Ephesians 2:11-14, 19-22
This Sunday July 19th we are continuing with our 4 part series on "Why UCC.?" What brings us together, as the UCC? What do we care about, passionately? What do we share with other churches . . . and what makes us unique and different from others? -Rev. Andy Schwiebert
At the National UCC Coalition dinner two weeks ago in Cleveland Rodney Walker, a UCC layperson from the Dallas area, asked if we were vulnerable to "spiritual obesity" - taking God's Word and not doing anything with it! This is an engaging and challenging way to address a long time concern of our Christian faith - how do we live up to God's command to love ourselves and our neighbor? Are we able to walk the talk given all the stress and busy-ness of our lives? Do we find our faith have any affect on our choices and practices in our daily lives? -Rev. John H. Pomeroy
We will reflect on the story of the execution of John the Baptist by Herod, and then remember some of the ways our denomination has played the role of the prophetic challenge to our society's status quo over the years. -Rev. Andy Schwiebert
Led by Rev. Willetta Helene, will focus on the mission of "The Soldiers Project," a group of volunteer mental health professionals who have answered the call of "serving those who have served." Today's returning veterans are being welcomed home and even report being stopped on the streets and thanked for their service to our country, but there are many opportunities beyond a verbal expression of gratitude to help them readjust to civilian life. We all have a responsibility and our individual "Call' to contribute to "serve those who have served."
