Back when I was a teenager I was trapped in an elevator with about 28 other people. We were scared. We smelled smoke! We were packed in tight with no almost room to move... One young woman next to me began to scream in terror, unnerving us all. We began to doubt and lose hope of ever being rescued. But in that pack elevator one soul finally heard the most blessed words ever spoken - "We'll get you out of there, just hold on." Instantly hope was restored. Mind you we were still in the predicament, but now there was hope! We could hold on... In our passage we are reminded that the people this was written to were experiencing tremendous trials. They were losing hope. And Peter takes it upon himself to help them understand that there hope is secure. And we, be extension receive the same hope too!
While things in this life break down and decay, our inheritance isn't affected by these same laws of nature. It's eternal. When the child of God shifts focus from the things they can lose: health, jobs, careers, family even their very lives to the things they can't lose - heavenly inheritance, relationship with Jesus, etc... they can experience peace even in the midst of great struggle and trials here unearth.

On today's episode we are dealing with our living hope. And we find that the Apostle Peter is really trying to encourage those who have been displaced and are under intense persecution and have lost, jobs, families, careers, health, and financial resources. Not too unlike what many of us are experiencing today! Join in as we learn how our hope is secure and never perishes, spoils or fades.
Continuation of our study on the Living Hope we have as children of God. we learn that we are commanded to praise God regardless of our circumstances and how that changes our focus when we do. We find that our living hope is rich in mercy because God first loved us. It is imperishable, undefiled and never ending. Introduction to the idea of this living hope we have in Christ Jesus.We learn that hope is like oxygen... absolutely necessary for our survival! And we find that we can withstand great tragedy and loss in our lives as long as we possess this hope but without it we find that we can rapidly sink into despair and depression. But the great news is this hope we have in Jesus isn't a wishful kind of feeling, no, instead it is a confident expectation of good in our future!
This time we finish up our previous conversation regarding the idea that God chose us and we also choose Him. We learn that these two truths join together because of the word "according", which works as a coupler between them. Because these two ideas come together, no matter whatever is happening, no matter the circumstances, and no matter whatever situation you find yourself in - you ARE the choice of God! And that should change how we see the world and the predicaments we find ourselves in.
In today's podcast we're taking a look at the idea of God choosing us. That is, we discover that before the universe was created, before any kind of "BIG Bang," before Noah, Abraham, Moses or anyone or anything - God chose you to be His child. That knowledge should impact and encourage us! Regardless of circumstances, regardless of pandemics, regardless of your financial situation or health or friends or job or anything... GOD CHOSE YOU to be a part of His family!
