In this episode of the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, host Cam St.Omer Donaldson is joined by two graduates of the JustGiving Digital Learning Grant Programme — Kayleigh Wingate from Cambridge Cyrenians and Claire Caborn from Dove Cottage Day Hospice.
Both fundraisers work in small charities where wearing multiple hats is the norm, and both came into the DLG program with different goals — Kayleigh to build her fundraising foundations after a background in copywriting and marketing, and Claire to take her charity's first steps into digital fundraising ahead of a landmark 30th anniversary Big Give Christmas Challenge.
Together, they share:* What they learned across six months of the program — from email marketing and social media strategy to storytelling and grants * Why it's okay not to have all the answers (and why that realisation was liberating) * How the program boosted their confidence and sparked new strategies for their organisations * Why Fundraising Everywhere feels like an extended fundraising team — and a "fundraising encyclopaedia"

In this episode of the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, host Sarah Crowhurst — Founder of digital fundraising agency Hynt — sits down with three brilliant sector leaders ahead of her own talk at Pizza for Losers, the event that celebrates what happens when things go wrong.
Sarah is preparing to speak about professional burnout and a knock to her confidence that left her questioning her future. To calm her nerves and sharpen her thinking, she chats with:
Henry Rolling (Flying Cars Innovation Agency) — who shares how his first Christmas appeal at the Refugee Council went out without a return envelope, why failure is easier for some people than others, and what cracking an apple with your bare hands has to do with persistence.
Lesley Pinder (Compass) — who spoke at the very first Pizza for Losers about burnout and missing the warning signs. She reflects on the "vulnerability hangover" of opening up on stage, and why having your team in the front row cheering you on can change everything.
Harpreet Kondel — who opens up about being the only person of colour in the room for 32 years, the roles she was never offered, and why she refuses to let others define her worth.
Together, they explore vulnerability, self-belief, bias, and why talking about failure might be one of the bravest and most important things we can do.
What does return on investment actually look like in corporate fundraising — and what can the numbers tell us about strategy? In this episode, host Simon Scriver brings together Caroline Richardson (Lark Owl) and Andy King (Fireside Fundraising) to dig into Caroline's latest benchmarking research on corporate partnerships. What does return on investment actually look like in corporate fundraising — and what can the numbers tell us about strategy?
They explore why more charities than ever are doing corporate fundraising, what the data reveals about success rates (including why 50% of respondents had a 100% success rate — and why that's not necessarily the full story), and how ROI for corporate partnerships is trending. Caroline and Andy also unpack the key strategic difference between a high-volume and a quality-over-quantity approach, why corporate fundraising has more in common with major gifts than trusts, and why it's very much a team sport.
Caroline and Andy also discuss:
- ROI
- Percentage of charities actually doing corporate fundraising
- Success rates
- Differences between large and small charities
- Differences between 2025 and 2026 Caroline's newsletter, The Nest Egg*
* Fireside Fundraising research on why companies give

Join Josh Leigh, Director at Hynt in this session that will equip attendees with practical strategies and tools to navigate the ongoing changes in digital advertising: charities need to know WHY they exist, and work in the middle of the marketing funnel to bring it to life.
Key learnings from this session:
Participants will understand how the ongoing restrictions on digital advertising are affecting charities.
You will learn how to create effective campaigns that leverage your charity’s value to grow consideration and create deeper value through digital retention.

Is email the most underrated tool in your fundraising toolkit? In this episode, host Simon Scriver sits down with Anya Muir Wood, Head of Creative at Forward Action, to explore why email deserves far more attention than it gets — and how to make it work harder for your cause.
Anya shares how Forward Action takes a data-led, human-first approach to email fundraising, helping organisations of all sizes move from sporadic sends to strategic, story-driven campaigns that genuinely connect with supporters.
They cover:* Why fear of unsubscribes is holding your email programme back * How to overcome the blank page and write emails people actually want to open * The power of honesty, urgency, and a single clear ask * Where AI fits in (and where it doesn't) for creative email teams * How to build an email content plan even with limited capacity

What does it actually feel like to be a donor — and why does it matter more than you think?
In this episode, host Simon Scriver is joined by Steven Dodds (Managing Director) and Paul Seabrook (CEO) of Beautiful Insights, a full-service market research agency specialising in the charity sector. Together they explore one of the most overlooked challenges in fundraising: how do you measure the emotional experience of your supporters, not just the financial data?
The conversation covers: Why satisfaction alone doesn't predict donor loyalty or generosity * The SAFE Index — Beautiful Insights' benchmarking tool for measuring non-financial supporter KPIs * How donors often vividly remember why* they first gave, but rarely recall anything about the ongoing supporter experience * Why feeling "useful" might actually be a warning sign in your donor data * How charities can compete with commercial brands that have mastered emotional advertising * The difference between transactional stewardship and communications that genuinely move people
This episode sets the scene for Steven and Paul's session at the upcoming Individual Giving Conference, where they'll dive deeper into the specific emotions that drive donor retention — and which ones should have your attention.

In this episode, host Simon Scriver is joined by Natasha Evans (About Loyalty & Your Experience May Vary podcast) and David Amos-Reeves (Prostate Cancer UK & Experience Hub) to reflect on Fundraising Everywhere's recent Supporter Experience Conference.
Together, they unpack some of the conference's key themes - including the "relevancy crisis" facing charities, why so many organisations struggle to turn their commitment to supporter experience into real organisational change, and what it truly means to reflect a supporter's motivations back to them.
They also explore the differences between large and small charities when it comes to delivering great supporter experiences, share standout moments from the conference (including a powerful session on storytelling from Lisa at Fireside Fundraising), and look ahead to what's coming; from AI's role in closing the relevancy gap, to protecting the irreplaceable human element in fundraising.

The charitable soft opt-in ICO guidance has just landed.
For many charities, this is the biggest shift in supporter communications rules in years.
And our inbox and membership chat are already full of questions:* Does event attendance count as expressing interest? * What about volunteering, buying a raffle ticket, or clicking a link? * Can we now contact people we previously couldn’t?
And just as importantly…Where are the grey areas charities need to tread carefully?
To help the sector unpack all of this quickly, we’re hosting a session with Mark Burnett from Hope & May.

What happens when you hand your fundraising campaign over to an AI?
In this episode, Host Simon Scriver speaks with Ben Cohen, AI Lead at Good Innovation, about a bold experiment he ran during his London Marathon fundraising campaign. Rather than host another bingo night or curry evening, Ben built Zosia; an AI agent - and gave her one job: raise £500 in a month.
Ben shares how he set Zosia up with her own email address, a website, a newsletter, and even a Telegram connection, then gave her as much autonomy as possible. The results were remarkable (she raised nearly £2,000), but not without a few surprises along the way - including the moment she tried to break into his WhatsApp.
They explore what it really means to build an AI agent, why personifying your AI can actually make it work better, and what this experiment reveals about the future of fundraising.

Welcome to the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, today, we’ve got something a little bit different for you.
To celebrate our upcoming Face-to-Face and Telephone Fundraising Conference coming up on Thursday 23rd April, we’ve decided to hand the mic over to our guest host Rory White in this special series of episodes called 'It Started On The Street'.
Rory will be chatting to some brilliant leaders in the charity sector and beyond about their journeys since they started their careers as dialogue fundraisers.
"If you caught our previous conversation with Danny McDonnell, you’ll know we love speaking to the dynamic figures who helped shape this sector. Richard is certainly one of them — a one-man dynamo, hugely respected, and someone who’s been at the forefront of face-to-face fundraising since the early days of Gift Fundraising.
I first had the pleasure of working with Richard when he joined Shelter, where he took charge of their fundraising team. He’s obsessive about his craft — deeply passionate about the organisations he works for, and hugely motivational to everyone around him.
Over the years, he’s worked around the world, bringing his unique energy and expertise to countless projects. Now based in Dublin, he runs his own organisation, Emerald Fundraising, which — no surprise — is thriving.
I know you’ll find this conversation as inspiring and energising as I did."

What if the biggest barrier to event fundraising success isn't budget, marketing, or even donor fatigue- but a lack of leadership buy-in within your own organisation?
In this episode, Simon Scriver sits down with Pascale Harvie, President of JustGiving, to unpack their 2026 Event Fundraising Snapshot report and reveal what's really driving results in the sector. Despite cost-of-living pressures across the UK, event fundraising raised over £235 million on JustGiving alone in 2025—a 6% year-on-year increase. But the data reveals a surprising truth: 71% of charities that exceeded their event fundraising targets had one thing in common; leadership teams that made events a key priority.
Pascale shares the standout case study of Endometriosis UK, a small team that doubled their event income to £250K by starting small, tracking demand, and proving results to leadership. Their secret? Focus, efficiency, and making fundraisers feel valued- not a massive budget or team.
In this episode, you'll discover:
- Why 71% of successful charities prioritise event fundraising at the leadership level
- The gap between belief and resourcing: 78% say events are essential, but only 28% feel properly resourced
- How running events (especially 10Ks and half marathons) are driving the fastest growth
- The biggest challenges facing charities: cost-of-living pressures, rising event costs, and staff burnout
- Why 1 million fundraising pages and 18 million donations prove the public's commitment hasn't disappeared
- Pascale's advice on making the internal case for event fundraising investment
- What's next for JustGiving, including exciting AI developments on the horizon

It's Payroll Giving Month, and we're diving deep into one of fundraising's most overlooked opportunities. Host Simon Scriver welcomes back Mevi Slade from Cancer Research UK and Ollie Lashbrook from Macmillan Cancer Support—both linvolved with the CIOF Payroll Giving Special Interest Group, to explore why this tax-efficient giving method deserves more attention.
In this episode, you'll discover:
- What payroll giving is and how it works (spoiler: it's simpler than you think!)
- Why 59% of people have never heard of this scheme—and why that's actually good news
- How to overcome the "it's too laborious" objection from employers
- The role of Professional Fundraising Organisations (PFOs) in donor recruitment
- Why running payroll giving internally gives you the perfect case study for corporate partners
- How to position payroll giving as an employee benefit, not just another admin task
- Why this income stream works for charities of all sizes—not just the big players

In this episode, host Simon Scriver sits down with Christina Poulton, the creator of The Boring Fund—a micro-grant initiative that started as an Instagram joke and turned into a movement that awarded 43 grants to small charities across the UK.
Christina shares how a post featuring her daughter's teddy bear as "Chair of Trustees" went viral in the non-profit world, sparking over 500,000 engagements and revealing a desperate need for funding that covers the unsexy essentials: insurance, web hosting, accountancy, shelving, and yes- even biscuits for community groups.
In this conversation, you'll discover:
- Why traditional grant applications are built on mistrust rather than partnership
- How Christina stripped her application process down to under 5 minutes
- What happens when charities can't afford the "boring stuff" (spoiler: they reduce delivery or close down)
- The emotional relief organisations felt when they didn't have to "dress up" what they actually needed
- Why The Boring Fund is going open-source and spreading to countries around the world
- How funders can learn from this accessible, transparent approach to grant-making
If you've ever sat on a rickety chair writing a grant application for someone else's shiny project while your own operational costs go unfunded, this episode is for you.

In this episode of the Fundraising Everywhere podcast, host Simon Scriver sits down with Georgia Aker, Head of Events at Spinal Research and Fundraising Everywhere member, to unpack one of the most impressive events fundraising growth stories we've heard.
When Georgia joined Spinal Research post-COVID, the charity was bringing in around £100,000 annually from events. Fast forward to 2025, and they've raised £630,000—a 6x increase in just a few years.
But here's the twist: they achieved this growth while losing over half their London Marathon places (from 170 down to 80) due to ballot changes.
In this conversation, Georgia shares:
- How they used "zero-risk" event partnerships to expand their portfolio without upfront costs
- The game-changing impact of introducing first fundraising targets (which added £100K in year two alone)
- Their approach to converting cold event participants into long-term supporters
- Practical tips on Meta advertising, relationship building, and managing a lean events team
- How they're making events more accessible across all budgets and fitness levels

She reveals the secrets behind her most successful fundraising strategy: donor-led pledge dinners that have raised up to £100,000 in a single night.
In this episode, you'll learn:
- How to organise donor-led events that turn guests into long-term supporters
- The power of the "pledge moment" and why asking on the night is so effective
- How to identify the right people to host events (and why not everyone is suited for it)
- Practical tips for contact mapping and guest list development
- How AI tools like ChatGPT are transforming fundraising workflows
- Why relationship-building remains at the heart of successful fundraising, even after 30 years
Angie also discusses the challenges facing fundraisers in 2025, the importance of cross-team collaboration, and how the Children's Trust raised a record-breaking £240,000 during the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

To celebrate our upcoming Face-to-Face and Telephone Fundraising Conference coming up on Thursday 23rd April, we’ve decided to hand the mic over to our guest host Rory White in this special series of episodes called 'It Started On The Street'.

"If you’ve worked in fundraising, you’ve probably come across Danny McDonnell or at least heard his name. He’s incredibly well known in the sector, with a fascinating story that starts in Manchester, where he worked as a club promoter in the music industry before discovering his passion for face-to-face fundraising.
From there, Danny’s journey took him overseas, working with international organisations, leading massive operations, and raising phenomenal amounts of money for good causes. He’s someone who took a chance on himself, and it paid off, building a hugely successful career in the process.
Danny is inspiring, motivational, and always a joy to talk to. Positive, energetic, and full of insights from his years in the field.
I know you’ll enjoy this conversation as much as I did."

We are inundated with information every day – from TikToks to billboards, people are vying for our attention everywhere we go. This scrap for attention is starting to really impact corporate fundraisers: the average office worker receives 121 emails a day, meaning our approaches to companies are often getting ignored.
Ann Avarne moved from the world of private banking to the world of corporate fundraising in May 2023. In that time, she’s brought her understanding of what corporates need to the softness of how charities communicate. Working with Fireside Fundraising, she’s been able to find a ‘best of both worlds’ approach that has landed new partnerships, hit targets and she is now looking to grow her team.
In this session, Andy King from Fireside will share some of the frameworks that’ve underpinned this effective communication – Ann will then give live examples from DEBRA’s corporate partnerships programme. You’ll leave with a clear framework for improving your communication and a clear understanding of how/why DEBRA are nailing their corporate comms.
Key learnings from this session:
- How to cut through the noise in an increasingly competitive corporate fundraising landscape.
- A five-step framework for how to tell a story in a boardroom that’ll get the company climbing over the table to support you.
- How to adapt that story to writing so that colleagues can become advocates for your cause.

Join Eoghan Beecher, County Manager UK & Ireland of iRaiser, as he discusses growing your individual giving digital product portfolio.
Charities often produce an online donation page that suits all supporters, but asking engaged supporters to go through an entire first time donor process every time they wish to support can be impersonal, and create friction which leads to a poorer supporter experience.
Understanding your audience and how they engage with you will indicate different experience and different expectations of what a excellent supporter experience is, which will indicate that different supporters benefit from products designed for them.
From simply streamlining a second gift ask, to creating complex value exchange products, fundraising in a way that boosts relationships with donors will drive more revenue and result in a loyal supporter base. Understanding what a product is, or can be, is vital for this!
Key learnings from this session:
- Audience creation and management
- Attribution and analytic
- Product design
- Media buying
- Retention

Murphy herself has a rich and varied background, and I found her thoughtful, insightful, and genuinely inspiring to talk to.

"Charlotte Forest began her fundraising career with Push, a well-known agency at the very start of face-to-face fundraising in the UK. After that, she moved to Gift, where she built a long and varied career — starting out as a fundraiser, then stepping up to team leader, and eventually managing multiple regions across the country.
This gave her an incredible breadth of experience before she transitioned into the charity sector when Gift closed. Today, she’s Director of Income Generation at a hospice in Swindon.
In our conversation, Charlotte shares how the resilience and skills she developed on the street shaped her career, and how those lessons continue to influence her work today. It’s a really insightful and enjoyable discussion — I think you’ll get a lot from it."

"Ryan Valasapali’s story is a fascinating one. He came to Sheffield from India to study for an MBA — and when he arrived, the whole city was covered in snow. He’d never seen snow before, and it was quite a shock!
Just three months into his new life in Sheffield, his dad — who had been helping support him financially — told him over the phone, ‘That’s it, son. No more money. You’re on your own now.’ So Ryan went out to find work, and that’s how he ended up joining Home Fundraising. His first week was tough, and he was ready to quit. In fact, he was on his last door of the day, planning to hand in his kit after that… but that final door completely changed everything for him.
Seventeen years later, Ryan is back in India, living in Bangalore, working as a director at one of the country’s major fundraising agencies. I really enjoyed hearing his story — how that one pivotal moment shaped his whole career — and I think you will too."

"This was a really interesting one. I first spoke with Sally Wynter, who started in face-to-face fundraising at just 18. In her first week, she hadn’t managed to get any sign-ups, and she was on the verge of losing her job — but her team rallied around her, and her manager decided to give her another chance. That turned out to be the right decision, because Sally went on to become a brilliant street fundraiser and, as you’ll hear, eventually an entrepreneur.
Then, about a week later, I happened to speak with Dave Morris — and it dawned on me that he was actually the manager who made that call to keep Sally on all those years ago.
I thought it would be fascinating to bring them back together for a conversation: to reminisce about those early days, and to talk about how their careers have evolved since then. Dave has gone on to have a hugely successful career in the charity sector, with more achievements still to come.
I really enjoyed this one — hearing their perspectives on each other, on fundraising, and on what they’ve both learned along the way. I hope you enjoy it too"

"I first met Kiah Nicolas when she joined the British Red Cross — one of our Flow Caritas clients at the time. She started her career as a street fundraiser and quickly stood out, rising through the ranks with incredible speed.
During her time there, she took on major responsibilities: leading and managing teams, overseeing forecasting, budgeting, and everything that comes with running a high-performing fundraising operation. Now, just a few years later, Kiah is Head of Fundraising at the PEP Foundation — a testament to her drive, her talent, and her work ethic.
Join us as we talk about her journey, the lessons she learned on the street, and how those early experiences shaped the brilliant fundraiser she is today."

"It was such a pleasure talking with Alf Cowan. In fact, our conversation went on so long we had to restart the Zoom because we ran out of time — I think we ended up talking for a couple of hours!
Alf is a really thoughtful guy. After university — where he studied business — he unexpectedly found himself working in face-to-face fundraising, which was a real revelation for him at the time. From there he moved into the charity sector, working directly for charities on their face-to-face programs, before transitioning into more of a data and analytics focus.
Today, Alf is Head of Charities at MediaLab, but he still draws heavily on his early face-to-face experience. He regularly visits frontline teams to stay connected to that perspective, and it really informs the campaigns he creates for clients.
He’s insightful, reflective, and a genuinely nice person to talk to. I think you’ll really enjoy this conversation with Alf Cowan"

"I was really intrigued when I first spoke to Seth Piper. He’s someone who started his career in face-to-face fundraising in the UK, before moving over to Scandinavia, where his path took an unexpected turn. Seth went on to work with Greenpeace, playing a key role in establishing their face-to-face operations in Scandinavia. Now, he’s brought that wealth of experience into the world of politics and grassroots activism — training campaigners and organisers on how to engage with people effectively.
I found that crossover from face-to-face fundraising to political and grassroots work absolutely fascinating. It’s not something I’d come across before, and I think it offers a lot of insights for anyone working in engagement, campaigning, or advocacy. So, I hope you enjoy this conversation with Seth Piper"

How to you approach conversations about legacy giving that put values at the centre? That are about stories, not about death and dying.

In this engaging, conversational session, Canadian legacy experts Jen Love and Fraser Green are going to show you some of the tips and tricks about legacy giving conversations. We all know how important high value legacies are. For most of us, good years are driven by this high value legacy group, and when they come, suddenly everyone is interested. But what if they don't come? What should we be doing now to make sure they come in the future?
When I am older, wiser and being invited to legacy stewardship events myself, I want the pride of knowing that the biggest legacy I left for UNICEF was the work that I am doing now to help grow the top 2 per cent. Good thing I've got at least 20 years before I retire, because there is a lot to do and surprisingly very little understanding in the UK about wealthy individuals and what they are planning for their legacy giving.
In 2022 I commissioned Legacy Voice to undertake some research into high value supporters and legacy giving for UNICEF and am happy to share some of what I have learned.
Come and find out, from a fundraisers perspective, what you need to know about this audience, some of their motivations, a surprising competitor right under your nose, and what you might need to think about at your charity

The fear of rejection, someone saying no, is very real with many, many fundraisers’. So if this is you, you're not alone! But it can stop you building great major donor relationships - picking up the phone to donors, meeting them with confidence - and ultimately raising more.
There is a growing body of evidence that giving is good for people! And in major donor fundraising we have the unique privilege of being able to understand and connect with donors one on one.
So how can we use and understand the psychology of giving and this evidence to overcome that fear?

In a data-driven society, we know that data is important to make good decisions. But as we all know that can be easier said than done, particularly in charities. In this session, we discuss the foes of data: the seven deadly sins of data practices that actually short-circuit our decision processes. Next, we discuss the foundations of good strategy and how many times we conflate other ideas with strategy. Finally, we talk about the features of good strategy. At the end, you'll be able to answer the question: does your data help you focus so that you can make the best decision possible and do the next right thing.

"Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it”
Fundraising has a history full of innovation and stagnation, inspiration and scandal. But as fundraisers we know relatively little about our own history.
If you ask a fundraiser about what has come before, you might hear answers like “we tried that once in 1983, and it didn’t work” or “we have been doing it since 1983, and it works, so don’t change it.” But if you look more closely, you can find examples of “innovations” that appear to have been introduced in the 80s or 90s that were actually pioneered in the 1880s or 1790s. What other gems lurking in the cupboards of our past have we yet to discover?
In this episode, we’ll take a look at fundraising’s history to explore questions that can help guide our future.

Over the last six years, Bloody Good Period has grown from a Facebook post to a charity working with over 100 organisations around the country, providing vital menstrual supplies to asylum seekers, refugees and anyone who cannot afford them. Establishing a bold, recognisable and unapologetically direct tone of voice has allowed Bloody Good Period to carve out a unique space in the charity sector, and build a loyal following of supporters and ambassadors. It is, without a doubt one of the few charities that has not just supporters, but fans.
Tom Cornfoot, Creative Director and founder of A Studio of Our Own — Bloody Good Period’s creative agency — and Gabby Jahanshahi-Edlin, founder of Bloody Good Period, will be explaining the importance of tone, language and attitude as the foundation for brand personality. Forget everything you think you know about pirates. Painted as rogues and villains by history (and Disney), they were in fact the social revolutionaries of the 1700s. They didn't just break all the rules, they rewrote them entirely and pioneered some radically progressive new ideas.
Be More Pirate is a book, philosophy and global network that helps individuals and organisations apply pirate tactics and tools to update outdated rules, norms, practices and processes.
From headteachers to healthcare, this session will offer you practical ideas for change and demonstrate how some of our modern 'pirates' have successfully applied these strategies.
We're trying to solve 21st century problems using 20th century methods and it's not working. So many systems are failing; it time to find the courage and imagination to rewrite the rules. It's time to be more pirate!

In some ways, we're in a golden age of fundraising. There have never been more ways to capture attention, rally supporters, generate revenue, and measure fundraising performance than there are today. The accessibility of this technology has also never been greater, even to the smallest charities.
But with all the software, tools, apps and intelligence available to us, why has fundraising performance stagnated? Has technology actually gotten in the way of building a personal connection with our supporters?
In the book, Robots Make Bad Fundraisers: How Nonprofits Can Maintain the Heart in the Digital Age, Steven Shattuck explores ways to apply time-tested principles of philanthropy to the modern technology available to fundraisers - with the goal of keeping the donors we already have, inspiring new donors to give, and maintaining the sanity of our team members. Listen now to a chapter reading by Fundraising Everywhere's Simon Scriver.

What do Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, the Discover IT card, and successful fundraising all have in common? They’re all based on understanding how peoples’ brains work and how they make decisions. Product developers and for-profit marketers have all kinds of insight into what inspires people to buy a product. These scientific approaches have been used by the world’s largest brands…now it’s your turn. You can use these strategies today without a huge marketing budget, extensive testing (and waiting), or guesswork to raise more money or get more volunteers.
Listen to this episode to learn how! Our speaker, Cherian Koshy has taken advanced courses from Duke professor Dan Ariely and Harvard Business School in behavioral science. He has extensive experience understanding how donors think, how they make decisions, and how to use market research and other tools to get donors and volunteers to say “YES!”
In this episode, Cherin shares:
If you’ve ever wished you could read your donors’ minds, you’ll love this episode! You don’t have to be a neuroscientist to understand how your donors’ brains affect their decision to support your nonprofit—Cherian will show you how you can do it, too.

An opportunity to hear from Sufina Ahmad, Paul Amadi and Rini Jones, three leaders within the charity sector, about what leadership at both a governance and operational level means to them. The panel will discuss how they stay authentic as leaders, whilst also dealing with the burden of often being the only person in a room that is a leader with labels. The session hopes to debunk some of the myths of leadership and explore how we can all support each other to be the leaders that we are.

We find ourselves in a time of overwhelming challenges. The pandemic, climate change and discrimination are at the top of a long list of significant problems. These problems are too big for any organization to solve on their own. However, purpose-driven partnerships between companies and charities offer us hope and solutions. This is why, in partnership with Remarkable Partnerships and curator Andy King, we brought back Corporate Partnerships Everywhere for a second year.
This year's conference delivered an exciting line-up of international and expert speakers who provided cutting edge insight and recommendations on how to build corporate-charity partnerships that make a serious dent in charity missions.
In this week's Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, our Head of Growth Marketing, Alex Aggidis, had a chat with curator, Andy King, to reflect on the conference, as well as discuss key moments and ideas.

Just as fundraisers are getting to grips with the new Facebook updates, along comes another tech trend lighting up the digital world. Already the sector has seen charities including WWF and Giving Tuesday and launch their own NFT campaigns - but not without scrutiny.
Are NFTs the next big thing for online fundraising or are they a distraction?
In this discussion, we interviewed NFT experts and critics about their place in the not-for-profit sector. We explored both sides of the discussion to discover:

On 19 January 2022 Facebook limited its targeting options, admitting openly the negative impact on NGOs. This is only the latest of many changes, as the world’s largest social media platform is increasingly limiting the ability of cause-led advertisers to promote their brand, find new passionate supporters and grow revenue. As the Facebook advertising policy changes rapidly, NGOs are struggling to know where to go next, or even where to begin. In this episode, we look at how the ‘social issues’ advertising category affects NGO brands and share tips on how to approach this for your cause - through thinking strategically, expanding your creative horizons and maybe even looking outside of the “Meta” platform.

It’s 2021 and ‘normal service’ has not resumed.
We are still living through a pandemic that is disrupting all aspects of our personal and professional lives. At the same time, disruptive technology is helping us to respond, pivot, and develop new ways of connecting with each other. The rise of activism in the face of social injustice is disrupting the systems and cultures in which we work.
So where do we go from here?
It’s time for us to have some big conversations. To ask big questions. To put some old ideas to bed, and create new ways going forward. It’s time to disrupt our perceptions and preconceptions of what works, what doesn’t work and build the resilience and sustainability we need to produce and protect a bigger and broader range of cultures and heritages.
Let’s disrupt our thinking.
This year at #ArtsSummit we’re bringing you the brightest and boldest minds from across the world. Cultural leaders, fundraisers, experts, funders, and artists will push, test, and challenge your thinking and practice. Expect an afternoon of big ideas, essential provocations, and practical advice.
The summit will stream live worldwide on December 9th 2021. With two live rooms to choose from and move between, you’ll also get bonus download sessions, resources, and access to all the content for a further 30 days – so you won’t miss a thing no matter where you are in the world.

Linda Arnmark has worked in fundraising at Médecins Sans Frontières for 12 years and is now New Zealand Fundraising Manager. In that time, she birthed three boys and helped establish Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand. In fact, she was so involved and in love with Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand she termed it her ‘fourth child.’
Is launching a fundraising program in a new market all that different to raising kids?
Linda will explore the labour of love that went into establishing Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand and show the success of the first two years of fundraising. But raising a child or a charity doesn’t come with only rewards. There are of course challenges. Linda loves her baby number 4, but do New Zealanders know who Médecins Sans Frontières is, and if not, what is the best way to tell them? Given Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand runs out of Sydney, Australia, how do you get staff on board with such a mammoth task, taking on more work for no additional love? And how do you nourish a charity from a distance? How do you love donors from across the sea? Finally, where is Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand headed now she’s truly exited the baby stage and in the throws of the toddler years?

Lyrics
Ever since your first donation I watched you from afar, I would have loved to done approached you but GDPR, Fell in love with your gift and face Dear first name, Won’t you let me put you on my database?
Finally got you at my silent auction I thought I’d tell you how I feel My knees were knocking and my bucket was shaking, would you respond to my appeal But you left with my corporate sponsor and its playing on my mind To me you're a major donor but to him just a gift in kind
Dear first name, won’t you take my last name? I'm longing for your kiss Add me to your will Dear friend, wont you opt in to my list?
Now every day feels like a year end where I haven’t hit my goal, Like a Board and a CEO that won’t invest in digital. If you gave me a chance to prove it it would just be heaven sent, Our retention rate would be one hundred and fifty percent.

It seems like we’ve forgotten why we use mail merge.
Nearly 40 years ago word processing software introduced the idea to us (I say ‘us’ but I was just an eye-twinkle). It would, quite cleverly, allow us to print off a bunch of letters all saying the same thing, but with a word or two – like a name – changed between each copy.
It became commonplace for businesses. They could now print off hundreds of thousands of letters or bills or invoices quite quickly without poor Sandra having to manually update each one between printing
For a customer (or donor) it felt like they were the only ones that were getting that letter.
That’s hard to imagine now, isn’t it? Getting a printed letter with your details on and just assuming someone had sat down and thought of you while they were typing it.
But that was the point of mail merge: To allow a sender to send pretty much the same thing to a bunch of people. While the recipient felt like it was just for them.
Everyone was happy.
Nowadays, we use mail merge because we can.
In today's Quick Tip, Simon talks through how to use mail merge in the most effective ways in your direct mail and emails.
Simon chats to Gráinne Callan (twitter.com/grainnemarycal), Head of Support Recruitment at Greenpeace UK about how they're using Facebook Messenger (yes...Messenger!) to recruit a growing number of regular donors.

Simon's back from holiday (finally) and shares his quick tips on getting back to work, overcoming the post-holiday funk, and not putting too much pressure on yourself to get your fundraising going again.
Simon is on holiday, so this episode of the podcast is taken over by Julia Worthington (twitter.com/JuliaJuliaw)
Julia Worthington of Amber Coaching for Fundraisers interviews Amy Hinks, Development Manager at The Booth Centre, Manchester about corporate fundraising in a charity with less than one million turnover.
Amy has been at The Booth Centre for 5 years and has transformed their income from 75% grant funding, 25% from donations to the exact opposite, now donations are 75% with corporate income making up a large proposition of that, PLUS the income has doubled.
Julia talks to Amy about how to meet businesses that you can and want to work with, without any cold calling; the importance of living by your charities values and mission to ensure the corporate partnership is a true partnership, with both sides benefitting. They talk about charging for volunteering opportunities and the long-term hidden costs of offering corporate volunteering. Amy’s clarity about why the charity would turn down a partnership is refreshing and inspiring.
