In 1954, a group of friends from Ferndale, Michigan came together to make music and called themselves The Domingoes In 1961 they changed their name to The Spinners and charted their first hit in August of 1961 with " That's What Girls Are Made For", which peaked at number 27.
As of 2012, The Spinners have been active for over 50 years, with a long run of pop and R&B hits especially during the 1970s, and they still tour regularly.
Occasionally the names Detroit Spinners, or Motown Spinners (for their 1960s recordings with the Detroit label) were used in the UK to avoid confusion with a British folk group also called The Spinners.
“Truly Yours, Spotlight On The Spinners” contains of some of my personal favorites by The Spinners, and after listening I’m sure they’ll be some of yours also. N-Joi!
