In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, host Alex brings on Allie Olnowich a member of the Metropolitan Riveters of the Premier Hockey Federation. They discuss Allie’s slow burn success in ice hockey, her love of pickleball, and her desire to attend law school so she can advocate for professional athletes.

Allie’s hockey journey wasn’t typical, she didn’t thrill on the ice when she first started in college and didn’t get her first goal until her Sophomore season. She played with talented players who had a different skillset than her and learned that the only thing she could control was her effort and attitude. This served her well and she went on to play professional hockey as a practice squad player which she parlayed into a full-time roster spot.

Her talents don’t stop when she gets off the ice, Allie also has a goal to attend law school. She has applied and even been accepted to some schools. Not only does she want to be a good teammate on the ice, she wants to be able to step off the ice and advocate for her teammates through a legal capacity. When she isn’t practicing or studying, she bonds with her mother over a good game of pickleball.

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, host Alex brings on Natalie Allport, a former former Canadian national team snowboarder and lifelong entrepreneur. Natalie talks with Alex about how Action Sports transition athletes well into entrepreneurship and how Mindset and Fear played into her snowboarding career.

Natalie started slopestyle snowboarding at the relatively ripe old age of 13 years old when most kids start to feel fear creep into their lives. Her foray into action sports was not uncommon considering she grew up in Canada with a family that loved to ski. She made the Canadian Junior National Slopestyle Snowboard team and her identity was wrapped up in the sport. Fear did play a factor in her eventual retirement, but she knew she wanted to do more than snowboard and had a constantly curious mind.

While she always had an entrepreneurial flare, she was not always able to cultivate it during her snowboarding career unless she had time off due to injury. She understood the importance of visualization and mindset in her sport and she carried over skills like adaptability and relationship building from sports to the business world.

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, Alex discusses how to organize and categorize your goals based around your own life and work. How to goal set is something people are told they should innately know how to do, but that isn’t the case.

The point of proactively planning your goals is to take the stress off yourself. It doesn’t take the pressure off, because some good solid pressure is necessary for growth. But if this is giving you feelings of anxiety and overwhelm then perhaps you need to cut back on a few goals for now. Store them away for when you reach the other goals that you prioritized as the most important.

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, Alex shares her tips for setting goals and not waiting for the new year to get started. She discusses tiny habits and why it is important to start now when you have ambitious goals.

We are taught to create new habits and goals at the beginning of each new year. However, we can start on our goals whenever we want and the sooner the better. We don’t have to be tied to the standard 12 month calendar, but can create our schedules and timelines based on our own personal and work lives.

Big goals don’t get accomplished instantly. It takes tiny habits compounding over time to produce big results. Success isn’t a fan of instant gratification. You will always fall prey to the habits you create - both good and bad.

Learn how to strategically plan your goals so you are ahead of those around you when January 1st strikes. And remember, comparison is the thief of joy.

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, Alex brings on Liseli Sitali, the Founder and Host of In Her Corner. Liseli talks with Alex about Sports Marketing, Sports Broadcasting & Allyship in Sports along with how she has paved the way for other women in sports to earn positions of power within the sports industry.

Liseli mainly works in the United Kingdom, but has experience in sport all over the world. She was born in Zambia and went to school in South Africa in the aftermath of apartheid. Her love for sport was a form of escapism for her because she finally saw women that looked like her being represented in sport. This was during the rise of the Williams sisters in the tennis world.

She decided that sports was her industry and she particularly got into the sports marketing world and representation of athletes. Her work in sports marketing led her to the world of sports broadcasting where she consistently fought for equity and opportunity for women in sports to be represented on major broadcasting platforms.

Through her work with In Her Corner, she also teaches and educates on allyship and how others can uplift and support women and minorities in the sports industry. She has been through the trenches and has earned each of her achievements and has the receipts to prove it. It is not about giving something more to women and minorities, it is about allowing them to have the same opportunities and access that others are afforded in the sports industry

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, host Alex brings on Alyssa Barbieri, a sports journalist and podcast host. She is the Regional Editor of the NFL Wire sites and Managing Editor of Bears Wire along with being a co-host of the podcast Buffone 55. Alyssa talks with Alex about being a female sports journalist, her coverage of the NFL, and her love/hate relationship with the Chicago Bears.

Alyssa vividly remembers her first ever sporting event and her love for sport ignited there. She grew up a Chicago Bears fan and even wrote up box scores and an entire Chicago Bears newsletter when she was younger. She is now covering the NFL and Chicago Bears full time for the NFL Wire sites. While the sports industry is gaining more females, it is still difficult to get a foothold in the industry and there is implicit bias everywhere.

This episode shows there is not one ‘correct’ path to take to get a job in the sports industry. Every person’s path is different and just because you don’t get there when others have, doesn’t mean you should lose hope. Don’t measure your progress with someone else’s because your journey might look different.

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, host Alex discusses why it is important to set strategic goals that are daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. She also discusses how to write out your strategic goals by using daily, weekly, and monthly time blocking. Strategic goals are all about creating trackable metrics to keep you on point.

You must also have a goal assessment plan where you analyze the past week and plan for the week to come. By doing a weekly goal assessment, you can see whether you are taking tangible and aggressive steps toward your strategic goals. Are you being productive or just busy? You will accomplish what you set out to do if you utilize time blocking along with setting strategic goals while also doing a weekly goal assessment.

Hank Sinatra is a renaissance man and has held many titles in his life including biker, actor, cowboy, Vietnam Veteran, father, husband, and now he is an author. He went to university on the East Coast before leaving to serve his country in the Vietnam War. When he returned to the United States he held a variety of jobs, and had crazy experiences including riding in a biker gang, cowboying in Montana, and living with Native Americans on their land.

He decided to go back to university in his 50s and graduate before his young daughter. He accomplished that goal and received a degree in English with a creative writing concentration, further adding to his 'Renaissance Man' status. He loved expressing himself both as an actor and as a writer, but had never written a full-length novel. Hank began writing about his Italian and Sicilian heritage and "The Bone-Handled Stiletto" was born. It's a novel of fiction, but has historical elements which add context for the time period, along with information on how organized crime gained a foothold in the US. It follows two Sicilian families who have the same patriarch. The patriarch fathered two sons, one inside his marriage and one outside his marriage. The two boys grow up in the streets of Little Italy in Newark, New Jersey and experience Organized Crime both from the inside and the outside. One half-brother is a cop and one is a gangster, but they are unaware of their relation. Some have said this book reads like a series or movie on Netflix about the ins and outs of organized crime during the era when the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) was passed. It is full of suspense, intrigue, and of course the Organized Crime syndicates living on the East Coast.

Hank is currently finishing his second novel and is looking for both a literary agent and publishing house to take his second novel to the masses.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Lisa Napoli has lived in Los Angeles since 2004, where there’s hardly been a dull moment.

In over three decades as a journalist, she’s covered presidential campaigns, a hostage standoff, an outdoor hacker convention and the culture of technology, all at a wide variety of news outlets (some which no longer exist) including the New York Times, CyberTimes, MSNBC, and the public radio show Marketplace. For five years, she also covered arts and culture at KCRW.

Her first book, Radio Shangri-La, is about the impact of media culture on the mysterious Kingdom of Bhutan, where she was invited to help start a radio station at the dawn of democratic rule. Her second book is titled Ray & Joan, about the late philanthropist Joan Kroc and her husband, the irascible founding chairman of the McDonald’s corporation.

Lisa’s latest book, Up All Night, has just been released. She’s at work on a new one about another slice of American media history, the creation of NPR through the lens of the four “founding mothers” of the network.

A graduate of Hampshire College, Lisa led an award-winning volunteer cooking group at the Downtown Women’s Center on Skid Row in Los Angeles for over five years. She’s also the founding board president of the Bhutan Media Service, an all-volunteer news outlet created by Bhutanese refugees in the diaspora.

Jamie Jackson Spannhake is an author, an attorney, and a wellness guru. After pursuing an acting career in her early 20s, Jamie decided to change her life dramatically and attend law school. She graduated magna cum laude and received a job offer from a large law firm in Manhattan. She went in full force and it was great … for about six months, but realized the values in the Big Law firm were not hers.

She continued to pursue the law, but realized she hadn’t determined her values and what was important to her before she started. That was when she started thinking about writing a book – to help other lawyers avoid the mistakes she had made.

Her book, The Lawyer, the Lion, & the Laundry, outlines what she learned and practiced on her journey to enjoy life. She became certified as a health coach in 2006 and researched, read books and articles, attended workshops, and talked to people about what worked for them. She tried different tools and techniques over 10 years, experimenting in her own life.

With what she has learned and practiced, she is able to enjoy her life in spite of her numerous responsibilities and activities. She has a wonderful and happy ten-year-old daughter along with two dogs, two cats, a law practice, a freelance writing career, and is partially responsible for her aging parents. Even with these responsibilities, she still has time to regularly practice yoga and meditation, play tennis, and run each week.
