Montana State went 8-0 in Big Sky Conference play and finished 10-1 overall to earn its first Big Sky championship since 2012 and the No. 4 seed in the FCS playoffs. Coming off a first round bye, MSU hosts No. 9 Weber State on Saturday in Bozeman.

The Wildcats held on for a 38-31 win over North Dakota in the first round. Montana State defeated Weber State 43-38 on October 22, 2022 in Bozeman.

Montana hosted its 2022 spring football game in Hamilton, Montana on April 8, 2022. The Griz scrimmaged for 78 minutes. 

The action included interceptions by Trajon Cotton and Corbin Walker plus a near interception by Trevin Gradney during a first half dominated by defense on both sides. In the second half, the quarterbacks continued to struggle to complete passes but came on toward the end. 

Lucas Johnson hit Ryan Simpson for an 11-yard touchdown and Kris Brown lofted a 25-yard scoring toss to Aaron Fontes for the most formidable scores of the day. Fontes also tracked down Dylan Simmons from behind on what could and should've been a 99-yard pick-6 if not for Fontes running behind the Montana bench for most of the way tracking Simmons down.

Longtime Montana track and field head coach Brian Schweyen abruptly resigned in August of 2020. Clint May, one of the most successful prep cross country coaches in state history, was named the interim head coach after only one year as the head of UM's cross country program and distance runners. 

May led Bozeman High to nine girls' and boys' Class AA state cross country titles in 10 seasons, serving as the architect of one of the greatest dynasties in Montana prep sports history.
