Laughter is the best medicine in order to remain grounded and humble. There's a lot going on in this crazy world. This podcast aims to bring light and Native American humor to some of the issues going across the lands. Weekly, Join Boots Pond (Real name) who comes from the Umatilla Indian Reservation to talk about matters across the world that effect a tiny reservation in Northeast Oregon. From time to time a cousin, a distant relative, and even Alexa who's the Fiancé to Boots will pop in to chat about what's going on. In order to better ourselves we need to look back at the past to help our future. Remember where you came from, it will help you on your path.
A lot can happen in two weeks. I Was away in Michigan visiting the famz over there. Now back to the podcast grind. The FBI recently finished an operation regarding human trafficking. They rescued around 200 victims. Which is a small dent against that illegal activity that no one pays much mind to. The FBI has been getting a bad rep as of late, but they shouldn't for these efforts. In California there has been mandates for middle and high school students to go to school later. They get to sleep in more, instead of dozing off in 1st period. Hopefully the move can extend to elementary students later. Rest is important, especially at that age! The last story I'm covering for the episode deals with leaders of the Academy awards issuing an apology to Sacheen Littlefeather almost 50 years after her infamous acceptance speech at the 1973 Academy awards. There was a lot of controversy with Littlefeather being at the awards show in place of actor Marlon Brando. Now 50 years later she gets sympathy, does it seem a little late? Welcome all, hopefully you aren't slapping yourselves. For this week's news I look across the ocean first. China has done a lot of missile tests extremely close to Taiwan. That line is close to being stepped on. This is all in response for Taiwan hosting the US Speaker of the House after warning the US not to touch down onto Taiwan. Now a bunch of ''tests'' are being done as well as a of bunch adult Chinese men slapping themselves as self-punishment for letting a US rep be in Taiwan. Over in Atlanta a music festival shuts down after guns are ruled to be allowed at the festival site. Safety first, especially when people/fans can be unpredictable. I also look at briefly on some other stories revolving around the recent mega million's winner, the monkeypox, and the verdict for Brittney Griner's case in Russia. Finally, I look at another towns potential water shortage over in New Mexico and who they are going to combat that. Listen in and leave with some positive vibes!

I shouldn't have called out the heat, because the heatwave has made its way to Eastern Oregon. In this week's episode I will look at a story in Israel where two men were sucked into a sinkhole while partying in a swimming pool. Apparently, the owners of the pool didn't even have a permit to build there. In other worldwide news, it's been estimated that there are more tigers out in the wild than perceived. Now they aren't in the clear yet, but at least the tiger population is making progress. Finally, I will look at a story focusing on a bunch of different people trying to start a movement to not have lawns having only grass on it. Having a diverse lawn cuts down on water and uses of pesticides. They might be onto something when it comes to a potential water problem that might surface in the near future. Stay Hydrated! In this week's episode Boots will look at what's going down in many places in Europe as they go through an unwelcoming heatwave. Last year it was the Pacific Northwest that got hit hard with the heat, now it travels across the globe to make its presence there. Monarch Butterflies have recently made the endangered list, which is a shame to see. On the opposite side Toys R Us are making a comeback and have gotten out of the extinction list. Finally, I will look at an idol for Indian Country who finally got his dues. Jim Thorpe who is in the discussions for the greatest athlete ever has been reinstated by the International Olympic committee to be the victor of the 2 events at the 1912 Olympics. It's kind of different to record in a hotel room. I'm over in Oregon City for a business trip, but I still have some stories to react to. Over in space, there's new pictures being showcased from the James Webb telescope that shows how vast space really is. There's no way the human race can be alone with the idea of so many other galaxies out there. In British Columbia, a committee for the Kamloops powwow is under fire for their regulations on blood quantum and sexual orientation to participate in some events. It's a renowned long running powwow in Canada that's on the verge of being boycotted hard. Then finally i will look at a story focusing on a man from Prineville who is making a trek from Independence, Missouri all the way to Oregon City, Oregon. All he has is some supplies in an Oregon trail like wagon and a stuffed ox. The funny thing is, I seen the guy on the rez just a few days prior to recording. Now we are definitely halfway through the year. For this week's episode, over in Russia WNBA player Brittney Griner pleaded guilty for her drug charges. On the surface it doesn't seem that bad, but the situation is shaping up to be very political to get Griner back into the states. All she had was a vape and now is facing harsh consequences cause a good number of countries including Russia are strict with drugs. Also over in Japan, the author of the popular Manga series 'Yu-Gi-Oh' was found dead after an apparent scuba diving accident. It doesn't matter the level of experience you have, being underwater for a time is a risk. Finally, the last story will cover a teenage hero over in Mississippi and how he saved 3 girls and a police officer from drowning. It takes a lot of courage and adrenaline to take actions like that. When others are on the verge of drowning, fear tends to kick in, but this Mississippi teen persevered. Listen in and leave with some positive vibes!

Summer has finally reached Eastern Oregon! For this week's episode Boots will touch on a story surrounding one of his favorite hobbies of watching the NBA. The NBA free agency will be in full motion and right before that a player due for a big contract ended up beating his significant other. It's kind of wild how fast TMZ of all places can report on something. In the R&B world, R. Kelly was finally convicted to over 25 years in confinement. The dude has put out a lot of good music in his career but was definitely one the shadiest people to still walk free up to this point. Finally, I will go over a story from Germany about an 8-year-old boy who survived 8 days in a sewer before he was finally found. Luck was surely on this kid's side to ensure that the sewer wasn't going to be the kid's tomb. Listen in and leave with some positive vibes! The start of summer is already here! Just returned from a vacation. So, apologies for not having an episode out these past few weeks. Again, grateful for those who stuck out through the concept changes and the way this podcast is being handled. Going to go through this episode with no edits. For this week's episode I looked at 2 of the more uplifting stories I could find on the web. First up north, the Canadian government is taking steps to get rid of plastic bags and plastic straws. Getting a drink at Starbucks can really add up to take effects on the environment for sure. Hopefully, others follow suit. The second story focuses on our older population who currently or are going to live alone. Loneliness can take a toll on your psyche. The state of New York is resorting to robots to help with the growing conflict that many of our elder's face. It's funny and weird to think about, but the solution of having a robot companion isn't as crazy as you think. Listen in and leave with positive vibes! I'm going to leave this one unedited because ultimately, I want to speak from the heart. In this week's episode I'm going to keep it personal and local to Eastern Oregon. Back in 1855 there was a Treaty signed between the US government and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. The Treaty gave the tribes a bunch of rights and land for us to call home. This week was the time when that Treaty was signed, and a multitude of events happened. Just going to go through the timeline of what happened in the past week. Also, I will cover a story about Higher Education for Tribal Students in Oregon and how a grant will pay for almost everything for Tribal Students for about 1 year. There was a lot of sacrifice in order for us indigenous folk to be here today. We must do the same to help those generations ahead. After 167 years, we still remain. There's a bunch of flash floods and storms happening over here in Eastern Oregon, but we are surviving! In this week's episode Boots will go over another case of Natural selection. A young woman at Yellowstone got gored by Bison because she was way too close to it. Whether if it's taking a picture or trying to pet a wild animal. People will find a way to make examples out of themselves. Across the seas in France, a protestor disguised as a grandma was able to throw some cake on the glass protecting the Mona Lisa. All in the name of Climate change. Security was super quick to respond. The last story just deals with a woman who faced a moral dilemma in Southern California. The woman found over 36K in cash inside a couch she got for free from Craigslist. She ended up returning the cash, but in all honesty, it takes a lot to return that much money. Ha, I never actually considered myself to be Tribal Politics material even 5 years ago. Yet here I am working with a bunch of policies for the community. Doing this podcast definitely keeps my blood pressure down because there's a lot going on in this crazy crazy world. First off, a piece off my childhood passed away recently. Celebrity deaths don't usually get me, but actor Ray Liotta actually had a lot of influence on young rez kids in the Umatilla Tribe. ''Goodfellas'' is a staple for many Native Americans, and it sucks to see someone pass away relatively young. Over in Maine a part timer quits her clerk job. Which leads to the small town she worked for to shut down. Just another example of Cost of living. Finally, in South Carolina a deputy gets sentenced 18 years imprisonment for driving through flood waters with 2 prisoners in the back. The van gets stuck and flood waters rise which led to the deaths of the two detainees. All to save on time to use a shortcut. Pretty bleak stories I covered this week. Holy smokes we are almost approaching the start of summer already. Lots of good stories popped up for this week. A woman in Colorado finally won her court case after 8 years against a hospital that overcharged her hard. Luckily, she had a signed document for her surgeries to pay only $1,300 instead of $300,000. The court and health system like to stretch things out, don't they? I know I said wouldn't touch on many things concerning the coronavirus or the war in Ukraine. Still, there was a cool story about the journey of a 60-year-old man named Igor and his dog Zhu-Zhu over in War torn Ukraine. How they made it to safety and the amount of help they got from 'enemy' forces was something I had to touch on. Finally, I kind of wish I didn't look it up. I never knew what bear bile farms were before. 22 moon bears were rescued from those bile farms and the story I look at shows the cruelty of how people would use animals for a buck. Another year and another chance. Summer is creeping up for 2022. This week's stories I have come across detail a woman shopping at Goodwill and buying a two-thousand-year-old ancient Roman bust for the small price of 34.99. Will definitely keep my eyes peeled when looking at the next yard sale. Someone else's junk is always someone else's treasure. Also, the iPod has been discontinued after 20 years. You were a boujee native if you rocked iPod around the rez back then. I stayed loyal for the most part to my Sony Mp3 Walkman. Still, goes to show how fast time can bypass an era. Then finally over in the Las Vegas area bodies are popping up at Lake Mead because of amount of water is decreasing there. It's already May! Almost time for Boots to be officially one year older. There's no shortage of a bunch of wild, crazy, and random stories happening across the lands. Over in Boston a bunch of juveniles have no cares anymore and are starting to assault random people across the city. Police kind of have their hands tied since they can't detain anyone under the age of 14. In Alabama a public health worker was attacked and later died of injury from a pack of dogs. The Police there had no choice, but to use lethal force to prevent the pack from doing any more harm. Everyone at least heard of the man who got the beatdown of the year so far over in Hollywood for trying to tackle Comedian Dave Chappelle. Will touch on that a little bit. Finally, in Canada there are now rules/codes in the process of being set for current/future astronauts to not commit crimes like robbery or murder. First over in Baton Rouge area a young 4 year old girl died of Alcohol poisoning because her grandma forced her to drink a bottle of whiskey. A sad situation all around and comes to show many people aren't fit to be guardians. Another story I came across deals with a mass slaughter of chickens in Iowa because of a contagious flu making its way to many chicken farms. Drastic and questionable methods have to be used in order to reduce the spread. So now it costs more to make an omelet. Finally I look at more upbeat story centering around a cat who is going to be a Mayor of a town called Hell located in Michigan. There's a bunch of bleak news out there. Hopefully everyone is doing well for themselves in these times. For this week's episode I will look at a story and voice some thoughts about some 'influencers' taking vids of themselves riding a beached dolphin in Texas. The dolphin didn't make it and shows how far people won't consider the wildlife around them. Also, I will read into a story that is a harsh reality for many dads, uncles, older cousins everywhere. Over in Virginia a father was pepper sprayed for watching his children. Some people have egos that don't like being wrong, I guess. So, bring all the proof you can that you are there for the kids. Finally, I will look at the 'crackdown' on password sharing Netflix is going to attempt to help their numbers. As of right now it seems like it will backfire on them. It's still snowing in the middle of April over here in Eastern Oregon. Everyone's getting worked up from the truck drivers to the elementary students. Spring really hasn't sprung yet. For this week's episode Boots will look at some mischief happening over in the LA area with many of the gangs there setting up operations to rob the rich. When it comes to the streets, even the nice upper-class neighborhoods, don't be too flashy with what you wear. A little nearby in Santa Monica I will look at a story with some mail services being cancelled because the post mail folks is getting physically harassed. Which seems odd cause they are pretty harmless. The last story I will look at is from across the seas in Barcelona. They took some lessons from the vacant beaches during the Covid-Era and are banning smoking on any beach in the city limits. Thank goodness March madness is finally over. Now onto the next 3/4 of the year! In this week's episode I took a look at three stories. One of the stories comes from across the oceans at Cambridge University where notes from Charles Darwin were returned out of the blue after being reportedly stolen 22 years ago. Hopefully there's a lesson gathered to make copies of important documents/notes, especially with the technology available today. On the other side of the country in Virginia a few hundred acres gets returned back the Native American tribes to overlook the Fones Cliffs. It seems people are starting to recognize how tribes could be caregivers to the lands and can rehabilitate the ecosystem with our styles. Lastly, I look at an event that actually happened near myself. Our tribal afterschool program has recently teamed up with Amazon Web services to make a program that focuses on our younger students to take care of our first foods. It was an ambitious project that now gives a safe haven for much of the youth to expand their learning. I'm all for it and it now establishes a vision for the tribe's future. Been to many funerals this year. Working on podcasting and trying to polish up on this hobby is Definity getting me through 2022. In this episode Boots will be looking at few stories that has caught his eye such as the official retirement of Bruce Willis in film due to an illness. Been a fan and will truly miss his presence on the silver screen. Also Boots looks at a story from the upper peninsula of Michigan shutting down a road where Salamanders are migrating for mating season. A lot of them were getting flattened out, but now they seem to be in safe spot to cross the roads. In Salem, Oregon a young man seemingly under the influence drives into a homeless encampment and 4 lives are lost. Which shows the problem of the rising numbers of homelessness and the problem of where they are residing at. Finally, the last story details 42 students being reported missing near one of the bays at the Dead Sea. They are all okay, but still how do you lose 42 kids? Looking back at some of my scars. Diverging from the concept I have been going off of for most of 2022. I usually read and react to some news stories. From time to time though i will reflect back on what has gotten me to this point. Which was why the podcast was created in the first place. It's like a time capsule you bury in the backyard. In this episode I will look back in the early 2000s when the reservation around here had a major gang problem. Yeah, there was pretty bad gangs run by humans, but the gang i was most wary about as a child was the stray packs of dogs that were pretty frequent around the reservation area. Sometimes less is more! I am getting a little better with how to handle all the podcast recording, editing, and broadcasting. Trying to balance the podcast life and the tribal politic life. It helps with this new format of myself having my own opinion of some news stories that're happening across the lands. For this week Boots looks at a story with outlawing cat declawing in Maryland. If only more people knew how bad declawing is for kitties. Another story from Tokyo reduces the school codes that pertain to the color of your hair and the color of your underwear. Kind of ridiculous in a way for both of those restrictions to be set in the first place. Bad news for future Barbeques with Doritos taking out 5 chips per bag in order to save 50 million. My cousin Ray Ray didn't take lightly to that new story. Finally, Boots looks at an NBA players goal to build a hospital in his Native Congo area. Which is Definity admirable. Good day to all. The news is still dominated by the conflict over in the Ukraine area. Boots is currently on big business for his tribal politics work. So, straight from the hotel room Boots found some interesting stories to look at. The cost of living is getting to be too much. Having groceries, a full tank of gas, and paying rent does add up. A big chunk of people are now living paycheck to paycheck. Another story deals with some partly good news across the seas over in the Philippines . Now they raised the age of consent from 12 to 16. Its progress, but more is able to be done. Finally Boots looks at a story involving a man who had an implanted heart of a pig. He only lasted two months. There's always something happening. Never a dull moment, but we still need to thankful for what we have. Anything can change at a moments notice. Oregon is expected to have a very dry summer, so emergency preparedness needs to be done at this time. Also, the West coast states are lifting the mask mandate and the Umatilla tribe had lengthy discussions as a Sovreign nation to uplift as well. On a personal level Boots is devastated at the news of no Major League Baseball for the time being. Finally, of course the headlines are being dominated by the conflict in Ukraine. There's a lot of pandemonium going on now. Just trying to remain grounded with the madness happening in other lands. Cost of living is getting high. Even the local tribes are trying to figure out how to approach this issue. Surprisingly, a Childrens TV show 'Arthur' is coming to an end after 25 years. Even though I thought it ended its broadcast years ago and was going off re-runs. Boots also looks at a story about tribes near the Detroit, Michigan area getting heckled by cops trying to do ceremonies. All they are trying to do is make Maple Syrup! Kind of crazy. Finally, Boots looks at an article about a black bear causing a bunch break-ins near the Lake Tahoe area. The animal relatives are just getting too comfortable. What good day to be alive! Even after surviving Valentine's Day. For this week's episode Boots will look at a bleak story of indigenous Mexico tribes who are on the cusp of their languages going extinct. Boots relates this to some of the local Oregon tribes who have very few fluent speakers left alive today. Also, on the opposite end of extinction. Bald Eagles have been taken off the endangered list in Vermont. Which is a good sign for Freedom! Of course, in Florida almost 8 years ago a man was shot in a movie theatre for texting during the previews of a movie. For Boots it's easy to understand why this court case/ trial would take so long to come to fruition, especially when the one charged for the murder is a retired police captain. Finally, the Superbowl happened, and the halftime show was lit! Still, a good amount of people was quickly outraged at a performer taking a knee during the performance. The contrast of how fast outcries for kneeling can be compared to how slow court trials can be is pretty crazy. Listen in and leave with some positive vibes! It's starting to get warmer and warmer. For this week's episode Boots will look at the budding controversies surrounding the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. It snows more here in Eastern Oregon then in China! It will be a wait and see to know how the dust settles with that event. Over in Iceland they are going to halt the Whaling business. Boots also gets a little flashback with a story in Las Vegas with Malfunctioning slot machines. Almost a year ago the local tribe's casino here almost ran into that problem. It's that time of the year....it is time for love and taxes! Once again going with a new format/direction for this podcast. Just going to talk about some of the news going across the lands. The show aims to relate to some of those stories to current and past experiences. Out there in the world there has been a ban on a graphic novel dealing with the holocaust, which the spurs some actions of comic book owners across the country to ensure young teenagers have the means to access the literature if they want to. Locally in Eastern Oregon there has been a sting operation in the nearby correction facility to find out who's supplying drugs to some of the inmates there. From this episode on out is where most of the changes will begin to happen. Mostly this is to test out how comfortable we feel when speaking on the mics. 2022 is going to be the year! There's a lot of optimism going into the new year. Hopefully more and more blessings come along the way. In this episode Boots and Alexa look at a list of the biggest events to happen to 2021. Many of the events that happened across the world impacted the isolated areas of Eastern Oregon. Alexa looks back at the teaching she had to do online and in-person. It takes a lot to not throw up or to swear during a ceremony for a political position. Especially when you have to recite an oath, but sometimes all the anticipation can quickly become flat. Post season football in America can get really tense. No matter what age group you are watching you are sure to run into a very dedicated fanbase if you go watch athletics on the gridiron. In this episode Boots and Alexa go out to a variety of playoff High school football games throughout Oregon and Lower Washington. Boot has done his fair share of playing, coaching, and refereeing football games. Which has resulted into some altercations with some uptight parents. It's been a long campaign season. Boots can relax now it's all over. For the past month Boots has been attempting to retain his position within the tribal government of the C.T.U.I.R. This 2021 campaign season was the second Boots and Alexa had to go through. In this episode Boots and Alexa will talk about the strategies that had to be taken in order to be elected again. Boots was going for a Member at large position on the Umatilla Board of Trustees. A lot was learned from the 2019 campaign season. Alexa offered her proofreading skills and lent her moral support. Sometimes tribal politics can be very cutthroat. Most say its an older persons game. Yet at 26 years of age, Boots will enter the realm of politics in order to better the community. When you are out of shape. Don't attempt to go into the mountains to hunt in the steep areas! In this episode Boots is recovering and telling Alexa how big the country is the mountain range nearby. The Blue Mountains in Eastern Oregon kind of look like hills in the distance, but even the foothills of the Blues has some very steep grounds. Boots will tell Alexa how sore he is. Also how much whitetail deer he's seen which is kind of surprising. Since 2018 the local whitetails have been dealing with their own sickness that was wiping them out called the Blue Tongue disease. It looks like the whitetails are returning which is a good thing for the Eastern Oregon ecosystem. Making phone calls can be a chore. Except when your mom is expecting you to call! In this episode Boots and Alexa will talk about why they call their mothers from time to time. Alexa usually gets a phone call everyday, but her mom only talks for about five minutes. Boots calls around every two weeks, yet he's able to speak for roughly two hours. Both agree though that calling moms for advice is a necessity in life. Moms know it all most of the time. There are times where Alexa has a rough time in 2nd grade classrooms and needs comforting word from her mama. Then for Boots, his mom always has the best tips on how to spend money wisely. A short story from older times about a little girl named Thorn. With no one in the village to take care of her after the deaths of Thorn's parents. Thorn becomes an unruly child and is very distant from everyone in the tribe. That's until a tribal elder named Grandmother Leaf who has also dealt with losses of her own decides to take action to mend Thorn's cold heart.

It's Over! The Pendleton Round-Up week has now gone by. Both Boots and Alexa survived somehow after all of the crowds that showed up for the annual rodeo. There was a lot to do, but there was still time to do one of our favorite hobbies which is to people watch. A lot of liquor was sold and a bunch of dust was flying around. Boots was running around making sure the Native American village remained clean. Alexa spent the whole week keeping score of the rodeo events. For the the first time, Alexa learned how to set up and to take down a bunch of tipis. It's pretty crazy that there were thousands upon thousands of people camping and staying in the small town of Pendleton, Oregon. Now it's a ghost town. Time to prepare for 2022! It was time for Boots and Alexa to travel over 2000 miles to get from Oregon to Michigan. Alexa has never been to Michigan. Most of the remaining family Boots has all reside in the Great Lake State. It's getting more and more hot out there. Fires are starting to break out in the Northwest area of the United States. In this episode Boots will reminisce to Alexa about the services his family have provided to the region regarding to fighting fires. Grandpa Ron was a Smokejumper before he got his PhD. In Grandpa Ron's eyes, taking his tests at college were more stressful and scary then what he faced out there in the burning wilderness. Boots and Alexa also had family who served in the Hotshots. It takes a lot of guts and grit to go out and divert or stop fires in the forest where there is nothing but fire fuel around you. The technology and resources today were also not as prevalent as they were back then. Back in the day there used to be a stray dog problem on the Umatilla Reservation. There was one Rez Dog who stood out from the rest because most other dogs couldn't survive the moves this one particular dog did on a daily basis. In this episode Boots and Alexa will talk about Man's best friend and the many pet dogs they encountered so far in their lives. To beat the heat, they say its best to go on a little road trip. After the record breaking heatwave that hit the Pacific Northwest. Trying to continue the good vibes! In this episode Boots and Alexa remember how much composure is needed when working in Elementary School classrooms. Trying to find a moment of silence at elementary schools is pretty difficult, but experience will be gained if there's enough effort to stay grounded and positive for the kids. Sometimes though, the classroom will eventually lose control and will end up having the same energy as the playground outside. Whether its the weather itself causing indoor recess or a holiday party for the class; classrooms will sometimes become a playground of some sorts. HO-LAY! Springtime is here and that means the first foods are making a comeback. In this fourth episode, Boots and Alexa talk about their ventures trying to get roots last year. Boots will also talk about the processes of why and how the peoples of the Umatilla Tribe pursue these roots. Alexa has an outsiders point of view and will voice her experiences since going out in the hills with Boots to scope out our sisters. The sisters(the roots) will show themselves for the gathering to come in the upcoming weeks. Its time to rejoice the return of the roots!
