Happy Two Year Anniversary! Stoke the Wild is thankful and grateful to all our listeners who spent time with us these last two years. On this weeks episode, Nick & Joy talk about art for consumption vs art for engagement. It's an interesting conversation regarding the role of art in society, where our messaging comes from, and how we might think about creativity as something not designed for success but rather for imagining a better world. We hope you enjoy it.

Ever feel like a season of your favorite show hits big up top or finishes real strong, but the rest is a little lackluster? Writing for TV (or anything) is difficult, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. But that doesn't mean that each season or each episode is a standout hit. This week Nick and Joy discuss the joys of TV filler episodes, what they notice from watching their favorite shows, and how Nick approaches his own storytelling methods.

This week's episode, Nick & Joy talk about art and injustice. Art has often been a way for truth to be spoken. We talk about the books, films, tv shows, and podcasts we've been taking in to be anti-racist. There is always work to be done. We can continue to learn and be educated by those far more equipped to teach us. But we cannot stay silent, and we cannot sit idly by as people suffer. We are not experts. Honestly, we are not even close to amateurs on the subject, but if we can encourage even one person to take the time to self-examine, and do the work, then so be it.

Nick and Joy get a bit worked up over some of their favorite films; from plot twists to movie scores, emotional deaths to don't bother seeing the movie. They laugh, rip on M. Night a bit, throw Solo under the bus, and enjoy a bit of John Williams.
To avoid any spoilers for movies that have come out 20-30 years ago, jump in around minute 40. Seriously though, you've probably seen the movies.

Joy brings some information from The American Art Therapy Association, and we break a bit of our own moments in life where art has been a healthy way to process circumstances. Check out Lynzy Lab regarding the bit of dance Nick and Joy discussed. And remember, we are not therapists, nor do we claim to be professional counselors, if you or someone you know is struggling as is need of care, always seek professional help. We love you.
