Does everything have to have a serious purpose? Is there value in exploring rabbit holes even if they end up to be completely empty at the bottom?
I tackle these questions via an absolutely RIDICULOUS personal story about one of my most recent rabbit hole explorations...I think you will find it amusing. It's okay if you are laughing at me and not with me.
Ultimately, I discuss two words that I love, frivolous and frolic, and draw some connections and, hopefully, a meaningful point.

Have you ever heard someone say, "Good teaching is good teaching...doesn't matter what the subject is?"
I agree!! It's all about the principles of powerful pedagogy...or what I refer to as the chord structure. That's why I have been able to successfully deliver the Teach Like a Pirate program to groups of educators who are completely outside of my subject matter expertise and who teach any age of student from pre-k to adult learner.
So in this episode I dive into what I mean by the chord structure of powerful teaching.

Knowing when you have enough is a key concept when seeking happiness. Some people never find it. Never enough money. Never enough information or research in order to make a decision. Their work is never quite good enough to ship. There's always more options to explore before taking action. They have analysis paralysis. The truth is that we can many times get as good...or even better results by letting some of that pressure go and understanding the minimum effective dose that gets us almost everything that we truly need.

Daylight Saving Time and the whole idea of flipping the clock back and forth seems so archaic. Why do we still do it???
Well, this episode isn't really about that! It's about asking, "What else are we still doing that just doesn't make sense anymore?"
Using the DST debate as a backdrop, Dave asks you to ponder what would happen if we put all of our practices and routines on the table and really examined them to see if they are worth continuing. If you were stating from scratch...right now...would you still do it this way? Let us know what you think using the #DaveBurgessShow hashtag on social media!!!

The deeply authentic and courageously vulnerable, Marisol Rerucha, joins me to discuss her new book, Beyond the Surface of Restorative Practices: Building a Culture of Equity, Connection, & Healing. Marisol shares how this is a way of BEING, not just a strategy, and that this work is for EVERYONE in the community and not just the students. Learn how the roots of restorative practices can be found in the Indigenous communities of the past (and carried on through the present) and how this is more than a mindset...it is a heartset. So many powerful takeaways about healing, forgiveness, connections, self-care, and more. Our friend and colleague, John Berray, passed away under tragic circumstances in 2020. Father, husband, educator, San Diego County Teacher of the Year, friend...and much more. His memorial was scheduled for Pi Day last March 14th, 2020 and it had to be canceled due to the breakout of the pandemic and much of the world shutting down on March 13th. One year later...here we are...still in the grasp of Covid-19. This is the eulogy I wrote to represent The Five Guys and our special relationship. It would have been delivered with the other 3 (Jarrod Carman, Dan McDowell, & Reuben Hoffman) up on stage with me. One of the cruelties of the pandemic has been the inability to gather together to celebrate, to mourn, to grieve, to commemorate, to memorialize...none of it. With a special thanks to Michele Berray for granting her blessing...here it is exactly one year later on March 14th, 2021. Pi Day. Feel free to share your thoughts on social media using the #DaveBurgessShow hashtag. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen. If you knew John...well, then you know he was a remarkable man. If you didn't know him, we wish you would have had the chance. We miss you, John.
