As we celebrate ten years of God's faithfulness in this month of March at Elevate City Church, Pastor Kyle will lean in to share his reflections but also the faith it will take to believe God to do the impossible in this next decade.

Message Notes Demystify: Be Filled with the Holy Spirit Pastor Bethany Mills
You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it, and then missing out myself. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG
The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you. 2 Corinthians 13:14 MSG
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:2
✓ He’s unseen.
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29
✓ He’s unpredictable.
Jesus answered…“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
✓ He’s powerful.
"For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Acts 1:5-8
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6
…our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. 1 Thessalonians 1:5
…be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18
- Rest.
They were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name. Isaiah 63:14
- Focus and direction.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. Romans 8:26-27
- Freedom.
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. Romans 8:9
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
- Power.
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
- Ministry.
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Luke 4:18-19

Esau gave up his birthright for a cup of stew. He gave up the double portion of the inheritance for something that was meaningless and trivial.
When you hear this story you have to be thinking, "How ridiculous! Who would trade a double portion of the blessing from Issac that was given the inheritance of Abraham, for a bowl of soup?!" But we do it all the time in our resources, our words, our family and our church. So, how do we stop? Pastor Josh Mauney has some answers.
