Genesis 39:10

“And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.”

Joseph refused to listen to her.

Day after day, when you get this type of attention and you find yourself in this kind of situation, do what Joseph did.

We need to identify it when it starts.

Vs 11

“And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.”

When you notice these things about attraction and chemistry between you and someone else, do not create an environment where you’ll be alone with them. Don’t allow it to happen. Avoid it.

Vs 12

“And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.”

Usually such people are calculating. They know when, how and what to do.

Why was Joseph interesting to Potiphar wife? Given the fame, riches and the kind of physical build that Potiphar must have had as the captain of the guard of Pharaoh. She must have been lonely.

Potiphar must have been carried away with his work.

We need to make out time for our spouse.

We need to set our priorities right - God first, your spouse next, your children, then your ministry.

When our priorities are misaligned, we will be neglecting those closest to us and making excuses, creating loopholes in our family life, our homes and the lives of those around us. This makes the enemy take advantage of us.

Eve was in the garden by herself...where was Adam? Sometimes we can get so carried away in doing things that we forget the needs of those around us.

Gen 39:1-7

Vs 7 “And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.”

It’s interesting the things that happen to us when God begins to elevate us. Sometimes the people that didn’t notice us before now begin to notice us. Someone said success has many friends.

“It came to pass after these things” After his accomplishments and increase. It’s important to note that she wasn’t casting her eyes on him when he was brought in to Potiphar’s house by the Ishmaelites probably looking skinny and unkempt. This happened after he had worked there for a while.

There are actions...she cast her eyes on him. Then there are words...she spoke.

Vs 8. But he refused.

He exercised his will to do the right thing. He didn’t call her by her name. Joseph’s response and recognition of her position, office and who she was. He created boundaries within his workplace.

Vs 10. She spoke to him day by day. She was stubborn. She was persistent. She was insistent.

Sometimes when these things are going on around you, understand what it is and that they’re trying to break your resolve.

This concludes the series on betrayal and how to handle it.

View Details

Some steps to follow when you experience a betrayal.

  1. Pray. Sometimes you experience so much pain that you don't know how to pray nor do you have the words. This is the best time to pray in the spirit. When you pray in the spirit genuinely for those who betray you, your heart releases blessings over them. This allows your heart to be open and it gives you freedom. When your heart is closed, it doesn't allow God heal those issues nor allow you freedom.

When you close up your heart, it is difficult for you to pray. Prayer takes out the sting, pain and bitterness from that experience.

  1. Speak to close friends. It helps your healing process and gives you a broader perspective.

  2. Look for head space. A space to meditate. As you meditate on God's word and spend time with scriptures, it becomes difficult to hold offence against anyone.

  3. Forgive. Forgiveness is NOT a feeling. It is a CONSCIOUS DECISION. You make up your mind that this is what you want to do because it is what God requires of you. When you forgive, it brings healing to you. It lets you go free.

Ifyou've been betrayed or you're walking through it or it has happened to you, this is just an encouragement - Jesus knows how you feel because it happened to Him.

Don't put your whole trust in man. Be like Jesus. In John 2:24 the Bible says He didn't give himself to any man.

Emotions that come with experiencing betrayal include:

  1. Shock
  2. Denial
  3. Disbelief
  4. Sadness
  5. Deep disappointment

Emotional Betrayal is one of the most painful experiences that you can go through in life.

Psychologists say that it leaves deep emotional scars activating the same areas of the brain that physical pain activates.

Betrayal is never from someone who is very far. It is always from someone who is close...your friend, someone who you trust and confide in.

Betrayal - Greek: Paradidomi - To give into the hands of another...to give over to one's power or use. When you betray someone, you abandon them or give them over to a circumstance, you leave them in the lurch, you stab them in the back, or leave them open to attack or assault and do nothing.

Judas is named as one of the 6 greatest betrayers in history. In every one of those scenarios, the people who handed others to be betrayed had it within their power to protect or stop something from happening...but they didn't.

As the world evolves and things happen, we would see the rise of betrayal in the earth. 2Tim 3: 1-4

In Church, even when we don't expect that to happen, betrayal does happen in church.

When betrayal happens in church, what do we do? How do we treat the betrayer?

Betrayal stems from us loving ourselves selfishly...at the root of betrayal is selfishness.

Gethsemane meaning - The oil press

When we're betrayed. we're in a place where there's pressing going on. God allows us to go through a season where He sifts out things out of our lives and we go through a purifying process...painful, but if we go through it well, it brings out good in the end.

An orphan spirit produces a performance mentality. We need to be very careful so we don't allow ourselves become performance people.

When we spend time running after things, there is never a finish line in view. When we are active and always busy running after things, sometimes it is because we may be either running away from the issues that come up to us when we're quiet or feel obligated to perform because that the way we feel loved or accepted.

God designed you for relationship...He wants you to relate with Him and love the people around you, so you can be whole.

View Details

Signs that someone is Insecure or has an Orphan Mentality.

  1. Orphans are extremely defensive. They stand their ground and refuse to admit they have an issue.
  2. They play the "blame game". They believe nothing is wrong with them...they're fine.
  3. They find fault in everything
  4. They have a strong desire to be right all the time.
  5. They have a "performance" mentality

Fear. An emotional response that is induced by perceived threat. Fear can lead us to hide , to run away or to freeze in our shoes. Fear is foreign to our nature but when you've been an orphan, fear is what comes to you naturally because you don't have a sense of security.

Perfect love casts out all fear because fear has torment. As Christians, as we grow in understanding how much God loves us, it gives us a greater sense of security.

View Details

If you're going to journey from a place of being an orphan to a place of wholeness, you have to allow yourself to be loved by the people God has placed around you.

God uses your friends to love you. He loves us through His word, but God loves us through people.

View Details

When we carry an orphan spirit, we live in fear. It could be fear of rejection, abandonment or just a phobia for forming close relationships.

Sometimes when we put up walls around us, we forget that the same walls that keep others out, imprison us.

Its hard to pour out God's love to a deep dimension if you haven't journeyed there yourself. You can only give what you have.

View Details

It is so important for us as people to deal with any kind of emotional baggage or any kind of experience we've had that has allowed us to walk the path of being emotional orphans.

In John 10:10 Jesus says that He has come that we may have life and have it more abundantly. That abundance of "life" is not just spiritual, it is physical, emotional, psychological and financial.

If you truly desire to experience the abundance that God has, if you really desire to come into your own and walk in the beauty of all that God is for you and for your generation, you need to go to your broken places emotionally and be healed.

Pride stinks...God cannot tolerate pride.

God cannot do anything with you if you are proud...He only uses yielded, submitted and surrendered vessels.

If you're going to be the vessel that God will use in this end time, if you're going to survive the onslaught of the enemy and overcome in the battles of life, you need to be submitted.

God is raising soldiers...but a distinct mark that is going to be upon those He will use is Humility.

God is calling you to surrender your life, your thoughts, your ways, your manipulations and scheming. Give them up!
