This past fall, there were just two boys high school athletic teams in the MetroWest and Milford area that won state championships. The Lincoln-Sudbury golf team was one of them. They beat every team in Division 1 at The Haven Country Club in Boylston.

The Daily News recently hosted its 20th annual hockey tournament called the Daily News Cup as the Hopkinton boys hockey team won the four-team tournament.
So five Hillers joined Daily News senior multimedia journalist Tommy Cassell on his 100th episode of the Cassell's Corner podcast.
Seniors Sean Walsh, Kyle Rogers, Drew Saporoschetz and Tommy Hamblet, and freshman Pavit Mehra came into the studio to talk about beating Hudson and Algonquin by a combined goal-differential of 13-3 in the two-game tourney.
The five hockey players talked puck, making it to a state championship game at TD Garden last year, high school and post-high school choices and germs before playing a little hockey trivia.

Kyle (16) and Marcus (14) Ando, of Marlborough, are a sophomore and freshman, respectively, at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Their father, Yoshitaka Ando, recently died from cancer on Dec. 3, just three days before the two boys went to the a Division 2 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium with the L-S football team. In this audio clip, Kyle and Marcus go back and forth talking about their father, who was the L-S athletic trainer, and what he meant to them.
The Lincoln-Sudbury football team joined Tommy Cassell's on Cassell's Corner podcast to talk about winning a Dual County League Large division title while also going over the Warriors' first season with a new coach in nearly five decades.
Three seniors in Andrew Cahill, Ben Ohler and Finn Garrity, along with juniors Will Ohler and Jack Malone sang "Take Me Home, Country Roads" on the podcast while also doing some football drills on the Daily News lawn.
The quartet of Warriors also talked baseball, lacrosse and shouted out some of their friends.

Five Clockers joined Cassell's Corner podcast a week after Ashland football beat Holliston for the first time since 2001 to secure a Tri-Valley League Large title for the Clockers.
Five seniors in Dom Cavanagh, Jake Latessa, Brandon Grover, Kevin Russell and Dom Massauro played some football on the Daily News lawn before sitting down in Cassell's Corner (with balloons) and barking to start the podcast.
Ashland football barks twice after ever win. The Clockers then talked all things football, sports and cancer before class president Groover took over as proxy of the podcast.

Three members of the Wayland High School field hockey team joined Cassell's Corner podcast.
And all three were boys.
Wayland seniors Aiden Chitkara, Ethan Betancourt, and Zeke Betancourt joined Tommy to talk all things field hockey.
The trio of Warriors also discussed the decision, reactions from others, difference between boys and girls sports, and goal celebration. They even talked about whether or not they'd wear the skirts.

Three Hopkinton siblings in Ben Powers, Garrett Powers and Kate Powers joined host Tommy Cassell on the Cassell's Corner podcast to talk about the trio all receiving Tri-Valley League All-Star honors for outdoor track this past spring.
Ben and Garrett are 18 and twins. Garrett is older by 30 minutes. Kate is the younger sister and is 14 years old. All three participated on the Hillers' outdoor track team doing field events. Kate and Garrett threw discus while Ben tossed the javelin.
The siblings talked all things track before diving into their other athletic endeavors. Tommy then had Kate play a trivia game about which brother she knew better.

The Daily News held its annual awards ceremony after the school year and honored All-Stars from all three of its sports seasons. The Daily News also bestowed the award for Female and Male Athlete of the Year.
And those two winners recently joined host Tommy Cassell on this episode of the Cassell's Corner podcast.
Natick's Grace Connolly and Wayland's Nick Smith were named the Female Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year, respectively, and talked about what that honor meant to them with Tommy.
The two gifted athletes talked all things sports, and the college recruiting process, as Grace will run cross country and track at Stanford University while Nick will swim at Middlebury College.
Oh, and the two student-athletes are pretty smart as well. So Tommy ended the podcast with some competitive pop culture trivia.

The Hudson softball team won a Division 2 state championship. So naturally, the Hawks came into the studio for an episode of Cassell's Corner podcast to talk about it.
Seniors Sophia Togneri, Natalie Bishop and Emily White, and coach Laura Bowen -- a Hudson High grad herself -- joined host Tommy Cassell to talk things all state title. Then, the three Hawks and their coach opened up about superstitions, traditions, saving woodchucks and taking faceplants.
At the end of the podcast, the trio of Hawks and their coach played the Cassell version of "The Dating Game" which resulted in some spilled water and a few laughs.

The Division 3 state champion Dover-Sherborn boys lacrosse team joined Cassell's Corner podcast and host Tommy Cassell to talk about winning a state title.
Three seniors in Cam Raycroft, Matt Paolatto and Henry Kenney, and junior Matt Gallitano joined Tommy in studio after doing some faceoffs on the Daily News lawn. The quartet of Raiders opened up about their warm-up song, drank water out of tea mugs, talked all things lax and then take over the final section of the podcast.

The Hopkinton girls lacrosse team has had fun both on and off the field this season. On the field, the Hillers went 12-6 in the regular season and beat Bishop Feehan in the first round of the playoffs.
Off the field, Hopkinton do a raffle drawing to raise funds for the team during each day of the month of May. Needless to say, the Hillers had fun with the raffle.
So on Sunday, five players of the team joined host Tommy Cassell to tape the podcast. The five Hillers played some lax outside and even sang the national anthem before the podcast, before talking all things lacrosse and sports with Tommy.
To wrap up the podcast, the quintet of Hillers took over the microphone and played a game.
Five members of the Franklin baseball team in senior captains Alex Haba, Jake Macchi and Scott Elliott, and juniors Will Pacheco and Jack Nally, joined host Tommy Cassell on the podcast to talk about the Panthers winning the 13th annual Rich Pedroli Memorial Daily News Classic.
The quintet of Panthers did a little impromptu Home Run Derby out on the Daily News lawn before coming into the podcast studio. To start off the podcast, Nally did his best Freddie Mercury impression by singing "Another One Bites The Dust" with the help of his teammates.
Tommy chatted with the baseball players about winning the Daily News' tournament and winning a Super 8 championship last year before dissecting the dugout chatter for Franklin.

When it comes to Marathon Monday in Boston, no one does it better than the Rabidou family. This past April, the two youngest siblings of the four Rabidous from Ashland ran in the Boston Marathon. And for a few good reasons.
Kevin and Spencer Rabidou both ran to honor loved ones who have recently died. Meanwhile, their older sister, Devan, and older brother, Trevor, both watched on the sidelines of the Boston Marathon as the two breezed by their Ashland home en route to the finish line.
The four siblings visited with host Tommy Cassell to talk Marathon Monday, coaching, Ashland High vs. Marian High and even talked about delivering a baby. At the end, the four competitive siblings played a trivia game.

The back-to-back state champions from Wellesley girls hockey hopped into the Daily News podcast studio to talk to host Tommy Cassell.
The quartet of Raiders included senior captains Isabelle Kressy, Grace Dore, junior Emily Rourke and freshman Lulu Rourke. The four hockey stars talked about winning two straight Division 2 state titles at TD Garden, superstitions, music and senior superlatives.

The three captains of the Dover-Sherborn boys basketball team brought in their Division 3 state championship trophy and medals to see Tommy as they taped this show. Five Wayland High wrestlers in senior captains Brooks Jones and Erik Sweeney, and juniors Cameron Jones, George Natsis and CJ Brown join host to talk about Wayland winning the Warrior Cup over rival Lincoln-Sudbury and much more about the wrestling program. The five Warriors began the podcast by singing the song they listen to before every home match and ended the podcast with an impromptu promposal, which is when people ask other people to junior prom, by Brown.

After beating Hudson in the semifinals of the Daily News Cup, the Tomahawks defeated Hopkinton in a rematch of the previous finals. Four Algonquin players in senior captain Nolan Kimball, juniors Matt Bogdanski and Henry Alford, and sophomore Henry Antino talked all things hockey, swag, traditions and music choices. Three juniors -- better known as "The Three Musketeers" of the Lincoln-Sudbury boys hockey team joined Tommy Cassell on Cassell's Corner podcast. The trio of Lincoln-Sudbury HighWarriors chat with host Tommy Cassell about all things L-S hockey and the Warriors' recent win in the seventh annualWarriors 4 Warriors game, which is played in memory of former L-S hockey player Scott Milley, who was killed at the age of 23 while serving our country in Afghanistan in 2010. Franklin High junior Ali Brigham announced her verbal commitment to play basketball at George Washington University on Dec. 4. Exactly a week later, Brigham scored a game-high 29 points in a 61-20 win over Milford. The junior standout joined host Tommy Cassell with Franklin senior captains Bea Bondhus and Shannon Gray, and junior Megan O'Connell. The quartet of Panthers talked basketball, volleyball and tanning tips, while also discussing a new initiative that doesn't allow basketball players to roll up their shorts this season. A year after losing in the Division 7 Super Bowl, the Blackstone Valley Tech football team made tech school history by winning a state championship. The four senior captains in Jordyn Amero, Justin Sauter, Ethan Blake and Dawson Potter, and senior Conner Christensen all joined host Tommy Cassell to talk about the Super Bowl victory. The Beavers spoke about their "Rocky II" inspired season, inspiration from a beloved coach who passed away from cancer and even a little swagger inspiration from a company called Supreme. Fresh off an exciting 1-0 win in penalty kicks over Nipmuc in the Division 3 state championship, the Wayland boys soccer team joined host Tommy Cassell with the state title trophy in tow. Five seniors in Gage Fuller, Jake Tyska, Andrew D'Amico, Jack Dretler and Nolan Smith played a little soccer inside the Daily News office before talking all things soccer with Tommy inside our podcast studio. Smith went over his game-winning save in goal, Fuller chatted his penalty-kick score and the other boys opened up about the Wayland soccer program. On September 28, Marlborough High 2017 graduate Connor Walker could feel his legs. A day later, the Saint Anselm sophomore football player could not. Following a spinal cord injury in a game against Southern Connecticut, Connor was rushed to the hospital when he couldn't feel or move his body. Roughly three days later, he finally regained full feeling in his upper body but still can't feel his lower half to this day. Connor, along with his father, Robbie Walker, joined host Tommy to talk about the events of Sept. 29, the diagnosis, the rehab and now the future.Connor and his father also chatted with Tommy about the community outreach, Connor's plans moving forward and even discussed the "pimp mobile" that Connor would like to drive again someday. The next football team to join Cassell's Corner is Milford High, as the Scarlet Hawks are fresh off two straight wins to make a late push for a playoff berth. With host, Tommy Cassell were seniors Brendan White and Sean Lehane, and juniors Colby Pires and Luke Rosa. The Ashland football team made a trip to the Daily News to join podcast host Tommy Cassell after Week 5 of the high school football season. Four Clockers in seniors Jackson Hornung, Nathan Sickles and Ben Colledge, and junior Dom Cavanagh played some football games and trivia games while also talking all things football with Cassell. For the fourth straight week, a football team joined host Tommy Cassell on the podcast as the Wayland football team -- fresh off a 35-0 rout of Concord-Carlisle -- came into the MetroWest Daily News to run routes, play some games, talk sports and part-take in some shenanigans with Cassell. The four Wayland football players are seniors Mikey Lampert, Brooks Jones and Wellington Pereira, as well as junior quarterback Mason Bolivar. The Warriors chatted about football, wrestling, broken backs and having a parent that cultivates weed. At the end, the quartet played musical chairs with Cassell in a game called "Drop A Hint".

The Natick boys football team faced a must-win situation in its Week 3 game against Walpole, and the Redhawks took care of business with a 42-14 win over the Rebels. A big part of that triumph was the play of sophomore quarterback Will Lederman, who had four total touchdowns. Lederman joined host Tommy Cassell in this episode along with teammates Max Ferrucci, Felix Ferrucci and Declan McMahon. The quartet of Redhawks talked all thing football with Tommy, while also discussing twinning, baseball, video games and at the end, the four Natick football players squared off in trivia on music. Four Franklin football players join host Tommy Cassell to talk about the Panthers fast start to the season -- back by a motto of all gas, no brakes. A father-son duo of Dover's Steve Ryan and Kirby Ryan joined host Tommy Cassell to discuss Dover-Sherborn football's season-opening win over Weston – which happens to be Tommy's alma mater – on Sept. 7. Kirby is a junior quarterback and Steve is in his second year as D-S head coach, his second stint with the Raiders after coaching the team earlier this century. Four Medway soon-to-be seniors joined podcast host Tommy Cassell on Cassell's Corner podcast to talk about their interesting summer adventures and their upcoming school year. Wellesley natives Mike Vasil and Henry Weycker joined host Tommy Cassell to talk all things baseball. The best teenage golfer in the country came on Cassell's Corner podcast to chat with host Tommy Cassell about how he got that title. Wellesley's Michael Thorbjornsen claimed the prestigious golf tournament, coming from behind to win 1 up in the US Junior Amateur at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey on July 21. The Daily News Male and Female Athlete(s) of the Year in Hopkinton's Will Abbott and Natick's Grace Connolly join host Tommy Cassell to talk about their noteworthy honors. Abbott was a once-in-a-generation type athlete this past school year when it came to football, hockey and lacrosse. He raised the bar athletically at Hopkinton High by setting a boatload of new school records and was named an All-American for lax. Connolly was in a class of her own this past school year when it came to running, earning All-American status and Mass. Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year, while also setting a bunch of new school records.

Ducks fly together. Host Tommy Cassell chats with members of the Division 1 state championship baseball team from Needham High School as well as two of their coaches. The coaches just happened to be Tommy's high school classmates.
After senior captain, Charlie Roberts scooped up three rubber ducky’s during his team’s trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in May the team used them as good luck charms in his team’s dugout ever since,
Joining me were three of its senior captains in Charlie Sumner, Alex Luscher and Roberts. The two coaches are head coach Matt Howard and assistant coach Alex Marlow, both graduates of Weston High School, where Tommy went to school.
The group talks about winning a state championship for Needham baseball, relived some of the glory days of Weston High, discussed rubber duckies and even played a little trivia.

With the high school sports season officially over, Milford's Ava and Andrew Vasile came into the studio to talk with Tommy Cassell, the host of the Cassell's Corner podcast, to talk the past three seasons of sports and the 2017-18 sports year in general. Now although the two siblings, twins if you couldn't tell, live in Milford, they both go to different schools. Ava, 12 minutes older, is a rising senior at Medway High while the younger Andrew is a rising senior at Blackstone Valley Tech in Upton. Both play three sports, with Ava staring on the soccer field, indoor track, and lacrosse field while Andrew shines on the soccer field, basketball court, and lacrosse field. The Dover-Sherborn boys tennis team joins host Tommy Cassell in this episode. Two seniors in Max Schuermann (No. 1 singles) and Lucas Minas (No. 2 singles), along with their coach Jon Kirby, talk all things tennis. The Raiders finished the regular season with a 15-0 record and over their four years at D-S, Schuermann and Minas led their team to a 63-0 record in the regular season over that time span. D-S lost in the Division 3 state championship in 2016, the sophomore season for both Schuermann and Minas, and fell in the Div. 3 state semifinals in 2015 and 2017. Needless to say, the Raiders have some unfinished business that is motivating them. The three D-S tennis team members and Cassell also discuss golf, swimming, DJing and many other things.

Fresh off a win in the Rich Pedroli Memorial Daily News Classic, the Hopkinton baseball team joined host Tommy Cassell. The Hillers won 5-3 over three-time defending Daily News Classic champs Franklin on May 26 at Natick's Mahan Field. Hopkinton will soon be playing in the Division 2 South playoffs. Host Tommy Cassell brings iin a couple for the first time. They are seniors from rivaling towns and schools. Milford's Shannon Cormier and Hopedale's Brandon Hall. Shannon is currently on the undefeated Milford softball team, which is the defending Division 1 state champion. Brandon is currently running outdoor track for Hopedale and just broke the school record in the 1-mile. The two started dating nearly two years ago when Brandon added Shannon as a friend on Snapchat. It took two dates for him to finally ask for her telephone number. The two are very competitive with each other and have been trying to out-do one another when it comes to proposals to prom: promposals. They both will play sports at college, with Brandon running three seasons at Fordham University and Shannon playing field hockey at American International College.

Holliston High School graduate Jake Obid and his former teacher Bill Wechsler joined host Tommy Cassell for this week's episode.
Wechsler was diagnosed with ALS in 2016 and was given two to five years to live. Obid credits Wechsler, who was a social worker at Holliston High until 2017, with saving his life as Obid was struggling with school and his life as a sophomore at Holliston.
Obid finished the 2018 Boston Marathon. He ran to pay homage to his former teacher and raised nearly $15K for Team Challenge ALS. He finished the race with a calf injury and possibly a torn meniscus in his knee.

Kalman was one of eight skiers who represented the United States in the Freestyle Junior World Championships in Duved, Sweden, where he competed in the moguls events. Kalman has been skiing since he was 3 years old and currently splits his time between Westborough High and Killington Mountain School in Vermont. Kalman will be graduating from Westborough High in June and taking a gap year at Killington before heading to the University of Michigan. The Franklin baseball team joins podcast host Tommy Cassell after senior James Leofanti threw a special no-hitter on April 13 in a 4-0 win over Milford and senior captain Jake Noviello tossed a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win over Walpole on April 18. The players are joined by their coach Zach Brown and his son. The two are leaders on the Panthers team that recently went on a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The Raiders scored 102 points this year, and only allowed 29.“It wasn’t one girl racking up all the points. It was the team as a whole,” said Coakley. “Finishing with a win at the Garden was awesome.”

Marshall is in the 220-pound weight class and Attasauov is in the 132-pound weight class. Both were All-State champions this year in their respective weight classes. Host Tommy Cassell brings two wrestlers from Franklin High into the studio to talk about their season. Both are seniors, Ian Bakalars and TJ Remillard.
Ian wrestles at 120 pounds while Remillard wrestles at 132 pounds. At the All-State meet, Ian finished fifth while TJ placed fourth.
Franklin High finished its regular season with a 24-0 record and the team was Division 1 Dual Meet State Champs. The Panthers also won their second straight Hockomock League championship.

Host Tommy Cassell brought in four Medway High seniors who were named Daily News All-Stars for the fall sports season. They are Anna Brewer, Riley Childs, Abby Murphy and Rob Dunne. Brewer, Murphy and Dunne were all soccer All-Stars while Childs was a volleyball All-Star. Childs also recently hit the 1,000-point milestone for girls basketball. The four all-stars and Cassell chatted about sports, the awards ceremony with former New England Patriots Sebastian Vollmer, how Brewer and Dunne had both broken their backs like Vollmer but still moved forward with their respective sports. The three boys are senior Jordan Arnold (left), sophomore Ian Arnold (middle left), and junior Kyle Burati (middle, right). Arnold specializes in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke while his younger brother Ian swims in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Burati is a diver. The Redhawks went a perfect 12-0 this regular season and also won the Bay State Conference Championship meet for the first time in over three decades.

Two local student-athletes who are air riflers joined host Tommy Cassell this week. Teammates Brendan Seitz, a junior at Marian High and a Milford native, and Aliya Butt, from Franklin, compete locally and nationally. Seitz and Butt talk about the sports psychology of air rifling as well as the skill involved in the sport. Host Tommy Cassell talks with Millis High girls basketball team's head coach Dave Fallon and senior captains Lydia Flaherty and Meaghan Hourigan.
They talked about sustaining success, working together at a Muffin house and dating football players who also won a state title.
Millis lost to Quaboag Regional High last year in Division 4 state semifinals and fell to Cathedral High in the Division 4 state title game to two seasons ago when Lydia and Meaghan were sophomores.
The Mohawks won a Division 4 state title with a 50-42 win over Fenway High when the two were freshmen and while both were eighth graders playing on the freshman team in the 2013-14 season, Millis won 57-36 over New Mission High in the Division 4 state title game.
Hourigan also won a state title with the Millis girls soccer team this past fall.

Framingham High Ice Hockey senior captain and goaltender Alex Moore and second-year coach Will Ortiz joined host Tommy Cassell’s for this episode.
Moore and Ortiz saw the Flyers reach the Division 1 state title game for the first time in 13 years last season as Framingham lost 4-2 to St. Mary's of Lynn in the state championship.
Ortiz, an alumnus of Framingham High, was a star player for the Flyers the last time Framingham had made an appearance in a state title game. It was 2004.
The group talks about this ice hockey season, the new rules for a penalty, the Framingham-Natick rivalry, and how to shake off the end of the previous season.
“There are very few teams who win their very last game,” Ortiz told Cassell.
Moore also talks about working with NHL backup goaltender Mike Condon, who plays for the Ottawa Senators, earlier this year. Condon grew-up in Holliston and graduated from Belmont Hill. (Condon appeared on Cassell’s Corner in August.)

Franklin boys basketball team senior captain Paul Mahon, coach CJ Neely and sophomore Chris Edgehill join host Tommy Cassell in this week’s episode.
The group gathered in advance of the Panthers' first game of the season on Friday, Dec. 15, against Milford.
“Franklin is hoping to win one more game than last year to finish what they started,” said Cassell.
Franklin finished with a 22-3 record last season and a Division 1 Central sectional title. The Panthers beat St. John’s of Shrewsbury in the D1 Central final after losing to St. John’s in the playoffs in each of the past three years.
The Panthers then had a remarkable comeback after being down eight points with 15.8 seconds left in its Division 1 state semifinal matchup with Springfield Central on March 14. Franklin managed to tie it and force overtime before winning 60-54 to earn a berth in the Div. 1 state championship.
Mahon talks with the group about having to sit out all of the practices so far this season, due to the third concussion of his high school athletic career. The group also talked about their other athletic interests, including Special Olympics and badminton.

Host Tommy Cassell is joined by Natick High School seniors Brendan Fair, Peter Ryan, and Brett Davidson, who host their own show called “The Players Pod.”
Cassell talks with the boys, who are all athletes at Natick High, about the show that focuses mostly Natick sports, sports, and life Natick High School.
“It’s a voice for all of the athletes and the non-athletes at the school,” Ryan told Cassell.
Ryan was a senior captain on the football team and is now a captain for the boys basketball team. He also wrote an article for me/MetroWest in the first edition of "The Player's Perspective.” Davidson was a member of the boys soccer team and is a captain of the indoor track team. Fair was a captain for the golf team in the fall.
Cassell loosens the reins as well Fair, Ryan and Davidson take the last part of the podcast as their own. Listeners may or may not learn how to meet new people.

Lincoln-Sudbury football coach Tom Lopez and junior quarterback Braden O'Connell join host Tommy Cassell for this episode. The team is preparing to make their first Super Bowl appearance since 2011.
“It’s a game the players are never going to forget,” Lopez told Cassell.
L-S is 11-0 after a win over Newton South on Thanksgiving Day. They will be playing 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the Division 2 Super Bowl against King Philip at Gillette Stadium.
Behind O'Connell, a first-year starter at QB, and Lopez, the 40-year coach for the Warriors, the L-S offense has scored a total of 468 points this season – with a whooping 77 points coming against a regular season win over Cambridge Rindge & Latin.
Lopez was a longtime assistant principal at a middle school in Sudbury and O'Connell also plays lacrosse for the three-time defending L-S boys lacrosse team.

Caitlyn Kelleher, the producer of Cassell’s Corner and the Innovation Specialist for Wicked Local, takes over as host for this episode. She asks Cassell to explain why the Thanksgiving Day game means so much to players, fans and alums.
The pair also discusses how the new playoff system in the MIAA is affecting the game. The super bowls are scheduled for Dec. 2 and 3, the weekend after the Thanksgiving holiday. Blackstone Valley Tech football coach Jim Archibald joins host Tommy Cassell to talk about the upcoming playoff games, what it’s like to have a player break his collarbone in the middle of a game, and the status of the Thanksgiving game.
“Any time you play a sport you want to be the last time standing,” Archibald told Cassell as he was talking about the end of the season.
Valley Tech is 10-0 and won the Division 7 Central sectional title and will play Division 7 West champion Wahconah on Saturday in a Division 7 state semifinal game. The winner will go on to play in the Division 7 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium.
Archibald has been the head coach since 2011 and his team last won a Super Bowl title in 2012 with a win over Bay Path in the Division 6 Central Super Bowl.

Algonquin boys soccer senior captain Zach Osetek and coach Ken Morin, and Westborough boys soccer senior captain Greg Amador and coach John Hillier came into the studio to talk with host Tommy Cassell.
The group talked about traditions -- from the players dyeing their hair blond after making it to the playoffs to leapfrogging over each other after a goal.
Both No. 5 Algonquin (11-6-3) and No. 3 Westborough (15-1-3) are playing in Division 1 Central semifinal games on Wednesday and if both win, they will face each other in the Div. 1 Central sectional final.
Westborough won a sectional title last year while Algonquin won in 2014. Amador got a red card and missed Westborough's final two playoffs games last season, including its loss in the Division 1 state championship.

Senior captains Hannah Lederman and Taylor Brown, as well as fellow senior Rachel Jasinski, discuss their experience playing together and the bound that they share. Natick is 16-0 and will hold the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 South sectional playoffs.
Third-year coach James Blackwell talked with Tommy and his players about what each contributes to the team as well as what makes this group of seniors unique.
Taylor has missed the entire season with a torn meniscus and ACL, which she injured in the playoffs last year. She talked to Tommy about how she has worked to stay close to the team and to contribute her senior year despite being unable to take the field.
Hannah and Rachel are both Bay State Conference All-Stars this season.

Host Tommy Cassell brought in Hopkinton sophomore golfer Matt Epstein and longtime coach Dick Bliss into the studio to talk about golf.
The group talked about the upcoming Division 2 state championship tournament as well as the past season. This fall, Matt shot a 2-over par 73 at the Division 2 South sectional tournament, which was a tie for fourth-place overall, and has led the Hillers to a Tri-Valley League Large title this season.
Hopkinton placed second as a team at sectionals.
The last time the Hillers won a state title was in 2004. Dick has coached the golf team for 38 years and has also spent time coaching girls and boys basketball, football and girls tennis teams as well as serving as the athletic director at Hopkinton High.

Hannah Finley, a graduate of the Millis High, joins host Tommy Cassell on this week’s episode. The Medway resident is taking a gap year between high school and college as she finishes undergoing chemotherapy of Stage 3 Classic Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Hannah and Tommy talk about her cancer treatment including the fact she is now in remission. She talks about the Jimmy Fund and how it helped connect her with others in similar circumstances.
They talk about her work right now, including serving as one of the coaches for a middle school volleyball team and doing casting calls for acting
She was accepted at UMass-Amherst during her senior year but deferred while she focused on her health this summer and fall.

Glen Magpiong of Wellesley joins host Tommy Cassell in the studio to talk about his cross-country bicycling trip, which raised money to help raise awareness and find a cure for ALS.
Glen and Tommy first talked earlier this summer as the cyclist was early in his journey. This new episode talks about the full trip, which started when Glen dipped his bike’s wheels into Boston Harbor and ended on the Santa Monica Pier in California.
Glen talks about his experiencing getting hit by a truck while on a highway and the logistics of continuing his trip after that, as well as all of the people along the way who helped make the trip a success.

The AMSA boys soccer team captains Patrick Langton, Josef Langton, Alex Lane and Calvin Fillios talk with host Tommy Cassell in this week's episode. The team is off to a 10-0-1 start on the season. Host Tommy Cassell sits down with Andrew Mainini, who coaches the Hopedale girls volleyball team in the fall and Milford boys volleyball team in the spring.
Mainini is in the midst of the girls volleyball season as the Blue Raiders finished last season with a 17-1 record and a No. 1 seed in the Division 3 Central sectional. Hopedale is off to a 5-2 start so far this season, dropping the matches to Millbury, who kicked Hopedale out of the tournament last year, and Shrewsbury, who is in Division 2.
Mainini talks about what he has learned about being a coach over the years and how last season taught him he can (and should) diversify the strategies he teaches the girls.
A Milford alumnus, Mainini is in his fifth season coaching Hopedale girls volleyball and he will be starting his third year at Milford this upcoming spring. He talks about what it was like to coach the junior varsity program for Linda Zacchilli in Milford and then to follow in her footsteps when she retired.

Host Tommy Cassell sits down with two Hopkinton football players and the Hillers offensive coordinator in this episode.
Will Abbott, a senior, Ryan Kelleher, a junior, and Dan Sullivan, the Hillers’ offensive coach, shared their impressions of the beginning of the fall season as well as reflections of last year’s matchups.
Abbott, a wide receiver, has scored five touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season. Kelleher is playing his first year as a full-time starting quarterback. The junior started the final two games of the 2016 season for the Hillers.
Sullivan has coached at Hopkinton for eight years. The coach is originally from Ashland and talks about coaching against his childhood (and current) friend. He was the Ashland Post 77 Legion manager for a few years (summer baseball).

Glen Magpiong joins host Tommy Cassell from Ohio. Magpiong is in the midst of a cross country journey on his bicycle to help raise awareness for ALS.
A Wellesley resident, Magpiong is riding with his father, Earl, and with fellow Wellesley resident Tucker Swan. They are riding for former junior varsity boys basketball coach, Paul Seaver. Seaver was the JV coach, while Magpiong was the Wellesley boys basketball coach. Seaver was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) during the 2010-11 basketball season and died from it in 2013.
Magpiong, the girls basketball coach at Wellesley High School, first cycled across the country in 2014.
Magpiong is calling his ride the "Tour 2 Cure."

Holliston native Mike Condon is a goalie for the Ottawa Senators and he talkswith host Tommy Cassell.
Condon, who graduated from Belmont Hill, signed a three-year $7.2 million contract in June to be the backup goaltender for the Senators, a NHL team for the capital of Canada. Condon will be starting his second year with the Senators in September when training camp opens.
“I put the pads on the first time in my driveway with my brother shooting tennis balls at me,” Condon tells Cassell. “And all the kids in the neighborhood saw it, they come, and now they are shooting tennis balls and all of sudden you are playing goalie and that’s what you are doing.”
He talks about being the first guy out of the tunnel when the Penguins raised the Stanley Cup banner, despite not being on the team the year before, and what it was like playing in the Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium on New Year’s Day in 2016.
Getting ready for the Winter Classic he thought, “I’m walking into the house Tom Brady built.”
He played 55 games for the Montreal Canadiens in the 2015-2016 season. “I was just ecstatic to have a job for the next year but when I told my dad and my brother there was kind of a pause on the phone there. It was kinda like a Boston kid going to go play for the Yankees,” Condon says to Cassell.
He also played one game for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2016-2017 before being traded to the Senators.
In addition to growing up in Holliston, Condon also lived in Natick and Needham with his father during middle school and high school.

Bellingham’s Sarah Edwards sat down this week with podcast host Tommy Cassell. She talks about her first year running at Virginia Tech, her ACC championship win in the steeplechase, her summer competing with the Pan Am Junior Team in Peru and her battle with brain cancer her freshman year of high school.
“My first day of high school I was diagnosed with brain cancer,” Edwards told Cassell during their conversation. She shared details of that experience as she explained to Cassell how she transitioned from a member of Bellingham’s varsity soccer team her freshmen year to running three seasons of track for the next three years.
She started by “hiding with the sprinters” despite the coach’s plan that she run the 800-meter. Then during her first meet, she broke a school record in the 800-meter.
“I stopped hiding with the sprinters,” she said.
She was the Daily News Female Athlete of the Year in 2016.
Her first year as a Hokie, Edwards competed all three seasons - cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. She began competing in the steeplechase this year and won the race her second time she did it in competition, which happened to be the ACC Championship.
She went on to spend part of summer competing with the Pan Am Junior Team in Peru.

Daily News Male Athlete of the Year Brian Espanet sits down and talks with Cassell’s Corner podcast host Tommy Cassell.
Espanet was a three-sport athlete at Hopedale High School, who graduated in June. He played football for the co-op Millis-Hopedale team (which won a Division 4A state championship), the boys basketball team and baseball team.
The team beat Maynard High 30-18 in the Division 4A Super Bowl in December.
Espanet talks with Cassell about how that friendship on the football field with Millis players and the rivalry with Maynard carried over on the hardwood during the basketball season.
During this high school career, Espanet scored over 1,000 career points in basketball and had over 100 career hits in baseball.

Daily News Female Athlete of the Year Grace Connolly talks with podcast host Tommy Cassell about her success in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track.
Connolly finished her sophomore year at Natick High this past year. During which she was an individual All-American for both cross country and indoor track, and an All-American as part of a relay team in outdoor track.
She talks about her season at Natick and choosing to focus solely on running instead of playing lacrosse.
Connolly also talks about competing at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional race in New York in November, where she finished fourth (18:01). With a top-10 finish there, she garnered a spot at Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego, where she finished ninth with a time of 17:50.

Natick’s Connolly named 2016-2017 Gatorade Massachusetts girls cross country runner of the year.
Podcast host Tommy Cassell talks with Henry Weycker, the Wellesley Raiders' star baseball player, and the team’s coach Rob Kane.
Kane and Weycker were major pieces of this year’s trip to the Division 1 State Championship game. It was the first time the Raiders competed at that level. The team fell to Taconic, but Kane and Weycker talk with Cassell about the high points of the season as well as look forward to next year.
The team won the program’s first sectional title since 2005.
Weycker, who finished his sophomore year this year, is a left-handed hitter and pitcher. He is planning on heading to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, when he graduates from Wellesley.
Weycker and Kane also talk to Cassell about what’s next for Wellesley as they switched from wood to aluminum bats, from nine to seven innings and as they strive to win the state title.

Podcast host Tommy Cassell talks baseball and golf with three of the Macchi brothers of Franklin.
Joe Macchi, 30, is the head coach for the Franklin American Legion Baseball Team and his brothers Josh and Jake are playing on the team.
Josh, 18, is a 2017 graduate of Franklin High who is planning to go to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the fall. Jake, 16, is a member of the Class of 2019 at Franklin High School.
The Legion Post 75 team plays in Zone 6 West.

This week, host Tommy Cassell talks with Wayland boys volleyball and soccer star Jack Fletcher and his father, Rod, the Wayland boys volleyball coach.
The Wayland boys volleyball team finished the regular season with an 18-2 record and split the Dual County League championship with Newton South.
Fletcher, who graduated from Wayland High this spring, stood out on the court this season. He was named DCL Player of the Year and first team DCL All Star. Jack was also on the state championship soccer teams in 2016 and 2014 (his senior and sophomore seasons).

Trevor van Leer, the goaltender for the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors, sits down with host Tommy Cassell before tonight’s Division 1 North sectional final.
The top-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury (17-1) boys lacrosse team faces third-seeded Acton-Boxborough in the Division 1 North sectional final on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Harvard Stadium. The winner goes on to play in the Division 1 state final.
“It’s a super important game to win since we’ve been playing since we were young kids in fifth grade,” van Leer told Cassell about the game.
The Warriors are chasing their third straight sectional title and hope to move on to the fight for their consecutive third state championship.

This week, host Tommy Cassell talks with Franklin Girls Lacrosse Coach Kristin Igoe and Natick Girls Lacrosse Coach Tanner Guarino.
The women played together at Framingham High School in 2007, where they won the state title in girls lacrosse.
Nine years later, after playing for different college programs they played together again. This time, professionally for the Boston Storm. Igoe and Guarino took to the field in 2016 for the first season of the United Women’s Lacrosse League.
They have started the Gold Star Lacrosse, a competitive, year-round, club girls lacrosse team out of the Medway area.
Igoe’s Franklin girls are competing tonight (June 7) at home against King Philip. The semi-final match for the Division 1 East is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
Guarino’s Natick girls went into the playoffs ranked eighth in the Division 1 East. They dropped in the first round against Newton North.

Tommy Cassell sits down and talks with the incoming coach of Framingham High School's basketball team, Jason Gosselin. Gosselin has worked as the junior varsity coach for the past three seasons and freshman coach for the two previous seasons before that. Gosselin will take over for Ben Torbert starting in the upcoming winter season.
