Brooks Reynolds is one of the more interesting “food + Iowa culture” people connected to the Iowa State Fair.
He’s known as the co-founder of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, which started in Des Moines in 2008 under the Iowa Bacon Board and grew into a major bacon-themed event that has drawn bacon fans from far beyond Iowa.
He’s also the co-founder/owner of JR’s SouthPork Ranch, the cowboy-themed food, drink and entertainment spot at the Iowa State Fair. JR’s has quickly become one of the "must-see" venues at the fair. Stop in this year for one of their famous lobster rolls or the all-new chicken nugget caviar!
Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Coach Sash to the podcast for a great conversation about his coaching journey, his first season with the Iowa Hawkeyes and what’s ahead for the program.
Coach Sash takes us through his path from Indian Hills to DMACC, Drake, and now Iowa, where he helped guide the Hawkeyes to a historic Elite Eight run, the program’s first appearance in 39 years.
We talk about the emotions of that unforgettable season, what made this Iowa team so special, and what fans can expect heading into the 2026–2027 season.

This week we had the chance to sit down with fellow Iowa podcaster, Tim Flattery.
After an athletic career journey that included walking on to the UNI men's baseball team and eventually getting signed to the minor leagues, Tim decided to hang up the cleats. However, he still kept the "moonlighters", guys like himself that had to work a little harder to keep the dream alive, close to his heart.

Had a chance to sit down with Carson King at Goldie's Ice Cream Shoppe in Prairie City, Iowa. We first met Carson via Instagram Live days after his College Gameday fundraiser went viral. The beer fund that started as a lighthearted joke would go on to reach 3 million dollars after matching donations from Anheuser-Busch and Venmo. Carson chose to donate the money to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital to assist patients and their families.
This was a great chance to catch up with Carson and learn about how he's turned charitable work into a career.

The miraculous fundraising phenomenon continues for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Carson King inspired the nation with his incredible generosity, so much so that he's been the model for several young trick-or-treaters. Nine year old Sam Hall of Bondurant Iowa made a rendition of King's Venmo sign for Halloween that read, "Root Beer supply needs replenished, Venmo Sam Hall". In a short time Sam raised over $10,000 for the hospital. Nice work Mr. Hall!
