In 1955 the Ealing studios comedy crew made their last feature film, a quaintly dark comedy about a heist gone wrong. Nearly 50 years later, in 2004 Joel and Ethan Coen wrote and directed a remake of the British classic. On it's release it received mixed reviews, at best. 18 years later we are here to final settle the score, which is the better comedy?

In 1993 two films came out, one shortly after the other. One, an indie darling that took Sundance by storm and received plenty of critical praise but barely made a whimper at the box office. The other, a bit more of a studio flick that made about double its budget back at the box office but didn't really gel with critics. Both were parodies of the state of gangsta rap at the time that were heavily inspired by 1984's This is Spinal Tap, and both had many instances of similar jokes and story beats. Today we're talking about CB4 starring Chris Rock and directed by Tamra Davis and Fear of a Black Hat directed by and starring Rusty Cundieff.
This week we discuss the sole directing credit to Bill Murray's name: Quick Change. Coconuts in butts, bicycle-broom-jousting, demonic guitar drifters, and other strange antics will ensue; this is a strange one.

In this episode we take a deep-dive into the short-lived high school dramedy series by examining "The Diary" and "The Little Things." Will we find out if Judd Apatow used to stalk Steve Martin or will we just argue about the best side characters? Maybe both.
In this episode we discuss a true modern cult classic, the Jorma Taccone helmed MacGruber from 2010. Half 80s action movie parody, half zany character piece, I may be jumping the gun here but if you haven't seen this film yet you absolutely should if you are interested in checking out one of the most insane, crass, filthy, and absurd comedies in existence! Send us your thoughts on facebook.com/gagreelpod or on Twitter @gagreelpod, email us at gagreelpod@gmail.com and check out our website gagreelpod.com!
The 1986 John Landis directed film Three Amigos is an interesting one. On one hand, the simple sitcom-esque style leads to a story and structure that never breaks quite the new ground needed to herald the film as a true classic. On the other hand, many of the jokes are so good it should be considered a real absolute classic. The comedy trifecta of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chevy Chase shouldn't be understated. Written by Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels and (believe it or not) Randy Newman, today we look into this film that was such a pivotal part of our childhoods.
In this episode we tackle the 1997 hit comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino. We discuss the making of, highs as well as the lows of the film, talk about the cast, as well as an in-depth discussion regarding how the film has aged.
2008's Pineapple Express, the first and pretty much only film in the Stoner Action Comedy subgenre. It stands out from the pack as a truly hilarious and ridiculous film even when only compared to other Judd Apatow produced comedies. On this episode we discuss a film that holds a special place in our hearts as a great comedy amidst a decade of great comedies. Join us as we breakdown this film!
The 1988 Martin Brest directed buddy comedy Midnight Run is an interesting one to say the least. If someone told me that Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin made a great comedic pair I wouldn't have believed them had I not seen this film. Let's break it all down and see what we find this week on the Gag Reel Podcast!
In a follow-up to our episode on It's Always Sunny and Sitcom Structure, we use the sitcom formula as an excuse to talk about our favorite comedy shows. In this case it's a truly classic episode of The Simpsons, Homer at the Bat. Sit back and enjoy as we discuss the episode beat for beat!
Let's discuss the 1963 epic comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It's a huge and sprawling movie with a cast as indulgent as the title. Nearly every comedy star on the planet at the time is in it, and the film is a slapstick extravaganza. On one hand it's a monumental achievement in comedy, on the other hand it's a bit long and bloated and the slapstick doesn't always land right side up. It's a strange piece of cinema from a strange period of film history. All this is the topic of this episode. Give it a listen and we'd love to get your opinion as well. The television sitcom, going back to the 1950s and all the way up to present day, has developed and followed a simple formula that all shows adhere to. From the most traditional three-camera shows to the wacky and irreverent stylings of more modern single camera ones, every sitcom script has a fairly rigid skeleton that all your favorite hijinks are added onto. In this episode we take a truly classic episode (Sweet Dee has a Heart Attack) of one of our favorite shows, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and break down the sitcom formula while also tying in a broader discussion of the show in general. Listen, laugh, and learn! Hit us up at gagreelpod@gmail.com, facebook.com/gagreelpod, gagreelpod.com, or Twitter @gagreelpod!
In this episode we breakdown one of the funniest films of the last decade! Starring Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer, Tim Meadows, Sarah Silverman, Imogen Poots, Joan Cusack, Maya Rudolph, Chris Redd and Seale.
