After leaving Parliament in 2010 Martin Salter took a sabbatical in Australia, where he produced an influential report entitled 'Keep Australia Fishing'. In 2011 Salter took a part-time position with the Angling Trust as its National Campaigns Coordinator, and currently serves as the Trust's Chief Policy Advisor. He maintains a blog on the Trust website called Fighting For Fishing, devoted to the preservation of angling interests and fish habitat conservation in the UK and worldwide.

Keith welcomes his old mucker Steve Cook into the Strange Boat to discuss all things angling including Fish'O'Mania and the changes in the sport over the last few years. Steve hails from Retford in Notts, won his first fishing match whilst still in infants school and is still a regular winner today, almost fifty years down the line. A regular qualifier for the highly prestigious Fish’O’Mania event, Steve was champion in the never-to-be-forgotten 1999 edition and also a regular co-commentator in the final. As a life-long angler, Viv Shears can be found fishing for a huge variety of fish species from crucians in Surrey, bass along the South Coast to monster halibut in the fjords of Northern Norway. For him now variety has certainly become the spice of life in terms of his angling... and of course carp farming!

After graduating from Sparsholt College in 1995 Viv moved into fisheries management as Fisheries Manager with RMC Angling where he created and stocked many well-known fisheries during his five years there. In 2004, he returned to Sparsholt where he lectured for 11 years on fisheries management, practical fisheries construction and fish farming. During his 25 years in fisheries work he has carried out numerous consultancy projects with customers across the UK and Europe where he advises on all aspects of fisheries development and management. Having run numerous fisheries his understanding of practical fishery development means he can advise customers on realistic stocking plans along with sound technical knowledge.

Steve Cullen has spent the last 17 years within the fly fishing industry, as a journalist, photographer, brand manager, product developer, and content specialist. Brought up in the Scottish Borders and Steve had access to some wonderful wild trout and grayling fishing on both the world-famous River Tweed and its largest tributary, the Teviot.

He’s fished extensively throughout Europe searching out specimen trout and grayling. He’s also visited many other destinations around the World, including the warm-water havens of Mexico, Cuba – where he got achieved a ‘Grand Slam’.

After working as editor Total FlyFisher, he moved on to become the Brand Manager at Wychwood Game Fishing. Steve is a multi-capped England International (despite being Scottish) representing England at all levels of competition, from international to World events. He’s been been the English National Champion, winner of the Graham Trophy, part of the gold medal-winning team at the inaugural 5 Nations Tournament, and also a team member of the Osprey Fishing team that won the prestigious Lexus Fly Fishing Championships.

Emma Harrison is a remarkable young woman, fishing since she was very young, she's become the inspiration behind the Angling Trust's We Fish As One campaign. She's a mother of two and is getting her kids into fishing too but she was prompted to write a blog detailing the mysogonistic attitude of some men from the fishing world and the lack of female facilities at some fishing venues. Emma is really making a difference, dragging angling into the 21st century. But Emma's main passion is the sport itself and the complete enjoyment she gets from fishing.

Keith sets sail with Dave Barham who’s been involved in magazine publishing for over 27 years, a great deal of which was spent on sea fishing magazines. He’s presented numerous television shows, including 'Boat Fishing With Barham' and he was also the co-presenter on 'The Fishing TV Show' on BT Sport. He also launched his own range of fishing rods - the ‘Dave Barham Signature Series’. He and Keith hadn’t met up for over 20 years when they boarded the Strange Boat.
