and her three guests explore this, talk about their own experiences, and also understand how to cope after an episode of rage. We also talk about the importance of partner support, working on your own regulation, and making sure to find time for yourself as important factors to lower the episodes where you go into rage.

Our three guests for this week’s show are Maria Buckle, freelance actress and mummy to 2 girls, who admits that her motherhood journey was not free of these episodes of rage, and although she feels guilty, she then chooses to repair with her children. Emma Hogg is also a mummy, but a psychotherapist who has spent years working on her own personal development and has seen the benefits of this in that she experiences far less rage than probably other mums. Her tips and her empathy will help mums feel like they can definitely overcome this with the right support and work put in.

Our last guest is Danita Camilleri – most commonly known on social media as One Chick and a Yorkie, she has on many occasions spoken openly about sometimes losing it with her son. Danita talks about this happening to her more now that her son is getting older rather than in his baby days.

This is a show that should not be missed – as our guests talk candidly and openly about their experiences, and ensuring that any mum listening who might feel immense guilt at her episodes of mum rage feels seen and not alone.

Every single woman who makes it to her 40s is going to be affected by perimenopause and menopause in one way or another. There literally is no escaping one of the most significant journeys that every woman has to travel.

Historically knowledge, information, research and support for this transition has been shockingly and unacceptably absent. Only in the past few years has it been recognised that perimenopause lasts around 7 years, not 1 year, and that there are over 65 recognised symptoms - far beyond the traditional hot flash or night sweat.

Whilst conversations concerning Menopause have become much more open and honest, there is still a great deal of understanding and discussion missing regarding perimenopause, making it for some far more challenging, darker and often more depressing than menopause itself.

As hormone levels spike and fall erratically, women are far more likely to be described antidepressants than explained lifestyle changes to accommodate this natural and necessary stage of life.

In this BRILLIANT and CRUCIAL show, Trudy sits down with three women to blow apart any misconception about the Perimenopause journey and delve into what is really happening, and how to navigate the perimenopause path.

Joining Trudy is Chiara Frendo Balzan; our resident Gyne on The SHE Word - much loved Chiara regularly sheds light on the challenges women face as part of the journey of being a woman, particularly Perimenopause and Penopause.

The Naked Pharmacist aka Marie Micallef, a certified lifestyle coach & licensed pharmacist, empowers women to heal naturally, guiding them to listen to their bodies & make informed choices. She is dedicated to empowering women to harness their body’s innate healing abilities.

Angele Galea is an Artistic Director, producer, actor, fine artist, teacher, writer at More or Less Theatre. Angele brings lived experience to the conversation and shares her journey of Perimenopause.

If you are in your 40s, or even approaching your 40s, this is an essential show for YOU. Hormone fluctuations, symptoms, cycles, periods, pain, diagnosis, duration, lifestyle changes, mediation, supplements, and so much more ALL DISCUSSED and EXPLAINED in a clear and transparent way you’ve probably never heard before.

Make time to understanding the challenges and changes that you will be experiencing as a woman celebrating the next stage of life. Be empowered, be prepared.

Let’s face it, life isn’t easy. None of us are immune from the challenges, curve balls, trauma or tragedies that life can throw at us, but so often we are told ‘look on the bright side’ or ‘something good will come out of it’. Sometimes the pressure to stay positive can seem more toxic than encouraging.

In this show Host Sasha Vella dives into the true power of positivity, the strength in vulnerability, hope in the face of fear and turning up with grace in the most challenging circumstances, and joining Sasha are three women who speak from incredible personal experience.

Breast cancer survivor Monica Schembri found herself as a single mum of three soon after the birth of her third child, but as a true warrior spreads positivity through her adversity.

Rachel Spiteri has dealt with loss, grief, abuse, divorce, mental health struggles and rebuilding her life post divorce, but has harnessed the strength within her to rise back up.

Karla Harper, content creator calls herself a ‘Negative Nancy turned Positive Polly’ with a relatable story of self transformation.

Find encouragement and empowerment in these women’s courageous stories. Relate to the challenges they have faces in their journeys and see the hope that lies in the honest, raw, rough, unglamorous, unpolished power of positivity.

This powerful and sometimes-painful show revisits the topic of the Narcissist. Last year The SHE Word aired an astounding mini series titled ‘Living with a Narcissist - Its not about YOU’ (link at bottom). The series has had over 30k views and listens and continues to change lives today.

We often talk about narcissistic abuse from the perspective of a partner or spouse, but rarely do focus on the long term and devastating impact a narcissistic parent has on a child and family. In this show Trudy and the guests delve into the roles children are moulded into as part of a narcissistic family dynamic and how this can potentially shape a young and innocent child for the rest of their lives. The show also looks at how to identify the impact and where to start with dealing with the damage.

Joining Trudy is Roberta Farrugia Debono - clinical psychologist and a family therapist and a frequent friend of the show, Claire Borg - Psychotherapist and Co-Founder at Indigo Psychology Services Malta working with adults on issues related to trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, bereavement, depression, relationships and Caroline Vassallo is a Gestalt Psychotherapist with a special interest in Narcissism and Childhood Trauma.

The conversation navigates through the true definition of a Narcissist, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the 12 Narcissistic traits that lead to a diagnosis. Trudy and her expert guests also discuss the impact on family members, especially children, and the related childhood trauma, as well as the passage towards identifying a trauma childhood and how to navigate towards a full and healthy life as a trauma survivor.

A powerful and game-changing episode for all narcissist survivors.

This brilliantly lively, entertaining, sometimes heartbreaking show looks at one of the most neglected topics of discussion; we talk about relationships, we talk about family, children, partners, work colleagues - but rarely do we intentionally talk about and acknowledge the value of friendship.

According to new research, we make just 29 real friends in our lifetime and only 6 of them will last the distance. A study, which charted the social lives of 2,000 people, showed that we lose touch with almost 50% of the friends that we make. Which echos the theory that we have friends for a reason, friends for a season and friends for life. Not only do friendships come and go naturally, but sometimes we loose valued friendships through circumstance, distance, misunderstanding or we decide to break off friendships that are no longer positive.

In this episode, Trudy takes a deep dive into the topic of friendship with three guests who have three different view points, with very different lived experiences. Trudy is joined by the brilliantly outspoken Denise Kim Gafa, bold-as-brass Chelsea Bagnall and wonderfully lively Melissa Speigner.

Laugh and cry with these women as they navigate how much friendship means, the loneliness without friends, what happens when friends drift away, friendship break ups, the big NO NOs in friendship, and the old adage ‘Friends for a reason, friends for a season and friends for life’.

Whatever your friendship status is right now, feel seen in this brutally honest and open show. A great show for every single woman.

We’ve been told to just “get on with it.” That pain is normal. That hormones make us overreact. But for many young women, periods aren’t just a monthly inconvenience — they’re a debilitating, misunderstood, and often dismissed struggle.

In this deeply personal and eye-opening episode of The SHE Word – Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella leads an honest conversation about problem periods: cycles that derail your life, impact your mental health, and are too often gaslit by doctors, misunderstood by parents, and silenced by society.

Sasha opens up about her own experience of painful, emotionally overwhelming periods that started when she was just 12 — and the years she spent not understanding what was happening in her body.

She’s joined by three powerful voices, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. Sammy McEleny, 36, has been battling endometriosis for most of her life, enduring years of misdiagnosis, confusion, and chronic pain. Lara Vella, 26, is an artist who was put on the pill at 16 without a diagnosis and has since taken her healing into her own hands after fainting, vomiting, and enduring feverish pain with every cycle. And Dr Chiara Frendo Balzan, a leading gynaecologist and returning SHE Word expert, brings medical clarity to the conversation, helping to break down the myths and stigma surrounding menstrual health.

Together, they explore the medical gaslighting so many women face, the toll hormonal imbalances can take on mental health, and the shame that still surrounds periods — especially in conservative cultures like Malta’s.

This episode is a must-watch for every young woman who’s ever felt confused, dismissed, or alone in her menstrual journey — and for every teacher, parent, partner, and policymaker who needs to understand that painful periods are not “just part of being a woman.”

The world is changing at a dramatic rate, no one disputes this, let’s face it - most of us struggle to keep up. Well, AI is one game changer that is here to stay - and is becoming part of our lives whether we are aware of it or not - and in this show The SHE Word sits down with three experts to examine the good, the bad, and the downright alarming.

If you didn’t know, simply by design and not by a sinister plan, AI has an inherent male gender bias, meaning that we are all interacting with male gender biased technology solutions everyday.

This can be attributed partially to the individuals behind AI creation. Out of nearly 1.6 million AI professionals worldwide there is a stark gender imbalance, women comprise only 22% of AI talent globally, with even lower representation at senior levels – occupying less than 14% of senior executive roles in AI. Within the EU, the disparity is equally concerning.

“AI systems, learning from data filled with stereotypes, often reflect and reinforce gender biases,” says Zinnya del Villar. “These biases can limit opportunities and diversity, especially in areas like decision-making, hiring, loan approvals, and legal judgments.” - and one area that is of HUGE concern is the medical profession - as we lean on technology based medical solutions more and more.

Joining Host Trudy Kerr to tackle this topic is three experts in this field:

Dr Vanessa Camilleri is a Senior Lecturer, Department of AI, University of Malta .Vanessa, Doctor Vanessa has a life long career in education - more specifically focussed on technology over the past decade.

Izzy Hyzler is the CEO of Growth Gurus, who has a passion for data-driven decision making - Growth Gurus is an award winning agency based here in Malta, but serving clients all over the world.

Natalia Mallia is a lead AI Engineer, deep learning specialist and data scientist with a passion for building intelligent systems that make a real impact. Natalia manages AI operations and cross-team integration at Axon Park. Overseeing AI feature development, deployment, and consistency across departments to ensure smooth platform functionality.

Watch this informative, educational and entertaining show to learn everything you need to know about AI, how we can make this technology enhance our lives, what we need to be aware of, how the male gender bias may be working against women, what we should be concerned about in relation to our children and AI, and how we can retain a healthy relationship with AI for today, and future generations.

In this very first episode of The She Word Mums, Host Nerissa and Guests discuss one of the most common themes that surround motherhood, but a topic that is not always spoken about – Mum Guilt and Mum Judgement. Research shows that over 90% of Mums experience Mum guilt at some point or another during their motherhood journey, and most Mums also go one to experience shame and inadequacy. Surprisingly, a big part of this guilt and shame is brought about by others (Mums) passing judgement on parenting decisions.

In the first Mum-focused show, the ladies dive into, and explore, what Mum Guilt means, why they are made to feel Mum Guilt, the influence of social media on Mum Guilt amongst others. Nerissa and the guest explore ways of how to mitigate guilt and have more self compassion for themselves as Mums.

In this first show of this new series, host Nerissa Massa, Mum of two, is joined by Melissa Gatt, a south African living in Malta – influencer and content creator and Mum of three, Rosalie Borg – pro athlete and PE teacher and Mum of two, and Gail , a stay at home Mum of two. The shocking statistics are that only 0.5% of rape cases in the EU lead to conviction. And 97% of rapists never see a day behind bars. Even when women speak out, justice is rarely served.

In this powerful episode of The SHE Word’s Young Women’s Edition, host Sasha Vella leads a crucial discussion on consent, a topic that remains misunderstood, ignored, and legally unprotected in Malta.

Consent isn’t just about saying yes or no — it’s about autonomy, boundaries, respect, and education. Yet, despite growing awareness, systemic failures continue to put women at risk.

Joining Sasha at the table are three outstanding guests; Emma Agius, Antonella Bugeja, and Mel McElhatton, who bring both first-hand experience and professional insight to the conversation.

Emma Agius shares her personal experience of being failed by Malta’s legal system as a rape survivor, while Antonella Bugeja and Mel McElhatton examine the psychological effects of consent violations and how young women can be empowered to assert their boundaries in relationships, dating, and daily life. Together, they explore the legal gaps that fail survivors, the lasting impact of sexual violence, and the urgent need for better education and awareness.

As Malta remains one of 15 EU countries that does not define rape based on lack of consent, this episode asks: what needs to change?

This is a conversation that every young woman—and man—needs to hear.

According to statistics sobriety and the Sober Curious Culture is on the increase. This January 1 in 3 adults over 21 said they wanted to take a month off drinking alcohol for the month and it is estimated that 1 in 4 adults completed the challenge.

But, what if alcohol presents a longer term issue? What if alcohol is a means of escape from trauma or challenges? What if getting tipsy becomes more than just a means to relax in social situations? And what is drinking alone becomes more than the odd occurrence and turns into an uncontrollable habit?

In this deeply personal and moving episode, Trudy sits down with her three guests to share the painful reasons behind her relatively recent choice to stop drinking. The four ladies discuss the cold reality of today’s drinking culture, the pressure to conform, the alcoholic gene, and the reasons her guests have chosen a sober route.

South African - Maltese Influencer Melissa Gatt shares her personal struggles of social drinking and motivation behind her decision to quit alcohol 4 years ago. Empowerment Coach Mei Berrit returns to the show to discuss this topic after first sharing her story on the show Women and Addiction - celebrating 2 and a half years of sobriety. And influencer Therese Galea (offdisisland) brings a different perspective to the topic; mum of two and pregnant with her third child, Therese shares her new evaluation of social drinking after 7 months of abstaining.

The four women go on to delve into the pressures to drink, the benefits of not drinking, and how the sober choice has changed their lives. The conversation is personal, relatable and often very funny as these ladies navigate a rarely-discussed topic.

Sobriety is not for everyone, but if you have even considered your drinking choices, or the choices of someone close to you, this is a MUST SEE.

Health challenges among young women are increasingly concerning. In Europe, cancer rates are rising sharply for young women, particularly for breast, thyroid, and colorectal cancers. Despite its prevalence, Endometriosis—which affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age globally—is often left undiagnosed, leading to years of chronic pain and infertility struggles. Meanwhile, around 20-25% of young women report experiencing chronic pain, often due to being misdiagnosed or inadequately treated.

In this powerful episode, Host Sasha Vella is joined by three brave women who open up about their personal battles with health.

Cheyenne Muscat, a 26-year-old dancer and graphic designer, has been living with Thyroid Cancer for the last few years. She opens up about how she continues to pursue her passion while living with this life-changing diagnosis.

And finally, Debbie Cachia brings a unique perspective to the conversation as she reflects on battling cancer after being pregnant at just 28 years old. Probably one of the oldest guests ever on the Young Women’s Edition, her story is a testament to the strength and resilience women show in the face of unimaginable challenges — and what it’s like to be on the other side.

Listen to these incredible women as they share their deeply personal stories of health struggles, resilience, and hope, as they give us a glimpse of their reality.

In this Women's Health Special in partnership with the Vivian Corp, The SHE Word returns with a topic that is impacting women all over the world, and most of us have an opinion, one way or another - BUT Med-Aesthetics are here to stay. Botox was undoubtedly the number one non-invasive procedure in 2023.

Over 7.4 million people in the US alone are receiving Botox treatments, and globally the Botox market is worth about € FOUR BILLION. As of 2023, the average dermal filler market report estimates the total market value of dermal fillers at € FIVE BILLION globally with a year on year growth estimated at 10%. Whether you are a teenager or an older woman, Botox, Fillers and other beauty related procedures are becoming part of everyday conversation. Whilst Med-Aesthetics can certainly help us slow down the signs of aging, and enhance our facial attributes, Med-Aesthetic also carry risks and responsibility - and this is also part of the discussion in this show.

Sarah Bajada is TV presenter & book author, Sarah is also a mum, healthy lifestyle enthusiast as well as committed to empowering other women who are facing challenges. But Sarah is here on this show as an advocate of Med-Aesthetics. Katrine Agius is a Medical Representative, specialising in Med-Aesthetics and the products and procedures used, working with Vivian Corp to ensure safer Med-Aesthetics in Malta. Dr. Charlene Scicluna is an Aesthetic Doctor and Specialist in Family Medicine at CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics.

In this show we look at what Botox and Fillers are, what positive affects they can have for a woman, and what happens when Med-Aesthetics are applied badly, or just too much. We also discuss the fake products that are flooding the market - and what they can do to a woman's face, along with the necessary qualifications administering for these sensitive procedures - and what can go wrong in the hands of the unqualified.

As Med-Aesthetics are here to stay, this show is a MUST for all women, today and for the future.

In the forth part of this series Trudy sits down with Dr Rose Galea to ask one of the BIGGEST questions of the series - How do you deal with a Narcissist, and what are the repercussions of my interactions?

Dr Rose addresses some of the common challenges when dealing with Narcissistic Personalities:

• Should I confront the individual and tell them what they are?

• Can I win an argument with a narcissist? Should I even try?

• It is very typical for a narcissist to spiral a situation out of my control, how do I regain control of the situation? Or cant it?

• How can I avoid gaslighting - what happens if I react?

In this 5 part series we are looking at Narcissistic Personalities and the effect they have on those around them.

In the third part of this series Trudy sits down with Mariella Dimech to look at at how to identify a Narcissist. Narcissism is a term that is very popular these days, but to define a narcissist is more significant than just someone who is moody or can be a bit mean. But to be able to protect yourself it is important to know what we are dealing with.

We all can carry some narcissistic traits, but we ask 'if I think that there is a member of my family, a partner, a friend, a colleague or boss who is narcissistic, how can I be sure?', 'what are the behaviours that I am looking for?'

Whilst in most cases Botox, Fillers and other MedAesthetic procedures are relatively painless, harmless and achieve great results, recent reports of ‘industry cowboys’ are worrying. The possible long term impact of ‘botched’ procedures can be devastating.

For the fourth episode of season two, host Sasha Vella is joined by yoga and embodiment practitioner Mariah Gatt, medical biochemist Giulia Aquilina, and psychology student Andrea Mifsud, to dive into the changing world of a woman’s body.

The show starts off by exploring a term which, although is not medically recognised, perfectly encapsulates the changes that a woman’s body goes through when transitioning into adulthood. From hormone imbalances and weight gain, to changes in hair health and adult acne, “the 2nd puberty” is a useful way to describe the ongoing physical and emotional changes women experience as they age, particularly between their twenties and forties.

While the show directly touches upon personal experiences, our guests also provide their insight on how to deal with such changes in a healthy and compassionate way, given they don’t just affect the physical, but can also impact the mental aspect of a woman’s health. It seeks to empower and educate, and shed light onto realities often overlooked in a young woman’s life.

It is a harsh truth that the majority of young men and women in Malta would actually rather live outside of Malta; 77% of millennials, and 72% of Gen-Z, wanting to live abroad, according to an EY Generate Youth Survey published in 2022. The survey also found that 93% of young people believe the state of Malta’s environment is getting worse. However, this is not a topic that is exclusive to Malta, with many Europeans choosing to seek a better life outside of the country they were born in.

Host Sasha Vella is joined by three brilliant people whose careers all touch upon varying disciplines, but all share one thing in common - the desire to go far beyond the Maltese shores.

Sam Vassallo is an artist, poet, and writer, who has already spent some time living and working abroad; Martina Borg, a 17-year-old singer who has participated in Malta’s X Factor competition and has strong feelings on why young women want to move abroad, and Jade Borg who is The SHE Word’s own make up artist, and originally came up with the suggestion for this show following her extensive traveling experiences.

In this show host Sasha and guests touch on the reasons for wanting to leave the Maltese Islands, the reality of career prospects abroad, the challenge of living away from friends and family, the truths about being in a foreign country.

Watch this show to listen to the thoughts, reasoning and challenges of a topic that affects so many young women today. Conversations young women rarely have, but really should.

Some conversations are rarely had because they are controversial. It would be easy to avoid discussing topics that may be emotive, but that's not what we do on The SHE Word, we believe it is important to talk about even the most challenging topics, even if we don't agree. Defining the identity of a woman is not a topic that we would have considered perhaps even 5 years ago, but in an age where definitions are ever developing and inclusion is an important agenda, Women and Identity is a topic that will increasingly touch each of our lives in some way or another. Following an edition of Sue Caruana's Friday feature 'Keeping it Reel' when Sue expressed her concern that some aspects of inclusion may be at the cost of women's rights, the response was polarised and phenomenal. It was clear that there needed to be an in depth discussion on the topic. Three women with varied viewpoints sit down together with host Trudy Kerr to discuss one of today's most emotive topics. Alexia DeBono is self-employed writer and digital marketer, but also the Co-President of the Volt Malta Party, Dr Maria Pisani is a senior lecturer at the University of Malta and cofounder and director of the Integra Foundation, and Sue Caruana who has been on The SHE Word twice before with Body Modification and Surviving Relationship Trauma as well as contributing a popular Friday afternoon reel to the channel.
