Elder Chris preaches on Abram and Lot and the strife that existed between their herdsmen. Abram understood that it would eventually affect their family relationship. He asked Lot to choose which path he would take, and Abram would go the other way. This serves as a great example of how we are to deal with strife. Elder Chris explains that we are to be observant of those who have departed from Biblical teaching. The Apostle Paul instructs us to admonish twice and then separate. Elder Chris encourages us to be like Abram, who lived as a stranger in this land, looking to eternal things rather than temporal ones.
Elder James considers church membership as beginning with baptism. Jesus asked John the Baptist to baptize Him, setting an example for us to follow. How can one be obedient to God’s love while neglecting this first ordinance? He then points out the importance of attending church and assembling together. Each person is a part of the church, like members of a body, and every part is important — even the little toe that helps provide balance. Elder James explains that being an obedient member of the church is not always easy and may involve suffering, but it far outweighs any difficulties we may face.
Elder Mike opens service by turning to Isaiah. He tells Israel that they would be carried away into captivity, and they felt forsaken. Elder Mike explains that there is a special bond between a mother and her child. The only love that surpasses this is God’s love for His people. The least we can do is serve Him the very best we can.
In the first part of Hebrews 13, the Apostle Paul addresses things we should love and things we should not. He encourages us to let brotherly love continue. Elder Chris explains that one of the greatest evidences that we are God’s elect is our love for the brethren. We should first love Christ, then support one another, entertain strangers, care for those in bonds, and love our spouses as Christ loved the church. Paul also cautions us not to love material things, but to be content with what we have, because that mindset can hinder our love for people. We should remember God’s love for us, which is a dedicated, committed, and purposeful love that can never cease.
In Titus 1, the Apostle Paul says that his apostleship is according to the faith of God’s elect. This speaks of the truth given to the saints and his agreement with the principles of that truth. It was not merely theoretical, but had a real impact on him and on the lives of believers. We can rest in the fact that God made a promise and covenant with Himself concerning the eternal destiny of His saints. This truth should shape the way we walk, behave, and speak, living godly lives and looking toward the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul writes that we have not come to Mount Sinai, where we cannot keep the whole Law of Moses. It is a yoke of bondage that we are unable to bear. But we can rejoice in the doctrine of free and sovereign grace, accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalms describe Zion as a place of peace, joy, and perfect beauty—a place where Jesus reigns as the mediator of the new covenant between God and man. Let us have grace here, serving God according to the acceptable New Testament pattern, where Jesus shines upon us.
The Apostle Paul uses the account of Esau to teach an important lesson about our service. Esau sold his birthright for a single morsel of meat and was afterward denied his father’s blessing—losses he could not recover. He cautions not to drift in our Christian walk, allowing sinful influences to take root in our lives. Jesus Christ taught that the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, worth selling everything to obtain. Elder Chris explains that the field is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and the knowledge of sovereign grace. He encourages us to remember that when we possess something of immense worth, we must not be as Esau, who sold everything for something worthless.
Brother Paul turns to 1 Thessalonians, where the Apostle Paul writes that the church there became ensamples to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia. He explains that an ensample is like a deeply carved die that leaves an imprint or impression on others. Paul preached Jesus, and the people became followers with joy of the Holy Ghost, even in the face of affliction from those who did not believe. Brother Paul encourages us not only to give thanks to one another for encouragement, but also to thank the Lord for our church as we wait for Christ’s return. This expectation helps us endure trials and tribulations, knowing we have a home in Heaven, and makes Godly impressions on others.
Elder Chris turns to Exodus and the account at the Red Sea, where the children of Israel found themselves trapped— the sea before them and 600 chariots of skilled warriors behind them. Moses told them to fear not, to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, assuring them that He would deliver them. They were called to hold their peace and trust that God would provide in a miraculous way. He then points to Joshua, where Israel faces its first battle. As Joshua goes out to pray, he encounters the Lord Jesus Christ, the Captain of the Lord’s host, who gives him the battle plan. Though it seemed unusual, they were instructed to march around the city six times, and on the seventh day to blow the trumpets, at which point the walls would fall. Israel obeyed, and the city was conquered. Elder Chris explains that we may not always understand how the Lord removes obstacles from our path, but we are called to trust in Him, knowing He will provide.
Elder Chris reminds us that there is a race set before us, and along the way we will face hurdles. Jesus Himself faced constant opposition, yet He never stopped. In the same way, when we meditate on that truth, we are strengthened so that we do not grow weary or faint. The Apostle Paul teaches that the child of God will encounter difficulties, but our trials have not yet reached the point of bloodshed. Even so, that is no reason to give up. Our race is not finished until we receive our honorable discharge—our final breath. Elder Chris encourages us to always be mindful that trouble will arise, consider the Rock, and not complain about our lot in life.
Elder Tim teaches that sin and death bring separation, yet nothing can separate us from the love of God because of the blood of Jesus Christ. He points to Abraham and Lot, whose strife led them to part ways. Lot chose the well-watered plain—what seemed like the right decision—rather than staying with Abraham and working through their conflict. Elder Tim encourages us to be patient in our decisions, to look to God as the source of our help, and to rest in the assurance that our eternal salvation is secure.
In Hebrews 12, the Apostle Paul warns against turning back from the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the law. Instead, he shows that there is deliverance in pressing on in faith and believing the gospel. Elder Chris encourages us to keep these truths in memory, to diligently seek the Lord, and to look to the cloud of witnesses who did not give up. Paul instructs us to keep going by looking unto Jesus—considering every aspect of His life, especially Calvary—and remembering that He never quit. Let us lay aside the weight of the sins that trouble us and encourage one another to press on.
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8, laying out how all things work together for our good. He tells us that God loved us before the foundation of the world—predestinating us, calling us, justifying us, and glorifying us. If God has done all these things for us, who can be against us? In the final day, all enemies will be brought into subjection to the Lord Jesus Christ. Elder Chris encourages us to pause and reflect on the manner of love that has been given to us—that while we were yet sinners, we are called the sons of God.
In Luke 3, we see several powerful miracles of the Lord Jesus Christ. First, He commands Peter to launch out and let down the nets. Though they had caught nothing all night, they then brought in a great catch. Next, Jesus ministers to a man with leprosy, heals one sick with the palsy, and calls a tax collector into His service. In each of these moments, Christ’s sovereign power is clearly on display, including His authority on earth to forgive sins—something that was considered blasphemy by many. Elder Chris teaches that the Lord is always able and is fully capable of caring for us as well. He encourages us to trust not only in His ability, but also in His willingness.
In Acts, we see the church enjoying a season of peace. Soon, however, the first major conflict arises—and we’re shown how it should be handled. Some began teaching that works such as circumcision and keeping the law of Moses were necessary for salvation. In response, the church at Antioch called upon the Apostle Paul and Barnabas to help address the issue. Paul expressed amazement that believers had so quickly turned to another gospel, emphasizing that true circumcision is a matter of the heart, not merely outward observance. Elder James then explains that we should not focus on outward appearances, but on the inward heart when it comes to eternal salvation. He also outlines the structure of the church, highlighting a congregational form of government, and the importance to follow the New Testament pattern.
Elder Chris turns to John 14 where the disciples were troubled as Christ’s hour was at hand. He told them to fear not, He was going to prepare a place for them. When Thomas didn’t understand where He was going or the way, Christ explained that He is the way, the truth, and the life. Elder Chris teaches that there is only one way to God—the mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ—who has reconciled our separation from Him. Though many perspectives exist, there is only one unchanging truth, not something that shifts with time or opinion. As believers, we are called not to compromise that truth, but to hold it firmly with love and humility. Outside of the Lord, there is no life; He is the giver, sustainer, and sovereign ruler over all. Even when we were not seeking Him, He graciously sought and found us. It is vital to understand that He exists eternally of Himself, possessing all power and all knowledge. In this, we find great comfort, knowing that His promises are sure and that we can fully rely on Him.
In Hebrews 11, the Apostle Paul explains to these Jewish believers the foundation of their hope—the evidence of things not seen. The faithful of old, such as Abraham, died in faith without receiving the promises, yet they saw them afar off. They confessed that they were pilgrims and strangers in this world, seeking a heavenly country. Elder Chris teaches that God has placed something deep within us that testifies to the truth of His Word. We are blessed in our time to see the promise of Christ revealed, to have God’s written Word, and to look with confidence toward what He will yet do.
In Hebrews 7, the Apostle Paul shows how Melchisedec serves as a type of Christ’s ministry. Though little is known about him, Elder Chris explains that understanding Melchisedec helps us better grasp Christ and His work. Melchisedec’s name means King of Righteousness, and he ruled over Salem, meaning peace. Likewise, Christ lived a sinless life to bring reconciliation for us. Scripture records no beginning or end for Melchisedec, symbolizing Christ’s eternal reign. Even Abraham recognized him as a priest of the Most High God and gave him a tenth of all he had. Paul uses this example to urge believers to continue on in service to the true King of Righteousness and King of Peace.
In Psalm 144, King David has just been blessed to see the kingdom united under his reign. He praises the Lord for the peace that fills the land and reflects on God’s blessings—teaching his hands for battle and giving him strength in war. David calls upon the same Lawgiver who descended on Sinai to once again come down and deliver His people from their enemies. While others used their hands to destroy, David used his to praise the Lord. He knew his kingship existed only because God allowed it and recognized his continual need for divine deliverance. Elder Chris explains that we, too, need this daily deliverance—not only for ourselves but also for the good of others. David’s prayer extended beyond his own time, asking that future generations would also experience the blessings of God.
In Hebrews 6, just as Paul shows that Christ is greater than the angels and Moses, and provides a better rest than Canaan, he now reveals that Christ is greater than Abraham. Yet he does this by speaking highly of Abraham—an example of steadfast service and faith. Paul explains that God made an unbreakable promise to Himself to bless and multiply Abraham. In the same way, God has promised us an inheritance that cannot be changed. Elder Chris proclaims that Christ seated in Heaven, who made promises based on the eternal purpose of God, is our anchor—giving us a sure and steadfast resolve to press on in an uncertain world until the end.
The Apostle Paul begins to teach deep doctrines, but the people were dull of hearing. He compares the Jewish Christians to babes—unskilled in the Word of God. Elder Chris explains that the problem was not with the teacher or the message, but with the people, who had become complacent. The Word of God is essential for navigating the confusion of the world. It must dwell in our hearts, preparing us to resist the temptations that will surely come.
Elder Chris turns to Ephesians and reminds us that while we all long to be accepted by those around us, the greatest acceptance is to be “accepted in the Beloved,” the Lord Jesus Christ. When Christ adopted us into His family, we received an inheritance that can never be taken away. Elder Chris encourages us to live in a way that is pleasing to God—through our worship, words, and meditations—not to earn His acceptance, but because we have already been made accepted in Him, chosen before the foundation of the world.
In Hebrews 5, Paul introduces Jesus Christ as our Great High Priest. He understands our infirmities and was tempted in all points as we are. As fallen creatures we cannot bring anything acceptable to God. The offerings of the Old Testament could never truly take away sin. But our High Priest offered Himself—sinless and perfect—on our behalf. As Elder Chris proclaims, this one offering fully satisfied God forever, and encourages us to walk in a way that brings honor and praise to Him.
The truth of our eternal salvation is that Christ died for each of His elect. With this assurance, we can begin to work out our own salvation—not in the sense of earning eternal life, but in how we live here and now. As Elder Tim explains, godliness is profitable in this life. The more we read the Scriptures, pray, and attend the house of God, the more we experience a saving influence in our daily walk.
Elder Chris builds on Brother Paul’s message about being a prisoner of Christ. In Acts, we see Paul faithfully preaching the gospel of the Son of God. Yet the love of money drove some to lie about him, leading to his imprisonment. Still, Paul refused to let physical chains imprison his praise of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whether in this life or the life to come, our lives are not our own—we are the Lord’s, servants of God. Elder Chris declares that Christ is a gracious Master, far greater than the bondage of sin could ever be.
Brother Paul reflects on the events of our world today. In Philemon, the Apostle Paul describes himself as a prisoner of Jesus Christ. Though he was physically imprisoned for preaching Christ and standing for truth, he was spiritually free. He wrote to Philemon with care and compassion, rejoicing in the unsearchable riches of Christ despite his circumstances. Brother Paul reminds us that even when life drains us—sometimes unjustly—Christ, our strength, is always with us.
Psalm 68 speaks of the great God of Israel, who scatters His enemies and dwells among His people. God led Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness, and into the promised land—a powerful spiritual metaphor for our own lives. Though His people lay among the pots, He likened them to the wings of a dove covered with silver, with feathers of shining gold. In this verse, Psalm 68:13, we see the message of salvation by grace. The pots of that time symbolized trash, filth, and brokenness, reflecting the depraved state in which God found us. Yet Elder David proclaims that through Christ, we are transformed into glory.
Throughout the Bible, we see how God cared for Israel. In 1 Kings 17, during a severe drought, God had a purpose. He directed Elijah to the brook Cherith, where ravens fed him. When the brook dried up, God led him to Zarephath, where a widow sustained him with cakes made from flour and oil that God provided each day. Elder Hollis reminds us that no matter what we may face, God will always take care of us.
Paul reminded the Jewish Christians of their forefathers, who murmured and failed to enter the land of Canaan. Instead of trusting God’s promise of rest and walking by faith, they relied on sight. Even Joshua and David could not bring them into complete rest. In Hebrews 4, Paul urges us to revere God, believe His promises, and enter His rest by ceasing from our own works, just as God ceased from His. Elder Chris explains that God is fully satisfied with the work of Christ. Because of this, we now have peace with God and no longer need to strive to establish our own righteousness. We can come boldly to the throne of grace to receive mercy we do not deserve.
The Apostle Paul, in Romans, speaks to us about the Christian walk. He reminds us of our wretched state—dead in trespasses and sins—but also gives us good news. In Romans 8, he offers words of comfort and assurance: we are no longer condemned, Christ alone has dominion over our lives, nothing in this world compares to what He has prepared for us, no opposition can prevail if God is for us, and nothing can ever separate us from His love. Brother Paul assures us that one day we will fully grasp the greatness of God’s love.
The Apostle Paul points Jewish Christians to the Old Testament as a reminder of the mistakes we must avoid. After God delivered Israel from bondage in Egypt, they murmured and complained. Because they provoked the Lord with unbelief and evil reports, they never entered the land of Canaan. While our eternal salvation is secure, Paul instructs us to take heed and not lose sight of God’s greatness and power—for doing so robs us of blessings in this life. Instead, he urges us to exhort one another daily, so that sin does not deceive us into unbelief and cause us to miss the earnest of our inheritance.
In Hebrews 3, the Apostle Paul contrasts the Old and New Testaments by showing that Christ has greater glory than Moses. To the Hebrews, it was striking enough that Christ was exalted above the angels—but even more so that He was placed above Moses. Elder Chris explains that while Moses was a faithful servant, he was still only a man. He points out Moses’ faults, reminding us that we should not exalt him too highly. Moses was a servant of God, but not the ultimate Servant. When we look to men, we find flaws that can distract us from the true rest found in Christ. Paul urges believers not to turn away from the truth of the gospel: that Jesus has fully paid it all.
Daniel 11 is so precise in its prophecy that scoffers claim it must have been written after the events it describes. Elder Chris examines this period when God was judging His people—a time when Heaven was closed to Israel until the coming of John the Baptist. Yet even in this great darkness, with no prophecy, there were some who stood strong, refusing to fear their enemies or bow to false images. Just as those in Daniel’s time resisted, Elder Chris encourages us to stand firm against the corruption around us, remaining faithfully devoted to Christ, who was faithful to us even unto death.
Elder James explains that the teachings of the Bible must always work together, and that the doctrine of election fits in harmony with the rest of Scripture. He refutes the view that all of God’s people will hear the gospel, believe, and then receive eternal salvation. Instead, Elder James emphasizes that being born again is the true way. It is God who saves us and calls us to a holy calling—not according to our works. Elder Chris concludes the sermon by affirming that any gospel which takes glory from Christ and places it in the hands of men is not the true gospel.
Elder Chris expands on the office of deacon regarding holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. The mystery is now revealed in that God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Elder Chris explains that we must hold on to these truths, unyielding, and live a life in accordance with them.

In Isaiah 51:5, he speaks of islands as remote, desolate, and poverty stricken places. But even God’s people in these forgotten places are not forgotten by God. Elder Chris gives the example of how the Lord opened Lydia’s heart and Paul was sent to a desolate place and she was attentive to the things spoken by Paul. Elder Chris points out that in our depraved state, salvation was so far away, but thankfully God brought the arm of salvation, Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians when the church began to embrace the idea that in order to be a good Christian, they must first be a good Jew. But everything that was required in the law was taken out of the way by Christ and he has made us free. He instructed that if we are born again, we are to seek and set our mind on things above. We can do this with humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering, forgiving, and as a capstone, charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

Brother Paul brings to mind interactions between the Lord Jesus Christ and his disciples. We find where Christ drew them in close and let them know how much he loved them with action. Brother Paul examines John 15:9 “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.” Christ gives us a commandment that we are to love one another, and Brother Paul proclaims we can look to Christ for the greatest example of charity.

Paul opens the letter to Philippi differently than other letters. He called out the saints with the bishops and deacons, which tells us what makes up the New Testament church. Elder Chris considers the office of deacon and points out that it not about ego, title, or influence. It is first and foremost a servant role. The office is inaugurated in Acts 6 when the needs of the church were beyond what the ministry could do. Elder Chris points out the word deacon means a “waiter of a table” or a “runner”, quick to the need. With a church body that is well fed spiritually by the elder, and the needs well tended to by the deacons, a strong healthy body can grow in grace.

We find the phrase “as he went” seven times in the New Testament, all concerning the goings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Elder Chris considers each portion of scripture and reminds us that as Jesus went about doing good, he established his church and preached his gospel, and took time to deal with illnesses and problems that affected so many. Elder Chris leaves us with a rejoicing thought that as he went to glory, we will join him in Heaven someday.

In Hebrews the Apostle Paul instructs that we are to be content because we are promised He will never leave us nor forsake us. Elder Chris thinks on this verse when he considers the crucifixion. Jesus suffering of the cross was done so that we will never have to endure the punishment for sin. While we may feel abandoned or alone at times, we have comfort in knowing He is always there.

Elder Chris explains that while the gift of salvation is free to us, it cost God everything, the life of His dear son. If we are to be dedicated followers of Jesus Christ, there is a cost. But Elder Chris encourages us that we can never out give Him, and there are great blessings in service to the Lord.

Ezra faced things he didn’t intentionally plan for or know about. In the past the Lord had worked through miracles to deliver the children of Israel, but this time it would be through providence. Cyrus would let the children of Israel to go back and rebuild their temple. But when the foundation complete, the older Israelites that knew the temple before were saddened that it did not match its former glory. Ezra is burdened to adorn the house of God. Elder Chris points out to adorn it is not to simply beautify the building, but it is to maintain its principles and practice, show our love to God, and love one another.

Elder Will proclaims that Heaven is given to us without our works. Jesus did all the works necessary to secure our eternal salvation. But Paul charged the church at Philippi to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Elder Will points out there are two contexts under consideration here, salvation eternally, and salvation in this life. God has given us the capability and burden to do good things while we live here and it is good for us to do them.

Elder Will turns to Acts where we find the origins of the churches at Galatia and there they preached the gospel. He points out that while the gospel does not give us eternal life, it is important and enough to sustain us in our Earthly walk. We come together to hear what Jesus Christ has done again and again.

The Galatian church was teaching that Christ has done it all, except circumcision was needed for it to apply to you. The Apostle Paul marveled that they had turned away so soon from the gospel of Christ. In Galatians 5 he talks about the ramifications of what they were teaching. The truth of knowing that Jesus paid it all gives liberty and freedom, but adding a work to it would put them back in bondage. Paul explained that if their thoughts were true, they would be a debtor to the whole law and would live under the curse. But thanks be to God that Christ fully removed every claim of the law and made us righteous before God.

In Luke’s account of the Savior’s visit to the city called Nain, we find the funeral of a widow’s only son, and the Lord raises the son back to life and gives him to his mother. Elder Will explains that at times we can be enriched by those around us, but especially the Lord, and encourages us to glorify Him just as this widow did.

Elder Adam turns to 1 Samuel where we read that Samuel delivers a difficult message to king Saul that he had sinned by not wiping out the Amalekites and keeping king Agag alive. Samuel told Agag come here and he met vengeance. Elder Adam points out that God has every right to demand obedience, but when Jesus says come here to me, we are changed. It is comforting to hear Jesus say come here, and enjoy His presence of peace.

The point of the law is to let us know what is wrong, it was not for the purpose of delivering us from death to life. The Apostle Paul understood the law of Moses very well and thought he was perfectly keeping it. But when he was born again and the law was written in his heart, he could see his sin and felt guilt for what he had done wrong. He breaks down the law by instructing us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and expands on the works of the flesh that we should avoid. Elder Chris encourages us to live and walk in the Spirit that leads to great blessings.

Paul deals with the thought that in order to be a good Christian, you must first go through the door of Judaism. Circumcision became a significant issue. It is in our nature to do something to help Jesus along, but we totally fell in Adam. To achieve salvation, the entire law has to be kept which we have all fallen short of. Paul cautions to not become entangled in the bondage of the law, but rather stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free. However we are instructed to maintain the law of loving each other as ourselves, and he has given us His Spirit to maintain and keep it.

Paul writes in the Galatian letter that the death of the Lord Jesus Christ delivered us from our sins and from this present evil world. When we are born again, we have the ability to overcome this world. But Paul marveled that in such a short time, these churches were falling away from the Gospel that was recently embraced. Paul was alarmed, astonished, and surprised. Elder Chris looks at various places in the Bible where individuals marveled, including the Lord Jesus Christ. He reminds us that our sins were taken away and urges us to not fall away from that message.

Elder James explains that sanctification is to set apart for a Holy purpose. There is a Holy sanctification where God the Father sanctified us in election, Jesus Christ sanctified us in the redemption, and the Holy Ghost sanctified us when we were born again. But in 1 Peter 3:15, it is talking about a sanctification of ourselves. Elder James explains to set ourselves apart for a Holy purpose is not easy because of the two natures we have waring within us. He teaches baptism is the first step, followed by things like prayer, reading the scriptures, church attendance, and giving. But despite our failures, Elder James reminds us that God’s sanctification never changes.

In the midst of wicked individuals, the Lord Jesus Christ makes some of the greatest statements found in the Bible. Jesus declared that had they really searched the scriptures in the right way they would have recognized who He is. But this greatly offends these wicked men. He points out that when we come to the house of the Lord in the right spirit and the right attitude, we will leave rested and reminded of a soverign God of providence.

To please God we must have faith, not of ourselves, but faith that is given by God directly. It is important for us to stop and contemplate that He is a rewarder of those that seek Him. Elder Chris considers the kingdom of Solomon at its highest point. The queen of Sheba came with many gifts for Solomon, inquiring of his wisdom, and Solomon shared his wisdom and royal bounty. Elder Chris encourages us to diligently seek the Lord and we will always come away with more blessings than we came to Him with.

In Judges 16 we see the downfall of Samson. While he was blessed mightily, he was very self-centered. Elder Chris compares and contrasts Samson with Joseph. Joseph would not yield to Potiphar’s wife that led to great deliverance and blessing. But Delilah’s vexing would ultimately be Samson’s tragic end. The difference is Joseph served and loved the Lord, and God was with him. Elder Chris points out that Samson’s death did more good for the people of God than all his life. He encourages us to live more like Joseph. There may be temporary difficulties, but our lives will be more beneficial to our family and the family of God.

In Ruth 2, Ruth, a foreigner in the land, fell on her face and asked why she received grace in Boaz’s eyes. But Boaz knew the love she had for her mother-in-law, and showed her grace. He informed her to come to his field to receive a full reward. God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him in this world. Elder Chris then looked closely at “under whose wings thou art come to trust.” God uses this imagery to convey the broadness of His protection, His swift rescues, a covering from infancy to the grave, and a tender encouragement in our lives.

Bro Paul turns to Esther where we read of God’s great providence. Mordecai is the hero, Esther a great character, and Haman the villain who greatly loved himself. The story appears to be a bad situation but Brother Paul proclaims that it was very much under the control of God. Just like in Esther’s story, God isn’t absent from our lives. He walks with us, leads us, supplies our needs, and restrains the evil from taking hold.

The love is God is so vast. While we will never fully comprehend the love of God this side of glory, the Apostle Paul desired we would know the width, length, height, and depth of His love. The Apostle John declared that we know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. Loving the brethren is a testimony that God loves us and we are partakers in eternal life.

Elder Chris points out that with God there is no variableness or shadow of turning. It is a comforting thought that in a world of constant change, God does not change. Satan’s desire is to shift our minds away from the foundational principles that we find in the doctrine of Jesus Christ. In this life, Elder Chris cautions not to let Satan’s influence and the ever-changing philosophy of men affect what we believe about the Lord Jesus Christ. He proclaims that one day we will be with Christ in glory where no change shall ever come.

Elder Philip turns to Luke 7 where we read of the woman who washed Jesus’s feet with her tears. She was behind him and didn’t speak, but she wanted to be with the Lord. Not on her terms, but his. The very expression of her soul is poured out in her tears to wash his feet. She came face to face with the very place that her salvation took place, where Christ’s heal was bruised and the serpent’s head was crushed. Elder Philip proclaims that the church is a place to come face to face with what God has done for us and gives us strength in this old world.

In difficult times, Israel was instructed to not be afraid or fearful, but to shout and rejoice. Elder Philip considers how the Lord sees His children glorified and is not discouraged. And we don’t have to be discouraged either, because the Lord in the midst of us. Just as many times as the Lord has told us He loves us and it will be alright, we love hearing it again. And He loves to come down in the midst of His people to hear how much we love Him.

Elder Hollis reflects on the Lord in Hebrews 1. The Lord told Moses exactly what to do and showed Isaiah what was to come with Christ. The Apostle Peter exhorts the elders as an elder, not as a chief apostle. He gives good instruction to the gospel elder who is to feed the flock. Peter promotes humility for all the saints, living a life of service. Elder Chris considers the account of David’s belief that Mephibosheth desired the throne, based on a lie. But when David returned, Mephibosheth demonstrated the truth that he had mourned the king was not on his throne, and he was content that his king was now in his house in peace. Elder Chris proclaims that we have that today. Our King is in his house in peace and we should be satisfied to exalt him from a lowly place.

Elder Chris turns to John 15:9 where we read “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.” He points out how Christ is the true vine, the Father takes care of the vine, and we are the branches that bring forth fruit. We are pruned through trials to bring forth more fruit. Our love is fickle that is not as committed as his love to us, but we are called the sons and daughters of God and we should not take that love for granted.

How do we live by faith? The answer is simple but hard to employ. It is a commitment that we will trust the Lord, no matter the situation in our earthly existence. Elder Chris teaches to not trust in things of the world but rather trust in the Lord, who will support and guide through the darkest hours. He has never let the elect down and he never will.

Elder Chris explains faith is the foundation that supports the idea that God exists, and it is imparted to us when we are born again. Faith is how we should walk, not by sight. Elder Chris asks us to put ourselves in the shoes of the Old Testament individuals who trusted that God would deliver them without knowledge of Christ’s completed work. We are fortunate to know the gospel and he encourages us to have faith that God will deliver us.

In Leviticus the Lord gives the children of Israel two pictures of being obedient and being disobedient. He gives promises such as rain in due season, peace in the land, a time without war, and prevail over enemies, they would multiply and grow, and God’s house will be in the midst of them. But if they will not hearken he lays out the various plagues and judgements. Elder Chris encourages us to not give place to the devil or turn away from the principles of the word of God. The Lord is slow to anger and will help us to turn back to things that please Him. He will then be pleased to dwell among us.

In Psalms we read that the Lord will instruct and teach us as we go, but cautions not to be as the horse or mule who has no understanding and must be held with bit and bridle. Elder Chris explains we should come to God’s word for guidance and instruction and God will lead us with His eye.

Our bodies will be raised, made incorruptible, and taken home to be with him forever.

Elder Adam preaches on the gift of tongues and how charismatic dominations believe this is a key piece of the New Testament church. But Elder Adam explains what the gift of tongues is of two things: divers types of tongues and the interpretation of tongues. God gave these gifts during the Apostles as the New Testament canon was not completed. The Apostles had a significant job in front of them to convince the Jews and needed signs and wonders to convert them to Christianity. Peter warns of those that believe all things continue as they were from the beginning, and are willingly ignorant of it. The scoffer says “Where is the promise of His coming?” and Elder Philip proclaims we should never let the world rob us of the expectation of His coming. He considers God’s promise of a son to Abraham and how he waited twenty-five years for the promise to come to pass. The point is time is a relative thing to God. So what is God waiting for? Elder Philip explains that if God had ended the world a long time ago, he would have perished because he didn’t exist, and God is not willing that any should perish. One day when every heir is regenerated, there will be no need for this world and we should walk with Him looking forward to that day when we will be with Him forever.
