Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for the knowledge of God's will and the power to carry that out.
Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to those in addiction and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
This week, we discuss the first steps of the 12 Step Program for Behavioral Change!
Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure themselves and others
Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
This week, we discuss the next steps of the 12 Step Program for Behavioral Change!

As the guest host of Dr. Dan Wagner's radio show "Adventures in Natural Health," Sven Hosford talked with Jim Ellermeyer of S'eclairer Behavioral Health, where Dr. Dan will be seeing clients once a month. Ellermeyer gave a rundown of the operations of S'eclairer, especially the philosophy of healing which is based in Mindfulness. All types of healing are used there, including nutritional therapy, herbs, essential oils, and many other things. Dr. Dan will be emphasizing the supplements that can have a positive impact on mental health. In this conversation, Ellermeyer gives a full picture of how that fits in to the Lifestyle Medicine offerings at S'eclairer.

The Role of Integrative Medicine
in Clinics and Hospitals in Clinics and Hospitals Integrative Medicine is growing in popularity with both doctors and patients, but its role within Clinics such as S'eclairer and hospitals such as Allegheny General Hospital is still being defined. New science, and the awareness of that science within bureaucracies are critical to defining how and when Integrative practices are best used. Dr. O'Neill will discuss how those guidelines are evolving in hospital settings, and how smaller clinics and hospital systems can work together for optimal patient health.
Betsy Blazek-O'Neill, MD is a Staff Physician with the Integrative Medicine Program at Allegheny General Hospital and with the Allegheny Health Network. According to an article recently in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dr. O'Neill "is one of the few physicians in the area who readily recognizes the health impacts of stress, and uses that knowledge to help patients manage it."

In today's podcast of Mental Health in the News, the S'eclairer staff talks to noted Bullying Expert Israel C. Kalman, author of Bullies 2 Buddies. "Izzy" developed a program to address bullying from a unique perspective -- to change the behavior of the 'victim' rather than trying to change the behavior of the bully. Recently a school psychologist in Nebraska sent home a list of "rules" for how to NOT be bullied, and when some parents responded negatively, Izzy and his program became the object of bullying by the press and social media. Medical Director Dr. Safdar Chaudhary, media consultant Sven Hosford, and Intern Jill Gross question Izzy on his program, the controversy, and what finally happened after he was bullied.
James Ellermeyer and Kaitlyn Angeletti talk about Phobias, including the difference between a normal fear and having a problem, treating your phobia and effective therapy for specific phobias.
What is meant by the word "retreat"? What are we retreating from, and where are we retreating to? Are there medical benefits to regular retreats? These questions and more are explored in this week's "Mental Health in the News" with Sven Hosford and S'eclairer Medical Director Dr. Safdar Chaudhary. The question are pertinent to this weekend's Conference on Friday and Retreat on Saturday, both featuring Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona, author of Coyote Medicine, Narrative Medicine, and many others.
Dr. Zahida Chaudhary and James Ellermeyer talk about toxins in our environment, including what they do to our body. They also take a look specifically at DDT and the process of it getting into the public long before we could determine it's negative effects.
Mental Health in the News - a podcast where issues in the news and upcoming events are discussed with mental health and integrative medicine professionals.
This week, Dr. Dan Wagner joins Dr. Safdar Chaudhary and host Sven Hosford to discuss his recent visit to S'eclairer to learn about mindfulness and how it is practiced in the mental health arena, while offering his knowledge of the affects of toxins, especially heavy metals, on mental health. They conclude together that a great many mental issues could be completely cured with proper nutrition and supplementation.
They also discuss the upcoming Open House at Nutrifarmacy, and the May 2 Conference.
James Ellermeyer, Sven Hosford, and Omair Chaudhary talk about what foods effect your mood including sugars, processed foods, and glutens that can bring your energy down. Why do they need to spend so much money to talk you into eating it? Why is coffee potentially good for you? Does it really cost less to eat healthy?

The staff of S'eclairer is joined by neuroscience researcher Dr. Matt Keener to discuss the recent events at Franklin Regional High School, which is close by geographically. Medical Director Dr. Safdar Chaudhary and staff discuss the role violence in our society and how it has changed over recent years, and how the media seems to make the problem worse but focussing only the most negative aspects of a story. As Dr. Keener works with children and teenagers, and as S'eclairer works with those dealing with the aftereffects of violence, the conversation covers many aspects of healing the wounds and how to create a caring and more loving community.
James Ellermeyer and Kaitlyn Angeletti talk about the misdiagnosis of manic episodes and bipolar disorder, the high risk behavior that can accompany these, and what a small conversation with the right professional can reveal. We discuss the treatments and medications sometimes used, including mood stabilizers, application of mindfulness, and finding the outside factors that may be leading to these conditions such as thyroid issues and substance abuse.

Dr. Courtney started his career as a high school teacher and his passion for learning motivated him to earn a medical degree in anesthesiology. After studying at West Penn Hospital, he founded his own practice and began incorporating alternative and complementary medicine in 1994, finding many of his patients with serious health problems were not interested in traditional medical approaches. Dr. Courtney and his patients eagerly pursue alternatives to traditional procedures not usually seen in orthodox western medicine. He is actively involved in physician organizations that promote integrated medicine such as the Executive Boards of both ACAM (American College for the Advancement of Medicine) and ICIM (The International College of Integrated Medicine). He is a respected authority on natural and integrative disciplines and is mentor to physicians and patients alike.
