I’m constantly learning the value of working smarter and not just harder — this goes for both fitness and life. It’s so much harder in the application.
I have the constant struggle of envisioning where I can be 5 years from now but only having the resources and capacity for today. Anyone relate?? 😂

After leaving home I completed an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Lipscomb University (B.A., 1989) in Nashville, Tennessee, where I fell in love with the wonderful woman named Laura who became my wife. We made our way out west where I did seminary at Abilene Christian University (M.A., M.Div., 1993), and Laura did an M.B.A. There we learned to love the flat dry desert, the ubiquitous mesquite trees, and the good people of west Texas. Following a six month sojourn in Kenya working with street-kids and a vocational school, we made our way to the mid-west and made a home in South Bend, Indiana where I did graduate studies at Notre Dame in Moral Theology / Christian Ethics (M.A., Ph.D., 1999): there the Alabama boy who had deeply distrusted Notre Dame as a child (because they always beat Bear Bryant) learned to love Domers and Touchdown Jesus and Notre Dame football, and cold, snowy winter days cooped up in Hesburgh Library, long, dark days good for studying, with summer and fall days so crystal clear and beautiful that it made one simply grateful to be alive. I've been teaching full-time at Lipscomb University since 1999, a community I love and for which I am deeply grateful, full of many dear friends and outstanding colleagues. Laura and I have three sons whom we love, of course, more than words can tell, and have been grateful to raise them in Nashville. Since 2013, I've been flying sailplanes for my primary hobby. I have experienced deep suffering, the kind that makes you wonder how all those cracks you feel could ever possibly be glued back together again. And yet, through all of it, I have known the joy that is found in feeling God’s guiding hand as you take one step after the one before it, trusting that you’ll one day find healing and redemption. So I’d like to take you all on this walk with me, if you’re up for it of course. We’re going to talk about both the good things and the hard things and how they aren’t mutually exclusive. We’ll talk about things that may make us a little uncomfortable sometimes, but that’s only because we’re trying to grow. We’ll go slow and steady and take some breaks here and there. My own story has cultivated curiosity and passion centered around the resiliency of the human person: mind-body-spirit. This awareness guides my approach within the field of trauma therapy, resiliency, and post-traumatic growth.
I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Professional Counselor and Mental Health Specialist Provider (LPC/MHSP #4456) with a Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Memphis. I am a Certified Experiential Therapist (CET-1 #1058) and utilize the expressive arts as part of my practice. Additionally, I hold a Master of Arts (MA) in Speech Communication & Theater Arts and was trained in professional performance from the American Musical Dramatic Academy, New York City/Los Angeles.

Life is often like a game of cards; we're sometimes dealt a lousy hand. So, in life, it becomes a matter of what we're going to do with it. How are we going to choose to be faithful with the hand we've been dealt? We may not be able to control the outcome, but we can control how we choose to cling to hope, joy, adventure, and courage.
A scar is a healed wound. Often, we don't ever let our wounds become scars because we keep picking at them. We don't give them time to properly heal. Yet, we believe that we're at our best when our scars become stories of redemption, hope, restoration, and courage.

Today’s guest is my first cousin Todd Frazier. He is a person who I have looked up to since I was in elementary school. One of my first memories of him is during the annual Frazier football thanksgiving day , in the winter snow of Wisconsin, was him playing in only shorts and a t- shirt while the rest of us were all bundled up in a full snow suit. Todd is funny like that. His joy comes from resilience and his faith and his wife. Todd has endured a lot of trauma in his life, especially as a young kid. We talk about how his trauma affected his own faith and how it influenced how he and his wife raised their kids in Minneapolis, MN. We talk about his winter faith moments, his parenting, and his anger and sadness in his life. Also we briefly address how Christians and the church should respond to the death of George Floyd in his current city and how the Church should respond to the inequalities in our nation. Lindsay Wrege of 321 Coffee joins the show this week. 321 Coffee began when four NC State students came together and discussed the idea of creating an opportunity for meaningful employment for individuals with IDD. We began hosting pop-up coffee services at various events on campus and around the Raleigh area. At our first event, we set-up folding tables rented from the student union and served Starbucks coffee. These events helped us start developing a presence in the community. Many people rallied behind our mission, and we always came out of an event with new opportunities to pursue. We then opened on Saturdays under a tent at the North Carolina State Farmers Market, and our dorm rooms served as the test kitchen for cold brew and storage units for lots and lots of cups. It allowed us to grow a community of support around our mission, giving us the confidence to continue pushing the idea forward. Today, we are permanent vendors at the NC State Farmers' Market and employ 21 adults. Our space is a full-scale coffee kiosk, with everything from an espresso machine to locally roasted beans.

Hi, I'm Megan, I'm glad you're here. I started writing when my spouse and I decided to move halfway across the country to live in a disinvested neighborhood and work as children's pastors. I used to post recipes, and pictures of the kids we worked with, and cute young married people stuff.
After my daughter was born I started questioning my beliefs, and haven’t stopped asking questions since. These days I write my way through those questions about faith, and life, and who God is, and why people who say they love God don’t act like it sometimes. My first book, Born Again and Again, is a collection of my thoughts on lots of these questions.
I hold a Masters of Divinity, and am an unabashed nerd, which means I write with an eye on the academic side of things, but I think theology should dance with us, not put us to sleep. I think the deep, complex theologies in old, dusty books should be accessible for all people, even if they don’t read German. (I think the best theology wasn’t done by dead German guys anyway.)
I’m an extrovert to the core and love to talk about these ideas in real life. I’ve spoken at MOPS groups, the Milwaukee Multicultural Worship Leaders Network, the Christian Community Development Association’s National Conference, Northern Seminary, and at the Women Doing Theology Conference. In this episode, Andrew is joined by his very good friend Jonathan Hay. Both Andrew and Jonathan reflect and remember the life of their good friend Clint Crigger, who was killed in a car accident on May 13, 2020. Clint was a man who loved his friends and family. He was a seeker of knowledge and on an adventure to love others with his great big heart. His smile was contagious and so was his laughter. He was a great listener, which made him a rare person in the world. He gave great gifts and he just loved people. "The world needs more people like Clint," according to Jonathan Hay and Andrew very much agrees with him.
Friends, may hope and joy find you this day as Andrew and Jonathan sit with each other in their grief.

We could hardly bear it that 59 sets of parents were on the edge of their seats waiting for a call for help. We prayed, we dreamed, we sought advice. We decided to open Jenny’s Hope, a free grief center for children and adults.
No grief journey is the same. What is the same is the need for support. Jenny’s Hope is a place for healing and support found in hope, love and compassion.

Quaker theologian Richard Foster in his book, Celebration of Discipline,
includes several internal, external, and corporate disciplines one should engage in through his or her Christian life.
These include the followinginternal disciplines: Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, and Study.
External disciplines include: Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, and Service.
Finally, corporate disciplines, those that are completed within the body of the church are confession, worship, guidance, and celebration.

Ben's father Jim Brinkerhoff was a great father and teacher to Ben and many others and died tragically in December of 2013. Andy and Josh went to church together for many years and Josh embraces questions about winter faith and scarred faith. He has three books for sale including Scarred Faith and Reentry. Both of these books are talked about in this podcast. Josh has a scarred faith in due to the death of his sister in 2010.
In teaching his family and church family about his scars in faith Josh is able to connect deeply with many who seek out God despite pain and suffering and scars.. He preaches with passion and joy and is also willing to talk about difficult topics from the pulpit like the #metoo, immigration, politics, and mental health. He has been a minister at Sycamore View for 11 years. Josh and his wife have two boys and resides in the heart of the city of Memphis, a city Josh and his family deeply care about.
