Exorcism (from Greek εξορκισμός, exorkismós "binding by oath") is the religious or spiritual practice of evicting demons or other spiritual entities from a person, or an area, that are believed to be possessed.[1] Depending on the spiritual beliefs of the exorcist, this may be done by causing the entity to swear an oath, performing an elaborate ritual, or simply by commanding it to depart in the name of a higher power. The practice is ancient and part of the belief system of many cultures and religions.
Requested and performed exorcism began to decline in the United States by the 18th century and occurred rarely until the latter half of the 20th century when the public saw a sharp rise due to the media attention exorcisms were getting. There was "a 50% increase in the number of exorcisms performed between the early 1960s and the mid-1970s".
Deputy Carlos Felipez, 46, had served on the force since February of 2014. He died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His death is now the fourth first responder suicide in the Tampa Bay Area since September.
he tragedy has brought to light the challenges first responders take home with them each and every day, and the last effect those challenges have.
"They see things that none of us really ever want to see or have to experience. So to know that they're going from call to call to call that can really add up and take such a huge toll on them," said Clara Reynolds, CEO of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.
It was reported that in 2017, 243 police officers, deputies, and firefighters committed suicide.

rime in Chicago has been tracked by the Chicago Police Department's Bureau of Records since the beginning of the 20th century. The city's overall crime rate, especially the violent crime rate, is higher than the US average. Chicago was responsible for nearly half of 2016's increase in homicides in the US, though the nation's crime rates remain near historic lows. The reasons for the higher numbers in Chicago remain unclear. An article in The Atlantic detailed how researchers and analysts had come to no real consensus on the cause for the violence.
Chicago saw a major rise in violent crime starting in the late 1960s. Murders in the city peaked in 1974, with 970 murders when the city's population was over three million, resulting in a murder rate of around 29 per 100,000, and again in 1992, with 943 murders when the city had fewer than three million people, resulting in a murder rate of 34 murders per 100,000 citizens.
After 1992, the murder count steadily decreased to 415 murders by the mid 2000s, a reduction of over 50 percent. In 2018, there were 561 murders.

A 40-year-old Las Vegas hotel cleaner won a child support battle against a 28-year-old millionaire who she never slept with. Jane was 36 when she stole a used condom from a then 24-year-old tech millionaire's hotel garbage can. She inserted the semen inside her vagina and became pregnant with a baby boy who is now 4-years-old. During the child support hearing, Jane confessed that she never slept with the young millionaire and that she impregnated herself with his sperm while she was cleaning his room.

Perception
Imagine that we have six witnesses from whom we are collecting evidence. One witness states emphatically that the accused broke into her home. The next witness is equally adamant that the accused was home in bed with her at the time in question. Another witness states that they saw the man crawl through a ground level window as they were passing in their automobile, and yet still another witness questions the certainty of that statement by pointing out how poorly lit the area is. However, they too had seen something from their home across the street, but by the time they dressed and got outside the accused was kneeling on the front lawn of their neighbor. Still another witness insists that this is the man they caught in their home and they held until law enforcement arrived. And our last witness claims that the accused was home in bed all the time with his mother.
Now, when law enforcement arrived the accused was kneeling on the front yard with a gun pointed at his head by the owner of the home that was allegedly entered illegally by the accused. The accused argues that he saw someone running from the house and the homeowner ran outside in pursuit and mistakenly identified him as the burglar, threatening to shoot him if he didn't kneel and remain stationary until the cops arrived.
Okay, think about this one. We are all aware of the problem that can arise from eye witness testimony and the variety of descriptions that witnesses can provide. Our system of justice simply could not work if the descriptions offered by every witness were all taken to be absolutely true. The fact is, what we are dealing with is the perception of truth by each of the witnesses.

When Christopher Columbus first set foot on the white sands of Guanahani island, he performed a ceremony to "take possession" of the land for the king and queen of Spain, acting under the international laws of Western Christendom. Although the story of Columbus' "discovery" has taken on mythological proportions in most of the Western world, few people are aware that his act of "possession" was based on a religious doctrine now known in history as the Doctrine of Discovery. Even fewer people realize that today – five centuries later – the United States government still uses this archaic Judeo-Christian doctrine to deny the rights of Native American Indians.

John Wayne has been a hero at the University of Southern California for decades. But some students at the private Los Angeles school, the late movie star's alma mater, now view him as a villain.
A group of USC students are demanding the removal of a long-time Wayne memorabilia exhibit at the university's acclaimed film school. The reason the activists give, reports the student newspaper: the actor's "legacy of endorsing white supremacy and the removal of indigenous people."
This harsh interpretation of the iconic star chiefly comes from a 1971 interview Wayne gave to Playboy magazine. Quotes from the article, some of them chopped of their context, made the rounds on social media earlier this year, prompting articles in the Washington Post and other news outlets.
"Since the reemergence of [the Playboy interview] I have felt viscerally uncomfortable [with the exhibit] because of the promotion and glorification of a noted white supremacist and racist," film student Reanna Cruz told the Daily Trojan.
Wayne, 63 years old in 1971 and a dedicated anti-communist who backed the Vietnam War, expressed views that were relatively common at the time, when the U.S. was in the midst of unprecedented cultural upheaval.
He dismissed student anti-war protesters as naïve, saying they were engaging in "kind of dissension by rote." And he railed against the critically-lauded counterculture movies of the era, like "Easy Rider" and "Midnight Cowboy," calling them "perverted films."
This mostly comes across today as little more than cranky, "Get off my lawn"-type talk. But Wayne also expressed skepticism of Black Power advocates and African-American political leaders of the time, leading to the recent claims he was racist.
"With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so," Wayne said when asked about "black militants."...

Last November, hundreds of people had protested outside the Balbriggan Garda Station in the hopes that Garda will be forced to take a more forceful action. However, these efforts of the terrorized people were to no avail.
Although Garda claim that they devoted "supreme efforts" to end the terror, the terror had continued.
Some residents have also alleged that unnecessary restraint is being exercised by Garda in view of the ethnicity of the gang.
So, when the police failed to do their job, these bikers stepped in!
These bikers are part of a motorcycle club who have modeled themselves after the Hells Angels. Although the Hells Angels are classified as a criminal organization by the US Department of Justice and many law enforcement agencies around the world, members of Hells Angels have frequently been seen indulging in a whole lot of social service.
Of course, there are people who say that this is just a PR effort by the "gang", but nonetheless, the Angels are not all bad. And this motorcycle club in Dublin certainly wasn't!
The Dublin-based club attacked the ring leaders of this gang of teenage thugs.
The authorities which didn't take any sufficient action against the gang were the first to condemn the club's vigilante action. However, the terrorized residents were all praise for them. Their actions were overwhelmingly welcomed by the residents, who finally good breathe a sigh of relief.

The United States is unexpectedly pulling its troops from the border between north-eastern Syria and Turkey, raising questions over the fate of the area.
It will allow the Turkish military to launch an operation there against a Kurdish-led militia alliance that Western powers relied on to defeat the Islamic State (IS) group.
We've boiled down why it matters.
Why is Turkey planning an assault?
One main reason: Turkey considers the biggest militia in the Kurdish-led alliance a terrorist group. It says it is an extension of a Kurdish rebel group fighting in Turkey.
Turkish leaders want a 32km (20-mile) deep "safe zone" along the Syrian side of the border clear of Kurdish fighters. They also hope to resettle up to 2 million Syrian refugees currently living in Turkey there.
The Kurdish-led alliance says it will defend its territory and that the US is "leaving the area to turn into a war zone" and risking the re-emergence of IS.

To understand the battle of spiritual warfare, we need to begin with acknowledging that we are in a war. Battles make up smaller components of the bigger picture. By definition, battles involve combat between two persons, between factions, between armies and they consist of any type of "extended contest, struggle, or controversy" (Webster-Merriam). As Christians, we are in a spiritual battle of some sort on a daily basis. In warfare, battles are fought on different fronts, for different reasons, and with varying degrees of intensity. The same is true in spiritual warfare. Our spiritual battles and warfare are real, even though we cannot physically see the attacker. But, we can educate ourselves on how the battles are fought and how they impact our lives on a daily basis.
We have to ask ourselves, "Why do we even want to fight?" It will do us no good to educate ourselves on the battle if we see no reason for the fight. War is very controversial today in the physical realm. Those attitudes, beliefs and convictions will transfer over to the spiritual realm. However, in the spiritual realm, there is a battle going on regardless of our opinion. We are either victors or victims. Jesus has come and conquered. The war is already won in the heavens.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bernie Sanders' campaign said Wednesday that the Democratic presidential candidate had a heart procedure for a blocked artery and was canceling events and appearances "until further notice."
The 78-year-old Sanders was in Las Vegas when, according to a campaign statement, he experienced chest discomfort during a campaign event Tuesday and sought medical evaluation. Two stents were "successfully inserted" and that Sanders "is conversing and in good spirits," according to the campaign.
Sanders' wife, Jane O'Meara Sanders, was en route to Las Vegas on Wednesday and said in an email to The Associated Press that her husband was "doing really well."

At a moment when the country has never seemed angrier, two political commentators from opposite sides of the divide concurred recently on one point that was once nearly unthinkable: The country is on the verge of "civil war."
First came former U.S. attorney Joseph diGenova, a Fox News regular and ally of President Trump's. "We are in a civil war," he said. "The suggestion that there's ever going to be civil discourse in this country for the foreseeable future is over. . . . It's going to be total war."
The next day, Nicolle Wallace, a former Republican operative turned MSNBC commentator and Trump critic, played a clip of diGenova's commentary on her show and agreed with him — although she placed the blame squarely on the president.
Trump, she said, "greenlit a war in this country around race. And if you think about the most dangerous thing he's done, that might be it."
With the investigative report from special counsel Robert S. Mueller III said to be nearly complete, and with impeachment talk in the air and the 2020 presidential election campaign ramping up, fears that once existed only in fiction or in the fevered dreams of conspiracy theorists have become a regular part of the political debate. These days, there is talk of violence, mayhem and, increasingly, civil war.
A tumultuous couple of weeks in American politics seem to have raised the rhetorical flourishes to a new level and also brought a troubling question to the surface: At what point does all the alarmist talk of civil war actually increase the prospect of violence, riots or domestic terrorism?
Speaking to conservative pundit Laura Ingraham, diGenova summed up his best advice to friends: "I vote, and I buy guns. And that's what you should do."

President Donald Trump asked Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to "look into" former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, according to a White House memorandum of a July phone call released Wednesday.
"There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that, so whatever you can do with the attorney general would be great," Trump said in the July 25 call, according to the memo. "Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution, so if you can look into it, It sounds horrible to me."

St Greta of Thunberg – Patron Saint of the Age of Stupid – has made landfall in the New World, there to preach to the unbelievers her gospel of imminent climate doom.
"The war on nature must end," she has declared, to anyone who is listening.
Though St Greta has become a figure of huge influence in Europe – feted by Popes, presidents and prime ministers, lauded with uncritical coverage in the mainstream media, put forward for a Nobel Peace Prize – it seems likely that in the United States she will get a more mixed reception.
While the left will most certainly try to shoehorn her into their Green New Deal campaign, the right may be less convinced.
That's because, unlike a worrying number of their counterparts across the pond, U.S. conservatives understand St Greta's environmental scare narrative for what it is: a hoax. Especially, it's an anti-American hoax.
As Rupert Darwall describes in some detail in his book Green Tyranny (listen to the podcast interview here) the global warming scare was cooked up largely by European leftists (the Swedes and Germans being the worst offenders) with the purpose of destroying Western Industrial Civilization – U.S. Industrial Civilization in particular.

Thanks to the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), Amazon's federal tax responsibility is 21% (down from 35% in previous years). But with the help of tax breaks, according to corporate filings, Amazon won't be paying a dime to Uncle Sam despite posting more than $11.2 billion in profits in 2018.

As they investigate President Donald Trump, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee will hold their first official hearing in what they are calling an impeachment investigation.
Corey Lewandowski, Trump's outspoken, loyal former campaign manager, is scheduled to appear Tuesday to discuss the report by former special counsel Robert Mueller. But it's unlikely that Democrats will get much new information as they decide whether to draft articles of impeachment against the president.

In 1862, 38 men of the Dakota Native American tribe were hanged in what's been described as the largest mass execution in U.S. history. President Lincoln ordered the killings after the Santee Sioux uprising the previous summer left 490 white settlers dead.
Now, more than 150 years later, Lisa Yankton, a Minneapolis-based poet and member of the Dakota tribe, fears this history will be forgotten. So she's retelling it through her poetry. The Dakota people still recognize the hangings each year, but the event is seldom discussed in wider U.S. culture, she said. Even in Toronto, 15 people were wounded in shootings over the weekend. Over 350 people have been shot this year in the Canadian city which has gun control, no NRA, and none of the usual excuses. This tide of violence has received less media coverage because it challenges the false claim that, as a CNN op-ed once put it, mass shootings are a "white man's problem."

A red flag law is a gun violence prevention law that permits police or family members to petition a state court to order the temporary removal of firearms from a person who may present a danger to others or themselves. A judge makes the determination to issue the order based on statements and actions made by the gun owner in question. After a set time, the guns are returned to the person from whom they were seized unless another court hearing extends the period of confiscation. MILITARY scientists at the Pentagon are developing 'talking' lasers which can beam warnings straight into the enemy's head from hundreds of miles away.
Weapons researchers at the Department of Defense say the hi-tech weapon will be able to send brief messages - in the form of audible speech - across combat zones. The aircraft, ship and truck-mounted devices are being developed as part of a military initiative called the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate. The scientists plan to use a phenomenon of physics called the Laser-Induced Plasma formation to make the laser a reality.
First, they fire a powerful laser that creates a ball of plasma. Then, a second laser works to oscillate the plasma creating sound waves. These intense laser bursts can then perfectly mimic human language, chief scientist Dave Law told the Military Times.

CNN and MSNBC have said the word "racist" more than 630 times since Sunday, according to a tally conducted by Grabien Media, an online media production and news prep service.
The count, which doesn't include on-screen graphics commonly known as chyrons, comes two days after President Trump in a Sunday tweet said four Democratic congresswomen — all U.S. citizens and members of minority groups — should "go back" to their home countries.
Just one of the four Democrats was not born in the United States, and Trump's remarks have been called out as racist by much of the Democratic Party and a handful of Republicans.
The House is set to vote Tuesday evening on a resolution condemning Trump's comments.
The fight has also been covered extensively on cable news, with anchors and guests breathlessly going over the battle between the president and lawmakers in Congress.

Some, but not all, earthquakes are related to volcanoes. For example, most earthquakes are along the edges of tectonic plates. This is where most volcanoes are too. However, most earthquakes are caused by the interaction of the plates not the movement of magma. Most earthquakes directly beneath a volcano are caused by the movement of magma. The magma exerts pressure on the rocks until it cracks the rock. Then the magma squirts into the crack and starts building pressure again. Every time the rock cracks it makes a small earthquake. These earthquakes are usually too weak to be felt but can be detected and recorded by sensitive instruments. Once the plumbing system of the volcano is open and magma is flowing through it, constant earthquake waves, called harmonic tremor, are recorded (but not felt).

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday he was ordering the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw incentives for Nike building a manufacturing plant in the state.
Ducey made the announcement in a series of tweets after The Wall Street Journal reported that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick urged Nike to nix a USA-themed sneaker, which featured a Betsy Ross flag on the heel, over slavery connotations.

Children and teens in Vermont who claim to be transgender could soon be able to have taxpayer-funded sex reassignment surgeries without having to wait until they are 21. A new rule proposed at the end of May will allow children and teens covered by Medicaid and who have parental consent to begin sex reassignment surgeries at younger ages, said Nissa James, Department of Vermont Health Access policy director, reported the Burlington Free Press.
