Hello and welcome to Cemetery Tales Podcast. In this episode we are talking about Friday the 13th. The origins of the superstition surrounding Friday the 13th can be traced back to ancient civilizations and religious beliefs. The number 13 was considered unlucky by the Babylonians, Norse mythology and Christians as it was associated with death, betrayal and the end of the world. The superstition has also been linked to the Black Death, the Knights Templar and other historical events. Today, the superstition is still prevalent in many cultures around the world and people tend to avoid making important decisions or undertaking important tasks on this day. In this episode of Cemetery Tales Podcast, we'll be exploring some of the latest trends in the cemetery industry. One trend that has been gaining popularity is green burials.
Another trend we're seeing is the use of vertical cemeteries, which are essentially multi-level grave sites that allow for more efficient use of space. This can be especially useful in crowded urban areas where traditional cemeteries may not have enough room to accommodate all the burials.
We'll also be talking about the rise of technology in the cemetery industry, with the use of online memorials and virtual grave visits becoming more common. These tools can help loved ones stay connected to their deceased even if they're not able to physically visit the grave site.
Finally, we'll be discussing the importance of remembering and honoring the dead, and how cemeteries can play a crucial role in this process. Whether you're a cemetery professional or just someone looking to learn more about this fascinating industry, this episode is sure to have something for everyone. So, stay tuned and join us for the latest trends in the cemetery industry on Cemetery Tales Podcast. Thank you for listening.

In this episode we share information about Major League's Baseball's first perfect game. An amazing left handed pitcher by the name of John Lee Richmond. Here is a recap. Richmond had one of only three hits during the game, with Irwin having the latter two. While on base, Irwin contributed the only run of the game; second baseman Fred Dunlap bobbled a throw that had come from pitcher Jim McCormick that counted for an error, and Irwin ran for home plate. On the throw home by Dunlap, the ball went over Doc Kennedy's head for another error. Worcester left two men on base, in part due to a 6-4-3 double play from Glasscock to Dunlap to Phillips. Three outs were recorded on "foul bounds", where the ball was caught by the fielder after it had bounced once in foul territory, a rule that was in place at the time until 1883. The game lasted 1 hour and 26 minutes, with a seven-minute delay due to rain in the seventh inning. This was the first ever perfect game in Major League Baseball history, and it was the second ever no-hitter in league history (the first being in 1876). Thank you for listening. Like all myths, werewolf origin stories vary in their explanations. As depicted in the classic The Wolf Man, werewolves are created when an existing werewolf bites a human, ostensibly transferring werewolfism as an infectious disease. On the other hand, some depictions (see: Teen Wolf) make the disease an inherited one, perhaps with delayed onset in puberty. Regardless, werewolves can change back and forth from monster to human form, undergoing metamorphosis into hairy, aggressive, ruthless beasts only when exposed to moonlight or under a full moon.
As with vampires, werewolves are likely inspired by some combination of rabies and the porphyrias. As previously mentioned, rabies is transferred by the bite of wild animals, which certainly sounds just like the story of how werewolves are made. Since rabies directly affects the central nervous system, it can cause brain disease with confusion, hallucinations, hypersalivation, and hydrophobia (fear of water). Porphyrias, which limit people from the sun, can cause some excess hair growth as well as disfigured skin and teeth.

Nothing makes you jump out of your skin faster than a scary story, but it isn't just the stories that scare us.
We humans have been telling each other scary stories for centuries, and endless urban legends have sprung from those tales. Where would horror movies be without urban legends? On the other hand, where would urban legends be without horror movies? It's an inseparable bond that keeps us up at night and coming back for more every Halloween.
So what are some of the best scary urban legends around? Here is our list of 10 scary urban legends to get you in the mood for Halloween… if you dare!
1. Bloody Mary
Although this urban legend has been around since at least the 1920s, it still terrifies us to this day. In this story, a girl named Mary would sit in front of the mirror reciting "Bloody Mary" over and over again until she comes into appearance. If you see her, she will kill you by scratching your face with her long sharp fingernails. However, there are plenty of ways to save yourself if you don't want to die. For example:
- Stare at her reflection instead of directly into the mirror (this makes it so she cannot enter our world).
- Close your eyes for 5 seconds before repeating her name (if done successfully, she will not be able to harm you - but you'll lose your chance to see her).
- Pretend like you're going to say her name and then stop. She will ask "What? What do you want?" If you reply with "I don't want anything," she will leave (but this is a gamble, as she may try to take your life anyways).

In a city known for its high life and fun nightlife, this "city of the dead" offers a seriously different scene from what you'll find on the streets outside its walls. When it comes to gravestone extravagance, no one does it better than Argentina. Lavish statues compete with rainbows of flowers left by mourners who come to pray at their final resting place under cloudy skies, foggy nights…and bats! Some say the nocturnal winged mammals roost here because of the cemetery's high death toll during the devastating yellow fever epidemic in 1871.
The seemingly endless maze of meandering paths through this Parisian burial place make it easy to lose track of where you are and how to find your way back out again—and that would be a very bad thing. So just keep an eye out for zombies as you wander around among more than one million visitors each year who come to pay their respects at the crypts and mausoleums bearing the remains of Jim Morrison, Molière, Oscar Wilde and thousands more.

It's October, so of course horror movies are on everyone's mind. There are some horror movies that stand the test of time and remain absolutely terrifying. Others on this list may not be as scary to someone who has seen more horror films, but they're still pretty creepy.
The first thing that pops into your head when you think horror movie is probably some kind of monster or serial killer like Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees, but there are good horror movies out there besides slasher flicks. Perhaps one of the best examples is 1991's "The Silence of the Lambs". Besides having an awesomely chilling performance by Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, the movie is also remembered for its horror due to one of cinema's most shocking scenes. In this horror scene, Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) enters a dark basement in search of a serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. The camera cuts between shots of Clarice and a moth on a light bulb while she slowly walks through the basement until finally we see her face - it is an intense moment that leaves you feeling vulnerable and scared.
This horror movie was released shortly before "The Shinning" and also became very popular amongst horror fans. In "Alien", members of a crew awaken from stasis to find out that their ship has been damaged and they're stranded space with no idea how to fix the issue. All of this horror is accentuated by one of horror movies most intense scenes when a creature attaches itself to John Hurt's face. The scene builds slowly as we watch horror dawn on each crew member's face before going pitch black and starting over with a scream - a perfect horror scene.
This horror film became famous for being one of first "found footage" horror movies where all the actors were filmed using handheld cameras instead of professional movie equipment. In this scene from "The Blair Witch Project", three characters search for an abandoned house deep in the woods that they believe was used as an area for witch trials years earlier. The lack of horror movie music throughout the scene only makes it creepier as the characters walk through the woods with each rustle of leaves sounding like something right behind them. The scariest part comes when one character finally finds an old run down house in a clearing where she discovers three stones laid out in a circle - this horror scene keeps you on your toes all the way to its shocking end.
This horror movie was seen by many horror fans as a breath of fresh air for being something different from other horror films released at that time. In "The Others", people who believe themselves to be haunted are sent to live in a home owned by Nicole Kidman character Grace Stewart. In this horror moment, Grace is awoken in the middle of the night by one of her children who tells her there are two people standing outside their door staring at them. The scene slowly builds to a crescendo as we see Nicole open the door and find nobody to be standing there before suddenly seeing a ghostly presence behind her - a horror scene that keeps you on your toes until its shocking end.
