The Daily Mail reunited IRL to see Thom Yorke on the Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes tour last week, and we get together today to talk about how great it was (spoiler alert: really fucking great.) Plus: Suspiria, LP3, and what we think might be in store from the band in 2019. Thanks for another year of listening to us talk about Radiohead for way too many hours!
We’re doing some housekeeping this week after a few months away, reconnecting to discuss the end of Radiohead’s latest tour, Thom’s newly announced North American dates (yes, your hosts will be in attendance), and the impending release of the Suspiria soundtrack, and to catch up on listener emails. Also, Thom wore a dope suit on the red carpet and we talk about that a little bit too.
For our FIFTIETH EPISODE, we reconvene after a weekend in Chicago to go over our experience together at nights one and two of the latest tour leg. Featuring recorded conversations and interview material from before and after the shows, our favorite moments of the weekend, the songs that shocked us the most (Blow Out!!), and your hosts finally getting to meet in person, this is surely the episode that’ll be on our videotape at the pearly gates.
We reconvene this week to discuss the remaining bangers (& mash) from In Rainbows Disc 2, plus an extra song from 2009, just because we love you guys. Anne and Ben go head to head on How Can You Be Sure (of all songs) but fangirl together over India Rubber, Killer Cars is examined as another instance of Thom’s lyrical preoccupation with cars, and Maquiladora’s unusual connection to the band’s early history is revealed. Your talk show hosts have returned for another marathon Radiohead chat sesh! We spend a good chunk of time this week catching up with emails and fan feedback, but we still manage to find some time for three tracks from the Street Spirit single; plus, the upcoming OK Computer 20th anniversary reissue, and revisiting A Moon Shaped Pool on its first birthday.
Hot on the heels of a Coachella livestream riddled with technical difficulties, we finish up the My Iron Lung EP’s last three tracks on this week’s episode - the Larkin-inspired Lozenge of Love, Sonic Youth homage Permanent Daylight, and one-take wonder You Never Wash Up After Yourself. Plus: a few emails give us the impression that Pop is Dead may have more genuine fans than we first believed...
Having completed our discussion on Radiohead’s LPs, this week we shift our focus to the band’s extensive b-side collection, returning all the way back to the Pablo Honey era with a few obscure early tracks and a notoriously ill-advised one-off single.
