Jon Lunceford and Tim Melton used to host a daily sports talk show called Jox Primetime on WJOX 94.5 in Birmingham, AL. Off the Record was a way for them to share stories off the air in a different way. Now it is their only way.
Conversations, deep discussions, real life stuff. This is non-scripted, real discussion between Jon, Tim and special guests who come in and out of the studio. They could talk about sports, politics, entertainment or any other aspect of life.
Jon and Tim talk a little bit about the Snyder Cut of Justice League which neither can find 4 hours to watch, then dive into a conversation about physical copies of media (actual discs for games, movies, etc.) vs. just owning them digitally or enjoying through a subscription service.
That leads into a long conversation about the current console war and where both stand when it comes to Microsoft vs. Sony vs. Nintendo.
Tim then asks Jon about his weekend habits in high school (which included a lot of video games).
Also, Tim says "Chicken Cordon Bleu" a lot.
Jon and Tim talk about their love of The Midnight, a synthwave band they discovered a few years ago, as they release their Halloween EP to all platforms and discuss how the band has helped shape their lives ever since.
Are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse? We probably aren't, but we like to think we are. We discuss what we would do if zombies took over one day.
Then we gush over our favorite band, The Midnight, and everything they have done to influence us as people, as artists, as radio personalities and how their entire brand, aesthetic and mindset is something we wish we could see more of in the world.
Plus, we talk about what it's like when we get hangry, where we spent most of our time in college and how Jon's wife is awesome for finally getting her hands on a PS5.
We did a podcast two weeks in a row, it's a miracle!
Tim asks whatever happened to Titanfall, a game Jon was high on before it came out in 2014, and that leads in to a conversation about the shooter genre in general and how consoles may never have another "revolutionary" first-person shooter game like Doom, Goldeneye or Halo.
That then leads into a conversation about G4TV - what we liked about it before and why we have incredibly low expectations for the upcoming revival of it or any other gaming-based TV channel moving forward.
Finally the discussion moves into movies and how the younger generation has kept movie theaters alive (pre-pandemic) and it's up to younger people to keep the arts alive as the world evolves around emerging technologies such as social media, crypto/NFT's and more.

We're back! And with it, we have seven months of pent up energy and aggression that has built up during the COVID-19 pandemic - we were both furloughed for different amounts of time, we've been without movies and the world has lost it's damn mind. With everything that has happened, we just couldn't go on without getting political.
Jon is kinda liberal. Tim is kinda conservative. And we try to have a civil conversation about how messed up the country is right now as we inch closer to the election.
Then we talk movies...or the lack thereof and how sad it makes us.

The new Jox: The Weekend style of show is a quick show, under 30 minutes that will feature commentary from Jon and Tim on sports and entertainment. The show will air Saturdays and Sundays on WJOX 94.5 with the podcast available at noon each Saturday.

A little something different this week as Tim and Jon have both been on vacations the last two weeks. Tim asked Jon to put together his Lunce's List of the five best conversations that the two of them had on Off the Record in the 2018.
0:25 - Introductions and #5 is a conversation they have about...conversations in Episode 14, and the lack of civil conversations in today's society.
11:12 - #4 goes to Episode 37 where Tim asked Jon what his dream job would be within radio.
17:06 - #3 continues the conversation about Jon's dream job in Episode 43 but dives deeper into radio and how many times stations miss out on "moments" because of being tied to one format. They also discuss how people like Clay Travis and Dave Portnoy have been so successful in their media brands.
23:45 - #2 takes place in Episode 44 after Jon went on TV to promote his non-profit. The conversation turns into fear and why people are so afraid of public speaking. They also discuss how people need fear in their lives.

When Jon first started in radio, his biggest fan was his dad and he always wanted to join Jon on the radio. Jon said no.

Jon and Tim are still recovering from their Postseason Party last night at Cahaba Brewing. They talk a little sports when it comes to the AAF and Hugh Freeze potentially coming back to the SEC.
Tim then asks if a college football version of House of Cards would be a good TV show. That then starts them talking about the final season of House of Cards not being very good.
Then the conversation turns into why Venom did so well at the box office and why the DCEU is so bad and what they can do to fix things while competing with the MCU. (spoiler: they probably can't).
Jon and Tim recap their Thanksgiving, which involved a lot of food, sleep, football and movies.

They also discuss whether they should turn the new Joker movie into more than just one film if it's good after the failure of the DCEU.
