Yael Gavish and Matt Kona , two comedians from Boston (Yael is from Israel though!)do comedy. Where are you REALLY from is a comedy show Yael created on 2017 with different comedians from all around the world now turning into a podcast with special comedians guests! stay tuned!
It’s the final movie of the month! The first sequel we’ve done too, and it’s a good one. We travel across the pond to not so Jolly Old England to watch “The Conjuring 2” and see some 70’s modern technology try to detect some grumpy old man spirits and in a connection to the first movie of the month, a very mean #demonic #nun. So brew up a spot of tea, grab a crumpet and watch or listen to the final #Halloween movie recap of 2020!
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Another classic #Korean story, but this time it’s filtered through the lens of an American teen drama about a young girl dealing with bouncing back from a suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalization in a mental facility following her mother’s #death, her author dad shacking up with his now ex-wife’s nurse and the feelings of rejection projected onto her by her older sister. Also the Mom’s former nurse is very attractive. And no trucks come to life at any point in this movie, unlike yesterday when it happened a lot. Can you believe it’s the 2nd to last day of the month? We can’t either, so sit back and listen while we invite you to listen to our recap of “The Uninvited.”
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
A Stephen King story makes another appearance on our month of podcasts, and it’s another re-make. Matt, who picked it, didn’t realize at the time that he was picking a more modern, less fun, more Canadien (and made for television) version of the schlock classic “Maximum Overdrive” but he did. And it’s called “Trucks.” We won’t spoil what it’s about, so be sure to tune in and listen as the month of October grinds to a close.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Yael and Matt spend the majority of this episode discussing their very different upbringings in acquiring movies in the time before streaming and it may be the most enjoyable episode yet. Yes, they could have discussed a bullied sick child being mentally and physically tormented the whole time but it’s sometimes better to delve into the land of VHS tapes and small kiosks outside to find a movie to plan your weekend around. Today they watch an MTV film made for Netflix called “Eli” as they near the finish line of daily horror films to podcast about. Only a couple more days left, so stick around
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
We get in our time traveling motorcycle side car and head back to #1980 to dig deep (well...shoulder deep) into a reluctant cult classic about #kidnapping, #cannibalism, small town values, open relationships, jealousy, smoking meet and large age gap romance. You don’t have to wait to see if we tipped the maid or wrote something nice in their ledger to find out how we feel about our stay in “Motel Hell” because you can just listen to today’s episode.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
With just under a week left until Halloween will this daily horror #podcast sink or swim? Or be eaten by a metaphorical shark off the coast of Australia? Is what they watched a #horror movie? Is it a salute to a traumatic event, is arguing on a podcast about each of these things both horrific and traumatic? Who will Shelly the podcast dog/couch #shark attack this episode? All these answers and more while Yael and Matt recap “The Reef.”
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
American consumerism, the five second rule, sassy former F.B.I. agents and shadowy ice cream executives. Are these the ingredients to a fun 80’s satire about a food stuff phenomenon that is destroying small town America? Will Yael give it credit for it’s absurdity or just rock out to the catchy jingle of the horrifying white globs of alien terror that is 1985’s “The Stuff”?
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Another day, another #anthology movie (and back to back movies that feature cassette tapes) this time we have a fun morning #recap where we drink coffee and talk about a fun collaboration of horror legends like John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Sam Raimi, Wes Craven and...Tom Arnold? Well, close enough! So if you’re a balding minor league baseball player who works in a gas station, this is the movie for you.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
What if The Walking Dead’s “Negan” traded in his barbed wire baseball bat for an invisible basketball? How hasn’t Kyra Sedgwick aged since 1992? Are there deals at a Jewish yard sale? What’s more worthy of a father’s attention-dancing abilities or shooting moths out of your mouth? Some of these questions are answered on today’s Halloween movie podcast where we watch “The Possession.”
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
A mid 2000’s #horror movie? An #Oscar winning #actress (for something else), cheap real estate? A PG-13 rating? This movie has all three of those things and a little bit more of some other stuff. We watched “The House At The End Of The Street” from our apartment at the end of a parking lot as we continue our march towards 31 horror movies in 31 days continues.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
A second consecutive day of back to back #anthology #horror, this too has an international twist to it, but it comes by way of Jolly Old England. It also features two generations of horror legends, Vincent Price and Donald Pleasance. It’s also a little more light hearted and silly and features the lowest costume budget of any of the movies we’ve seen so far and some pretty stellar 80’s new wave providing the soundtrack to the interludes. So join Matt and Yael as they talk whistling, brutal pigeon death, bullying, wacky dads, Ghoul cops and grave snacking with 1971’s “Monster Club.”
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Our first #anthology of the month is an international affair as the nations of China, South Korea and Japan band together to dazzle us with their art, while disturbing our soles. A #Dumpling Fountain Of Youth, pulling back the curtain of “nice people” in the entertainment industry and trying to think outside the box when it comes to avant garde theater with child performers. It’s a rocky ride, but worth the trip to experience some forms of #horror content that don’t normally get tapped into in this way.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Yael and Matt recap a mini series? A MINI-mini series? Or a British TV movie? Is it all of the above? Yes, kind of. Either way it’s a long night of admiring Pierce Brosnan’s handsomeness and unwillingness to do an American accent in 2011’s A&E adaptation of the Stephen King novel “Bag of Bones.” It’s a small town story of a big time novelist haunted by helpful and spiteful ghosts, a town cursed by drownings and a haunted tree. Stay up late with us and check out our newest daily #horror movie podcast as we march toward #Halloween.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
We journey back into the rich realm of #Korean #Horror films with a modern take on a classic ghost story with “The Mimic” and learn about the importance of parents taking care of their parents and random dirty kids they find in the woods. They journey into hidden caves, get bummed out about dogs and try to make analogies about Tony Hawk video games. It’s the latest horror recap in a day of 31 consecutive podcasts to celebrate #Halloween.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
After a rough go of it on the “found footage” front with (one of the movies called) “I See You” Yael and Matt recap one of their favorite movies of the month so far. Comedian and comic book creator Tim Vargulish (GoatMan and President Werewolf) recommended this Korean import and it did not disappoint. A group of film makers go to discover an abandoned mental hospital and open a famously closed door, and things go all sorts of wrong. They also go wrong in the middle of the recording when podcast mascot/saboteur Shelly the Puppy gets violently ill in the middle of it. So tune in to the episode and wish a speedy recovery to our little labrador as we continue our streak of daily podcasts.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
It's a special double feature episode because we watched a 2019 movie called "I See You" that was a real piece of dog shit found #footage mentally unstable blogger movie that was 80 minutes that felt like the length of the Godfather Trilogy. Afterwards Yael revealed that she meant to pick a DIFFERENT 2019 movie called "I See You" and it was a lot better. So this episode will be equal parts complaining and singing praises (with no actual singing) and the usual hijinx. We're near the mid point of October and kicking it into a higher gear for the home stretch. Catch the links for daily #horror movie podcasts!
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Have you ever been to a dinner party and resented someone for being a condescending “know it all”? How about one who is in constant contact with a dead ten year old through a #Ouija board (that he corrects your pronunciation of)? Well that’s how this adventure begins in this hidden gem of an 80’s #horror movie starring hard rock video vixen and assaulter of Major League Baseball players, Tawney Kitaen. It’s got a title and a cover that are deceiving, so tune in to see what we thought of “Witch Board.”
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
In celebration of completing our 2nd week of 31 #horror movie recaps in 31 days we conjure up the 2nd spinoff from The Conjuring, “Annabelle.” Does it live up to the hype? Should we collect dolls? Are kill cults that aren’t religious that much different than ones that are? Did Matt even watch the movie? All these questions and more are answered on the latest Yael and Matt Recap #Halloween.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Do you get stressed out seeing movie trucks? Even more so, seeing them during a pandemic? We do too. But it’s not bad as people who move to #Hollywood with only a cat and a sleeping bag and hope to make it as a costume designer. It’s even worse when the apartment community you find has plans for you. We recap “1BR” talk about death from natural causes, horror show apartment memories from our past and more! It’s day 13 of our 30 Days of #Horror movies as we march toward Halloween, so download the latest episode and allow us to buzz you into our podcast community.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
2019 #Florida is a #scary enough place for a film to qualify as a #horror movie, but throw in a massive #hurricane, giant #alligators, daddy issues and the possibility of drowning and you have last year’s “Crawl.” Is it a horror movie just because heads get bitten off? Is going under water without holding your nose scary? Will this podcast be interrupted by a puppy doing an alligator impression? Listen it and find out!
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
An American journeys across the pond to 1960’s England (we think) for a hookup and meets her bizarre family (and silent butler) and begins to encounter a series of bizarre occurrences in this Boris Karloff starring H.P. Lovecraft adaptation. It was one of the shortest films that we watched but felt just as long as the others because of 60’s film pacing on our millennial/Gen-X brains.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Do you need to a movie to watch while your parents are out on the town and a sexy adult woman is taking care of you before giving you a shot of booze before bed? Well this is the movie for you, I guess. It’s bright, bubbly and gory and the votes are split between your two hosts about whether they liked it. Tune in to hear a heated debate!
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Do you know your neighbors? Probably not, but if you claim to-do you REALLY know them? Matt and Yael watch Fright Night and reminisce about the good old days of 80’s horror, vampire hunting, neighborhood watches and low level local celebrity. Check out the podcast as we knock out a horror movie podcast discussion every day throughout October!
Train rides are long. Movies about train rides feel even longer, especially when they force character development into disaster movie archetypes of people being hunted by zombie commuters throughout Korea. Did we learn about culture? Parenting? Being polite to strangers? Listen for yourself as we break down “Train to Busan” in today’s recap. Plus a special #monster guest!
A movie about a voodo possesses doll? Not quite. A re-boot about a safety protocol depleted A.I. doll made by a disgruntled worker. DING! DING! DING! In our second of back to back re-makes we watch the reimagined Child’s Play movie and enjoy a modernized story of a kid with no friends except a second hand murderous toy and some friends who only like him because of it. But are they “friends ‘til the end?” Listen in and find out!
Stephen King movies ruled the TV and movie screens in the 80’s and the remakes of them have showed up a lot in the 2000’s. Matt and Yael dig into (or should we say “up”?) Pet Sematary. How does it hold up? Will they guess correctly the animals that die? Is Stephen King in it? Does anyone get the accents right? Listen to today’s podcast and find out!
From ancient #Persia to modern day America an evil #genie type God to be grants your #wishes in #evil ways while also using the word “wish” in very cheesey ways. It’s a fun, horror movie made by a special effects master Robert Kurtzman under the watchful (wishful) eye of Wes Craven. We WISH you listen and subscribe!
Two #comedians podcasting about a #horror movie a day, one Japanese dreamy gore fest about three girls dealing with crazy circumstances (including one of the most insane opening two minutes either of us have ever seen)...one new episode of Yael and Matt Recap Stuff trying to make sense of it all. Listen in as we try and dissect “Tag.”
With the weather still nice, and the weekend starting up, it’s time to pack the bags and head up to THE CABIN IN THE WOODS featuring new vocabulary words, a handsome young man before he became a God of Thunder, #zombies, #horror movie tropes turned on their head, an expensive bong and a Mer-Man, Yael and Matt have fun recapping a wild new(ish) horror movie classic.
Can a decent horror movie spin off from a minute of footage in a great horror movie? Does The Vatican operate like the F.B.I.? Can a horny French Canadian man convince a soon to be Nun to change her mind? All these questions are asked and some of them may be answered as comedians Yael Gavish and Matt Kona begin the first installment of a 31 day podcast marathon of horror movies all October long with “Yael and Matt Recap Halloween”
Every week comedian Yael Gavish talks with a comedian that has at some point been asked “Where Are You REALLY From?” Whether it's due to an accent, skin color, the outfit they are wearing or various other factors. Each conversation explores personal stories about travels, family life, cultural experiences and funny stories that have happened along the way.
Today I'm back in Boston, I've had a great time talking with the very funny local comedian Jimmy Zhang. Jimmy is made in China, as he described himself, he moved to the US as a kid, 5 years after his parents. Now located in Boston he makes the locals laugh in English (and maybe one day in Chinese...).

50th episode special! It's Matt Kona! He's been doing comedy since 2009 and is also my husband, so this is the last one on one interview for a while due to the obvious pandemic, that you may be familiar with. Matt has not really been asked "Where are you REALLY From?" before but he has travelled around to multiple European countries just before and immediately after starting his comedy career. So listen as we debate what it truly means to "travel" and eventually he tells stories of being a roadie for punk bands, driving and sleeping in vans, many of which I have never heard. Give him a follow on various social media accounts- @MattKona

With razor sharp wit and a charm once described as “ineffable,” Tooky (rhymes with cookie) Kavanagh speaks her mind with honesty, charisma, and edge. After just a few years on the scene, Tooky has already performed in New York, Denver, CO, and all over New England.

This week I talked with Izzy Da Rosa, a Boston-based comedian who has performed at venues all across town. The month is at an end and our eyes are #popping out of our heads from watching 31 #horror movies in 31 days so it’s only appropriate to watch a 3-D movie. #Friday the 13th 3-D is the blue and red cherry on top of our #Halloween #recap sundae. So listen and enjoy and also get ready to enjoy “Funny and Die” a horror movie Yael managed to write, direct and act in during this crazy month of #blood, #guts and going nuts.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
New York City is a beautiful and #scary place for a young couple trying to make their way in the world. When a struggling #actor and his wife #Rosemary move into the apartment of a recently deceased tenant and meet their overly friendly next door neighbors a slow burn of odd things occur as they begin to plan to have a family. Good luck charms are needed for this recap, but if they smell a little funny then your luck may be running out. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Yael’s penchant for picking #Asian #horror movies finally reaches #Thailand and the result couldn’t be #scarier! 2004’s “Shutter” becomes an instant classic in a month of recaps. It develops like a strange #photograph and like a #photo you take that comes out better than you intended it to, you just want to show it off to your friends. So watch this film (it’s on #Netflix) and then tune into the recap and see how things #develop! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
Today in our #circus of #Halloween, one of our both favorites of the month! KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE! We just hope this circus won't stop at our neighborhood... Yael Gavish, Matt Kona and many Killer #Klowns (from outer space...)
When four #friends decided to take a shortcut In the #woods of #Sweden they didn't think there are more things living in there. and no, it's not a bear. We are not planning any #Scandinavian #camping soon... Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
It’s a 70’s #monster movie set in the early 1900’s that begins with a #suicide #prank and ends with a real suicide and in between a bunch of mostly #boring stuff happens. Matt Kona picked it and Yael Gavish won’t let him live it down!
G’day #recap listeners! Yael Gavish and Matt Kona went down under and (to the year of) back to the future to find an #Australian #ghost story set in a nursing home called “Next of Kin” and boy do they have a long list of weird things that happen in this movie.
Yael and Matt are joined by Lauren Cahillane to #recap Stephen King’s first work of #horror written specifically for the #screen. It’s got #vampires, #incest, Shelley from Twin Peaks, small town #sheriffs and a deputized attack #cat. It’s time to talk about #Sleepwalkers. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
1-2 A #Nightmare on #Elm Street #Recap is coming for you. 3-4 better not #snore 5-6 this was one of Yael’s picks 7-8 we watched AND podcasted really late 9-10 Matt enjoyed watching it again.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
A modern take on the #classic 1940’s monster movie tale, and the biggest body count yet. It also features some of the best acting in a movie we’ve seen so far by featuring two #Oscar winners dressed up like #werewolves tearing #throats and taking names. No wheelchairs in this one, just lots of #blood, #gore, fur flying and #gypsy home remedies! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
American #teenage #pranksters as seen by British film makers. Don’t hang up, and don’t dial 999 as this story of a prank’s consequences gets the revenge movie treatment. We are joined by another special #guest David Quiroga Gomez (@David.Quirogago) who when not recapping movies also teaches #Zumba. So tune in to see what our hang ups about this movie are!
Stephen King adapts himself in this tale of a #werewolf on the loose in a small #Oklahoma (but really Maine, probably) town as a souped up #wheelchair bound teenage heartthrob, his narrator sister and their drunk uncle Gary Busey try to save everyone. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona

It’s been 16 days since we did an #anthology #horror #film and we had to fly across the pond to visit THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD. Spoiler: No blood #actually drips from the house but there’s enough #blood rushing (and circulation being cut off) in these four films to satisfy horror fans. So break out your tea and crumpets, tie your neckerchief real tight and listen to the latest Yael and Matt Recap!
If you have a #grudge against the #ring, this is not the movie for you. But if you like action, curses and sassy blind children then #Sadako vs #Kayako is your #horror franchise crossover dream matchup! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona (& Sadako & Kayako...)
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona (& Josef & Aaron)
It's 1986 and working #retail can be tough. Kids are stealing LPs under their tight T-shirts and the only way to bring order back to a #mall called "Park Plaza 2000" is to employ three security #robots. Their first day happens to be the night of a #bodacious make out party in the mall's furniture store and when lightning strikes, sparks fly. Both literally and figuratively. Yael Gavish and Matt Kona are here to revel in the 80's cheesiness and to ensure you that listening to this podcast will cause you to 'have a nice day.'
It’s a #rainy day in #Halloween recapland as Yael Gavish and Matt Kona venture to #Japan to witness unemployment, a bizarre custody battle, shoddy real estate and apartment maintenance and oh yeah a #creepy ghost child! It’s Dark Waters that Yael is splashing around in as Matt drowns in a sea of impatience.
Week two of #recapping #horror #movies every day is really going down the #tube. That is #London public #transportation being #terrorized by a #mysterious man #kidnapping people and brining them to a dingy lair as a young couple and some #drunken cops try to figure out what’s going on.
Yael Gavish & Matt Kona
De #Lift is a #Dutch word for ‘the elevator’ in a strange tall building with restaurants, real estate, dancing janitors and glowing blue goo that causes an elevator to become #murderous. This film is dubbed, so no reading was involved. The first 7 days of recaps had their ups and downs, but this #elevator #horror #movie is all ups!
Blow Out is not just a term to describe John Travolta’s haircut in his previous movies, but the inciting incident to Brian DePalma’s #Hitchcockian #murder story about a B-movie sound guy in the middle of a government cover up. Is it a horror movie? Hear Yael and Matt argue about it!
Two #Haunted Houses, a haunted father/son duo and lots of old times #ghosts are bopping around in between seances in this #killer #ghost story from the makers of The #Conjuring.
Going back to The 1950’s was popular in the 80’s but there’s no Deloreans in this 1989 Suburban #nightmare. Matt is enamored with the directing style and Yael is bored as a quiet #child sent to bed with no dinner by the pace, but they can both agree to argue over #Parents calling their son “sport(s)” and they debate if the movie should even count as #horror. So fix up a sandwich and hit play as Matt and Yael recap the 1989 Randy Quaid film “Parents.”
Matt relies on his punk band touring “expertise” and Yael finds X-Men and hipsters in a nazi music venue as they tackle the 2015 thriller “Green Room” Is it a horror movie? An action film? Is everything green? One way to find out is to listen to today’s episode!
DAY 3! “Schools out...forever.” It’s an Alice Cooper lyric from the 70’s and the central theme of today’s recap of “The House on Sorority Row” where we meet the ladies of Phi Beta who just want to have an end of season party and it just doesn’t work out. But Yael and Matt have a party recapping it, so no you can too!
In this Stephen King #adaptation about a husband killing a wife, one half of this husband wife #recapping duo likes it, and one does not! Guess which one! This is a period piece about pre #depression farmers with very thick #accents and lots of rats, so get ready for that y’all!
To begin the first official entry into the month long #Horror movie #recap binge Yael and Matt take on 1975’s Trilogy of Terror. It’s a made for TV anthology movie written by Twilight Zone and Outer Limits scribe Richard Matheson and starring Linda Black in all three. Yael and Matt are sleep deprived and not because the film stopped them from sleeping. So listen in as they talk hot teachers, Henry Warnimont and Zuni Fetish Dolls!

Alyssa Al-Dookhi is an Arab American comedian, writer and game show host living in Philadelphia. Alyssa grew up in Kuwait and attended college in Michigan. However, it is in the city of Brotherly Love that Alyssa found comedy, honed her sharp wit and cultivated her laid back, stoner style. She produces and hosts the popular Good Good Comedy game shows “Eat Your Beats!” and “Make Up Or Break Up.” She performed at the 2018 HBO Women in Comedy Festival.
Fareeha Khan is a comedian, writer, actor, and artist based in NYC. She has written for MTV Decoded and Reductress, and she was part of the Riot x TBS Comedy Writers Lab last year. In it, she plays a teenage boy named Ronnie, which she got the "Best Actress" award for at Quickie Fest IV because I guess she's good at playing a teenage boy. She hails from Pakistan and also somehow Virginia.

My guest today is Cathy Boyd!!!
The stand-up bug bit Cathy late in life but some might say that gives her an edge. After completing the writing course at Second City, Cathy tagged along with a friend to try her hand at stand-up comedy and the rest as they say, is history. She quickly made a name for herself in and around Toronto, London and Ottawa, Ontario, Montreal, Quebec and Saint John, New Brunswick. She found herself headlining at the Maine Comedy Festival in September of 2017 and performed at the Portland, Maine Comedy Festival in July, 2018. Cathy was 1 of 5 finalists in the 4th Annual Absolute Comedy Prove You’re a Comic Competition. She is also the producer of C’est La Vie, a monthly comedy show here in Toronto and can be heard on Sirius XM Radio, Canada Laughs at Alt Dot Comedy. Cathy was invited to appear at The Best of Absolute Comedy in September, 2018, as part of Toronto’s annual comedy festival, JFL42 and showcased for the 2019 Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Cathy started 2019 off by competing and finishing in first place in the Comedian of the North Competition held annually in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Currently, she is an Absolute Comedy roster member and a contributing writer for Femke Magazine. When not performing stand-up, Cathy would like you to know she is a mediocre tennis player and the loving mother of four, who readily admits, three would have been good. She’d have been good with three.
