When we talk about investing in mutual funds or in the equity market, one of the most important things we talk about is returns and risk. Returns on one hand is quantifiable. Risk on the other, is not quantifiable. When you look at a mutual fund, it will either say that is high risk, low risk or moderate risk. However, there is no number to it. Risk is also very subjective.
What is a risky fund to me, might not be an extremely risky fund to you. This depends on investor psychology and the duration an investor wants to invest for. Investors often get scared when their stocks go down. Well, the first reason can be that everyone around us is usually panicking that the price may go down further. But, if you are a long term investor, short-term volatility must not affect you. It is very important for investors to not invest in mutual funds through borrowed capital. These are a few basic points that every investor must know about risk.
