Today’s episode I’m honored to have as my guest award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor Tony Ciccotelli. This episode is the first two-parter!
Tony and I talked a lot about screenwriting versus playwriting, what it means to direct feature and short films, film contests, and how to combine all of that into a life worth living!
I was teaching a Master's class at the University of Cincinnati's Digital Media and Production program and met Rachel Plum. She was interested in learning more about my career trajectory and podcasting, and I was interested in how she came back to the art in her heart after giving up at such a young age.
So we grabbed coffee, talked some more, and decided to set a day to record this episode. You're going to find out how to truly keep the Art in Your Heart!
Welcome everyone, my guest today is Kathleen O’Neil. By the way, we recorded this on location at a local coffee place so you will hear some background noise. It was my first attempt to record on location and it was quite fun, so bear with us.
I met Kathleen about 10 years ago. Although she doesn’t consider herself as such, she IS a playwright. That’s how I met her. But we’ll get into that during this episode.
Jesse Valencia is an actor, musician, writer, and filmmaker from Northern Arizona whose writing has appeared in Phoenix New Times, Flagstaff Live!, and The Big Smoke. He first appeared onscreen opposite Tom Sizemore in the indie crime drama Durant’s Never Closes, and studied screenwriting at the David Lynch Graduate School for Cinematic Arts at the Maharishi International University which is where I met him.

Sean is an actor with a hereditary disease who has created a sitcom that contains a message and gives opportunities to others with dreams of being an actor but because they have some illness or other handicap aren’t seen by Hollywood as viable and he wants to help keep their art in their heart.
A chance encounter makes for a lasting friendship. No, it's not a movie I'm writing (but I will keep that as a logline); it's the meaning story behind the story of this episode. I met Sean Gumbert at an audition I was holding. We got to talking and he agreed to be part of the podcast. And like, Rick and Louie in Casablanca, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

A lovely and informative talk with Julia Guichard, Professor of Theatre Chair & Chief Departmental Advisor at Miami University in Oxford, OH. We discuss how academia was affected by the pandemic and the innovative ways that creatives continued to bring theatre to life and their audience.
Julia has been teaching at Miami University since 1998. She holds a BFA in Acting from the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University in Chicago and an MFA in Acting from The Pennsylvania State University.
She is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, holding certificates from The Performance School and Alexander Technique International. As a guest artist, she has taught the Technique in the BFA acting programs at Carnegie Mellon, the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, and others. She has worked as a movement and vocal coach for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, and others.
Andrew is one helluva guy. He's a musician, screenwriter, YouTuber (is that a word or title?), an artist in more ways than one.

My guest is "Professor" Tom Miller (as he's known by those of use in the DLMFA 2020 Program) and he's from Gainesville, FL, the aforementioned center of the universe. The professor shares lots of wisdom in this episode about how to "do your stuff" and "make your vocation your vacation" which is hopefully that's what I'm going with this podcast.
