"From Law to Life” (Galatians 4:21-31)
Have you ever found yourself stuck in “performance mode” with God—feeling like you have to earn His love, prove your worth, or live by a spiritual checklist? You’re not alone. The Apostle Paul wrote to believers in Galatia who were wrestling with the same trap: a return to law-based living instead of walking in the freedom of grace.
This Sunday, we’ll dive into a powerful and surprising passage from Galatians 4, where Paul contrasts two very different ways of life—one rooted in self-effort and slavery, and the other in miraculous promise and freedom. Using the story of Abraham’s two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, Paul helps us see the danger of religious legalism and the beauty of God’s grace.
Come and hear why life with Jesus isn’t about trying harder—it’s about trusting deeper. Let’s discover together what it means to stop living like spiritual slaves and start living as children of the promise.

"Labor of Love” (Galatians 4:12-20)
In this heartfelt message from Galatians 4:12–20, Pastor Daniel unpacks the Apostle Paul’s deep, almost parental love for the Galatian believers—likening his concern to the agony of laboring for them all over again. Paul urges them to return to the freedom and consistency they first saw in his life, and to reject the burdens of legalism. This message explores how a believer can live with spiritual consistency and freedom, how truth-telling sometimes wounds before it heals, and how gospel ministry often flows through weakness, not strength.
Whether you're a mom, a student, or someone wrestling with spiritual performance, this message is a reminder: you are no longer a slave—but a beloved child of God.

"From the Cradle to the Throne” (Galatians 4:1-11)
Before Christ, we lived like spiritual orphans—slaves to the law, trapped by the world’s systems, stuck in a "cause-and-effect" mindset. But in Christ, we’re no longer slaves. We’re sons and daughters of the King. In this message, we explore Paul’s vivid imagery of a young heir under guardianship and discover the breathtaking truth of our adoption into God's family. We don’t just receive forgiveness—we are given full belonging, full intimacy, and a full inheritance. Through Jesus, we cry out “Abba, Father” with boldness and confidence, living not for approval, but from the approval of the One who has already called us His own. It’s time to leave behind the ABCs of spiritual preschool and step into the wonder of grace.

“The Gospel According to Eden” (Easter Sunday)
While humanity’s story begins in a garden marked by brokenness and separation from God through sin, Easter is the declaration that our story doesn’t have to end there—because of Jesus, the Savior who came searching for us, we are offered restoration, hope, and eternal life. God’s posture toward us, even in our failure, is not condemnation but love and pursuit, inviting us to return to Him and experience the fullness of life we were originally created for. Join as we dive into Genesis chapter 1 to see how it tells the Easter Story.

"The Disappointment of Kings" – A Palm Sunday Message
As Jesus rides into Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna!”, the crowd is filled with hope that their new king has come to overthrow Rome and restore Israel’s glory. But what happens when the King they get isn’t the kind they expected? In this Palm Sunday message, we explore how Jesus redefines kingship—not through military power or political force, but through humility, sacrifice, and victory over death itself. If you’ve ever felt let down by the leaders of this world—or by the false kings we chase in our own lives—this message is for you. Let your heart cry Hosanna again, and discover the King who truly saves.

"Father Abraham" (Galatians 3:6-9)
This Sunday, we’ll be diving into a powerful story from Genesis 15 where God makes a promise to Abraham that would change the course of history. In this passage, we witness God's unconditional grace—something that Abraham could never earn but could only receive.
Have you ever felt like you had to earn God's love or approval? Join us as we explore the truth that God’s promises are not based on our ability to measure up, but on His faithfulness. We’ll also look at how trusting God’s grace can transform not only our relationship with Him but how we live out our faith.

"Foolish Faith" (Galatians 3:1-5)
What if the way to true freedom and peace isn’t through striving or self-reliance, but through something that seems, to the world, completely foolish? We’ll also look at an unexpected story—the Trojan horse—and how it might just help us understand the surprising power of God’s grace in our lives. This isn't the kind of faith that makes sense at first glance, but it’s the kind of faith that changes everything once we see it for what it truly is.
This Sunday we explore the incredible freedom that comes from understanding grace—not as something we need to prove ourselves worthy of, but as something God freely offers. It’s not about what we can do, but about what He has already done for us. This powerful truth changes the way we think, live, and relate to others.

Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try, it’s never enough? That the pressure to prove yourself—to God, to others, even to yourself—is overwhelming? You’re not alone.
Today we’re diving into a truth that can set you free. It’s not about working harder, being better, or trying to earn something that’s already been given. It’s about discovering a kind of rest and confidence that doesn’t come from what you do, but from something far greater.
Today we explore what Jesus has to say about where real security, peace, and purpose are found.

The Kingdom of God ~ Forgiveness (Matthew 6:14-15)
We return to the Sermon on the Mount as we study 'The Kingdom of God.' The last time we studied this passage together we studied 'The Lord's Prayer.' In the prayer itself, there is a prayer for forgiveness.
"And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." ~ Matthew 6:12 NIV
Immediately after the Lord's Prayer, Jesus speaks on forgiveness again. That's no surprise to us. If there's one area of the Christian life that proves to be challenging for us no matter how long we've been following Him, it's forgiveness. We'll look at what else Jesus has to say in addition to the Lord's Prayer as well as other Scriptures that will help us unpack this difficult yet life-giving spiritual discipline.

THIS or THAT ~ Conflict in Relationships (Mathew 5:38-42)
Conflict in relationships is something we all face, whether with friends, family, or even our enemies. But how we respond to these conflicts can either fuel the fire or bring about peace. This week, we’ll explore Jesus’ radical teachings on handling conflict, where He calls us to a higher standard—not to retaliate, but to respond with grace, creativity, and generosity. Imagine what our world would look like if we all chose to turn the other cheek, give more than what’s demanded, and go the extra mile.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus challenges us to rethink our approach to those who wrong us. Instead of getting even, He urges us to respond in ways that uphold our dignity and reflect God’s love. Whether it’s turning the other cheek, offering our coat along with our shirt, or carrying a burden further than required, Jesus’ teachings invite us into a way of life that transforms conflict into opportunities for reconciliation and healing.

We are excited to welcome back Pastor David Van Wormer to First Christian Church. Many of you will remember that Pastor David served as our pastor for a few years up until 2015. One of our goals this year is to have a few of our former pastors preach for us while we celebrate our 135th anniversary. Pastor David now serves as a hospice chaplain in Lane County and has served the local church in so many capacities over the years. He will be speaking from the Lord’s Prayer when he joins us in a few weeks.

In today's message, we will deepen our understanding of Our Identification in Christ through three powerful images. We will explore Jesus' powerful call for us to be the salt of the earth, the light of the world, and a city on a hill, as found in Matthew 5:13-16.
We'll examine how being the "salt of the earth" means preserving goodness and enhancing the lives around us. We'll discuss the significance of being the "light of the world," illuminating the darkness and guiding others to God's truth. Lastly, we'll look at what it means to be a "city on a hill," living visibly and influentially for Christ.
Together, we'll discover practical ways to embody these images and make a profound impact for God's kingdom.

Today we dive deeper into our first of three guiding values: Authentic Faith. In Romans 12, Paul describes to us what it looks like to present our bodies as living sacrifices to God. In doing so, he also details the characteristics of authentic faith: Genuine Love, Enthusiastic Service, and Joyful Hope.

Today: Unwrapping Worship
Moving past the glossy outer layers, this study helps us celebrate the season by getting to the heart of Christmas. Today, from 1 John, we take a look at two crucial facts about Christmas. Further, we'll evaluate how embracing those two truths will impact you this Christmas.
Often the holiday season can be quite self-centered. There is a focus on wish lists and what we want for gifts. Surely there has to be an alternative to this self-indulgence.
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving, we consider what biblical gratitude looks like and how we can incorporate it throughout the holiday season.
For this special Sunday, we welcome back our friend Dr. Agam from Bushnell University in Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Agam serves as the Associate Dean of Bible & World Christianity and the Associate Professor of Bible & World Christianity. Dr. Agam is a powerful preacher of biblical truth and we are honored and thrilled to have him speak to us this year on Gratitude Sunday.
This series idea is designed to inspire and challenge us to develop strong spiritual habits in our lives. What would it look like for you to be set up to thrive in your faith, rather than trudging along from one moment to another, from one day to another, from one crisis to another?
In order for us to be able to do that successfully, spiritual disciplines need to be firmly rooted in our daily lives. And it’s our desire for these habits to be second nature.

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church Sunday, November 5, 2023 @ 10:30 AM
Every day, 13 Christians worldwide are killed because of their faith.
Every day, 12 churches or Christian buildings are attacked.
Every day, 12 Christians are unjustly arrested or imprisoned, and another five are abducted.
This is a day we set aside to remember those in prison as if we were there ourselves. And to remember those being mistreated, as if we felt their pain in our own bodies.
In an often rushed and chaotic day-to-day world, how do we practice the spiritual habit of slowing down and embracing the rhythms of life? On Sunday, October 29th we are privileged to have Dr. Derek Voorhees of Boise Bible College with us as our special guest. Derek serves as the president and professor of New Testament. His authenticity and care for God's church will be evident as he challenges us.
Recent news of the war and atrocities in Israel at the hands of a terrorist organization, Hamas, has no doubt evoked some reactions.
For some, it is the emotion of FEAR... What does this war mean? What's next? How long will the war last? How much will our country be involved? Will we go to war?
For some, it is paralyzing ANXIETY... Is this the beginning of the end? What should I expect next? Is the news telling me everything I need to know?
And for some, perhaps it's just ANGER... Angry at the terrorists. Angry at the shape the world is. Angry at the way our government is responding. Angry at the way our government isn't responding.
Scripture begs us to consider a different way to think about these events and the end times. Today we take a closer look at the book of Revelation in order to gain a better understanding, a clearer perspective, and ultimately grasp onto the living hope that only Jesus provides.
Burnout is NOT inevitable.
Will power is LIMITED.
Living Water is INEXHAUSTIBLE.
Jesus is ENOUGH.

On the heels of finishing our verse-by-verse study through the book of Acts, Pastor Daniel shares his story of God’s grace and redemption in his life. Through the end of the book of Acts, over and over again, we have a front-row seat seeing and hearing the Apostle Paul tell his story. In hearing Paul's story we are given a simple process for sharing our story - our testimony - of what we have seen God do in our life. On this special Sunday, we'll hear from Pastor Daniel share his story and give practical tips for you to obey Jesus’ command and share your story.
ACTS: What Makes Us Who We Are?
We conclude our verse-by-verse study through the New Testament Book of Acts. This book records for us the acts of the apostles after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the formation of the first church. Going through the Book of Acts will help us identify what makes us who we are and helps us chart our course forward.
The narrative is almost over. Paul makes his way to Rome, finally! In his final moments on Malta we see followers of Jesus Christ meeting the needs of people that were right in front of them, AND - sharing their stories to whoever will listen. It may seem like quite the detour for Paul and his companions, but God doesn't waste any of the moments in our life, does He?

Paul, the crew, and the other passengers are no two weeks into their voyage to Rome and they are in the middle of a severe storm. They've tried everything they can possibly do and now the crew is looking for an opportunity to save their own lives by abandoning the ship and leaving the passengers behind. Paul then encourages them with why it's so important to 'stay in the ship'

Difficult of all the reminders in life is this - life isn't easy. It isn't easy for any of us and sometimes that reminder is all too needy for God's followers, most of all. Following Jesus entails difficult moments and seasons that can be as varied as summer is to winter. Through it all we are called to place our faith in God.

A promise made about Paul's life would be fulfilled more than 20 years later as he speaks with Agrippa. Agrippa's discourse with Paul gives us pause to consider areas of our life that need to be transformed by his power. In the end, we learn the tragic reality that 'close enough' isn't.

Our faith should have an impact on the way we live and the way we interact with one another. The way we live out our lives ends up being incredibly important because there is so many people that have heard of Jesus but don't know Jesus.

Paul is now being pursued by assassins. Since meeting Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, Paul's life has had quite a few moments where his life was threatened. Yet here, as this assassination plot failed, we see Paul realizing a promise from God that was made twenty years earlier.

Pentecost Sunday is the day in which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit recorded in Acts 2. It happened 50 days after the day Jesus arose from the grave. It represents the fulfillment of the promise that Christ will indwell His followers by the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Although we live with this promise, many of us, live without the power of the Holy Spirit. This Pentecost Sunday we'll dive deeper into Scripture in order to embrace the Power of the Holy Spirit in our day-to-day lives.
The mob is ready to kill Paul. Paul is then given an opportunity to speak to the mob. And while he makes his defense, he begins to share his story. The scene then unfolds and we see listens abound: about how we come to God, about the impact of our circumstances to our witness, and what happens in the dark.

We come to the time when Paul is now arrested and is given the chance to address the crowd. Through this narrative over chapters 21 and 22 of Acts, we see what Paul relies on, the correlation between valleys and mountaintop experiences, and what Paul did when sharing the Gospel. In the end, we see him share his story which prompts a directive for us today.

Paul says goodbye to the church at Ephesus and makes the long voyage back to Jerusalem. On the journey, he is repeatedly warned about going back home, and yet he continues? Why? What is the difference between being warned by the Holy Spirit or being forbidden by the Holy Spirit?

Paul's about to say goodbye to the elders at Ephesus. He spent two years with them and now he is leaving them. Before he does, he passionately commissions them as elders and prays over them. And so will we.

Paul's 3rd missionary journey has many different movements. In chapter 20 we see Paul leave the chaos caused in chapter 19 to find a group of people that not only have been reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ - they are now reaching others with the Gospel. In this we learn that Paul was not exclusive when he shared the Gospel - everyone had the chance to hear it and live it out. That truth takes us to the best sermon ever.

Paul's 3rd Missionary journey begins almost as fast as the 2nd Missionary Journey ends. Through this week's narrative, we see passion emerge from Apollos. We see discipleship in its purest form with Aquila and Priscilla. And we see disciples respond to the full Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In Acts 18 we see Paul establish the church in Corinth, a city marked by sin and debauchery. In Paul's obedience to the leading of the Spirit of God, God gives him two reminders. The reminders are not loud or demonstrative reminders. Rather they are gentle reminders. The reminders are as beautiful and timely today as they were in Paul's day.

In Acts 17 we see Paul reason with the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers about the UNKNOWN GOD. In this discourse, we'll see how Paul makes the case that there is only one response that leads to a relationship with God. We, too, must respond in like manner.

In Acts 16 we see the beginning of Paul's 2nd Missionary Journey. This is evidence of the amazing progress we see through the book of Acts embracing and fulfilling Jesus' words in Acts 1:8: they would be witnesses in Jerusalem, In Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth! As we witness the progress there are five timely reminders for us to remember today.

In Acts 15 we see a major disagreement emerge for the church around this question: How are we made right before God? As we see the disagreement take center stage we also see the church navigate the disagreement with truth and grace. The narrative leads us to three life lessons we can learn from disagreements.

JESUS, BC
Jesus, Before Christmas
Our Advent series will embrace the reality that Jesus didn’t begin to exist on Christmas morning. He always existed. He is God well before Christmas morning came. Our study will help us to appreciate the beauty of what the Old Testament points us to and help us to understand what we are celebrating on Christmas. Because of Jesus' birth – we have life.
Today, we study Abraham & the Lamb from Genesis 22.

It'll happen fast. It always does. Thanksgiving is in the past, we'll be in the throws of Christmas and all of its glitz while facing the eve of a New Year.
This year, we paused to position ourselves in a posture of gratitude as we enter the season. We were really thrilled to welcome Phil Roberts as our guest speaker for Gratitude Sunday. He is the Assistant to the President for Seminary Development at the Emmanuel Christian Seminary (Milligan College). Phil is a tremendous speaker and we were very excited to host him on this very special Sunday.
It's just a matter of time till we experience chaos in our lives, isn't it? The stress of our finances. The condition of the world. The distressing view of the economics that lie ahead. The impending holiday season. A few things that unfold expectedly and before we know it...CHAOS. The Old Testament book of Habakkuk gives us some insight on some reminders we need to hold on to as followers of Jesus Christ. Habakkuk saw the chaos and wickedness all around him and he questions God. In God's responses to Habakkuk in this short book, there are three reminders we can rely on when our world is filled with chaos. It's so important that as we go through chaotic seasons in our life that we hold on tightly to God's reminders for us.
The first Sunday in November is recognized as the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Dr. Agam Iheanyi-Igwe from Bushnell University is our special guest speaker. Dr. Agam Iheanyi-Igwe is the Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Bible & World Christianity. With Dr. Agam's perspective on world missions, we gain a further understanding of the concerns of the persecuted church worldwide.
What happens when people encounter God's Word? Our special guest speaker Mike Kildal (Chaplain, Mercy Medical Center & Redeemer's Fellowship) will continue our series through the book of Acts. After Paul preaches his message during the first missionary journey we see four different responses when people encounter God's Word.

Paul preaches a message during his first missionary journey. Interesting to note, Peter and Paul preached the same gospel, and the same gospel was preached some fifteen years after Pentecost as was preached on that first day. The challenge of his message for his audience is the same challenge for today...Whose salvation will you embrace? God's salvation? Or your own?

As we study the book of Acts together, we're identifying an exciting shift. The church has now recognized and embraced this reality: the Gospel is for EVERYONE. And in embracing this reality, the church SENDS its followers into the world to share the hope of the Gospel. This shift serves as an encouragement and inspiration for how we should live out our daily lives.

Part of following Jesus involves living a life that withstands persecution. In chapter 12 of Acts, Peter is imprisoned and we see the church begin to earnestly pray. That begs the question...what is earnest prayer? As we investigate the church's response to Peter's imprisonment we see an important lesson about earnest prayer and resisting God.

The followers of Jesus Christ in the early church in Antioch were called Christians. It was a title given because of their identity, their priority, and their action. Would that be an accurate way to describe you?

Today marks the conclusion of the narrative that details the interaction and relationship of Cornelius and Peter. It's a long narrative that has crucial implications for the church in Jerusalem. It's not just that the story of Cornelius is an exceptional situation (as with the Ethiopian eunuch) but the acceptance by the Gentiles into the Kingdom of God. A whole new ethnic group was being welcomed in. And as a result the church would expand into all the earth...

What if someone asked you this question? Are you ready? Pastor Darren gives us practical insight on how to answer such a question.
What would happen to each of us if we truly believed the Gospel was for everyone? And what if, when we say 'everyone' we meant, EVERYONE? This is the eye-opening epiphany that Peter has as a result of his interaction with Cornelius, the centurion. What unfolds is transformational, even to this day.

Everything Peter thought he knew about the Kingdom of God and the Gospel is about to change in Acts 10. In fact, what is about to happen in Acts chapter 10 shifts his whole perspective on the Gospel and what the kingdom of God looks like. His vision opens up his mind to a world where everyone is valuable to God. What would happen to each of us if we truly believed the Gospel was for everyone?

What we are reading today is transitional information. In a few chapters, we will follow, pretty exclusively, the life and ministry of Saul/Paul. But first, for a few chapters, we will focus on the region abroad and the impact of the Gospel. Luke, the author, is bringing us back to the subject of Peter’s work in preparation for a monumental shift in Peter’s life coming in chapter 10. Something happens in chapter 10 that shifts his whole perspective on the Gospel and what the kingdom of God looks like. And what happens in chapter 9 is what prepares Peter’s heart for what’s coming next.

We have been recently introduced to Saul and as part of his introduction we know are being introduced to Ananias. Ananias was once a target of Saul's and now becomes a dear brother. In fulfillment of Acts 1:8, we'll see that God uses people to reach people.

In the middle of the day a blinding light interrupts Saul's day of persecuting Christians and in the midst of this blinding light Saul asks the two most important questions perhaps any of us should ever ask...1) "Who are you, Lord?" and 2) Lord, what do you want me to do?" How God answers these questions just might change your life.

We rest our attention on Philip today as he is carried up from Samaria to Ethiopia and as we study him today it becomes clear: oftentimes God's plan will make no sense to us. And, if we want to see God move in unusual ways, we may need to meet God in unusual places. Today…the Scattering Continues.

We are officially at Phase 2 now of the Book of Acts. And like any sequel to a novel or a movie franchise, there are familiar faces that we have grown with over the course of the narrative. But also, we see now plot lines develop and new characters now join the narrative to move the narrative along. The narrative in this case is the expansion of His kingdom throughout the world through a Spirit-empowered church despite internal obstacles and external opposition. Today…the Scattering Begins

Today we see the martyrdom of Stephen. Stephen’s death might seem sad, maddening, and sort of meaningless at first glance. His young ministry of power and eloquence was cut abruptly short. His ministry also seemed to end in failure. No one was immediately brought to faith. All that came forth was more persecution against the church. But as always has been the case, the blood of the martyrs became the seed of the church.

Today we spend time finding Jesus in the Old Testament. This happens as we dive into Stephen's sermon. His defense in Acts chapter 7 is in response to the accusations that he is teaching blasphemy. The events we study this week and next week directly lead to the Gospel being spread outside of Jerusalem, albeit at a pretty high cost for Stephen. We now are positioned to see the shift into phase two: the Church SCATTERS.

Today we identify a shift in the book of Acts. For the first six chapters, we see phase one of the Book of Acts: the Church STARTS. We now are positioned to see the shift into phase two: the Church SCATTERS. In this shift, we are introduced to one of the early church leaders, Stephen, and his faith.

Today is known as Pentecost Sunday.
Maybe you celebrated this in your church through the years, or maybe not. Pentecost Sunday is celebrated on the 50th day (the seventh Sunday) from Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks.
Today as we rest our attention on Pentecost Sunday we look deeper into the Holy Spirit as Our Helper.
Today we see the church come full circle. They have been filled with the Holy Spirit and have been empowered to preach the Gospel. Now they suddenly face both internal obstacles and external opposition. The unity they have been able to protect thus far is threatened and we witness how they address this threat.

Today we see that there was strength on multiple fronts as the ruling council amped up their disapproval of the apostles and their teaching. The testimony of the apostles is met with the council's strong reaction and we witness the bravery of the early church apostles as they withstand persecution with honor.

Today we see that there was no such thing as casual commitment for followers of Jesus Christ. In fact, on the heels of Ananias & Sapphira, the church grew. And while there were signs and wonders, God did not free them from persecution for their own safety or comfort. There was work to do. And when faced with the difficulties of persecution, they pledge their allegiance clearly and bravely.

The week before Passover, Jesus makes his entry into Jerusalem. In fulfillment of prophecy, days before the Passover, and on the heels of performing numerous miracles, he is welcomed into Jerusalem as King.

We continue our study through the book of Acts. We are going through the New Testament Book verse-by-verse and as we study we'll answer together with the question: what makes us who we are? Through this study, we will see key characteristics of the early church and how the Holy Spirit was instrumental in the spread of the Gospel. Beginning with a fledgling band of disciples, the transforming message of hope offered by Jesus would spread from Jerusalem to Rom in less than 35 years. The same message is being proclaimed today around the world!

Total peace is elusive. Moments of peace are precious, if and when we experience them. When we find them, we hold on tight and pray they last. But there’s a peace that goes beyond our understanding – beyond the pain and fear we face today. Chances are, you’ve been missing peace from time to time in your life. Perhaps you’ve been missing peace for quite some. It’s time for God’s people to re-discover His peace.

Pastor Hugh Heinrichsen joins us as we seek to break the silence, reduce the stigma, and remind people that it is not a sin to be sick. This Sunday inspires and challenges us as we seek to equip our church to become a place of refuge and hope for those in pain. There is hope.
Where does fear show up in your lives? Are you holding back because of fear? It is time that we start choosing faith over fear. This means taking risks and making decisions the world doesn't understand. But make no mistake, it's a worthy decision. Come and see what life can look like when we choose to have faith over fear.

Often we will go through life as if something is missing. We’ll go through life longing for a clearer sense of purpose in our lives. Biblically speaking we were created with very specific significance in mind, not just survival. Together, we’ll figure our next step and gain clarity on how God is leading us.
This two-week study will encourage us to recognize where in our lives we have become spiritually passive. Together we will learn to recognize we were made for significance, and that God gives each of us the vision to pursue the purpose He has us.

Today: The Master’s Plan (an introduction) Ephesians 1:1-14
It’s easy to take the cross for granted.
It’s easy to forget that the crucifixion at the cross was the ultimate form of torture.
What was designed to bring death to a person was used as a vehicle to bring life to all.
At the cross we are faced with the reality that our brokenness and our sin carry a penalty. At the cross the very Son of God took our penalty. At the cross we’ll find the details of what grace looks like.
‘At the Cross’ will give us a window into why the darkest day of Jesus’ story reveals the brightest day of history.

What do you do when we see the promises of God go unfulfilled in this life? Scripture is filled with examples of people who lived lives of faith – having never received the promise. This is the hard reality for the life of a Christian. It is not bleak though. In those instances, we claim a greater promise found in the last verse of Hebrews 11… ‘God has something better planned.’
Drifting away comes with consequences. It causes you to believe some myths about the Christian which we will discuss today. Drifting away also encourages you to embrace ‘normal.’ Normal is overrated. As we dive into the tenth chapter of Hebrews we see that God has GREATER in store for us than normal. So today we discuss giving normal a funeral by embracing for commands in chapter ten.
The message of the book of Hebrews is simple - don’t give up - because Jesus is GREATER. And because Jesus is greater, we now have a greater perspective. What Jesus did for us with the new covenant was to change our whole perspective on life. Before the focus was based on the idea that God’s acceptance and love was contingent on our behavior. Now we understand that we do not serve for His love, approval, and redemption - we serve God from His love, approval, and redemption.
Sometimes when something is new it’s a complete let down. Anybody remember ‘New Coke’?
The writer of Hebrews makes the case that the new covenant is the exception to that rule. The New Covenant provided by Jesus Christ gifts us a new purity, a new identity, a new desire and new power. (from Hebrews 8)
This message is part of our study through the book of Hebrews. Today’s message focuses on why Melchizedek was used to point to how much greater Jesus is. He is our greater hope, and you can trust Him.
This message is part of our study through the book of Hebrews. Hebrews was written to persecuted Jewish Christians with a simple message directed to them: Don't Give Up - because Jesus is Greater.
