Tragedy, trauma, even unexpected blessings can cause a sudden shift in your well-thought-out plan. Most of us, at the very least, have an idea of what our today, tomorrow, and many tomorrows might look like. What happens when the unexpected forces us to take a detour?
The American Bible Society says, “The Bible provides comfort and clarity when the things we love feel like they’re slipping through our fingers. Inevitably, God will call us to let go of the past and follow his lead into new seasons of life, and that’s not an easy task.” Don’t we know it! Right? In one way or another, most of us know what a sudden detour looks like. But how we handle it, avoid it, escape from it or embrace it, makes all the difference in the world.

I sincerely think there should be a helmet law! Specifically, a helmet of salvation law. That would be great in my opinion, and yet I know that God gives us free will. We can armor ourselves up, or we can choose not to.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 encourages believers to put on "the hope of salvation as a helmet." This hope acts as a protective barrier, keeping our minds focused on God's promises and on the truth. Let’s face it between movies, social media, videos, podcasts, and even some sermons, we are assaulted with arrows of deception. We need to armor up.

From the time I was little, at home and in school, I was taught to respect our country, be thankful for freedom, honor the flag, and proudly sing “God Bless the USA”. I still do that today. In this episode of The Woman Inspired Podcast we talk about the importance of having internal freedom to follow the Lord’s call, and the responsibilities that come with that as well as the blessings and responsibilities that come from living in the USA.
I hope you’ll tune as we talk about Freedom and Free Will. 1 Peter 2:16 says, “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” That's my hope and prayer for all of us today. I pray we will choose to live as God calls us to live, and not as an ally of evil.

Are you just where God meant you to be? Unfortunately, many of us are so discontent with the season, the space, and the place we’re presently in, we stay distracted with thoughts of how to get out of where we are, instead of embracing where He’s put us.
“Bloom where you’re planted” is an often-used saying when it comes to purpose, contentment, and staying encouraged on this journey. Have you ever been able to look at a time in your life and say, "Yep, that was God!" or does it come out more like, "Um, that was God?"
"God appointments" or "divine appointments" are those unexpected, divinely, Godly-orchestrated encounters, situations, experiences, and moments in life that happen for a higher purpose and a heavenly reason.
When life gets difficult, and the challenges seem TOO challenging, we tend to forget that God's way is always better. Isaiah 55:9 says: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Trying to remember that God has time for each of us and cares deeply for all his children is difficult when we hurt, or become fearful. I recently found a quote that I share in this episode of The Woman Inspired Podcast that helps remind me that His way is far better than my own and that He has not forgotten me, you, or any of us!

“If you’re going to rob a convenience store, don’t forget the candy bar.” That’s the quirky title of the latest episode of The Woman Inspired Podcast.
Matthew 26:41 reminds us to pray so that we don’t enter into temptation. In this episode, I share about an incident I once witnessed where a man decided to rob a convenience store, but a last-minute temptation became his downfall.

Wisdom is defined as the ability to discern, good sense, and accumulated philosophical learning. When I think of wisdom, I can’t help but turn to the Bible, as well as think of people whose wisdom I miss - like my Dad, my grandma, and others. Some who are still here on this earth, and some are already in heaven.
As I was studying about wisdom this week, I remembered that when my grandma passed away at the age of 99, I wrote some things about her dealing with wisdom and knowledge. Choosing God in the face of fear
This episode of The Woman Inspired Podcast is about the midwives from the Old Testament who dared to deceive the Pharaoh in order to stop the killing of Israelite babies. (Exodus 1) Through their example we get a clear picture of what a holy fear and awe of God is and how much more powerful it is than the fear of a bigoted, cruel, King. Through these midwives, it’s clear that when God establishes our steps, a mindset of bravery is available to us. Without these midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, the events that unfolded later as the baby who came to be known as Moses was saved, would never have happened. Without Moses, the future for the Israelites, Egypt, and our present day would likely look vastly different than it does.

What does a strong woman of God look like? Defined muscles? Able to wrangle 7 kids, a job, and yard work all at the same time? Sometimes we think so. If you believe the pictures and posts of some influencers on social media, you’d believe that all women of God are readily filtered, photo-shopped, and exaggerated. You’d come to believe that a strong Godly woman is someone whose hair is perfect, and never turns gray. You’d think she was a woman who defied stretch marks, miraculously can’t gain a pound, and who never misses an opportunity to serve all the men at church, while never saying no to watching all the kids, and does all this with a smile on her face. But does that actually make a woman a strong woman of God?

One of my favorite quotes is, “I have a mustard seed, and I’m not afraid to use it,”…by John Ratzinger
Until recently, I didn’t think much about the actual mustard seed, except for the fact that it’s an itty, bitty little seed. Sometimes my faith has definitely been that small, and truthfully, even smaller than that. What I’ve discovered over the years is that the more I use my faith, the more it grows. Mustard seeds are amazing little things, and it’s no accident that they’re referenced in the Bible more than once.

For a long time I felt as if so much of the world had lost the ability to have compassion. I mean, look around and we constantly see jaded, evil-minded, self-centered people who don’t seem to have a care in the world except for caring for themselves, and gaining whatever amount of money, thing, or popularity could be had here on earth. But in the wake of hurricanes, tornadoes, people being hungry and cold, I’ve seen, and felt a renewed hope in mankind’s ability to tap into compassion. While I don’t know if it’s possible, my hope and prayer is that a true passion for compassion will sweep across the globe.

James 1:19-20 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

“God’s not done with you yet!”

In the latest episode of The Woman Inspired Podcast we’re talking about how unforgiveness affects your health. Science has caught up with what the Bible already told us, we should forgive!
Karen Swartz, MD. Director of the Mood Disorders Adult Consultation Clinic at The Johns Hopkins hospital is quoted on the Johns Hopkins website as saying, “Research determined that there is an enormous physical burden to hanging on to anger. Unforgiveness can make you sick. Chronic anger and unforgiveness puts you in constant fight or flight mode which results in numerous changes in heart rate, blood pressure and immune response. Those changes then increase the risk of depression, heart disease, and diabetes among other conditions. Forgiveness however calms stress levels which leads to improved health.”
The Word of God gives us gems like Ephesians 4:32 for a reason. “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” If it’s in the Word of God, it’s there for a reason. Is it easy to apply? No. Impossible to do? No. If God has asked us to do it, He will help us make a way.

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and then to find out the prisoner was you.” This quote by Lewis B. Smedes is far truer than some people can imagine. For those who have held on to unforgiveness for many years, the side-effects of it are toxic. Releasing unforgiveness and learning to embrace forgiveness of others and ourselves takes work but it’s a labor of love when you realize that you’re setting yourself free from the prison of resentment and anger.

What does it mean to be Christ-like? I researched this question and let me tell you, the answers I got were completely circular. “Christ-like means to mimic Christ”, “Christ-like means exemplifying Christ.” “It means having a Christ-like attitude.” “It means sharing Christ with others.” And those are only a few of the answers. I had to roll my eyes at some of the answers, laugh at others and just sigh in the end because very few times did the answer truly give a solid answer to the question.

Have you ever been duped? Tricked? Scammed? Led astray by someone you thought was good but turned out to be evil? The book of Matthew warns us about wolves in sheep clothing. That scripture is important for our journey with Jesus but also in our daily lives.
Like never before, we have a world that is crawling with hungry wolves. We also live in a world that believes the lie that “If it quacks like a duck, swims like a duck and walks like a duck, then it must be a duck.” With technology today, fake this, altered that and artificially generated everything, it’s easier than ever to disguise a raven as a duck.
So how do you garner wisdom and discernment to distinguish the fake from the phony, the wolf from the sheep and the ducks from the ravens…especially when you’ve been duped before and you’re feeling like a fool? James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

In sharing the Word of God, do worry you might offend someone else? Or are you bold enough to just put THE truth out there with love and compassion and let it stand for itself? Matthew 24:10, 12 tells us that…”many shall be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another… And because evil shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.”
This IS the world we live in now. But that doesn’t mean we should walk around worried that we may offend others by the way we live out our faith journey and grow our relationship with Jesus…and walk in truth.

I recently read a poem called, “Church is hard”. You may have seen it circulating online. The poem was written by Jacob Waldron. Excellent writing and SO on point. His writing sparked me to talk about why church is so hard and what the Bible says about church.
We have a road map to developing a healthy church in the book of Acts. In this episode we’re talking about how to make church NOT so hard and specifically about Acts 2:46-47, which says: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

What's a miracle to you? Is it things you can see but can’t understand, like the fact that some animals can regenerate limbs? Have you ever thought you couldn’t empathize with someone else unless you walked a day in their shoes? Not so. The Bible says in Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” (It doesn’t say, "Take their place for a day first so you know what it’s like to weep.") and 1 Corinthians 12:26 says, “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together…” Yet, our culture tells us it’s nearly impossible to relate to someone else or empathize with them if we haven’t walked in their shoes.
Truth is, we do have the ability to empathize and we each have our very own unique walk to take on this journey that teaches us and causes us to grow if we let it. We may have some similar experiences that help us relate to and understand each other but it doesn’t take one person stepping into another person’s shoes or onto their type of journey to be able to show compassion, concern, respect and care through empathy.
