The reason it's so hard for some people, children included, to love themselves and why it drives them to thoughts of self harm and suicide. I did go on a bit of a tangent here, but this is a topic so close to my heart. Suicide and self harm does not have to happen if we are raised being taught to, and teach our children to, love themselves.  Please reach out if you need to speak to someone, contact one of the organisations in your area or a counsellor or coach near you. If you want to learn how to love yourself and role model it to your children, then consider joining Selfie School - you can find out more about that here https://www.selfieschool.me

So many of us go through trauma and events that change us, that force us in a way to become someone we don't want to be. Initially we do this 'unconciously', as an act of survival and trying to keep ourselves safe.  The 'demise' of myself started at the age of 3.....

I'm finally ready to be ME! It's taken me 7 years to get here, but in my opinion you are never to old nor is it ever too late to follow your heart and live the life of your dreams! Not only have I started saying yes to me, but I am saying yes to life. I'm keen to truly find out what life is all about without all the stuff that has held me back until now. To stop resisting life and to discover what I like and don't like. To trust that God / The Universe has my back. To start taking action and taking the steps to make my dreams come true, to live life on my terms.

On Friday I said yes to going for a swim, on Saturday I said yes to my friend Pam who asked me to go with her to Rome next month and then said yes to a teaching assignment that had been offered to me, today I said yes to my friend Kay who asked me to go on a girlie camping trip with her and our dogs. 3 Days in and I am so excited about all the yesses that are about to come my way.  Stay tuned as I will be sharing it all right here every step of the way.  With much love Deb x

Ps, just say yes!

Susan Schwartz brings Deborah McPhilemy to tears while sharing her story. Susan explains why she wakes up every morning with a smile on her face, despite having gone through past physical and emotional trauma. There is so much power in a shared story, but there is more power in living in the present.   We need to live in the present because that is where happiness lies.  Our destination is right here right now. Stop giving your happiness to someone else, someone you may not have even met yet; rather source happiness from within yourself ... that is the secret to eternal happiness.

10 Years ago empowerment coach & speaker Jason Archdale felt as though he was living in hell, along with his three companions: fear, anxiety and depression. The night he tried to commit suicide he lay on his couch holding his daughters picture, and whispered "sorry darling, I love you, but I have let you down". Jason managed to pull himself off that couch and changed his life's purpose in the process. He is proof that our reality is our decision, and that we just have to believe in what we decide. Jason changed his responses to his emotions and has been living an emotionally intelligent life ever since. He has prevented himself from lapsing back into that dark space he was in all those years ago. His strategy is simple: Instead of asking "why me?", he rather asks "what does this mean?". This enables him to find out what he needs to do to change his situation.

Jason reiterates that the universe does not give you what you need, it gives you what you are. You have to put the work in. "Everything is created twice, firstly in your mind and then secondly in reality". So if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. You have the potential to learn how to tune into the frequency of the life you want to live, and you can do this through Emotional Intelligence. Simply put, a mindset is based on your beliefs, which adjust your frequencies, and therefore determine your reality. When you change your beliefs, you will also change your story. Energy and mind are all linked, and we have the science and skills to help you create a healthy mind and your dream reality. Always remember that everything starts with a decision, and there is always a way!

Heather Prince opens up about getting divorced at 50. She explains how the hardest part was letting go of the the life she had spent 34 years envisioning.   Heather explains how a person going through heartbreak needs to do 3 things in order to heal: 1. Acknowledge the part they played in the ending of the relationship. 2. Reconnect with their sense of self. 3. Rebuild their relationship based on what they still have in common with their partner: their mutual love for their children.  Only once these three things have been successfully achieved can the heart truly start to heal. Heather learned to see the bigger picture, and used that foresight to help her go from being the victim to being the victor.

Lois Wagner opens up about her rape story, and why her story was not well received. Lois wrote a book to help other people understand rape. She explains how there is now so much confusion about how to behave, how to be a gentleman, and what defines rape. Lois explains that we need to take a positive and productive attitude towards one another and work on communication. Men need to understand femininity, and women need to understand masculinity. Only then will we be able to really relate to one another. How do we start understanding each other, and start letting people be who they are meant to be?

We must develop SELF-AWARENESS, UNDERSTANDING OUR EMOTIONS and MANAGING OUR EMOTIONS. YOU HAVE GOT TO START WITH YOU! Becoming self aware will ensure that we learn to forgive ourselves, and can then forgive others. We need to break the bonds holding us back so that we can fly free.

Karl Smith, an ex military man, opens up about why men need to start talking about their emotions. On August 4th 2006 Karl was having a beer when a car crashed into the side if his house. He went outside to help the driver, who was high on drugs, and ended up getting trapped under the car while trying to get the driver out. The driver reversed 60 yards while Karl was stuck under the car. Karl explains how his physical body was healing, but his mental health was worsening. He had post traumatic stress after the accident, causing him to feel angry and eventually become suicidal. Karl discovered hypnotherapy, and used it to recover from the accident. Hypnosis causes a kinaesthetic feeling within Karl, helping him release his emotions

Men often feel as though they cannot share their emotions, and we need this to change! Men who do not share their emotions are holding themselves back in their personal and work lives. Deborah and Karl discuss the importance of making men feel safe to share their emotions, and how to get men to release their feelings in the future.

Megan Choritz helps white people in South Africa take responsibility for their white privilege. Megan explains how we can empower people of colour by becoming empathetic towards them. It is the responsibility of white people to understand people of colour, so that they can start to see white privilege and white supremacy through the eyes of the oppressed. If you are white it is your responsibility to lean into the discomfort, so that you can invite transformation into the world for yourself and others.

Becoming EQ will help you see other people with empathy, and ensure that you become part of the solution to white privilege and help end systemic racist and white supremacy. All human beings need to be treated equally, and there is no better way to start than by becoming emotionally intelligent.

Jon Boyes discusses how Emotional Intelligence helped him overcome his fear of dying. He had a heart attack at 65 and developed an acute awareness for life, and the importance of living without fear.   Jon explains how we need to differentiate between feelings and reality in order to live without fear. Anxiety is a result of fear, and we can only overcome anxiety by letting go and living consciously. We need to accept that thoughts let feelings  in, and then we need to let those feelings out. We need to discriminate between thoughts that are useful and thoughts that we need to let go.

If you want to learn how to become EQ so that you can start living without fear, then order your copy of "Emotional Intelligence in a Nutshell" here: https://www.eqforall.org/courses/emotional-intelligence-in-a-nutshell-the-book-for-parents-and-teachers-read-on-any-device/buy

Saya Pierce-Jones speaks to us today about her experience in journalism and how she has learnt to approach victims of trauma in a way that will not make them relive their pain. Saying explains how the justice systems lacks empathy, and how journalists have the responsibility to tell a traumatic story without re-traumatising the victim.

Saya also delves into victim blaming, and how society often protects the abuser. She says, "the amount of false accusations about sexual violence pales in significance when compared with the truths that are being told, and truths that are not being believed".  This is such an important discussion that needs to be started.

In todays episode of The Daily EQ Show, Deborah McPhilemy speaks to her brother Roland Rennie about his attempted suicides, and how he learnt to live in peace again. Roland explains why he became suicidal, what his warning signs were, and the guilt he felt about having suicidal thoughts. Roland opens up about his depression, and how not seeing his children affected him mentally. He discusses the pressures and responsibilities of being a man, dealing with failure and disappointment, and how men have been programmed to define success.

If you are suffering from fear, anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts then please reach out. You are not alone, and we are here for you. Our ears are yours, and we promise to hear you, and give you the support you need. You can subscribe to our Emotique services where you will have access to qualified Emotional Intelligence coaches 24/7 here: https://www.eqforall.org/emotique/ (This service normally costs £99.99 pm, but we have discounted it to £9.99 pm for this month only!)

Often we are ashamed to feel self-pity, but that is because we have low self worth . Learning to love yourself again starts with realizing your value. Every singe person is important, and the sooner we all accept this, the better our relationships will be with ourselves. There is no shame in feeling depressed, it is a natural human emotion. We need to normalise speaking about difficult emotions ,so that we can create a safe space for anybody to reach out and ask for help if they are struggling. Once we have created this safe space we no longer need to fear rejection, and our mental health issues will have the freedom to be voiced and resolved.

Chantal Jax opens up about using humour as a coping mechanism, and the impact that it has on our ability to deal with the root cause of our mental health issues.   Socially we all have the same issues, but just on different spectrums. Jax discusses why we are all scared to admit that we actually all have the same problems. She points out that we can only deal with our struggles once we start normalizing conversations about them. However there is always a dark side as "the person who says it first, when people are not ready to hear it, will always be the person who gets the most flak for it; but that doesn't make the statement untrue". Jax discusses the new post-Covid19 reality, and why we are so scared of facing ourselves. She explains that when we avoiding talking about our problems, we can develop anxiety disorders and mental illnesses.

You can find out more about Jax and her comedy show on her @jaxxjustice social media pages.

So many people are unaware that we all have an invisible 'magnet' that attracts us to people. A force so strong that it will at times override your intuition, your common sense, and your voice of reason. For 18 years I kept getting back into the same types of relationships over and over again. Relationships that were disempowering, abusive and at times  violent. It was only when I became aware that my own personal magnetism  was creating this vicious cycle, that I was able to change it.

In this podcast with Marissa F Cohen https://marissafayecohen.podbean.com/ and Rob https://bobculture.podbean.com/.  I discuss what that magnet is and how I broke the cycle.

My book The Relationship Magnet is available as an e-book here or as a print book on Amazon. If you can't find it on Amazon, do a search under my name Deborah McPhilemy and you will find it:-)

Oprah Winfrey's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry brought up so many of my own feelings of when I moved to the UK ten years ago.  I too felt incredibly trapped, the culture shock was overwhelming, not feeling that I fitted in or was even wanted when I had so much to offer.  What became evident over the years was realising that a lot of my feelings of 'feeling trapped' was having an old belief of having to submit to my husband, that I was not in charge of my own life and decisions, which came from the era I was brought up in.  It took a lot of courage opening up to my husband talking to him about all of this and actually getting him to understand.  Today he is my biggest champion, my supporter my rock.  Today I live in total freedom with him by my side 100%.

What I loved most about this chat most was how Linda shares some fantastic tips on how to treat ourselves with the same love and attention as we do others.  Moms, caregivers and entrepreneurs give so much of themselves to others and often we forget about giving to ourselves.  I know that personally I have found it hard to give myself the same love, time and attention that I give to my children, my spouse and the rest of my family.  Linda's tips help you to put this into perspective and helps you to shift your mindset.
