Never wait for someone to give you permission to speak up or take your place.
Just like my name, I hope that this podcast can be one of a kind. An avenue for intentional and deliberate conversations touching on topics ranging from critical reflections of my favorite tv shows to my thoughts on societal trends and issues. By igniting a spark in your hearts and minds, I would like to use this platform to encourage you to find your voice and create your space, regardless of where you find yourself,
The idea of being vulnerable is something I run away from every chance I get. This is becoming an issue as I find myself constantly confronted by situations that trigger me to confront this fear of vulnerability as well as many other things. On this week's episode, by sharing some lessons I have picked up in the past few weeks, I take a scary step towards embracing my vulnerable self.
I introduced two new segments this week. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording.
Tell a friend to tell a friend! Don’t forget to like and follow on whatever platform you are listening to it on. For all the people who have been listening, thank you for riding with me, and for those who are new, welcome to the fam. I appreciate you more than you know.
What does it look like to have a relaxed and flexible relationship with food? One that is not weighed down by the pressures of society or the unreachable expectations of beauty that we place on ourselves as a result of as said society. On this week's episode, as I reflect on my evolving relationship with food, I discuss 5 takeaways from a recent training.
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording. ✨
What is your own relationship with food? I would love to hear from you.
Tell a friend to tell a friend! Don’t forget to like and follow on whatever platform you are listening to it on. For all the people who have been listening, thank you for riding with me, and for those who are new, welcome to the fam. I appreciate you more than you know.
Happy New Year beautiful people,
It has been a while! 6 months, I honestly don’t know where the time went. But A LOT has happened. We are living in “unprecedented” times as they say. It has been crazy, to say the least, but we made it, so cheers to you.
This week's episode is a somewhat 2nd chapter to my open letter to my dad. In it, I share with him the 5 of the current themes in my life. Today would have been my dad’s 54th birthday so Happy Birthday Zakilo, I miss you more than words could ever explain.
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording.
I honestly forgot how much I love recording, so thank you for giving me the opportunity to come back. Every time I thought of just letting this go, I would randomly stumble on my sound cloud page and saw that you were still listening. So thank you for the gift that is our little corner of the inter-webs.
Don’t forget to like and follow. For all the people who have been listening, thank you for riding with me, and for those who are new, welcome to the fam. I appreciate you more than you know.

Hello stranger… 👀
How’s it going?
I know I know… it’s been a minute…
"Few people started their lives with fully-fledged black identities, or even with the acute race-consciousness that they later develop" - Amina Mama, Beyond the Masks
This week’s episode is titled, When did I become black? as an acknowledgement of my new found black identity. The reality of my recent experiences is the realization that as a black woman existing in a predominantly white space, I am seen first and foremost by the color of my skin.
This weeks episode speaks directly to why I started this podcast, creating a safe space to find my own voice.. It serves as a form of validation to the experiences I have had in the journey of discovering my blackness.
Head over to the link in bio.. I promise you won't regret it! 😉
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording for you beautiful folks…

“It’s hard being strong but it is okay not to be strong” - SGIT
This weeks episode serves an open acknowledgement of my thoughts and emotions. An open promise to myself, giving myself permission to step out of the weight of the performance in all areas of my life.
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed recording for you beautiful folks…
I have a couple questions for you this week so make sure you listen till the end…

On this weeks episode, with the help of my guest Lara, we tackle Emotional Intelligence and its manifestations in a variety of contexts. In the spirit of being completely transparent, I was very hesitant about this topic. I think deep down I knew why ,but I did not want to admit it to myself. I was almost 100% sure that I was lacking in the department of emotional intelligence and we all aspire to be “intelligent,” whatever that may mean, so this revelation was a blow. But shoutout to Lara for prompting me to discuss this. It was definitely an experience.
I have a couple questions for you this week. I want to hear from you, please don't leave me hangin wink

As a society, there is this aversion from “making things about race.” You have people who say it doesn’t always have to be about race. As one of my profs and mentors told me recently “when is it NOT about race.”
On this week’s episode I discuss a topic a bit different from the ones I have done in the past. The episode is titled Black “Friends.” You are going to have to listen to find out why. The episode is important to me because it speaks a lot to my evolving identity and critical lens. Let me know what you think.
I have a couple questions for you this week, related to the topic and a couple that are inspired by a bible plan I recently read. I want to hear from you, please don't leave me hangin wink

Whenever I am asked if I have any hobbies, I always say, "....I have a podcast actually..." and this always leads to the question "about what?" To which I reply "..anything I am thinking of that week..." What is interesting is, thinking back to the "why," why I started the podcast I don't actually remember. But in December 2017, while home for Christmas after 2 years and moving to a new country, I felt compelled to start something. At the time, I thought that "thing" would be a blog but fast forward to a conversation with a friend of mine, who stated that she believed a podcast would be better as I like to talk (haha) and "this is ours" was born.
I was scared! I was so scared that nobody would listen. I mean who wants to hear my voice? I would have and in some ways still don't see myself as a "creative," it just wasn't my thing. I am better now in embracing this new part of my identity. But by his grace, here we are!
On this week's episode I discuss my theme for 2020 which is "Follow your spirit." And in it, I discuss 5 thoughts for this year: gratitude, intentionality, faith, peace and self. The reason why I tell you the sparknotes version of the inception story of this podcast is because I believe that compelling feeling I felt that December was the Holy Spirit guiding me to this podcast. Through this podcast I have discovered a side of myself that I never could have imagined. So here is to a new year, of an intentional pursuit of my faith, remaining grateful for all blessings and resting in the peace of my ever evolving self.
I have a couple questions for you this week. Let me know what you think. I want to hear from you, please don't leave me hangin wink

Hello….. I am here again….
🗣🗣 Update: I am now 23! The Jordan Year!
On this weeks episode, I am going to engage in the corny trend of discussing 23 things. Due to my love of television a lot of these points are lines from tv shows.
Wondering why the title? Why don’t you listen to find out! It was inspired by an episode of blue bloods.
I hope you enjoy listening, as much as I enjoyed recording. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe. Remember! this podcast is also available on Apple podcasts and Spotify.

It's been a while... After a very long but quick summer I needed like a month to recuperate. But then after a week of nothing, I was ready to be busy again. I am kind of weird that way. 🤷🏾🤷🏾
On this week's episode I discuss what self love means to me and my journey to accepting who I am while continuing to love my former self. If you want to find out why the title, you should probably listen.
P.S I would LOVE to hear from you. Just a slight reminder!

Lately, more than normal, I have been imagining what it would be like to call my dad up and just fill him in on my life. This week’s topic is titled Dear Zakilo. In it, I tell my dad the 5 re-occuring themes in my life at the moment.
For me, this episode was almost liberating. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed recording. Let me know what you think. Where there any themes that you see occurring in your lives? I love to hear from you, so please message me, comment, etc.

“You do the best you can with what you have and end up where you were supposed to be.” This weeks episode was just an excuse for me to rant on where I am at. I have been going through a lot of transitions in the past 10 months or like my friend Timi called it “growing pains.”
I am forever grateful for the opportunity to do this, and have people actually listen and care about what I have to say so thank you!.
My only question/thought for you this week is: Is there anyone listening to this that can relate to these feelings? If so, please hit me up and let me know!
As usual, I hope you enjoy listening, as much as I enjoyed recording. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe.

🗣🗣 New episode alert: a discussion on rape culture in Nigeria.
So I had a completely different topic planned for this week. However, while using instagram on my study breakI stumbled upon Busola Dakolo’s story. Ofcourse that sent me on into a rabbit hole which left me dumbfounded and very angry to be honest. So hence the topic change.
Wondering why the title? Why don’t you listen to find out!

🗣🗣 New episode alert: So I am in my 20’s, is it time to marry? 🤷🏾🤷🏾
I have titled this week’s episode: here comes the bride. On it I discuss something that has been pressing on my mind over the past few weeks - Marriage. Or I guess more so the idea of marriage, rather than the act itself. I am from a culture that measures a woman’s success by her marital status and her ability to procreate. Now, in this day and age, we have seen the rise of the independent woman (this is where I ask you if you have listened to episode 1 yet? 🙅🏾). Women have put marriage and children on the back burner while they pursue their dreams. But with family pressures, instagram handles and wedding invitations. The question becomes how does a woman combat societal and internal pressures. What does this rise mean for the measurement of a woman’s success in society?
I hope you enjoy listening, as much as I enjoyed recording. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe. Remember! this podcast is also available on Apple podcasts and Spotify.

🗣🗣 New episode alert: FINALLY! I know this is late.. I know.. I know… BUT life! Editing is not fun! haha
On this week’s episode with help from my beautiful guests, we tackle the idea of conversing with your inner child; specifically our 13 year old selfs. As I continue on this journey of “adulthood,” slowly becoming the woman I believe I destined to be, I am constantly confronted with my past: decisions made, paths chosen, etc. I chose this topic, because I believe as we reflect on our pasts in preparation for the future, we must continue to be kind to our inner child, who is the ultimately the foundation for who we become. :)
P.S We changed venues for this episode, it was recorded on my bedroom floor with my phone. Mostly because the studio is far lol, but also I guess we were trying to keep it chill and personal :)
I hope you enjoy listening, as much as I enjoyed recording. And again special thanks to Amman and Irene for taking this journey with me. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe. Remember! this podcast is also available on Apple podcasts and Spotify.

🗣🗣 New episode alert: On this week’s episode I talk about the beauty of the shift. What shift? Why don’t you listen and find out.
In the spirit of complete transparency. I was feeling kind of (very) insecure and vulnerable after recording. And I really do not like feeling vulnerable lol. I think it is because I wasn’t using my notes as a crutch, I kind of just went wild lol. Thank God for friends who give you good feedback in the middle of the night.
On the plus side, I am finally getting comfortable in the studio! happy dance
All in all, I am so grateful for the scary and fulfilling journey that I am currently on, finding my voice and my purpose.
