//Episode Notes//

Julia Bison is a Psychologist who graduated from the University of New Hampshire

I met Julia Bison at a Tony Robbins event called Global Youth Leadership Summit or GYLS.

Studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming

She changed her major several times in college.

Julia went from Business to Acting to Psychology.

She has psychology coaching clients all over the world.

Julia grew up in Brazil. She took English classes at the age of 4 but she couldn’t pick it up that well. When Julia went to Canada to study abroad, she learned English and Spanish.

She talks about Full Emergent Learning where she had only friends that spoke English and Spanish where she was forced to learn those languages quickly.

You have to have a strong reason why you must do XYZ.

Julia wanted to travel and live abroad in order to grow and learn more.

She put a full PowerPoint presentation to convince her parents to let her go to Canada.

Julia moved to Australia because she was starting to go into a state of depression and she linked her environment in Canada as a contributing factor.

She got accepted into the Biomedical Sciences division at Griffith University in the Gold Coast in Australia.

While in Australia, Julia began taking acting classes. She feels that taking these acting classes allowed her to grow emotionally more than anything else.

She thinks that going to community college with others that were struggling in life was an amazing opportunity to go through.

Julia felt that even while taking classes in university, she was mainly just learning the theory behind the mind. It wasn’t until she started attending events such as Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within, where she began putting that theory into practice.

She talks about going into a mental gym.

“What’s my Purpose for the Day?”

It’s okay to want to strive to be better.

You can use negative based motivation to help move you forward as long as you feel comfortable with it and the person that is receiving it is also comfortable with it.

A lot of people have negative and destructive self-talk.

She talks about helping her clients with self-emotional mastery.

One of the things that Julia does to help strengthen her emotional home, is to put sticky notes everywhere with positive messages.

After a month, she changes the messages, colors, and position of the sticky notes in order to not get used to seeing the same ones and get desensitized.

What are action steps to take right now to help someone achieve greatness?

Choose an area of life that isn’t optimal. Write down all of the things in that area that you are struggling with. Then write down the action items that you must take in order to move that area of struggle into a one of strength. You must also write down your reason why you must change that part of your life now!

AEMind.com | How does Serotonin Improve Memory and What does it do in the brain?

Free Better Memory Now Guide ▶ http://www.BetterMemoryGuide.com

Memory Training at ▶ http://www.aemind.com

Full Article and Study Resources here:

https://www.aemind.com/how-does-serotonin-improve-memory-and-what-does-it-do-in-the-brain/

If you’re asking yourself “What is Serotonin and what does it do in the Brain when it comes to improving memory?” let me go ahead and help you with that and also teach you how easy it is to memorize the term.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter known as a happy chemical. It has been known to make individuals feel happy and there may be a correlation between a lack of serotonin in our brain and depression. It is still being studied as to whether someone's depression causes the low levels of serotonin or if having a smaller amount of serotonin in the brain contributes to someone being depressed.

Today, I will be sharing with you the leading scientific discoveries as to how serotonin levels affect long term memory. You will also learn how there is a direct link with low levels of serotonin and individuals with dementia.

Let’s get started with a mnemonic story.

How to Memorize what Serotonin is

I want you to imagine that you’re sad, depressed, and moping around all day in your home because you can’t go outside and play with your friends. All of a sudden, you see a hand reach out to you with a huge bowl of cereal. You look up as you wipe away your tears and see Tony the Tiger standing with his hand out holding the bowl of Frosted Flakes and he has a huge smile on his face. You immediately grab the bowl of cereal and give Tony a huge hug for making you feel happy.

In order to help you quickly memorize and learn what serotonin is and what it does to you, you have to turn the medical term meaning and definition into a mnemonic story. You want to add as many senses as you can and make the image come to life.

In the story above, we used a few associations to help us remember what the neurotransmitter, serotonin is. Did you catch them?

Here they are:

Serotonin = Cereal + Tony (we used Tony the Tiger and Frosted Flakes Cereal.

In order to help us remember that portion of the medical association, we visualized Tony having a big smile and making you happy as you give him a huge hug.

You can add more visual triggers if you wanted to but in essence, you have your main characters and objects there to play with.

I like to tell my students to imagine themselves as a director to a huge cinematic motion picture and that they have an infinite budget to make the stories as wild, vivid, and dynamic as they want. Add as many characters, action sequences, emotional triggers, add whatever you feel is necessary to bring this story to life and help you memorize quickly, what you want to remember.

Now for more scientific research-backed information about Serotonin

Medical Definition for Serotonin

The neuropharmacology scientific medical term for serotonin is 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT, which is a monoamine neurotransmitter found in the central nervous system (CNS)

Memory Mnemonic for Hydroxytryptamine is:

Hydroxy = Hydrant (fire) sneezing

Tryptamine = Trap (mouse) + Diamond

I spoke with Nick Marino who is a Top Student Actor and has a lot of great insight into the world of acting on stage.

Focus Tip:

In Australia, I prepared for the International Memory competition by staying in a hostel and doing my memory training while in the presence of a lot of other individuals. The reason being, was so that I could simulate the absolute worst case scenarios as far as distractions so that come game day, I would be able to fully focus and pay attention to the task at hand. I ended up getting to Gold Medal positions at the Australian Memory Championship by memorizing a Deck of Cards in 2 minutes and breaking the Australian record of Abstract images.

I decided to go take the CoronaVirus Antibody at the Arcpoit Labs in Santa Fe Springs, CA in Los Angeles County. It was a pretty easy to take test. I scheduled my appointment in the morning, and took the test at 1pm that afternoon.

I had been traveling a lot earlier this year and I had gotten really sick a few months ago. I thought that I had caught COVID 19 even though I didn't go take the actual test, because I did have all of the symptoms. Back in December, I was coughing a lot, had a high fever, and was experiencing shortness of breath. Then after my Kilimanjaro summit hike, I got really sick again while I was in Spain.

So to ease my mind a bit, I decided to go take the Corona Virus Antibody test and my results came back negative!

One thing that I have learned through my journey as a student and as a mental athlete, is that the best way to not learn something quickly is to say negative phrases in your mind and have negative beliefs about yourself. All that you are doing is building up a wall which prevents new information and ideas to flow smoothly into your mind.

What you want to do instead of having negative thoughts while learning something new, is to say empowering and positive phrases. Things like: "This is Easy" "I Can Learn This" "I am smart." When you do that, You give permission to the new information to come right into your mind so that you learn it faster.

Remember! Empowering Thoughts create Positive Results!!

How's it going? This is Luis Angel, your memory coach with AE Mind!

We all know that there are 8 Planets (The ex 9th planet, Pluto, was demoted and is now considered a Dwarf Planet thanks to Neil Degrasse Tyson and other Astrophysicist in the Science Community) in our Solar System. These planets rotate round and round our home star called the Sun.

Our Solar System rotates alongside other planetary systems, around a black hole in the Milky Way Galaxy.

There are hundreds of billions of these galaxies in our ever expanding Universe!

So let's focus back on our 8 planets. How do we remember the order of the rocks floating in space?

It's simple. You use the AE Mind Memory System.

Step 1. Location

Step 2. Visualize

Step 3. Review

Create locations by imagining that you are walking around your home and choose different spots as storage places.

Then you use the following images to help you remember that the planets go in that specific order.

  1. Mercury = Element Mercury

  2. Venus = Venus Williams or Venus Razor

  3. Earth = Globe

  4. Mars = Martian

  5. Jupiter = Jumping Tar

  6. Saturn = Rings

  7. Uranus = Your Asparagus

  8. Neptune = Nap Tune (Pillow with Headphones)

*9. Pluto = Pluto the Dog (remember that this is now considered a Dwarf Planet)

Get the Memorize Planets PDF File here: http://www.aemind.com/memorizeplanets

Visualize each one of these images along a specific route in your home. 1st Image of Mercury to the 1st location in your home. 2nd one to the 2nd and so on...

Then Make sure to review. Make the Images and Creative Stories more vivid by adding all of your senses. What do you See, Hear, Smell, Taste, Feel..

That's it!

Have Fun with the process!

How they’ve worked together in other projects prior to Mullen Memory, such as the science fair. Cathy went to Princeton and Alex went to John Hopkins. They are now medical students at the University of Mississippi. They weren’t as successful with applying the memory techniques to their studies in the beginning. They both made refinements in order to help them apply the memorization skills to learning their class material while at med school. Take notes on how they’re memorizing the information in university. Now they think through the concepts first before applying a memory technique. The memory palace helps them with their critical thinking. Even when using memory techniques, you still need to review the information while studying. How Cathy and Alex Mullen use the memory techniques when memorizing Anatomy Digestive Tract – Foregut, Midgut, Hindgut They stored and encoded the foregut references on the ceiling. Celiac Nerve = ceiling. Vagus Nerve = Vegas Sign on ceiling. Foregut = the number 4 or a forearm. We talked about creating memory palaces and how to use locations in order to memorize the school material to make studying easier. We discussed whether or not they reuse locations and memory palaces to learn new information along the same path that they’ve created associations for already using that path. In continuation with the Digestive tract. Midgut: Superior Mesenteric Artery = Lionel Messi Celebrating. HindGut: Inferior Mesenteric Artery = Messi injured. How they memorize pharmacology material. Pelvic Nerve = Elvis (pelvic thrust) Do they ever reuse images for other things that might have similar sounding words associated with the med terms. Pharmacology Examples - Penicillin: Amoxicillin = Ammo Shells. Side effects for Penicillin - Hypersensitivity reaction = Donald Trump Bio-Chemistry Medical Terminology – Aspartate, Glycine, Glutamine, THF (Tetrahydrofolate) Aspartate = Asphalt Glycine = Ice Glutamine = Glutes THF = Four Foals (horses) Spaced repetition study software: Anki – http://www.AnkiSRS.net Quizlet – http://www.Quizlet.com Great Time Management and Productivity Method: Pomodoro Technique This study tip technique requires the student to study for a set period of time without distractions and then take a break for about 5 minutes in which Alex recommends that you reward yourself during that time. He likes to read a book or watch videos during his breaks. After a few homework study times and breaks sets, you want to then take an extended break for about 15 minutes before starting the cycle over again. Another tip for success in Med School is to create and keep a consistent daily schedule. Takeaways:

================

As I prepare for the Tokyo Japan Memory Championship, I wanted to memorize some words and learn how to count in Japanese using the memory techniques.

The basics of the AE Mind Memory System when it comes to memorizing words or in this case, counting from 1-10 in Japanese, is to create an image for the number, an image for the translated version of the word in the language that we desire, and then joining the two together to create a story out of them.

I brought my intelligent niece to help use memorize and create vivid stories with the numbers in Japanese.

So to start learning how to count in Japanese, you first need to create the base images for the numbers 1-10. If you already have your own images for these numbers or you have gone through the AE Mind How to Memorize Numbers series (http://www.aemind.com/numbers), then feel free to use those pictures.

If you haven't created them yet, here are my images for these numbers:

1 = Pencil

2 = Swan

3 = Tree

4 = Floor

5 = Hand

6 = Sticks

7 = Hook

8 = Infinity Loop

9 = Q

10 = Tent

The images for the Japanese Numbers are:

1 = ichi = itchy

2 = ni = knee

3 = san = sun

4 = yon (shi) = yawn

5 = go = go (green light)

6 = roku = rocket (w/ goku)

7 = nana (shichi) = grandma

8 = hachi = hatching (egg)

9 = kyu = Q

10 = ju = chew

There you go. Now create a story with each corresponding image and you have now learned how to count from one through ten in Japanese!

An example would be: Tree (3) is burning because of the Sun (san).

How's it going? This is Luis Angel, your memory coach with AE Mind!

As I was going through my journey of discovering how to fix my memory problems, I discovered that I needed to first cure my inability to focus on the tasks at hand. My mind would always wander off and this led me to being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder ( ADD/ADHD ). The doctors and psychologist gave me amphetamine based drugs such as Adderall and also methylphenidate based drugs such as Ritalin. These have a similar chemical composition as methamphetamine which is speed. I didn't like taking that, so I sought out a natural fix for my focus, attention, and concentration problems.

Here are the three things that I started to Focus on:

  1. Diet - Health. I started to put more water based and natural foods into my body. Fruits and Vegetables became a staple to my wellbeing. I started to eat more berries which are rich in antioxidants, flax seed oil which has omega 3 fatty acids and support optimal brain function, and bananas which have potassium and supports better neuron brain cell communication.

  2. Meditation. I started to practice clear mind and present mind meditation. This helped me to stay focused for longer periods of time outside of my meditation sessions.

  3. Memory training. Incorporating a regular routine to practice memory boosting and brain enhancing activities such as memorizing cards and long numbers helped me to improve my ability to focus and concentrate.

Let me know what are some of the strategies that you impose to help you naturally stay focused.

//Summary//

Fast Company Article: https://goo.gl/iz7UqJ

Want To Know What Your Brain Does When It Hears A Question?

Questions hijack the brain. The moment you hear one, you literally can't think of anything else. And that can be a powerful tool.

"Behavioral scientists have also found that just asking people about their future decisions significantly influences those decisions, a phenomenon known as the "mere measurement effect." Back in 1993, social scientists Vicki Morwitz, Eric Johnson, and David Schmittlein conducted a study with more than 40,000 participants that revealed that simply asking someone if people were going to purchase a new car within six months increased their purchase rates by 35%."

"As neuroscientist John Medina puts it in his book Brain Rules, "Research shows that we can’t multitask. We are biologically incapable of processing attention-rich inputs simultaneously." Likewise, Nobel Prize–winning economist Herbert Simon has written that human beings consciously "operate largely in serial fashion. The more demanding the task, the more we are single-minded."

At every personal development event that I've gone to, from NLP and Tony Robbins events to motivation based events, they always talk about asking the right questions. There is power in framing questions in a positive light in order to get positive answers.

One of the parts of the brain that helps with this is called the Reticular Activating System. The RAS finds answers to those questions.

Let me know a positive question that you're going to ask yourself to help you move your life into a positive direction?
