The American Minutemen were crucial to the defense and preservation of early America and were often times the sole protectors for the communities they belonged to. The early minutemen were coordinated, disciplined, physically fit, well trained, highly mobile, and could deploy within 60 seconds of being alerted. They embodied true personal responsibility and maintained a culture of preparation and readiness understanding that the freedoms they enjoyed were not guaranteed.
Today our freedoms, values, and societies are being continually attacked and degraded. We believe that bringing back the culture of the Minutemen may be necessary to stand against this degradation and to prepare for the possible need to defend our families and the communities we live in.
Looking back at those who came long before us as an example, we believe it is necessary to adopt and embody that same culture to better preserve our freedoms. We believe in protecting our inalienable human rights as well as our American constitutional rights and believe they are applicable to every person equally. Furthermore, we believe in the value and importance of the Second Amendment and believe that every able-bodied American should be responsible practitioners of this Amendment bearing modern arms and equipment with the willingness to stand up against evil to preserve the freedoms we hold dear.
Working to maintain and defend these values we believe in helping to reinforce individual responsibility through education, knowledge, and advice. Helping to inspire and build up a culture of disciplined readiness and coordinated community capable of responding to natural, foreign, and domestic threats within a minutes notice. In this Podcast, we discuss the reality of what it means to be a modern day minuteman and try to provide educational guidance on a variety of topics that tie into that responsibility.
This is the Minutemen Initiative
There is so much instability and uncertainty in our world today, and it is important to do our best to stay informed and aware of what is going on. Although most global issues are well beyond our control and some don't have a direct impact on our local communities, it is critical that we acknowledge the big picture and prepare for downhill effects. On top of these global and geopolitical issues there are numerous issues that are more immediate for us here in America.
In this episode Stephen and Jacob break down a general overview of what is going on globally and nationally what should be researched in an effort to better prepare for negative local influence. Between foreign wars, global power posturing, and national security concerns, there is a lot that the modern minuteman should be paying attention to for overall preparedness.

HE IS RISEN!
Easter is a time of year that many people celebrate and recognize, but what is the true reason behind this? Between the signs of spring, bunny rabbits, and easter eggs it can be difficult to see where the true significance is. It is important to highlight and discuss the true reason to celebrate Easter and that is the death and resurection of Jesus Christ.
In this episode, Stephen sits down with Jacob to discuss the facts about the death and resurection of Jesus Christ and how it is the true reason to celebrate Easter. This is a very different episode than what is become expected on this show, but Stephen and Jacob both felt it very necessary to share the truth of the gospel and deeply discuss the varifiable truths of the Bible. We ask that regardless of your background you give this episode a listen and consider the topics and perspectives that are shared in it.
CORRECTIONS
@min-17:45 While explaining the diety of Jesus Christ, Jacob intended to reference the heresy known as "Arianism" but accidently said "Arminianism". To clarify, Arminianism is not a heresy, but is a protestant theological prospective. Arianism (the intended reference) is a heretical perspective that denies the eternal diety of Jesus Christ and claims He was created.

We often talk about being prepared from more traditional perspectives; self-defense, medical, logistics, or sustainment but theres a whole spectrum of threats that aren't often discussed. Electromagnetic threats can cause a whole slew of issues and can render our world as we know it radically changed within a moment. Being more educated on the effects of such threats is very important and it is something that should start to take more notice.
In this episode of the Minutemen Initiative Jacob and Stephen have the opportunity to sit down with David Nussbaum who works for Dynamic Defense Solutions as a trainer and instructor. David has become very knowledgable in the area of electromagnetic threats and in this episode he breaks down some of the specifcs and details that are important to know when building a higher level of understanding.

In the preparedness and armed readiness communities, we have seen widespread focus surrounding infantry tactics and conventional fighting doctrines. This has led to the many community leaders making reading and resource recomendations. US Army books and field manuals like the Ranger Handbook and FM 7-8 have become popular and are often among reading lists and recomendations for research and reference. This is great, but these books are intended for a very specific military audience and while they are full of fantastic information, it can be very difficult to navigate the nuance and translate the jargon.
This episode is the first in a series of episodes where Stephen and Jacob will break down and explain US Army "Battle Drills" found in Field Manual 3-21.8 (7-8). This first episode in the series gets into the history of battle drills and outlines the important combat lessons learned throughout US conflicts. This series seeks to provide a more detailed explaination of Battle Drills and wade through some of the obscure information and bridge the gap between US military fundamentals and the modern minuteman.

After the historic assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, questionable details sourrounding the situation and security failures became immediately apparent. What at this point seems to be a completely avoidable tragedy has led to several injured including Donald Trump as well as an innocent bystander being killed. There are many questions and very little answers surrounding what took place July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania, but it is clear that this shouldn't have been able to happen.
In this episode, Jacob and Stephen breakdown the situation from start to finish and provide some of their own opinions on what they think took place. Neither Jacob or Stephen have any professional PSD background experience but bring their critiques from a position of basic tactics / security doctrine based on their former militray experience. They also approach this breakdown from a position of simple common sense which everyone has a right to apply when discussing a past situation. Common sense alone if applied would have prevented this whole terrible event.

Its more important now than ever for men to step into their roles as responsible protectors, providers, and leaders. Modern society tries to tear men down and undermine them, but this should be countered by strong men who are willing to stand up for what is right and live a more selfless life. Being a strong, disciplened, and unwaivering man is essential for having success in any other aspect of the modern minuteman mission.
In this episode, Jacob and Stephen get the special opportunity to sit down with their Father, Michael Barlow to discuss what it means to be a good man as well has a husband and father. This episode is very different than others, but highlights the importance of starting with the right foundation and being what is needed in a society that is so lost and confused.
We are all professing christians so please understand that much of the advice given here will be from a biblical perspective. Even if you are not a religious person we still encourage you to listen to this episode as there is a lot of rish and valuable life advice in it.

With fragile supply chains, weakened infrastructure, and economic inflation understanding how to practice self-sustainability with food is vital. Being educated and willing to practice individual food sustainability is one of the singular most important aspects to overall readiness and preparedness. The modern minuteman is a concept that is always evolving and ever changing. With modern technologies and new warfighting doctrines, the effective skillsets of the modern minuteman has changed expanded. From precision marksmanship, to software defined radio, all the way to positive identification in various spectrums, the Modern minuteman focus might need to lean into a "Light Fighter" small unit concept.
In this episode Jacob and Stephen sit down with Chris Rance and Chris Roberts of CR2 Shooting Solutions to break down the "Light Fighter Concept" as well as some of the training they offer surrounding that concept. Chris Rance and Chris Roberts are both US Army sniper community experts and offer very valuable experience based perspective.

The Ukraine and Russian conflict has been ongoing and continues to change and evolve offering valuable insight into what modern conflicts look like. Reguardless of what you personal opinions on the Ukraine/Russuia war are, there are still valuable lessons that the modern minuteman can learn.
In this episode Jacob and Stephen break down a recent Garand Thumb video that featured individuals that have first hand experience fighting in Ukraine. The video was full of good experience based information and illuminated many key points that aid in understanding what combat in the modern day battlespace looks like. We recomend pairing this podcast episode with Garand Thumb's video and encourage you to watch it either before or after listening to this episode!

Being a true "modern minuteman" and an asset to your community requires commitment and discipline. Physical performance and fitness should be at the pinnacle of that commitment. Being disciplined and responsible for your own fitness requires a fundamental knowledge of your own body and what it needs. Understanding how to train efficiently as well as avoid injury are vital to overall fitness success.
In this episode Dynamic Defense Solutions founders (Stephen and Jacob) are joined by Sam Wood of DAGR Management to discuss fitness and the importance of being able to physically perform at a high level. This episode breaks down fundamental physiological information that is important to better understand how to maintain a high level of fitness. Sam also talks about how to mitigate and avoid injury as well as how to work around injuries. This episode is considered a "part two" to the earlier episode with Sam ("Operational Fitness").

America has suffered consistent and regular moral injury over the last several years. This degrading and chipping away has exponentially increased in recent years. There is undeniably a cultural war being waged not just in America and within western societies, but worldwide as well. This is a cultural war that includes physical and spiritual consequences and requires good men and women to take responsibility and put forth intentional effort to stand against evil and raise future generations of morally upright individuals.
Jacob and Stephen sit down with Joshua Scilzo, founder of Cold Frontier Training & Tactics to talk about the importance of individual responsibility, and the value of the traditional family. They also discuss how to be more proactive within local community and the importance of joining the fight to stand against cultural evils that seek to destroy what is good.

One of the main disadvantages of the modern minuteman team is its small size relative to a more conventional fighting force. This necessitaites a strong understanding of small unit tactics and missions that compliment a small unit well, one such mission is reconnaissance. Being able to effectively perform recon operations is not only a great way to maintain situational awarness for your community, but it is also a manageable skill for small sized teams / units.
In this episode, Stephen and Jacob reintroduce the reconnaissance mission and break down one of its sub-disciplines (civil reconnaissance). Civil Reconnaissance skills step away from a more conventional combatant recon mission and require a more covert and clandestine approach. These skills are paramount to the modern minuteman and should be prioritized well before the need for more convential methods.
This is part of a multipart series on reconnaissance. Check out Rural Reconnaissance, Urban Reconnaissance, Vehicular Reconnaissance, and Reconnaissance basics Part 1 & Part 2 to get a broader intro to this topic.

After Actions Reviews are used to recall, process, and de-brief a situation that happened, why it happened, and if it could've been handled better/differently. This process can enable better understanding overall, can help those who experienced the situation, and can help others who may find themselves in similar situations in the furture. On the "Minutemen Initiative" we use the After Actions Review to allow someone to share a life experience that others could learn from.
In this "After Actions Review" Jacob and Stephen sit down with MooseRider6 to discuss a wild and life-threatening experience in the backcountry mountains of Alaska. What started out as a fun multi-day backcountry adventure with his fiancee quickly turned into one of the most grueling and difficult experiences they had ever been through. This story highlights the importance of planning, decision making, and how small factors can add up to a create life-threatening situation.
We believe there is great value and benefit in listening and learning from others experiences and hearing what they learned from it.

Modern minutemen who are located in northern climates that are affected by extreme cold and significant snow fall have far more warfare considerations than the average minuteman. Everthing from layering systems and specialized mobility equipment to cold weather injuries and shelters, having a high level of understanding and training is paramount for true operational readiness in these regions.
In this episodes Jacob and Stephen sit down with MooseRider6 to discuss cold climate warfare and many of the unique considerations that go with that. MooseRider is a former US Army Infantry officer that specialzed in cold weather warfare serving in the Alaska area. The combined sub-arctic region military experience between both "MooseRider" and Jacob makes for a very valuable conversation that anyone in any region can learn from.

One of the main disadvantages of the modern minuteman team is its small size relative to a more conventional fighting force. This necessitaites a strong understanding of small unit tactics and missions that compliment a small unit well, one such mission is reconnaissance. Being able to effectivley perform recon operations is not only a great way to maintain situational awarness for your community, but it is also a manageable skill for small sized teams / units.
In this episode, Stephen and Jacob reintroduce the reconnaissance mission and break down one of its sub-disciplines (rural setting reconnaissance). Stephen spent several years working in a combat reconnaisance unit while serving in the US Army and brings vast experience and knowledge to this discussion.
This is part of a multipart series on reconnaissance. Check out Reconnaissance basics Part 1 & Part 2 to get a broader intro to this topic.

Following up our last episode (w/ Brad Dennis) discussing the reality of human trafficking, In this episode we disuss some of the problems with human trafficking and specifically problems with the law. With the federal law being only recently updated (2020) many states are nowhere near where they need to be in order to effectively fight the crime of human trafficking. Our home State of Alaska has serious problems with these crimes and is currently ranked number 1 in the nation for having the most sexual assualt and sex trafficking.
In this episode Stephen and Jacob sit down with Alaska State House Representative Sarah Vance to discuss the major issues Alaska faces with Human Trafficking and other sexual crimes, and the problems with the existing laws. Rep. Sarah Vance also breaks down House Bill 68 and explains how it would be a major improvement over existing "lackluster" and anemic State laws.

The "Modern Minuteman" has a responsibilty to become educated, pursue training, coordinate with community members, and prepare for threats and situations where their families and communities' may need them. In the reality of the world we live in today there are threats that exist within the very communities' we "prepare" to "protect". The responsibility of the "modern minuteman" is to be equipped and prepared to rapidly respond to protect their community from any dangers that threated that community's well-being. The declination and erosion of our society's moral priciples has led to the advancement of human trafficking which is a direct threat to our families and our communities'.
In this episode Stephen and Jacob sit down with Brad Dennis of Called 2 Rescue Ministries and The Shepherds to discuss the reality of the missing persons epidemic, human trafficking, and sexual predators and sexual explotation. This evil reality is a direct threat to our society and to our women and children. Please listen carefully and dig deeper into this topic. This episode is one of many that we plan to do to help illuminate and educate on this very important issue

The sniper has been a pivital asset within militaries, paramilitaries, and special units since the rifle was invented. Being an effective sniper takes in-depth and special skills / discipline. Some basic and fundamental sniper skills can be very valuable to understand and should be studied. The modern minuteman may have to adapt the practice of these skills and will likley have to learn more asymetric fighting tactics verses more traditional or conventional tactics.
In this episode, Jacob and Stephen of Dynamic Defense Solutions sit down with Luke (aka Skullduggerous_pirate)to discuss basic sniper skills and disciplines. Luke is a Sniper school house instructor for the US Army and has a long career as a sniper in the military, as well as law enforcment, and as a private security contractor.

Being a true "modern minuteman" and an asset to your community takes commitment and discipline. Physical performace and fitness should be at the pinacle of that commitment. Physical fitness is often forgotten or abandoned altogether in pursiut of easier of more "entertaining" disciplines. As a true practitioner of the second amendment and a modern minuteman, fitness should be the foundation everything else is built on.
In this episode Dynamic Defense Solutions founders (Stephen and Jacob) are joined by Sam Wood of DAGR Managment to discuss operational fitness and the importance of being able to physically perfom at a high level. In today's world immediately available food is no longer a guarantee. With fragile supply chains, weakened infrastructure, and economic inflation understanding how to practice self-sustainability with food is vital. Being educated and willing to practice individual food sustainability is one of the singular most important aspects to overall readiness and preparedness.
In this episode, agricultural and food security expert Jeremy Flynn shares his knowledge and expertise surrounding the basics of food grown from natural systems and resources. Jeremy breaks down everything from how to prepare land for growth, compost basics, nutrience packed soil, and how to maintain your plants. With the world getting darker and society devolving further into the beginings of potential madness, the gun community needs to stop bickering and try to come together.
On the tails of the most recent trivial "gunstagram" drama, Stephen and Jacob have a VERY candid discussion about thier thoughts and opinions on the curent state of "gun culture"and how to improve it.
The MK12 / Special Purpose Rifle was instrumental to the development of most modern accurized AR pattern rifles. What many now call the "SPR" or "RECCE Rifle" comes from a long lineage of research and development within the US Special Operations community. The MK12 has a rich history and helped to progress the AR15 into what is it today.
In this episode we are joined by "Brown Rocket Actual" to discuss the history and concepts behind the MK12 SPR, and how it is still a viable platform today. The MK12 concept is also very cohesive with the "modern minuteman" mission and mentality.

The sniper has been a pivital asset within militaries, paramilitaries, and special units since the rifle was invented. Special teams centered around the use of snipers are used to great effect in a variety of situations. These teams can collect intell, perform reconnaissance operations, coordinate fire missions, perform overwatch duties, and can precisely eliminate targets. Sniper Cells can offer valuable overall support with very limited numbers and resources.
In this episode we break down how the sniper cell structure and role can be very applicable to the modern minutemen mission and could be a viable option for teams that are smaller with only 2 or 3 members.
Understanding how and why conventional fighting forces structure platoons, squads, and teams can help when developing an effective group of modern minutemen. This knowledge is also beneficial for understanding how conventional forces operate.
In this episode Stephen and Jacob break down how the US Army structures infantry platoons, squads, and teams and the individual roles within. They also get into how this structure and these positions can be applied to groups / teams created by responsible citizens.
In light of the new ruling from the ATF on "stabilizing braces", Dynamic Defense Solutions founders Jacob and Stephen sit down with good friend Ed to break down and discuss 2021R-08F as well as the dangerous precedent it sets in the next step towards tyranny.

In this "After Actions Review" Jacob and Stephen sit down with David Barlow to discuss a wild and life-threatening experince in the backcountry mountains of Alaska. What started out as a fun backcountry snowmobile and snowboarding trip quickly turned into a life or death race against time and surviving harsh winter enviromental hazards.

In this episode, Jacob and Stephen sit down with Ed to discuss the basics of layering and how proper layering can protect you from harsh enviroments.
Educational Details on Layering:
Base Layer - Broken down into 2 categories Synthetic and Natural (and blend) Insulation Layer - The insulation layer can be broken down into many different layers and multiple insulation layers can be worn at the same time Shell Layer - For Rain/Snow/Wind
BASE LAYER:
The base layer is a very important layer in this process. The reason for a base layer is to remove moisture from your skin and transport away from your body for evaporation. Due to this process the fabric needs to be in contact with the skin. The more contact the better (think skintight). This process is best demonstrated by the feeling you get when you step out of the shower. The water is evaporating off your skin and taking your body heat with it. However, if we use this base layer to transport the moisture (sweat) off the skin it will then evaporate off the fabric. There are two categories of base layers Synthetic and Natural. Just like anything in life, there are pros and cons of each. (There are blends of synthetic and natural that try to give you the best of both worlds)
Light (125-200 grams)
Mid (200-300 grams)
Heavy (300+ grams)
Examples:
The Army has used the ECWCS (Extended/Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System) for several years and multiple generations have been made. The newest generation features 7 different layer options. The Base layer has two options level 1 Silk weight and level 2 Heavy weight. These are often found in surplus and usually inexpensive.
Varusteleka makes a light and heavy weight layers Any of the quality hunting brands (Sitka Gear, Kuiu, UnderArmor, etc.) Other outdoor brands (Outdoor Research, Arcteryx, etc.)
INSULATION LAYER:
The Insulation Layer works by trapping pockets of air next to your body. Air is a poor conductor of heat and therefore ideal, specially because air is very lightweight. The air contained in this area will block heat from escaping.
Examples:
Polar Fleece
Polar fleece is probably what comes to mind when hear “fleece”. It is used as an umbrella. It is made in varying weights and is commonly used in colder climates. It dries quickly and does not get saturated with water. It is common to see Windproof Fleece, and some also have DWR finish for water repellency.
Micro Fleece
Micro Fleece is as the name implies. It is more light weight and is therefore more breathable than polar fleece. Though that does mean it gives up some insulating value.
Stretch Fleece
Stretch Fleece is common in active wear like gym clothes. It isn’t, generally, something we would buy a whole jacket or pants in. However, companies often sew some panels of this onto other clothes for articulation.
Down Vs Synthetic
Down and Synthetic down are popular insulation materials. Both are warm, light, and often pack down very small. There are some significant tradeoffs between the two.
Down
Real goose down holds the most warmth per weight
More packable Doesn’t perform well when wet Not as Breathable
Synthetics Maintains loft when wet Regulates temperature better Cheaper than down
SHELL LAYER:
The Shell Layer provides us with a barrier for harsh weather. These fabrics are often wind and waterproof. Goretex is the most common fabric used for a shell. Goretex is a laminate waterproof yet microporous membrane. It is very thin, and the idea is, it will let water vapor out while not allowing water to get in. Not all Goretex is made the same. These fabrics are usually categorized by the number of layers used.
Examples
2L
Uses a two-layer sandwich of face fabric with the GORE membrane laminated to it on the inside plus a non-laminated lining layer — often mesh, nylon or microfiber that serves to protect the GORE membrane and create a comfortable feel inside the jacket. GORE-TEX 2L can be paired with insulation and is generally warmer, heavier, and less expensive than 3L or 2.5L versions.
2.5L
Uses a two-layer sandwich of a face fabric with the GORE membrane laminated to it plus a spray-on or printed backer on the inside. This “half layer” on the inside appears almost unnoticeable but adds durability to the membrane. 2.5L GORE-TEX is the lightest of the three
traditional GORE waterproof, breathable constructions.
3L
Uses a full three-layer sandwich of a face fabric+membrane+knit backer — all laminated together. GORE-TEX 3L construction is the classic unlined, uninsulated, high performance shell design. Despite its three-layer name, it feels like a single layer. It’s the most durable of the three
constructions and is lighter than 2L.
There are a couple others that pop up Gore Pro and Gore Infinium. Gore Pro is more durable than the 3L. Gore Pro is broken into categories itself; Rugged, Stretch, and Breathable. Summed up Gore Pro is set to have more stretch and be more breathable than normal Goretex. Gore Infinium is a windstopper fabric that is only water resistant but is highly breathable.
