In her new book “Flawless” journalist and author Elise Hu looks at how in particular Korean Beauty or K-Beauty continues to influence and impact body image across the globe. From daily skincare, to plastic surgery to social media filters Hu unpacks it all from her time living in Seoul South Korea, the plastic surgery capital of the world. In addition to lessons in beauty learned Hu asks where do we draw the line when it comes to improving ourselves.

When Tala Raassi was 16 years old she was arrested by Iran’s morality police for attending a co-ed party and wearing a mini skirt. Her sentence: 40 lashes after spending 5 excruciating days in jail. It was a night that changed her life forever and eventually led to her using her love for fashion to find freedom. After moving to the US she became a fashion designer, even the official swimwear maker for the Miss Universe pageant at one point. Knowing the risks involved she has continued to share her story and speak out against the Iranian government and their treatment of women as second class citizens. With the current uprising following Mahsa Amini’s death Tala says there’s no turning back now. She believes the Iran revolution unfolding now is unlike any before and could spark real changed.

After nearly two decades of being homeless and at one point living in LA's infamous Skid Row Khadijah Williams was accepted into Harvard University where she graduate in 2013. After being closed for months during the pandemic the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has reopened. Some of it's newest acquisitions include George Washington's tea chest from China and the blue gown from 'Crazy Rich Asians'. They are among several objects on display that tell the ever changing Asian American story and struggle in the US. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have played key roles in shaping America's past in work, culture, politics and entertainment. Recently Angie joined a group of scholars, advocates and curators for a special night of sharing stories and amazing artifacts that can now be seen at the American History Museum. Covid 'hate crimes' against Asian Americans continue to rise. New analysis found a 164% increase in reports of anti-Asian hate crimes in the first quarter of 2021 compared with the same period last year.
