This is Episode 2, take 2. The first recording was cut short.

The intention is to help/guide other teachers interested in teaching GCSE Computing and for those in the know to highlight any mistakes or errors I make.

If you think this is worthwhile, please let me know, and if you have comments to make, please do so via this page or @teknoteacher or alan@odonohoe.org.uk

This is the 'pilot' episode, and I'm not even sure if I'm doing the right thing. If I know there is an appreciative audience I will maintain this. Equally, if it can be tweaked to suit your needs better - please let me know, I wont be offended. The intention is to help other teachers interested in GCSE Computing. If it's not working it's a waste of my time and yours, so please let me know, via this page or @teknoteacher or alan@odonohoe.org.uk

There is a mistake in it - see if you can spot it, somebody else did. Which I will correct in the next episode.

You can now download this in iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/alan-odonohoes-boos/id482494084# I have written and performed this to try to persuade children of the merits of choosing to study GCSE Computing at school. I decided to try something different from handouts, lectures and posters. I wanted something that would really grab their attention. Lyrics available here http://teachcomputing.wordpress.com/2011/12/31/hacktothefuture-rap/ I've tried to polish up my hack rap a little. I was told my voice was too posh, so I have tried to sound a little more aggressive. Now - next step is to produce a video to accompany it.

View Details

It's very rough and not quite ready. Looking for some feedback. I wanted a different way to get a message to children in Year 9 at our school who will be making their GCSE subject choices in January. So I plan to record a parody of a rap video in school, teachers dancing etc. then put it on YouTube. I only wish my rapping didn't sound so flat - I need some vocal coaching.

Disappointed with myself for not giving a more clear talk on Hack To The Future and raising profile of girls in computing science.

In this audioboo recording, you can hear some of my Year 10 GCSE Computing class wrestling with what appears to be a simple programming challenge. In pairs, they have been asked to create a simple program using Python that will receive two numbers and then display the sum of these two numbers.

After a lesson in which the children taught the rest of the class, I ask the 'teachers' and pupils what they thought of it. Year 7 have been introduced to Python programming, the lesson focus has been integers, operators, expressions and variables

At the start of the evening I noticed a parent who seemed a little sceptical about the contribution she could make to an evening for families to create computer games together.
