Part 2 in our series on what it means to be a part of a Church and service the community.
The most important part of the relay race is the handover. That’s where your team succeeds or fails. It depends on a person being willing to graciously hand off the baton to the next runner. And both parties executing the changeover well. That’s at the heart of discipleship. In today's final message of this series, Elijah passes the baton to his disciple, Elisha.
Many people in our society are miserable because they are repeating King Ahaziah’s mistake: they look for help in the wrong place. They are searching for strength, fulfillment, comfort and answers to life’s deepest questions. But they go looking for answers from the wrong gods.We need to be willing to hear the message God has for us, not go seeking someone to give us the message we want.
Reading from 1 Kings 21:1-29. Ahab was the worst, most evil king of Israel. In the NT Paul describes himself as "the worst of sinners". When we compare ourselves to others, we may seem better or worse by comparison. We are all sinners, deserving of judgement. But, in Christ, we are repentant sinners.

Depression is not failure – it’s a natural part of being human. It doesn’t disqualify us from serving God – but it can help remind us that we desperately need God and others to help us along. Today we explore how God helped Elijah through his time of depression and consider how we can help others around us.
The purpose of the church is to: GROW MATURE DISCIPLES. Today we explore Acts 2:38-47 and see how the early church accomplished this. Then we ask ourselves how YBC (in Yokine 2021) can achieve this same goal.
Elijah was a man just like us. It was Elijah’s God that was powerful. And we serve the same God. That’s why our prayers can be just as effective as Elijah’s. All God asks of us is the prayer of faith.
Faith is not just a generic self-belief. Not a vague hope that everything will work out if we believe hard enough. True faith is grounded on the firm foundation of God's Word. God had told Elijah what he would do, and Elijah took him at his word. That’s the definition of faith.
We meet three very different characters: Elijah, Obadiah & Ahab.
Ahab Didn’t Learn. Elijah Didn’t Doubt. Obadiah Didn’t Run.
No one starts out as a giant of faith - even Elijah. His faith was small, but it grew. God nurtured and grew his faith. God wants to use us for his glory. But he won’t give us more than we can handle. He wants to train and guide us. He wants to nurture and grow our faith.
Today we are introduced to the original “Odd Couple”. One is a king, living in his palace, with all his wealth and power. The other is a humble man from a small town in enemy-occupied territory. We learn how to look at life from a heavenly perspective - to make decisions that have an eternal impact.
Can people really change? That's at the heart of Christianity. As we come to the end of our Easter Challenge series, I want to end by challenging you to walk with Jesus every day. Let’s not have Jesus as part of our lives — let’s make Him the centre of our lives every day and follow anywhere and everywhere He leads us.
We are challenged to find one person every day, where your actions say, “I notice you; you matter”, and to pray, “Lord, what do they need?” and “Lord, what should I do?”
We explore Jesus' challenge that he is the only foundation worthy to build our lives on.
When it’s working right, there is nothing like the church. But it only works right when we understand that the church isn’t a building. It is a gathering of followers of Jesus Christ who are united by their love for Him. But don’t just attend church – be the church.
People have all sorts of warped pictures of what God is like: a genie who grants wishes or a killjoy who wants to spoil our fun. But if you want to know what God really looks like - look at the cross of Christ.

In our series finale, John teaches us how to die well. John died as he lived - declaring the truth, leading people to Jesus and setting an example that others imitated long after he was gone.
John's Gospel shows us how one person can reach one person. Then that person can reach another. John the Baptist reveals a very simple formula for reaching people for Jesus. Unlike the coronavirus, the good news of Jesus is something we want to be contagious.
Whoever you’re comparing to Jesus, Jesus comes out on top. Jesus has no rival. He has no equal. His is the name above all names. Jesus is truly greater than the most powerful leader on earth; he is greater than the greatest man who ever lived. Surely that’s something worth praising, and something worth talking about.
Today’s story teaches us two important truths. First, we can Trust God’s Timing. God’s timing is perfect! And second, words matter. They shape reality and influence destinies.
The story of an old man and an old woman who thought they were beyond hope and prayers. They were powerless to achieve their dreams, but God wasn’t. Zechariah teaches us that any day can become your best day. You just never know what God has in store for you. (Ephesians 3:20) God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or imagine.
Jesus called John, “the greatest person ever born of a woman.” For the next several weeks, we are going to be lifted up together by the life of John the Baptist, The Forerunner” to our Messiah. Today we'll see how God prepared a discouraged world for the coming of His Son.

Vision keeps us focused and moving in the right direction. Nehemiah had a Vision to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He didn’t just think about the Vision… he didn’t just look at the Vision… he didn’t just talk about the Vision… He lived the Vision!
