I started my journey in Southeast Asia on a group tour. I had so much fun with the people I met in Thailand, I ended up doing group tours in Eygpt, the Philippines, and Bali. I am doing my next group trip to Vietnam. You no longer have the excuse of waiting for someone to come with you because you will have 10 to 30 new best friends after the trip is over and probably will do another trip with the same group in the future!

Welcome back to the Marvin Chronicles
I post the gear I use in the show notes in case you are interested and want to support the show.
Today I am going to defend my belief that you should NOT wait to travel
This probably going to be gear towards US citizens

The share of the U.S. population with a passport stood at 27 percent in 2007 and that has now increased to 42 percent in 2017. That is because January 2007 when U.S. citizens traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda were required to have a valid passport. Previously, it was possible for them to enter those countries without one but the law was changed in the aftermath of 9/11. That rate will probably increase as well because of the Real idea which means you have to have certification on your DL or get a passport.
As impressive as recent growth has been, the share of passport holders still lags far behind other developed countries.
In Canada, 66 percent of people had a passport in 2016 while in the UK, 76 percent of people in England and Wales have one.
Travel has more or less been a part of life being a Navy brat, we moved from Japan, to hawaii, to mobile....

Canadians...often times in travels, A they hate being thought of as americans and B there in the middle of some years long journey. Add often times they are very nice...ehh
As I continue to travel I notice, it can feel like a young persons game. I dont say this because hostels and parties. I say this because its not easy getting to these places.
Long haul flight sitting for 15 hours
Foreign languages
Food safety
Stress
Walking the Sites
Siem Reap - There aint handles and safety standards.

Difference when your young you can maybe get a local experience, your more flexible, your more tolerant.
I can tell being in my 30s and meeting people in my peer group. You become accustom to certain niceties.
You prefer a private room instead of a dorm - so you are seperate
You are more aware of you energy levels and the desire to walk up at 2 am for a sunrise hike starts to diminish or staying out to have a drink.
You become accustom to routine. All these things I struggle with, I have try to find balance in pacing myself and I lack FOMO...
Look, I admit I am projecting my parents travel.
They can still travel, but the options start to become limited.
Your life gets more solidified as you get older. Your career, family, marriage, kids.
I am not saying you cant travel, I am saying the travel will be different, it will be less flexible.
You will choose a cruise ship versus a sleep train in Eygpt. Thats not bad, but remember your experience will be completely taylored to tourists and you wont experience the authentic ways people can live.

Traveling for long term now, I have experienced the less sexier side of travel. This episode we explore the tough lessons I have learned in my travels. This is not to stop you from traveling, however help you prepare for them. You cannot always predict the negatives, however you can be aware they happen and you are not alone in this. You sometimes only have how you react to them as your guide to a much happier place.
This episode I talk about how travel can affect your physical and mental health. The stress of traveling may force you to make poor choices when you travel. I give advice on how to prepare yourself when you find yourself sick in foreign country.
I often get asked if I am rich or won the lottery to allow me to travel long term. I always tell them I made it a priority and built habits that allowed me to save money, live with less, and enjoy life more.
