THE WCHL PODCAST: Recent Episodes

Western Collegiate Hockey League

WCHL Commissioner Chris Perry, trusty sidekick Andrew Magerkurth and special WCHL guests discuss the Western Collegiate Hockey League (ACHA Men's Division 1) and a lot of other non-hockey related topics on this incredibly mediocre podcast. While we try to focus on the WCHL, which is comprised of collegiate hockey teams from Arizona, Arizona State, Central Oklahoma, Colorado, Colorado State, Grand Canyon, Missouri State, Nevada-Las Vegas, Oklahoma & Utah, we admit we get distracted and talk music, food, stories from the road, and whatever else pops into the limited minds of two guys that are definitely "not hockey guys".

Chris and Andrew wind up the 25-26 season with another imperfect edition of The WCHL Podcast! They discuss the results from Nationals, instant replay, future sites for Nationals, the ACHA Annual Meeting in Nashville and some important policy and rule changes made there for the upcoming season! All this plus lawn talk, NCAA 5x5, another WCHL Fight Club, Angine de Poitrine, Send Help, and much more!

Finally, there are some winds of change in the WCHL and that also means change here at The WCHL Podcast, so Chris and Andrew take some time to reflect on 10 years of snark, silliness, and uninformed opinions from two non-hockey guys! Thanks to all 14 listeners for your support over the years! For one last time, a craptastic edition of your favorite podcast is ready to assault your aural sensibilities! Click and enjoy!

It's been a minute since our last podcast so Chris and Andrew have a lot to discuss - they get started with the WCHL scores from the past few weeks including sweeps in Oklahoma and Colorado, a Cactus Cup winner, and a Camelback Cup winner! The final conference standings are in, there's a smidge of WCHL news for next season, and then it's all about Nationals (FIVE WCHL teams are in the field of 24!), autobids, bumps, juicy first round matchups, and some likely Final Four teams! After that, the guys talk harvesting black willow trees, Albert Lea, windchill, stuck trucks, Honey Vanilla, and OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS for the USA Men AND Women! An overstuffed edition of your favorite craptastic podcast is just a click away! Enjoy!

Drury Assistant Coach Cliff Cook takes a break from one of his many podcast platforms to slum around with the Commish on this episode of The WCHL Podcast, as Andrew is grounded this week and had his phone taken away! Chris and Cliff put the most recent ranking under the most powerful of microscopes and provide keen insights you'll only find here. The guys then move on to pretend Nationals matchups, game results and game predictions before things really veer into the realm of the craptastic with talk of Olympics, Runza, gameday roster limitations, Blake's Lotaburger, the return of the M1 Nationals Selection Show, scheduling concepts, beer and beef jerky sponsorships, and much more! Cliff is so good at this and brings a touch of maturity and class to the pod, so have a listen and savor the brilliance!

Only three more weeks to go until the end of the ACHA M1 regular season and the rankings are coming into focus more and more! Chris & Andrew kick this suboptimal edition of the pod into gear with the latest rankings and some proof of concept discussion when it comes to scheduling theories. A peek at what Nationals would look like as of today, some advice for teams in two certain brackets, and autobid prognostications are also on tap before the guys get into the upcoming games involving WCHL teams, the Naked Gun, conversation hearts, hotels in the boonies, cheesesticks, Lake Placid, and an appreciation for all the places and all the people that this beautiful game has brought into our lives, even though we're not hockey people! New Year, same crappy podcast! Chris & Andrew are back from hiatus and drop some ACHA tidbits before getting into all the games played by WCHL teams since the semester started (there were A LOT of them!), the most current rankings and where the WCHL teams are (or aren't), and the outlook for Nationals. After that, the guys hit a wide-range of topics, from musical theatre to Pop-Tarts to shallow programs looking for clout instead of substance to the joy of breakfast for dinner! All that and much more! 2026 may be full of hope and promise but this suboptimal episode reminds you that mediocrity continues to thrive for some of us! Enjoy!

The Fall 2025 semester is in the books and games are over but the work behind the scenes never stops in the ACHA! There are some tidbits and slices of info to be discerned before the guys have some fun figuring out when the next ranking is coming out! And then, as promised, the guys start up their WCHL Midseason/Half-Year Awards (and kick in some ACHA-wide opinions too!) Whaddya think, agree with them? Disagree wholeheartedly? Maybe you're asking why did this podcast appear in my feed, who's to say? They finish with a cranky flourish before saying goodbye to 2025. Apologies in advance for the inadvertent bomb but the most nonsensical nothingburger of a podcast is just a click away! Stay safe, stay warm, and have a very Merry Christmas from the two goofs at The WCHL Podcast! See you in 2026!

Proving once again that The WCHL Podcast is suboptimal and poorly produced, this week's pod is an abbreviated episode due a power surge that zapped 52 minutes of excellence, leaving only the 21 minutes here before you now. Andrew & Chris do their best, but it's a whirlwind trip through the normal topics before landing on the nonsense that typically ends the pod! The Computer has taken over and Andrew & Chris are all over it! They dissect the first computer ranking of the season inside and out, top to bottom, side to side, until there's not much left to analyze. So they get into last week's WCHL game results to see how Andrew's predictions fared, a live look-in during UA at UNLV, conference standings, and terrible predictions for this week's games. Then the fun really begins with banter about Halloween vs Christmas, weekly WCHL Trivia Bowl results, visiting the Oklahoma City National Memorial, Almost Famous, smooth intermission jazz, Slow Horses, blanket parties, Mammoth, Clown Town and The Uncool! The wheels come off after that as the guys get into Halloween costumes, which is the best candy to receive and which candy everyone should avoid, an impromptu WCHL Fight Club matchup or two, tortilla rolls, America's Got Talent, and much more! Great friend of the pod, Cliff Cook, Asst Coach at Drury, steps in to pinch-hit for Andrew, who has gone AWOL once again! Coach Cook seemingly does 18 different podcasts a week but one stands above them all, the All Angles Pod, which the guys talk about for a bit before getting into the usual stuff about rankings, results from WCHL (and Drury) games this past week, and predictions for this week's games in the WCHL and around the ACHA (hint: he's into splits)! And then the magic happens as Cliff delves into Canadian Thanksgiving, pink ice, the upcoming Chicago Classic, designing jerseys, math gurus, the term "religious adjacent", YouTube viewing recommendations, and much more! Meanwhile, UNLV coolly takes care of business in Fort Collins! The race for the WCHL Championship comes down to two games on the last weekend of the regular season - will UCO win out in regulation to force a tie and win the title due to the tiebreaker?
