Welcome to The Heal and Restore Podcast, where we hold space for real stories, honest healing, and the deep work of restoration.

Today’s episode is one that speaks to the wounds we don’t always have words for.
It’s called: “Breaking the Silence: How Unspoken Childhood Trauma Shapes Us.”

So many of us carry pain from our past—things that happened when we were too young to name them, too scared to speak them, or told to pretend they didn’t matter. But silence doesn’t erase trauma. In fact, it often buries it deeper, where it quietly shapes how we see ourselves, how we trust others, and how we move through the world.

In this conversation, we’re shining a light on what happens when childhood trauma goes unspoken—and how breaking that silence can be the first step toward healing.

Whether you’re someone walking through your own story, or holding space for someone else’s, this episode is for you. You are not alone. And your healing matters.

Dreams are unrefined hopes, aspirations we would like to accomplish one day. Converting a dream into reality is a decision that only you can make. It is possible to make your realistic dreams come and hopes come true. However only you hold the key to make that happen. It starts by setting a goal and then being "intentional" about achieving your goal. On this episode Randy and Cathy talk about the importance of setting goals and then being intentional about working towards completing those goals.

We have all done this that we regret, however we do not have to live with regret for the rest of our lives. In fact, why be regretful at all. How about if we can just start looking at our "regrets' as a learning moment. What did you learn from the thing you "regretted?" Own it, learn from it, write out what you would like to differently, become entranced in today, and make a plan as to what you will do differently the next time the situation arises. Take the action needed not to repeat the same actions as before. We will discuss all of this in this episode of Healing Courageously.

Affirmations of the soul. Have you ever been or are you currently Spiritually confused. I know that growing up and into much of my adult life I was. I can only imaging that in todays times, many of you are spiritually confused. I know many survivors of abuse are very confused,

Have you ever asked you questions similar to the ones listed below.

– Does God really exist?

– Is the Devil real?

– Is meditation a form of satanic worship?

– I yoga a form of satanic worship and a satanic belief?

These are questions I struggled with as a result of the spiritual abuse I endured growing up. What exactly is spiritual abuse: Abuse of any type occurs when someone has power over another and uses that power to hurt. Thus spiritual abuse happens when a leader with spiritual authority uses that authority to coerce, control, or exploit a follower, thus causing spiritual wounds.

In this episode we will discuss in detail using real life examples of spiritual abuse, how it is manipulated and how it can effect our out look on the bible, church and God.

Secrets and Lies are two things that will keep us in bondage. We hope no one will discover our secrets, yet it is inevitable that they will be exposed at some time in our life. Usually this will happen at the most inopportune times. We forget about the lies we have told in the past and eventually, we get caught telling a lie to cover up a lie we have been covering up in the past. It is a vicious circle with no good ending. What is hidden, WILL come to life.

There are two very profound and direct scriptures that talk about the consequences of abusing children. On of the scriptures is found in Matthew, Luke, and Mark. The second scripture can be found in Colossians and Ephesians. In this episode I talk about these scriptures and how easily they can be disobeyed.

We get a lot of payoff in our society for being inauthentic. We grew up learning how to pretend to be what we thought other people wanted us to be. We are taught that we receive love and approval from others based on how well we conform to what they want from us. The price tag for that kind of approval is far too high. We give up our own sense of self-worth when we change who we are in order to get someone else’s approval.

You might be thinking, Naw, Randy, that’s not me. I’m not that guy. I’m not a fake.

I didn’t think I was that guy, either. But as I delved deeper and deeper into personal growth, I realized that I was inauthentic most of the time.

Proverbs 22:6 says: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is important to know that if you train up your child to act like a kid when matured, then that is what he/she will do. Conversely, if you train up your child to be a responsible adult and act like a responsible adult, then they will be and act responsible.

In a world that is so divided, so full of hate and unkindness, a little act of kindness can go a long way. Everybody is going through something, you are not alone. Acts of kindness do not have to be extravagant, grandiose, or expensive. Often times the simplest acts of kindness, such as a smile, a simple hello, or holding the door open for someone will turn a person's day around. I have found that when I am having a bad day, being kind to others is the best way to turn my day around. Try it sometime and see how your day will turn around.

Acceptance really is the answer to all our problems today. Until we can accept life completely on life's terms, not ours, we cannot truly be free or happy. We need to concentrate not so much on what needs to change in the world, but as on what needs to be changed in us and our attitudes. If we do not accept the things we cannot change, then we are fighting them. We are at war within our own mind. What are we fighting for, control over people, places, and things that you have not, nor will ever have control over. We must stop fighting everyone and everything. Remember, acceptance does not mean approval.

Generational curses have a lot to do with who we have become today. Until we can recognize and confront these curses as they have shown up in our lives today, we cannot truly receive the blessings that God has in store for us. We are not what has happened to us or the labels that ourselves or others have put on us. We were born with an assignment from God put us. In order to fulfill that purpose, we must first become the person God intended us to be.

To often and by well intentioned people, survivors of abuse and trauma are told they need to forgive, forget, and move on, or they are told to get over it, it is done and over with. These words need to be removed from the vocabulary of those using them. Yes we need to learn to forgive and we need to be able to move on. However, this is a process. Forgetting our past is actually not a good thing nor is it psychologically possible. However, we never want to dwell or stay stuck in the trauma of our past. This podcast talks about why we do not want to forget our past, instead we need to learn from our past

Temptation is a desire to engage in short-term urges for enjoyment that threatens long-term goals. In the context of some religions, temptation is the inclination to sin.Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss something important to a person.

Temptations have been around since the beginning of time. Adam and Eve were tested in the Garden of Eden and succumbed to that temptation. King David was tempted by Bathseba, succumbed to that temptation, and paid a heavy price. Jesus himself was tempted after spending forty days in the desert, only he defeated the devil at his game. I have even succumbed to temptation and paid some heavy prices.

Succumbing to temptation is a choice. We can NEVER blame others for succumbing to our temptations. The decision lies squarely in or hands. In all temptations lets us consider not what he offers but what we shall loose.

How is your faith walk? Do you have more doubt than faith? Do you say you have the faith of a mustard seed, yet in the back corner of your mind there is that mustard seed size doubt? Build your faith slowly. Believe for the small things first. Like the mustard seed or oak tree seed (acorn). It starts small and weathers the small storms first in order to be able to weather the large storms that lie ahead. What is the mountain you are facing. Give it to God having the faith that he will help you move it, then get busy doing your part.

What kind of miracle are you looking for? The burning bush miracle, rising from the dead, terminal illness healed. Yes they do happen. However, few and far between apart. What about the small miracles that happen everyday. A baby being born, every breath you breath. The alcoholic or addict that never drinks again. The beauty of Gods Work in the artwork of his sunrises and sunsets. There are so many miracles that happen in our lives on a daily basis, yet many people never recognize or appreciate them. If you will just remain open minded and hearted, you too will start to see and appreciate the little miracles that are surrounding you everyday.

What is bliss?  A state of supreme happiness; utter joy or contentment

Most of us are so conditioned to follow our pleasure, or our responsibilities, that we have nearly forgotten that our bliss is what we are truly meant to find.

I recently read a post on FaceBook from someone new in recovery that asked this question: What are some Higher Powers that you use other than God in the "Christian Sense?' It got me wondering about what has happened to people to make them believe that there is only  a God in a "Christian" sense. What have "people" done to turn people away from the one and only God. God Yaweh, God the Father. On this episode I dive into this topic with my good friend and fellow believer Albert.

Are you a person that struggles believing there is a God that loves and cares for you?

Do you believe that if there is a God, he forgot about you and has no time for you?

I can relate as I was in those exact shoes fifteen years ago. However, today is different.

There is an pandemic not only in this country that throughout the world that no one wants to talk about. In fact most people act as though it never happens. If it happens in their family, to their son or daughter, more often than not they will blame it on them saying he/she must have asked for it.

So what is this pandemic I am talking about? Sexual abuse of boys and girls. Statistically 1:3 girls will be sexually abuse before the age of 18 and that statistic stands firm. On the other hand the statistic for boys that have been sexually abused is all over the board. The statistic I use in my presentations is 1:4 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18 (Lisa Project 2010).

In many ways sexual abuse of children, of any gender, is like an out of control cancer, and like any cancer there is a treatment for it. However, before the treatment can begin we must acknowledge the fact that we do indeed have a cancer growing inside of us. Next lets look at some comparisons.

There is much confusion and controversy around the subject of spanking our children especially in the realm of Christianity. Many parents believe that there is a biblical mandate that tells them they must spank their children or chance committing a sin by not not having control of their children.

All to often parents take "spare the rod and spoil the child" literally. The truth is that by doing so they are miss understanding the true concept of the "rod."  In this episode your host explores this topic biblically and brings to light the reality of how the "rod" and scriptures are taken out of context in order to justify a parents abusive behaviors. He also brings to light scripture that are rarely if ever talked about regarding how God looks at parents who harm little ones.

In order for abuse to happen, by definition, it has to come from a place of higher power to a place of lesser power.

When someone perpetrates abuse from a position of power, the victim is vulnerable because, if he does not comply with the abuser’s demands, he fears that his spiritual and emotional needs, and perhaps even his basic survival needs, will not be met.

If the victim is a child or adolescent, he is reliant on his parents to meet his basic survival needs, which include food, shelter, clothes, and love.

A victim of simultaneous sexual and spiritual abuse feels that if he does not give his power over to the abusive spiritual leader, these basic survival needs will not be met.

So, let’s always remember that spiritual “spiritual abuse is alwaysa power issue.”

As a child abuse and neglect therapist, I do battle daily with Christians enamored of the Old Testament phrase “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” No matter how far I stretch my imagination, it does not stretch far enough to include the image of a cool dude like Jesus taking a rod to a kid.

—Chris Crutcher

In the same way that sexual abuse can be devastating because it leaves the child no safe physical space to go to heal from the trauma, spiritual abuse denies the victim any soul-based solace.

On this episode we will be discussing what Spiritual abuse looks like, how it used, and the long term ramifications it1 is has the victims of said abuse.

The founders of AA are likely rolling over in their graves today. Why? Because the God that most people in the rooms of A.A. understand today is more commonly referred to as a tree, stone, radiator, fan and so many other tangible items. This is not the God that Dr. Bob and Bill W. are talking about in Step 3. If you notice that God is spelled with a capital “G” which is referring to God the creator or Yahweh. Not the false god’s that are being referred to in the rooms of A.A. today as mentioned above. Even the “H” in Him is referring to God. This has always been something that stumped me. So, I decided to do a little research of my own. I was referred to the book titled “The James Club and The Original A.A. Programs Absolute Essentials,” – By: Bick B. This book answered all of my questions regarding the original intent of A.A.’s founders.
