Focus points include gender differences as related to social media, stress, friendships, physical attraction, school dress codes, societal expectations, and more.
Do you agree with their opinions? Which were “good takes” and which were “bad takes” from four years ago? How has the world changed in the meantime?

Here's our final Weekly Trivia question and Wacky Facts for the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine time. Thanks to everyone for listening in. Hopefully it brought a smile to your face every week during this time of e-learning and uncertainty.
This week: What is a fart? + Weird Odds & Ends
BACKGROUNDTo supplement remote teaching and e-learning that is occurring during the COVID-19 quarantine, I put together a sample of some of the "Fun Friday" activities that usually occur within our Health classroom.
I was going to just record these for students in my virtual classrooms, but figured I'd use this platform to share with the public as well. Hope you enjoyed!
Depending on the grade level, each Friday we start the period off with some Wacky Facts or Weekly Trivia. These often coincide with the content or skills we've been working on, but mostly they're just for fun and learning. Plus, they often allow us to cover some things with the body systems.
If you're into fact checking or you have additional fun facts for us, feel free to leave a comment. :)
REMOTE RECORDINGOur 8th grade hosts have wrapped up Season 2 of our school podcast as we made our way through quarantine and looked ahead to the future. We are also introducing our hosts for next school year. Be sure to check those episodes and listen in next fall!
EXPERT INSIGHT SERIESI plan on doing more "Expert Insight" summer interviews so you can listen in which on positive contributors to the world of health, life, and the future.

Back at it with another discussion on teenage stereotypes!
Stereotype: a generalization based on a group in which a person belongs. (Ex: race, age, gender, income, neighborhood, etc.)
This week our hosts Lauren and Rhys have their first conversation about stereotypes in school and society. They talk with classmates Nathan and Ethan about unfair perceptions of people based on example stereotypes, and all four 8th graders analyze what influences those generalizations.
Earlier in this season, our other hosts, Salil and Shauna, took on the topic in Episode, They discussed things like gender, race, and age, as well as some of the -isms we see in society. This is a fantastic follow-up to that discussion, this time with a focus on the impact of teachers and media, how we talk and the common phrases students hear, and how we all put up "masks" as barriers to our true self at times.

The end of an era! We are finishing up the 2018-19 school year, and Luke and Tadiwa are moving on up.
We meet two of our next podcast hosts, Salil and Shauna! These 7th grade students will take the lead next year, and join two other students to be our Season 2 leaders. We chat more about how it all went with Luke and Tadiwa in our premiere podcast season, and ultimately say thanks and goodbye to our first hosts. The students talk a little about goals and strategies to come up with timely topics for today's teens, how to get people talking, and the importance of practicing Health Ed life skills to create debates and discussions.
Make sure to check Part 1 as we meet the other two hosts, Lauren and Jannell! We will continue with all four in the fall of 2019.

This is a special podcast episode and our official entry for the 2019 NPR Podcast Challenge, recorded right in the Health Education classroom at Scullen Middle School.
Our hosts Luke and Tadiwa take the lead and interview two other 8th grade students, Aminah and Armani. All four students give their thoughts and debate about gender differences in middle school and in life, focusing on expectations, stereotypes, athletics, and social media.
The students wanted to keep their podcast raw and barely edited-- a lot like a typical conversation between teens, either in the classroom as a group discussion or on their own time as an informal debate.
