In “Farewell”, Rodney shares some parting words to the New Vision Church congregation in San Antonio, Texas after almost 12 years of leading and pastoring the local church. Farewells are always an awkward mix of memories, emotions, and expressions of love. Rodney shares some words of encouragement and warning as the church transitions its leadership. He reminds them, so many today are in pursuit of titles. They believe that influence, and power comes from the title they have. But, real influence and power is given from the God and people they serve. The apostle Paul reminded the Philippians that they were slaves of Christ, and that every time he thought of them, he thanked God for them. “Unbroken remembrance results in unbroken thanksgiving.” The prayers that are offered up for them are filled with joy as he reflected on their partnership in ministry. Lastly, he was certain that God would continue and finish the good work he had started in them on the day of the Lord’s return. When Jesus returns we will all be amazed at the work that was accomplished for the glory of God’s great name and eternal fame forever.
In “I Didn’t SHRINK”, Rodney shares that transitions in life can fill us with stress, and overwhelm us with all sorts of concerns. The people in the Bible were not any different. The apostle preparing to leave and transition his ministry after a long extended stay and residing in Ephesus for over three years in prepares to leave the Christian believers and church he started in the city of Ephesus. He reminds them of his care and love for them, and most importantly that he did not shrink back from telling them all God wanted them to know. Pastor and church elders have a heavy burden leading a church, but it is also wonderful blessing when called of God to lead his church. Church leaders should never shrink back from their responsibility to lead and share the one message of the gospel: repenting from sin, turning to God, and believing in faith in Jesus Christ. At the end of every minister’s time of leading a church, or ministry may they be able to say with a pure heart and clear conscious, “I Didn’t SHRINK.”
In “Into Your Hands” Rodney shares that You will experience a time in your life when you will have to take a leap of faith requiring you to fully trust, and completely place your life into God’s hands. It can be a scary thing. It is a common experience. But if you trust God and place your life into his hands, it will be the act that moves God to do the miraculous in your life. Christians are to live by faith. You can trust that while God may be unseen, he is not unknown. Amazing things happen when we give up, and surrender completely, placing ourselves into God's hands, like Jesus did. If you want to see God do amazing things in your life, you must trust God, and place your life into his hands. Only by placing your life into God’s hands can you experience the miracle of a resurrection.
In “Here Comes The Bride”, Rodney shares that with the events that have been transpiring in Israel, Some have wondered if this could be the beginning of the end times, and whether Psalm 83 could prophetically be playing out right in front of us. A more accurate assessment is we are not at the beginning of the end, but near the end of the end. The Marriage Supper in Revelation 19 is a beautiful picture of the uniting of the bride (The Church), and bridegroom (Jesus Christ). The waiting time of the Church for the arrival of Jesus is coming to an end. Are you ready? The Bride must prepare herself for the marriage supper. A bride’s preparation involves both her works, and the work of the Holy Spirit. There is a divine cooperation in the preparation of the wedding supper, between the bride and the Spirit. Everything the bride has need of is provided by the Holy Spirit. Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper. There is no greater invitation than to be invited to the wedding supper of the ages between Jesus Christ and his bride, the Church.
In “The Gift Of A Legacy”, Rodney shares that “The Gift of a Legacy” means more than just heirlooms, financial inheritance, or the passing of real estate to your heirs. How much thought do you give to leaving “The Gift of a Legacy”? You can leave an heirloom, but it can be stored away, and never appreciated or used. You can leave money, but it can be spent quickly or lost in foolish ways. You can leave a house, but it will eventually need repairs, and might be sold. So, I ask you, what is the gift of a legacy you will leave? “The Gift of a Legacy” will outlast all the aforementioned gifts. The Gift of a Legacy allows you to change the life of the next generation and generations to come. An advantage to being a Christian is that we live for a purpose. “How do you want to be remembered? Your God-given purpose gives an answer to this question. The Gift of a Legacy allows you to change the world for a generation and for generations to follow. Don’t wait until the end to decide you need to think about your legacy. Start thinking today about how you want to be remembered, and what you will pass to the next generation.
In “Christ-Leaders”, Rodney shares that in the Kingdom of God, God has called us to live, and strive for a life of compound growth, expansion, and fruitfulness. Christ-Leaders think, “How can I multiply the Kingdom?” Living things are thriving things. In the church, we’ve done well at calling people to follow, but we’ve done a horrible job at calling people to lead. The call to simply follow demands less, so it produces less. Churches that have a deficit of leadership produce less fruit, talents, growth, increase, ministry, and salvations. Many of us have come to think that being a follower is passive. But, Jesus recruited followers who developed into being leaders. Be the leader God has called you to be. Take initiative, by trusting that you are fully equipped, and empowered to handle whatever opportunity comes your way. A Christ-leader is not just interested in reaching this generation, but the next generation to come. You need to be not only a Christ-follower, but a Christ-leader.
In “Love Me”, Rodney shares that churches often speak of, and reminded us to love God, and love others. Additionally, we want you to know that God loves you. While not always addressed, you also need to be encouraged to love yourself. Having a healthy self-identity is not easy when you live in a world that constantly works against you having a healthy view of yourself. We need to develop a biblically healthy view of ourselves. Often how you feel about yourself influences how you think God thinks about you. However, what God thinks and feels about you is very likely different than what you think and feel about yourself. Reading God’s word will give you a balanced look at yourself. It is a necessity to “love me” if we are to love God, and love others in the manner we have been commanded to love, and the standard by which we will be judged. You need to love God, love others, love his church, and love yourself. God loves you! Isn’t it time you, love you, too. Start today – make a decision, begin to “Love Me”.
In “Our Legacy – The Next Generation”, Rodney shares that stewarding the responsibility of parenthood, and our Christian responsibilities of passing our faith onto our children is a high calling. Our legacy is only one generation away from extinction. Faith is built and passed on by scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. One generation is to pass on their faith, knowledge, and experience to the next generation, and the next generation is to pass on their faith, knowledge, and experience to their following generations. When the next generation is shown, learns, and experiences a faith in God that is alive, it allows them to “set their hope in God.” The stories and works of God in the past, become the stories and works of God in their present, and they set their hope in the future that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and their parents becomes their personal God.
In “Philemon – A Story of Forgiveness, Restoration, & Reconciliation”, Rodney shares that true faith is expressed in actions, not just words. True faith is more than just intellectual ascent or emotional stirrings, faith should produce the fruits of righteousness. Far too often, the church has requested too little of people who call Jesus, Lord. Much of the churches anemic condition is it has not been challenged to live up to the life Christ Jesus has called Christians to live. The story of Philemon and Onesimus is a challenge to every Christian to live kindly, and be useful for the Lord. Expressions of kindness, generosity, and usefulness flow from our love for one another. Love is always personal. Imagine a church filled with kind and useful people. When it is people are filled with joy. The apostle Paul is confident the grace of Christ shown in Philemon will prevail, and go above and beyond what is required because that is what love does. On some level we are like Onesimus, and in Christ, we are called to live and act like Philemon and Paul. Most importantly, because of the work of Jesus we have been made right with God, and can effectively live kindly and be useful to Him.
In “Timing – Set Up or Setback to Success”, Rodney shares that To experience success in life, business, relationships, or even your spiritual walk, understanding and embracing the truth about this contributing factor is essential, “Timing, Timing, Timing”! Think of the millions of decisions you have made over your lifetime. How many do you wish you could change, or do over? How many of those negative outcomes might have been different if you had better timing? Concerning your leadership, success in life, ministry, or business you must be willing to wait, and know when to act. Learning the importance of timing will help you make the right decision at the right time. Much success can be attributed to being at the right place, with the right people, at the right time. The opportunity of a lifetime must be seized in the lifetime of the opportunity. Today is the right time to master timing. This could be the difference between your unfulfilled dreams, and seeing God’s will unfold in your life. Right timing will create an environment for miracles and God’s moments in your life. Today is the right time to take your next step to living the life God wants you to live this side of eternity.
In “Sacrifice – The Price For Success”, Rodney shares that God has a plan for your life. God’s plan is big. If you ever get a sense of God’s plan for your life, you want to be successful. For many, the difference between missing out on God’s best and success in their life, ministry, and success in fulfilling God’s plan for their life is the amount of sacrifice someone is willing to pay. Most everyone wants perks and rewards, but fewer are willing to sacrifice what it will take to be successful in reaching their dream. What is your dream? What are you willing to sacrifice in order to see it come to pass? Hopefully your dream is to follow the plan of God for your life. Salvation is free, but discipleship and leadership is costly. As you mature in faith, and in your leadership there will be more sacrifice that is demanded. The threats to tomorrow’s success are today’s success, and your unwillingness to sacrifice. Every level of success in business, life, or ministry requires you pay a greater price for success. What is your dream? Are you willing to sacrifice and pay the price for success? If you have a God-sized dream, go for it. Success is within reach if you are willing to sacrifice, but the price you have to pay is worth it.
In, “Walking With God”, Rodney shares that God walked with Adam and Even, the first humans, in the Garden of Eden, and they experienced close spatial and relational proximity. Similarly, today, God is still walking and talking with his people. You can experience and ever deepening and growing personal relationship with Jesus. The Christin is seeking for more of God, can experience fellowship with the eternal Word, our Creator, Judge, Savior, and Lord of all. Ultimately our relational proximity will determine our spatial proximity with the Lord. Adam, Enoch, Noah, and so many other patriarchs of the faith, and his disciples had a relationship with Jesus, and it didn’t stop with the death of the apostles or first century church. God is still walking and talking with his people. Walking with God means the wind of the Holy Spirit is blowing in your life. When we chose to daily walk with God, in relational proximity and intimacy, we will experience the spatial proximity and manifest presence of the Holy Spirit.
In “The Persecuted”, Rodney shares that wearing the authentic label of being a Christ follower will naturally invite persecution to all who wear it. The authentic Christian life calls us to come out from among the world, and to live distinctively and recognizably different. The persecuted are not harassed because of crimes against humanity, or sins against God, but is on account of righteousness - doing the right thing. By living the Christian life openly without reservation, it will bring criticism and will cost the disciple of Christ something. Simply proclaiming the gospel, and living out our profession of faith in Christ, and the teachings of scripture invites persecution. When you wear the authentic label of a Christian you will suffer hardship for following Jesus. The closer you are in proximity to Jesus the greater the possibility of persecution, because of your closeness to the target of the worlds scorn and attack. We are not to seek after persecution or attention from persecutors, but we are to live the spirit-filled life that transforms individuals and cultures when it is lived out in private and public with authenticity. But, cheer up and be glad. According to Jesus, there is a great reward that awaits everyone who actively and purposely lives out their faith, even when doing so leads to their persecution.
In “Peacemakers”, Rodney shares truths about one of the most critical labels that will help us identify his followers is that of a peacemaker. Do not confuse a peacemaker with timidity. Being a peacemaker may be the bravest and most challenging thing you ever do. The starting point to being a peacemaker is to personally be at peace with God. In a very real sense Jesus is the first peacemaker. “For Christ himself has brought peace to us” (Ephesians 2:14). No animal, angel, or man can make peace between man and God. Only Jesus provides an opportunity to have real everlasting peace with God. Only after you have peace with God can you begin to have peace with people. The reason there are so few “Peacemakers” is they operate in an environment of war and hostility. Peacemaking implies there has to be the existence of an active or potential conflict. Making peace is not easy. It will cost you something. Peacemaking will likely put you in harms way. If it cost God the Father giving his son and cost Jesus his life in order for you to have peace with God, why would you and I think that it would cost you any less. But, there is a great reward. When you allow yourself to look like and resemble your heavenly father, by working for peace, you will hear God call out, “You are my child.”
In “Pure In Heart”, Rodney shares that the next recognizable label you should desire to wear as a Christ-follower is the label of “Pure In Heart.” We tend to think of sin as primarily something visible or seen, but God is actually more concerned with where that sin originates – the heart. Like people who slap on paint to a dilapidated house on the verge of being condemned, we hopelessly try to paint ourselves outwardly to cover up the fact we are inwardly a complete shambles, and broken-down mess. God is as concerned with what is going on inside you as much as what is happening outside you. During the time of Jesus, the Pharisee was obsessed with keeping himself outwardly and ceremonially clean. The Jews had 613 laws they were supposed to obey, and the Pharisees tried their best to keep everyone of them. Their over concentration on outward appearance led their hearts astray from true intimate relationship. Their religion became about a bunch of rules instead of love. King David realized that his feeble attempts to live pure on his own power would never work so he cries out to God in a prayer found in Psalm 51, “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.” Those who adopt a life of purity and right living will see, look upon, and experience the true and living God. In the kingdom of God, not everyone has the same access or privileges. Only those considered friends of God, and who are pure in heart will see God now and in heaven.
In “Mercy”, Rodney shares that mercy is what we don’t always like to give, but always praying to receive. Mercy is often associated with a negative context of not dispensing consequences, punishment, or wrath that is deserved because of wrong behavior, or less than what is appropriate, or expectations. Mercy is more than us letting an offense go, or feeling bad for the plight of someone. Mercy includes actions taken to alleviate suffering whenever possible. It is amazing some of us are more motivated to alleviate the pain and suffering of an animal than that of a fellow human made in the likeness and image of God. What does it say about us when we are unmoved, lack feeling, or empathy when we see suffering and don’t respond? A feeling, or thought has never saved, rescued, healed, given, served, or ministered to anyone. Mercy includes actions taken to alleviate suffering whenever possible. When you realize how merciful God has been to you, you will respond with mercy to others, far and near, who need it. What action do you need to take today to alleviate someone’s suffering? “Find a need and fill it.” God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7).
In “Starving For The Right Thing”, Rodney shares the next recognizable label you should desire to wear as a Christ-follower. It is the label of Starving for the Right Thing – Starving for Jesus. There is no other hunger or thirst that is more important or necessary than our hunger and thirst for Jesus. People often pursue things passionately attempting to feed the hunger and quench the thirst in their soul with temporary things. They are trying to satisfy a spiritual hunger with material solutions. This only leaves people feeling unsatisfied, unhappy, and unfulfilled. Only people who respond to this inner craving will find their spiritual appetites satisfied. Our desire for righteousness is not just a longing for what is ethically, morally, or legally just. It is a heartfelt longing for Jesus himself. Jesus is the only one worthy to bear the name the Lord Is Our Righteousness. What are you starving for? Are you starving for Jesus? You will experience all the goodness of God as a consequence of seeking him with your whole heart. “God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6).
In, "Happy Are The Humble" Rodney shares that we live in a world that on one hand we embrace and admire arrogance, cockiness, and pride. On the other, we are put off by it, and more importantly for us to remember, God is not impressed with it, but praises humility and gentleness. Jesus desires hid disciples to appropriately dress in godly humility, in this world. People of the Kingdom of God should openly wear the label of humility. Christian meekness is an outgrowth of a renewed spirit when they are born again. Christian humility believes that when suffering an injury from the hands of another, ultimately, God will judge and be just in his repayment. Humility produces peace. It is evidence that God is doing a work within us. Humility is not weakness. When we act and walk humbly we are living like Jesus. Humbleness is the doorway to entering into the inheritance that God has reserved for those who are citizens of His Kingdom. Humbleness of spirit positions them to receive the maximum benefit and inheritance of the whole earth, the Kingdom of God. For, God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
In “Mourning In Style”, Rodney shares that Jesus tells us true comfort is found through mourning. For someone to mourn or lament means they feel guilt, sadness, deep sorrow, and grief. It refers to a person who will even manifest their grief with wailing and outward expressions that cannot be hid. The scriptures indicate that we should mourn over our personal afflictions and troubles. We should grieve with deep sadness the sins of others and the world. The depth of depravity that we witness and hear about daily is alarming. Even the church is not immune to sins reach. The rise of an apostate church is leading many astray from the genuine Christian faith. Most importantly, we are to mourn for our own sin. Our sin continually reminds us of our personal inadequacy’s, but thank God! The answer to our finding comfort for our mind and soul is found in Jesus Christ our Lord. True repentance brings about comfort. Coming into agreement with what God has said about our condition. Worldly sorrow produces a false sense of righteousness that leads to death. However, godly shame and sorrow produces righteous and salvation. We can experience that God-given comfort hear now, and forevermore. The label a Christian should wear is one of mourning. We, who are wearing the attire of a mourner, will receive the comfort of Christ. This is really mourning in style.
In “Poor In Spirit”, Rodney shares that we live in a culture that often judges and identifies individuals based on the labels they wear. We are identified by our clothes, purses, electronics, and cars. It doesn’t take much investigating to find out what sports team each of us support, but what about our Christian faith? How are followers of Jesus Christ identified? What are the characteristics traits that people can look for to identify and find Jesus followers? Sadly, the world is filled with all sorts of inauthentic knockoffs. Knockoffs are not authentic, cheaper, less durable, and no guarantee or warranties are provided. There is nothing more disappointing than when you find knockoff Christians and Churches. This sermon series, “LABELS” is going to identify some of the distinguishing marks and characteristics of an authentic follower of Jesus Christ and His authentic Church. It is interesting that Jesus begins his famous Sermon on the Mount with talking about how you can label and identify specifically, and distinguish His disciples from the disciples of other teachers. Jesus is more concerned if you’re publically wearing his authentic label over some cheap knockoff. Christians who wear the authentic label of poor in spirit can experience all the Kingdom of Heaven has to offer. This authentic label of the poor in spirit doesn’t fade, expire, fray, or fall apart. The constant reminder of our complete dependency on the grace Christ gives us access to the Kingdom of God.
In “Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit” Rodney shares that Pentecost to both unbelievers and believers is often misunderstood. They hear Pentecost and all sorts of images run through their mind, much of it inaccurate, unfortunately. For believers, Pentecost is celebrated as the Day the believers were first baptized in the Holy Spirit, and was the birth of the Church. In this message we explain that the scriptures speak of three different baptisms. When we talk about the baptism in the Holy Spirit we are talking about a second baptism experience that is post conversion, and available for all believers. The Apostle Peter speaking the words of the Prophet Joel reminds us, “This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” If God had a gift for you to receive, why would you not want to receive it? Get rid of your preconceived ideas or expectations on what it will look, or feel like. You receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit the same way you accepted salvation in Jesus Christ. In faith, receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to baptize you in the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit will come upon you as it did the early disciples.
In “Hey Jude”, Rodney shares that the New Testament book written by Jude was extremely relevant for the Christians living in the first hundred years of the churches birth, but Jude’s words and message speaks a clear and concisely to our generation. Jude is telling the true believers to be alert and keep themselves free from these teachings and lifestyles that would cause them to stumble in their faith journey. False teachers - heretics don’t announce, “Hey we’re here to lead you away from the gospel of Christ.” When the church and a Christian become drowsy spiritually, false teachers subtly worm their way into the church and our lives. Initial appearances make them appear to be Christian, but they are intentionally deceitful, and lead others to sin. Jude challenges us to maintain our faith and the teachings of Christ that were first delivered to his disciples. While false teachers are more prevalent than ever, and our access to the doctrines of devils is more today than anytime in history, God is able to keep us from stumbling. In fact, God chose us, Jesus saved us, and the Holy Spirit has sealed us. God will bring you to himself without blemish or fault. Jude would say, that is a good reason to celebrate the goodness of God.
In “Think Bigger”, Rodney shares that on this Mother’s Day, Jesus wants you to know you are more than your past, your current situation, or what you think your future may be. Jesus see’s you, he hears you, and loves you. You aren’t overlooked. You are a part of God’s intentional divine plan. You are a continuation of Jesus’ divine mission. God’s purposes for you are greater than any dream you have ever had. “Think Bigger”! On this Mother’s Day you need to know, in your case, meeting Jesus is not luck, or a coincident. Jesus chose you, and is choosing you right now. Jesus’ meeting and connection with you is about more than you. It is about reaching a family, a generation, and a city. Don’t underestimate the value and importance of your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Your relationship will be the catalyst to someone else connecting to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. You are a continuation of Jesus’ divine mission. His path and steps are purposeful. It was not a mistake or simple coincident that Jesus is here today offering you living water. Your soul may be thirsty and feel weighed down by issues of life, but Jesus will satisfy your real need. Your meeting with Jesus isn’t just about you. God’s purposes for you are greater than just filling your personal vessel. Through you, Jesus stands ready to be the well of salvation, restoration, and satisfaction for you and those you do life with.
In “Seek First”, Rodney shares that besides focus, another key factor in your success this year is can you learn to focus on what is essential, and prioritize what is most important. Your attempt to organize your life is a Godly thing. Something deeply spiritual can happen in your life when you begin to get your life in order. In fact, the more organized a person is the greater potential of them being more productive, and what is produced will be of greater significance. Learning to master and organize your life will lead you to getting more done for the kingdom, and your family. We have been called to seek the kingdom of God above all else, for when we do the rest of our life falls into its right place, and our needs are met. The greatest activity you can do to accomplish God’s will for your life is to have a regular, daily time alone seeking God. Prioritizing your life today, may be God’s top priority for your life today. Only you can make your life a priority. Seek first God’s presence, and his will everyday. Make your life a priority by prioritizing your daily routine. No better time to start than today.
In “Divine Urgency” Rodney shares that many of us have family or close friends who have never accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. As well as, many of us have family or friends who at one time served the Lord, or at least professed to having a growing relationship with Jesus, but have since walked away from the church, their relationship with Jesus, or the Christian faith altogether. This message is a wake-up call - a wake-up call not just to those who are lost, or have fallen in their spiritual walk, but a wake-up call for the church. This is the moment to stir within you a divine urgency for our family and friends who are distant from a growing relationship with Jesus. Have we grown comfortable with following Jesus, but forgotten the urgency of the hour and task to reach those closest to us with the message of Jesus? Divine urgency only happens when we have personally met and seen Jesus for ourselves. If we lack divine urgency it is time to relook and refresh in our heart, and mind the image of the Christ.
In “He Will Return”, Rodney shares that Luke, a ministry partner with the Apostle Paul, painstakingly investigated the evidence about Jesus, and wanted to ensure there was a proper accounting of the life of Jesus, and subsequent events that could be passed on, that was trusted as a reliable source of truth. Luke briefly writes about an event known as, the Ascension of Jesus, which took place 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The Ascension marks the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, and the beginning of the churches ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit. It marked the return to His glory in Heaven, and exaltation to the right hand of God. It indicated the beginning of His work as High Priest. It allowed Him to prepare a place for us. Lastly, it set up the pattern of His return. Jesus is the Messiah, and He Will Return!
In “The Preponderance Of Evidence”, Rodney shares that The entire Christian faith rises or collapses on the resurrection of Jesus. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. Simply, if there is no resurrection – there is no promise of eternal life, all the promises of Jesus and God are empty, and Jesus would not be the Messiah. If fact, Jesus foretold how you can validate who Jesus claimed to be, Son of God, and Messiah. In other words, Jesus foretells publically, the sign to look for will be when Jesus dies, three days later he will come back to life. The resurrection authenticates and proves his ministry, and His claims of being the Son of God, Messiah, Savior, and Lord. JESUS the MESSIAH – He is our Firm Foundation!
In “It’s Okay, Come Back To God” Rodney shares that The people of Israel were looking for a military leader to drive their enemies away, and once again establish Israel's independence and a royal dynasty. Could Jesus be the Messiah? Jesus would free them and establish a kingdom. But, it would be unlike any other before or since. It is God’s Kingdom. The revolution would start with a death, not a military victory. This would be a different kind of kingdom. As we prepare for the Easter Celebration, how do we know we are right with God? Is it really okay? Yes, Jesus is the Messiah. It’s okay, “Come back to God!” The work of Jesus Christ on the cross is sufficient to pay for our sin debt. The wrath of God was appeased, and can be reconciled to God. No longer are our sins being counted against us; rather, God made Jesus who never sinned take our place, and punishment. Jesus exchanged his cloak of righteous for our sin, and we exchanged our cloak of sin and shame for His righteous. Now, we stand before God justified, and free from the penalty of our sins. Because, who ever Jesus sets free is free indeed. So, Come back to God!
In “The Whole Armor Of God”, Rodney shares that that apostle Paul challenges Christians to put on the whole armor of God. When we fail to put on all the armor of God we leave ourselves vulnerable to spiritual injury, defeat, and death. God has fully equipped you for any and every task you are called to, or enemy you face. Whether you know it or not, you are in the middle of a raging war between good and evil. You can’t avoid it. You must be armed and ready. Are you ready for war? In Christ you have power over the enemy! “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”
In, “Spirit-Guided Relationships” Rodney shares that the apostle Paul details how Spirit-filled Christians should relate to each other in the family of God. Many of us recoil from the word submit. We wish it weren’t in the Bible. It seems to go against human nature. Yet, without it life can devolve into a chaos. Yet, mutual submission is a fundamental of Christian relationships. Submission seems to be a weakness, but it is far from it. Our spiritual walk is one of humility, mutual submission, and service to each other, recognizing each others value. The implications of Ephesians 5:21, and the passages that follow, are far reaching. Imagine if every Christian willfully acted in full mutual submission to one another and those in authority. It would create a revolution and the ripple effects would be felt globally. Spirit-Guided relationships call us to mutual submission. Spirit-Guided relationships require us to treat one another with respect, love, honor, and humility, “as to the Lord.” Spirit-Guided Relationships should be the goal of every Christian whether we are married, a child, parent, employee, or employer understanding and practicing submission to one another, as to the Lord, will lead to a more peaceful, productive, and long life.
In “Be Filled With The Holy Spirit” Rodney shares followers of Jesus are instructed by the apostle Paul to be careful to look intentionally, and strictly examine their lives to avoid unwise behaviors that are detrimental to their spiritual walk, and influence with others. In fact, we are to make the most of every opportunity to share the light of Christ because the world is filled with all kinds of evil. So rather than act thoughtlessly, and with inconsideration, we should actively seek to understand what God’s will is, and what he wants us to do. In order to hear God’s voice, Christians should avoid drunkenness in private or public, because it will ruin and waste your life. The Bible is full of times when people celebrated. Society promotes a very care free attitude regarding drunkenness. But, drunkenness is never to be celebrated by Christians. Nothing good comes from being intoxicated with alcohol, or under the influence drugs that alter our ability to think rationally, feel emotions, or respond physically. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will fill the parts of your life where there is a void. The Holy Spirit will empower you to live righteously and witness for Christ. The heart must remain in a constant state of worship to the Lord, and give thanks to God for everything. Be filled with the Holy Spirit!
In “Imitators Of God”, Rodney shares that it has been said, “imitation is the sincerity form of flattery.” In light of all that God has done for us, we should be imitate God in how we live and practice our faith. As “Imitators of God”, believers should demonstrate that type of self-sacrificial love, holiness, and forgiveness we have witnessed and experienced in Christ. To imitate God means to live like Jesus. It means abandoning what the scriptures reveal, and God has declared as immorality, impurity, and greed. Once we were consumed by spiritual darkness, but now we the light of Christ shines in our hearts. So, illuminate the world with how you live. Arise, and shine for God’s glory is resting on you.
In “Living As The Children Of The Light”, Rodney shares that in the fourth chapter of Ephesians, the apostle Paul contrasts the difference between how Gentiles, and Christ-followers should live. The life of a believer, in Christ, should be distinctly different than those living apart from Christ. Because the Unbelievers are not “in Christ” their minds are not in the process of transformation. Therefore, they do not think or understand truth, nor can they act in truth or righteously. They are hopelessly confused. Therefore, they make unwise life choices. They never make the connection between their sin, behavior, and the consequences, and the right solution or answer. We live in a world and culture that tells us to avoid calling things shameful. Yet, apart from Christ we ALL are shameful. Our tendency is to lessen the absolute grossness of sin. Our sin is putrid, poisonous, and deadly. But, as a Christian, as Paul said, we “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” This change every believer experiences, living in Christ, leads us to practice our faith and live differently than the rest of the world.
In “Ephesians – Walk In Unity”, Rodney shares that Christians should lead lives worthy of their calling to walk in Christ and unity with one another. Our lives should be identified by the character traits of humility, gentleness, and patience. These were model by Christ for us as an example of how to live and behave. Everyone who is a part of the church should strive to protect and preserve unity. So that the church will grow to be fully healthy and mature, Christ has given to the church gifts. These gifts build up the entire church body so that it is equipped to serve and fulfill the mission of Christ. Amazingly, God has included your uniqueness into his plan, and is prepared to use you to glorify His name, build up the church, and serve others.
In “A Prayer Of Reflection And Realization”, Rodney shares that when we think about the goodness of God, and every spiritual gift He provides, and the special responsibility we have in sharing the truths of God’s grace and the church. It was God’s plan to invite all peoples into experiencing life in Christ and sharing equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. It is a privilege to be a servant of God and carry this wonderful message which has been revealed through Christ Jesus. “Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence” (Eph 3:12). Reflecting on all this drives us to our knees in prayer. We pray to be empowered with inner strength, have the power to understand the love of Christ, and personally experience the reality of the love of Christ. May you experience the power of Christ working in you, to accomplish more than you can imagine.
In "We Are The Church", Rodney shares that it would do all believers well to never forget our faith journey. The apostle Paul contrasts our past nature, apart from Christ, with our present position in Christ Jesus. We formerly lived apart from Christ, and were excluded from the blessings of God, and without hope. But now, we are one in Christ. The work of Jesus has united both Jewish and Gentile believers who have had their hearts transformed by his blood. Also, we now have peace in Christ. We experience peace with God, and one another. The wall of hostility that separated Jew and Gentile, slave and slave, male and female has been removed by Christ. The wall of hostility removed, Jesus is building His church in its place. We, both Jew and Gentile, all who call and confess Jesus, Lord - We Are The Church! Together we are his house. We have been intentionally placed with care into the church he is building, where Jesus Christ is the foundation, and Chief Cornerstone.
In "Saved By Grace, Seated With Christ", Rodney shares that the same Spirit that was working on and through Jesus Christ now makes us alive "in Christ". Without Jesus Christ we are spiritually dead and lost. That means we are utterly lifeless, powerless, helpless, and unable to change our condition or any other circumstances or environment. Living the Christian life is impossible without living "in Christ". Living as a Christian, without Jesus only leads to frustration. Just because you don't feel like you did anything wrong, intended to sin, or know you sinned doesn't mean you haven't sinned. All of us have sinned. But GOD! In Christ, God loved us, gave us, raised us, and has seated us with Christ Jesus in heavenly places. "God saved you by his grace when we believed... It a free gift from God." So, we have been created anew "in Christ." We are SAVED by GRACE and SEATED with CHRIST.
In “A Prayer To Understand”, Rodney shares that the apostle Paul was thankful the Ephesians believers, and inspired to continue offering unceasing prayer for them. His desire was for them to understand the hope they have in Christ. They had experienced the exceeding greatness of God’s power. May you receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus. May the eyes of your understanding be opened; to the hope of his return and the blessings that accompany Him. Finally, may you personally experience the greatness of God’s power and might, in Christ, and the unmatched majesty of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
In “Praise God For Every Spiritual Blessing”, Rodney shares that the apostle Paul writes in the letter of Ephesians about the position and practices of the Christian who is living in Christ. In Christ, every believer has received every spiritual blessing from God. Knowing this, we ought to praise the Father for choosing us. God has a chosen people, the church, in Christ. The plan of salvation was made before the creation of Adam, not in response to the fall, and sin of Adam. God’s predestined plan of salvation includes His initiation to save us, and our response to His truth. In addition, we should praise the Son for redeeming us. The shedding of Jesus’ blood purchased our freedom from sin and death. Now that we are united with Christ, we praise the Holy Spirit for sealing us. In Christ, we have been identified and sealed by the Holy Spirit as belonging to God. The inner and outer work of the Holy Spirit is the guarantee that God purchased us. Therefore, we praise God for all the spiritual blessings we have received, in Christ Jesus.
In “FOCUS”, Rodney shares that a failure to FOCUS can derail you from reaching your goals. FOCUS brings clarity, and helps you eliminate non-essentials. FOCUS is essential to achieving ultimate success. If you are going to FOCUS on your goals you must commit to continually PRESS ON, even when faced with tough circumstances, or feel like giving up. A deep commitment to FOCUS will help you FORGET YOUR PAST, and FOCUS FORWARD. There will come a pivotal time, this next year, when you must recommit to FOCUS, or you may miss the opportunity to achieve your dreams and goals. Yesterday can’t be changed or repeated. FOCUS FORWARD. A runner can’t run full speed looking behind him, and you won’t reach your full potential constantly looking behind you. So FOCUS FORWARD and REACH for the PRIZE that God has set for you this year. God has an amazing race for you to run this year, and at the end of it is a heavenly reward. So, run! Run with FOCUS!
In “Savior”, Rodney shares that there is a great significance to the name of JESUS. Jesus is the centerpiece of the gospel message and Christmas story. According to historians, Jesus was a very common name among the Jewish people during first century Judea, at the time Jesus of the Bible lived. The meaning of the name Jesus is, “Yahweh saves” or “Yahweh is salvation”. The name Jesus was so common and is perfect for the uncommon God who chose to dwell closely with his people. This uncommon God, through JESUS, chose to do what no one else was capable of doing – “save his people from their sins.” Isaiah 53 describes Jesus, the Messiah, as the suffering servant who bore our sins. In retrospect, when Jesus see’s and reviews the suffering, humiliation, pain, and gruesome work of Jesus on the cross, He will be satisfied. It is finished. He will see the fruit of his labor. The church, his bride will be adorned in beauty and spend eternity with him heaven. He bore our sins and we bear them no more, and Jesus now continually makes intercession for you and me.
In “JESUS – Fully Man” Rodney shares that Jesus is the God-man who came to earth to die for our sins, and to reveal God to us. Jesus had two natures. He was 100% God, and 100% man at the same time. In part 1 of this sermon series we focused primarily on the deity of Jesus. This message we will examine the importance of Jesus’ humanity. The apostle John wrote, “So the Word became human and made his home among us.” This is a simple but profound truth about the incarnation and birth of Jesus. The Old Testament predicted the arrival of God in the flesh. The scriptures reveal how Jesus was as human as you and me. Having a God who understands our weaknesses, disappointments, and weariness is comforting. But, Jesus did not come only come to know what we experience. God came in the form of man - Jesus Christ, in order to be the Savior of mankind. Jesus being “fully man” means He fulfilled the requirements to be an acceptable sacrifice and payment for our sin. Jesus is fully man – the Savior of the world. The apostle Peter stated, “God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.” The incarnation is God’s gift to us, who needed a Savior. This is why Jesus is the centerpiece of Christmas.
In “JESUS – Fully God”, Rodney shared that Jesus is the reason and centerpiece of our Christmas celebrations. In this series, during the Christmas season, I want you to learn and understand the doctrine of the incarnation and its effect on your relationship with God. The incarnation and Christmas introduces and teaches us: Jesus is the God-man who came to earth to die for our sins, and to reveal God to us. Since Jesus became God in the flesh we can have assurance that he understands our problems, heartache, disappointments, and concerns. The wonder and truth of the incarnation still has an impact on your life today. You should not let this truth escape your grasps this Christmas. The incarnation is at the center of the gospel message. There is no gospel (good news) without the incarnation.
In “Momentum Builders” Rodney shares that God desires for you to prosper. Can you believe that? He sure does. God wants you to prosper in all your life: Family, Work, and your Church. This issues we face in life are easier to handle and solve if we have and build momentum. This is a great time of year and a wonderful opportunity for you to build momentum and change the culture or trajectory of your family, business, or help your church reach more people this next year. You need to constantly build on your momentum. How can you use this holiday season to begin a ‘winning streak’ for your family, business, or church? Momentum can inspire others to get involved, and raise their level of productivity. How long will you wait before you help your family, business, or church build momentum? You could be the person that is the catalyst that changes the story of your family, the culture of your company, or impact of your church. Leverage your holidays for building momentum. You can spend your life solving problems or building momentum. But, you will live a more fulfilling life if you chose to be a Momentum Builder.
In “Refuge” Rodney shares that the believers’ life is defined by both triumph and struggle. Notice, I did not say defeat, but we do experience struggle, adversity, trials, and battles with opposing forces. Life is moments of celebration and joy, but it also can feel like a battlefield. At times we can feel like the battle is ours. At other times we can feel like we are being overrun. The psalmist declares, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” We will not fear. The devil and this world cannot overcome us, and God is in control and loves us. So, let the earth quake, let the mountains crumble and tremble, and let the waters rage and surge. We will not fear. God is our refuge, and He is here among us. His works are glorious and we as children are to “Be still, and know He is God!” God is our refuge and strength, and He is in control. So, we will not fear.
In “Priority Seating” Rodney shares that God makes people who are experiencing some challenges, or crippled by life a priority. He still gives priority attention and seating to those who are hurting. God wants to set your heart at ease. God’s intent is to show you kindness. God has overlooked your condition, and your disabilities do not disqualify you from being restored, and having a new relationship with the King. God’s promise to you is on account of Jesus. God gives blessings and grace beyond your imagine. God’s invitation to you, to relationship, and eating at the king’s table still stands.
In “Praise Instead Of Despair”, Rodney shares that we all experience feelings of sadness from time to time, but when faced with hardships, our spirit of heaviness may deepen into depression, and darker places if we feel stuck in circumstances that are not likely to change anytime soon, if ever. But, let me encourage you, the season you are in is exactly that. It is a season. This season will pass. Rather than fixate on our problems, look to the Savior who promises to rescue us from despair. The Lord will exchange our ashes of despair for crowns of dignity and celebration. The Lord is bringing you out of your season of mourning into a season of blessing. God will exchange your “spirit of heaviness” for a mantle of inner and outward praise. If you allow him, God will turn your sorrow and despair, into joy and praise. For, God is preparing to firmly plant you in Him, and his righteous will be seen in you, and it will glorify His name.
In “Scared To Death” Rodney shares that when you allow fear to control your life instead of following God’s voice, it can lead to the death of dreams, relationships, and fulfilling God’s will for your life. When you are “scared to death” you make deadly decisions. The Israelites when they were prepared to enter Canaan and receive the promises of God, they halted and refused to believe God had fulfilled his promise to Abraham and the Israelites. When your opinion contradicts the Lord’s promises fear is often the culprit. Your feeling of being “Scared to Death” will never lead you to a place of victory and inheriting the promises of God. What has God told you to do, but you haven’t because you are scared to death? God has a marvelous plan for your life filled with bountiful blessings if you trust him. God is faithful to his word and promises. Come into agreement with what God says and sees. What would you do and accomplish if you knew you, and what God told you to do would not fail? What aren’t you doing right now because you are scared to death? The consequences of rejecting God’s plan can have devastating results to you and those closest to you. Don’t be scared to death! Do not fear! Have faith in God! Trust God’s promises. He is faithful.
In “Living Stones”, Rodney shares the Jesus Christ is the chosen living Cornerstone from the foundation of the world, selected by God for great honor. Additionally, you and I were perfectly chosen and hewn to fit into the spiritual temple that God is building. Our lives and inclusion into the church are laid upon the foundation of Jesus Christ as spiritual sacrifices. Those who reject Jesus as Lord find him to be a stumbling block. But, those who accept Jesus as Lord have been appointed and permanently built into the Church, as living stones. God calls you a chosen people, a royal priest, a holy nation, and his very own possession. So, show God’s goodness to the world and glorify him because of him bringing you out of the darkness of your sinful life and broken situations and into the marvelous, wonderful light of God’s grace and mercy.
In “Desert and Drought Dwellers”, Rodney shares, “Desert and Drought Dwellers” have to develop a certain kind of toughness. To survive, they have to become rugged individuals. During our times of desert and drought we must be patient and wait on the provision of God. Your personal desert and drought experience might be the way God is preserving, protecting, and providing for you. It is in those places next to our personal Kerith Brooks where we gain greater intimacy with the Lord. We are in solitude being fed the bread and meat from God’s word, and refreshed by the waters of his Holy Spirit. Yet, the means of God’s provision today may not be the means of God provision tomorrow. Regardless, God is still faithful to supply our needs.
In “Knock Down”, Rodney shares that there are significant structures not built of bricks and mortar, but in our minds. Our thoughts and thinking build an opinion that becomes an attitude, which influences our behavior, and creates a life. Some of us have a good thought life, but others might be building our life on philosophies, teachings, false doctrines, and ideologies that are opposed to Christ, and the Spirit-filled life. Some of us in the church practically live our life not considering, or outright rejecting clear biblical instructions. We’ve built a skewed Christian worldview in our mind. There is an unseen spiritual reality that is real. We need to take spiritual warfare more serious than what we typically do. Daily our minds are under assault by a barrage of images, thoughts. Many of the thoughts that cross our mind each day are not real, based in reality, true, come from God, or of the Spirit. You must knock down the thoughts that the devil would seek to build in your mind. He will attempt to build a stronghold in your mind, one brick - one thought at a time. Every day thousands of thoughts come into our mind. Many are opposed to the purposes of Christ. Bring every thought into captivity. Make them conform to the will and mind of Christ.
In “Brokenhearted”, Rodney shares that the world is full of heartache. So many of the songs we sing, art we show in a galleries, pictures we show and share with one another, novels that are written, and movies we watch are filled with people who are heartbroken. Both saint and sinner - all of us experience a broken heart. The hurt can be caused by numerous different reasons. Whatever it may be, I want you to begin your healing today, in Jesus name. For David wrote in the Psalms, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirit’s are crushed.” The Lord beckons you to draw close to God, leave your worries and cares with Him, and then He will heal your wounded heart. If you are brokenhearted, begin your journey towards wholeness.
In “Lord Of The Sabbath”, Rodney shares many people are exhausted physically from their jobs, and making a living. But, he sees just as many people who are exhausted spiritually because of they are “spiritual workaholics”. They are preoccupied with trying to earn and work their way into heaven, and a right relationship with Jesus. They aren’t resting in the sufficiency of Jesus and his completed work on the cross. A correct biblical understanding is one that builds faith upon the sufficiency of Jesus’ work on the cross and resting in the grace of Christ. Modern-day Pharisees place excessive burdens on themselves and others in an attempt to work for their salvation, and to have a relationship with Jesus. But, Jesus declared that He is “Lord of the Sabbath”. Your work and goodness is insufficient for maintaining a relationship with God. Only the Lord of the Sabbath can give you rest from your work and give your soul the rest you need. Jesus came to provide us rest from laboring to achieve our own salvation by our works. Because of the sufficiency of the work of Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice on the cross, we can now forever cease from our work and laboring to attain God’s favor and acceptance. Jesus is our Rest - rest in his mercy and grace.
In “Victory At All Costs”, Rodney shares that winning and losing, one brings joy and a sense of accomplishment, the other can bring heartbreak and a sense of failure. The Church, a nation, an organization, a business, and a family all have one thing in common. They all face challenges from time to time. In order to overcome the serious issues we face, we need leaders, in every church, capital building, school board meeting, civic group, company from the boardroom to the assembly line, and household with a “Victory At All Costs” attitude and mindset. The world we live in is complex. Are you willing to lead your church, family, organization to victory at all costs? The types of people who see sustained success financially, relationally, and spiritually have developed a victors mindset. Start your winning streak today – “Victory At All Costs”!
In “There Is A Man”, Rodney shares that God wants us to be leaders and influencers in the world. God strategically places his people with unusual giftings and talents throughout the world to influence and lead others to the Kingdom of God. The world is struggling with issues and questions, but you have the answer to the worlds’ problems. The world is calling and counting on you to provide an answer. It needs you to be its problem-solver. God has given you the ability to untie the knotted thoughts and misunderstandings in their minds. Who can interpret the signs and writing of God for this generation? You are called to share and speak the words of God for this generation. Will the world say of you, “There is a man…”, “There is a woman…” who has the Holy Spirit? You have the answers and understanding to explain truth to the world needs to hear.
In “There Is A Man”, Rodney shares that if we are going to change the culture, and bring society back from the brink of self-destruction we must influence areas of education, religion, family, business, government/military, arts/entertainment, and media. God wants us to be leaders and influencers in the world. We are to be representatives of the Kingdom of God, this includes the schools. The book of Daniel reveals the words, thoughts, and deeds of an Old Testament prophet that was divinely equipped with aptitude, wisdom, and understanding. This divine gift was recognized by those in leadership and it elevated the prophet Daniel to a place of significant influence in the king of Babylon’s court. The world is in crisis. It is looking for answers to the multitude of problems it is facing. Will the world say of you, “There is a man…”, “There is a woman…” who has the Spirit of the Holy God. The world may see and sense God is doing something, but they don’t understand it. They are in distress. You have the answers and understanding to explain truth the world needs to hear.
In “Who Is The Holy Spirit”, Rodney shares that the Bible describes God as one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Of the three members of the trinity, in some circles, the Holy Spirit is often forgotten and at times not esteemed as much as the other two members of the trinity. The Holy Spirit is also frequently misunderstood. God is spirit, not a material form. The Holy Spirit is not gendered. The Spirit is not a force, power, or it. The scriptures declare the Holy Spirit is God. The Spirit is the third person of the trinity and has the same attributes as the Father and the Son (Jesus). The Holy Spirit has been at work since creation and will be at the end of this age. The Spirit was active in the creation, assimilation, and preservation of scripture. He was active during Jesus’ earthly ministry and continued ministry of the church. He convicts the world of sin, gives new life to believers, indwells and infills believers. Fresh outpourings of the presence of the Holy Spirit can and are being experienced today. You can receive the Holy Spirit, today, into your life by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
In “God’s Calling”, Rodney shares that there is a longing in us to know what our purpose is. God has designed each of us for purpose – a calling – “a God calling”. God will providential direct your steps when you commit your whole self to him. We pray to have the mind of Christ, and insight but sometimes the way can seem blocked. Leave room for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes the leading of the Holy Spirit can be as simple as a closed, or open door. How open are you to listening and following the lead of the Holy Spirit? When you say “yes” to God’s call the Holy Spirit will lead you where you are needed.
In “Uptick During A Downturn” Rodney shares that current economic conditions are forecasting rough waters ahead, but those who follow some basic money management principles can weather the economic storm that is brewing, and actually come out ahead stronger and healthier when this time of economic hardship and inflation are over. It is possible to experience an "Uptick During A Downturn". When you deal with your personal debt, commit to being honest with others in your transactions, live by the principles outlined by God in the scriptures about finances, and honor the Lord with your resources you can experience an uptick during a downturn in the economy and come out ahead.
In “Freedom’s Call To Sacrifice” Rodney shares that with great freedom and liberty comes sacrifice and responsibility. You are a steward of the freedom God has entrusted you with. How are you managing your freedom? How should Christ followers who have been set free by Jesus live in a free country? The Apostle Paul instructed the early church that they “…must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble.” We should restrain our freedom and liberty when others may be tempted and stumble in their faith walk. Freedom and Restraint (Sacrifice) may seem to be at odds, but actually it is a wonderful picture of what true freedom looks like. Because Jesus has set us free, and we are in free indeed, we are free to willingly and lovingly sacrifice so that others can be free.
In “Blessed Are The Peacemakers”, Rodney shares that this has been one of the most contentious issues our nation has dealt with in its history. The recent SCOTUS ruling concerning the overturning of Roe V Wade and the response of individuals brings the deep divisions and discontent front and center. The church should praise and rejoice because of the decision rendered, but we should also walk with humility and be ministers of reconciliation. In a world that is always on edge and struggling to control its never-ending rage, Christians are called to be peacemakers. Jesus reconciled us to the Father, and when we promote peace and reconciliation we are living like Jesus. Those who bring the wonderful message of God’s peace to the world are "peacemakers," and Jesus calls them the "children of God." God has called us to live peaceful lives. Personal peace comes from knowing the Prince of Peace - Jesus. The more Christians actively work for peace the more our world experiences the peace of God.
In “Unless the Lord Builds a House”, Rodney shares that our life is filled with choices and decisions, some good, others bad. A person may have good intentions, but sometimes results can leave us with regrets. Like a game of chess, everyday is filled with countless options and unforeseen events. We certainly can’t control every outcome, but we can set ourselves up for success overtime when we prioritize God and biblical principles when managing our life and families. Many people are more concerned with building their houses, cars, things, money, or status than they are building and preparing a “home”. You can prepare. You can plan. Your can guard. You can build. But unless the Lord builds a house your work is in vain. Life if filled with unexpected things, but the one thing that is reliable is the advocate – Jesus, who pleads our case before the Father.
In “Leading Others Towards Life-Change”, Rodney shares that growth is the sign of blessing from the beginning, and is the legacy of kings. If we are going to be known as a healthy, prosperous, life-giving church we must begin to be “fruitful and multiply”. Our heart desire may be to see others come to know Christ, but the irony is while I want to see life-change in others; it won’t happen unless it first happens in me. Leading others to Jesus isn’t God’s problem, and there isn’t a problem with the message. Some might say, “We are to blame.” But, “We are not the problem. WE are the solution.” The solution is making ourselves available to allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us, in order to persuade others toward Jesus Christ. No need will be met, or vision completed without someone saying, “Yes” to leading the way for others to follow. So, have people bought into you? The greatest Bible story some people will ever read is you.
In “Run With Confidence and Power”, Rodney shares that the Lord delegated his church with authority to share the message of the gospel and kingdom of God, but there is still one aspect that is needed if the church is to fulfill the mission of Jesus. We, the Church, have been given delegated authority, and POWER in the name of Jesus Christ to do the will, and works of God. The miraculous power of God, in Jesus’ name, on display is a witness to his supreme Lordship. Miraculous signs are a witness so that we believe in Jesus. This is why every believer must walk in the delegated authority and power of the Holy Spirit. If the church is to fulfill the command of Jesus to go and make disciples we must do it in the “authority” and “power” of Jesus Christ.
In “The Starting Line”, Rodney shares that you can’t win a race if you don’t ever leave the starting line. God has called us to leave the starting line and run for the goal he has set before us. The early church didn’t stay at the starting line, they ran with the purpose and commission Jesus had given them. Because of the work of Jesus on the cross, and his subsequent resurrection, all authority has been given to him on earth and in heaven. Now, Christ-followers are to live with the delegated authority given to us by Jesus Christ. We, the Church, have been given delegated authority, and power in the name of Jesus Christ to do the will, and works of God. Our Christian duty is to go and make disciples of all nations. Jesus promises his followers they can be assured that when they obey his command to go share the message of Christ that he will be with them always. No one wins a race at the starting line. It is only when we leave the starting line, when we go and fulfill the command of Jesus to make disciples that we win the race the Lord has set before us.
In “When Jesus Finds You”, Rodney shares that the most glorious day in your faith journey is when Jesus finds you. You may be in a place in your faith journey where your low is as low as it has ever been. You had hoped for glorious. Now, that seems like a thousand lifetimes ago, and a million miles away. But, all it takes is one simple conversation or meeting with Jesus and your gloomy day can be turned into a “Glorious Day”. Three days after the death of Jesus, two disciples on the road to Emmaus and walking away from their faith, hopes, and dreams suddenly meet the resurrected Jesus Christ. Not knowing, initially, it was him they discussed recent events, their hopes, and sincere questions with Jesus. Their words reveal the disposition of their heart, and minds. They didn’t believe initial reports they heard that Jesus was alive. But, after Jesus was invited to stay awhile with the disciples, when Jesus broke the bread and blessed it in front of them, suddenly their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. How many times has Jesus come to us, and we didn’t recognize him? When we see Jesus with eyes of faith it will liberate, inspire, and open doorways to all that is good in your life. The Lord Jesus really is risen! He will come along side you at the point of your doubt, and overcome it. Once your hearts begin to burn again within you, tell the story of how Jesus appeared to you on your faith journey, and experience his peace.
In “When Jesus Washed Me”, Rodney shares that one thing every Christian has in common is a personal encounter with Jesus when he washed – cleansed away our sin. That day is likely the most glorious day in a Christians life. Jesus loved his disciples to the very end, completely. Even though, he knew one would betray him, another deny him, and the others desert him. How many times have we betrayed, denied, and deserted Jesus? If we are honest, all our lives are littered with betrayal, denial, and desertion. Yet, Jesus still loves us, completely. It was customary for servants to wash the feet of guests upon their arrival, before they sat down to eat. Jesus began doing the unthinkable – washing the feet of the disciples. While the disciples recognized what Jesus was doing, taking on the role of a servant, none of the disciples offered themselves for the task. Maybe they thought themselves above having to do a menial task. Maybe they had grown accustomed to walking in close proximity with the Lord that they began to seen him as ordinary. When Peter initially rejected Jesus washing his feet, Jesus said, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” That may seem to be excessive. Unless, wash doesn’t just mean, “wash your feet”. When you learn the meaning of what Jesus did in John 13, it will be one of the most glorious days of your Christian journey and experience.
In “I Remember When Jesus ________”, Rodney shares that as a Christian during the Easter season, our thoughts should remember the goodness of Jesus in our life. What would you say, or could you do for someone who did something for you that can not be quantified? Do you remember when Jesus ________? You can fill in the blank. If Jesus changed and transformed your life, what should be your response? The gospel of John tells of an event just days before his last Passover meal, arrest, and subsequent crucifixion. Mary, the sister of Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead only a few months prior, is the honored guest at a party in the town of Bethany. She anointed and washed the feet of Jesus with expensive oil. The fragrance filled the room. This was an extravagant act of gratitude and worship on public display. Her gift and sacrifice were costly. She was giving her all. She poured it out without measure upon Jesus’ feet. This is a picture of the extravagant gift of ourselves and offering that we ourselves are challenged to give. Mary and the others saw the act as an act of extravagant love, but likely didn’t realize the true significance of what she had done. How many times have we missed the greater picture of what God was doing, or express thanks? In a few days, the glory of God would be on full display. The glory of God’s goodness can still be experienced today. When people hear and see what Jesus did for you and me, it gives them hope that what He did for us, He will do for them. But, first, we must remember what Jesus has done for us. Reflecting on his goodness calls us to worship Him, and our pure, unbridled expressions of gratitude from our heart will cause others to pause and consider the work of Jesus Christ. When they do, that will be a glorious day.
In “What In The World Is Going On”, Rodney shares that Pastor’s are being asked this more, right now, more than any time in my ministry. Is this the end of the world? Is Jesus about ready to return? Is it time for Armageddon? Wouldn’t you like to know? Conservatively, Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that predicted his first arrival, death, and resurrection. There are a few prophecies that still need to be fulfilled before the return of Jesus Christ, but there are “0” prophecies that need to be fulfilled before the rapture of the Church. It would behoove us to examine the words of Jesus related to what he says about the end times, and compare it to what we are currently experiencing. If the words of Jesus are true, then we need to pay attention. We may be only moments away from God doing something really spectacular and you don’t want to miss it. The scriptures teach Jesus will return again, but until he does Christians are to be about fulfilling the mission of Jesus, until all the world has heard his message.
In “The Ministry of Laying On of Hands", Rodney shares that when a person comes into a church they will be exposed to various rituals and traditions. What does the Bible teach about the laying on of hands? Did the ancient church practice it, and should it still be practiced today? These rituals we perform in a church are not for a mere spectacle. The scripture reveals at least 5 significant uses for the practice of laying on of hands by the Church. God has chosen for his purposes and our benefit the ministry of laying on of hands as a sign of his grace, power, and presence.
In “I Wonder Why”, Rodney shares that broken hearts and grief drives us to ask, “Why – why, God?” We try to reason “why” things are the way they are logically to protect ourselves. God listens to our questions “why”, but most often answers with a “who”. When you continue to focus on why it reveals my sense of entitlement, which can lead to bitterness? “Why” leaves us feeling discouraged and hopeless. “Who” leads us to help, healing, and hope. When we pour out our heart asking, “Why, God, I wonder why?” God answers back, “I am ‘Who’ you need.” Asking why doesn’t diminish the pain, but He, who holds all things together in the palm of his hand, can heal the wounded soul. What “I wonder why ____” question do you have on your heart? God is working even when we don’t see him, and using everything in your life to bring about good so that you can fulfill your life’s purpose.
In “The Cloud Of Glory”, Rodney shares that when we first attended church we came for various different reasons. Hopefully, eventually, we move to wanting to have a sincere, authentic encounter with God. God’s people have always experienced God’s presence and glory, but in different ways, in different times. Nevertheless, we can be assured that it is possible to have a profound personal experience with the glory of God. The Israelites in the Old Testament experienced God’s glory in the tangible earthly manifestation of a cloud, often referred to as the “shekinah glory” of God. The cloud of God guided, and guarded God’s people, and eventually would rest upon the mercy seat, the lid, of the Ark of the Covenant. The New Testament now teaches that God’s Spirit doesn’t exist in a temple made by human hands, but in Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit residing in the hearts of men. Today, you can experience the glory of God by asking him to enter in. Ask him into your heart and life. Someday we will witness the return of Jesus coming in the clouds of glory to set up his earthly kingdom. He will create a new heaven and earth. There will be no need for sun or moon as the glory of God will be its light. Are you ready to experience Jesus, in all of his glory?
In “Guard God’s Heart”, Rodney shares that not only the world, but Christians in the Church can offend, and grieve the Holy Spirit. Are you guarding God’s heart? oIn light of all God has done for us, when we live beneath the life God has intended for us it breaks God’s heart. Paul challenges the church to throw off our old sinful nature, like dirty clothes. Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. We are to put on the new nature of Christ, clothing ourselves in righteousness. Every time we sin or behave beneath the life God has intended for us, we trash our temple – God’s temple. We break God’s heart when we live beneath the life Jesus intends for us to live. Our response to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is related to how much we love the Holy Spirit. Our response can deepen or create distance in our relationship. If you listen, you might hear the Spirit trying to talk to you about your life. What steps are you willing to take to guard the Holy Spirit’s heart from being hurt?
In “Prepare Your Heart”, Rodney shares that if you want to position yourself to hear God’s voice this year, you need to prepare your heart to receive his direction and be ready to act on his words. Jesus sometimes used parables to teach his disciples the truths of the Kingdom of God. He taught them there are four types of seed and ground that represent the Word of God shared with the hearts of people. When a heart is hard it resists and rejects the word and Spirit. Additionally, when you reject truth you end up living a lie. The distractions of this life can keep you from the rewards of the next life. So, prepare your heart to receive the seed (word) of God. When it takes root the word of God will grow in your heart and it will produce a huge harvest. Just ask. Ask God to breathe into your life through engaging God’s word everyday. Overtime you will see the miraculous begin to happen in your life, and as Isaiah the prophet said, “…it will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”
In “Remain In The Word”, Rodney shares that reading the Bible helps us connect to Jesus. If we remain connected to him, then our lives are more productive and fruitful. Tragically, many Christians can find themselves gradually disconnected from Jesus when they don’t take intentional steps to remain in the Word. In fact, we can’t accomplish anything noteworthy apart from Jesus. When we distance ourselves from Jesus and the Bible that is the inspired word of God, we limit the fruitfulness and productivity of our lives, and become useless to ourselves, others, and to the Kingdom of God. But, we are promised if we remain connected to Jesus and the scriptures we prayer and expect miracles and answered prayers. When you abide in Christ, you pray and ask for things that are in accordance with his will, and his life is flowing through you, so you can ask anything in His name, and it will be done. True disciples remain in the word and deepen their connection to Christ, resulting in abundance of fruit and evidence that glorifies God. For, when you remain in the word and the Word remains in you good things grow in your life overtime.
In “Breathe Deep For Daily Success”, Rodney shares that it is time for you to breathe deep. Dying people have shallow breathing. Want to live? Breathe deep. No more shallow breathing - spiritually. This year is the time you must breathe deep the scriptures, for they are living and powerful. Many people keep the Bible a closed book – coffee table. Your daily success will be determined by your daily application and obedience to God’s word. Reading the Bible will give us clarity, courage, and courage to act in faith. So, be strong and courageous. Obey and study all the instructions in the scriptures, the word of God. “Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do… For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:8-9). Start today – breathe deep.
In “The Logos and Rhema”, Rodney shares that application is key to the word of God being useful to you. There are two primary Greek words that describe scripture which are translated “word” in the New Testament, “Logos” and “Rhema”. Logos refers principally to the total inspired Word of God. Second, to Jesus who is the Living Word. Additionally, it is important to note the voice of the Holy Spirit is speaking at this present moment. A “Rhema” is a verse or portion of Scripture that the Holy Spirit brings to our attention with application to a current situation or need for direction. How can I receive a “Rhema” direction from God for my life concerning a specific situation? Read God’s word (logos) daily. Next, ask God to speak (Rhema) to you through his word. Daily consumption of the scriptures will give you the nourishment that your soul needs. Reading and meditating on the scriptures allows God to breath into your life.
In “The Most Useful Tool”, Rodney shares that we all have areas of our lives that we need God to breath into. God has revealed himself in the scriptures. The apostle Paul says, “All scripture is inspired - “God-breathed” - by God. The Bible is the revealed will, and revelation of God. It is authoritative, true, and trustworthy. The scriptures in fact are the most useful tool you will ever need or use to navigate through life. It teaches us proper doctrine, reproves, corrects, and instructs how to live right. More than just information, the scripture is useful for practical for daily living. The believer will always be equipped for life in any and every situation, for every good work. If you apply God’s word to every area of your life you will see God’s reward in every area of your life. Your regular interaction with the scriptures allows you to hear God’s voice, know his will and instructions for your life.
In “When You Don’t Get What You Want”, Rodney shares that when we don’t get what we want, if we aren’t careful it can steal our Christmas cheer, and everyday joy. Christmas expectations can set us up for disappointment if we didn’t get what we wanted or expected. You may be tempted to stay away from Jesus when he doesn’t give you what you want. It is sometimes difficult to understand why God allows certain things to happen in our life. You may even say, “Lord, if only you had been here …”, but can you say, “but even now”. Do you have the type of faith that has confidence in the Lord, and says; “even now …” Sometimes when we don’t get what we want, God is up to something better than what we had hoped for. Be assured, when you don’t get what you want, God will give you what you need most. In life, when you don’t get what you want, run to Jesus. He will surpass your expectations. When you don’t get what you want, have faith, God still has a big surprise for you to unwrap.
In “The Love of Christmas”, Rodney shares that Jesus Christ is the Love of Christmas. The message of Christmas is one of hope, peace, and joy that allows us to experience the love of God in Christ Jesus. To know God refers to an intimate, experiential knowledge of God, rather than just information about God. And, it is impossible to know God intimately without loving others, for God is love. Jesus is God in the flesh – true love in the flesh on display. Anyone in whom God dwells reflects his character. To claim to know God while failing to love others is to make a false claim. The love of God many of us have experienced was visibly demonstrated in a manger and on a cross. Christ’s mission is the great revelation of God’s love. Christmas is the celebration of God sending his One and Only Son, Jesus to be the acceptable sacrifice for our sins; so that, the world can be saved through Him. The Christ of Christmas offers the gift of experiencing hope, peace, joy and the love of God.
In “The Joy Of Christmas”, Rodney shares that while Christmas is a celebration of Jesus and should be a joyful experience, many experience bouts with depression and sadness during this time of year. A life filled with the hope and peace of Christ will experience joy. The message of Christmas is one of hope, peace, and joy in Christ Jesus. Joy can seep out from our life when religious ritual and routine, and times of difficulty or sorrow dominate our days and thoughts. Happiness is fleeting and based on your present circumstances. However, joy is everlasting and remains in good or bad times, because it is not based on circumstances, it is based on the promises of God. The Christmas story about Jesus is good news of great joy, for all people. You have been invited to experience real everlasting joy. Because of Jesus the Savior, Messiah, and Lord you can have real hope, peace, and joy.
In “The Peace Of Christmas”, Rodney shares that so much of life is turmoil. Scripture talks about us being in a real battle. The world wants peace. The solution is Jesus. Jesus is the peace of Christmas. He is actually declared by the angels of heaven as the Prince of Peace. Jesus reigns with power and humility. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. The titles that Jesus holds are numerous, but maybe none more power and needed at such as time as this as the Prince of Peace.
In “The Hope Of Christmas”, Rodney shares that Thanksgiving and Christmas can be the most wonderful time of the year, or it can be the most miserable time of the year, especially if you have lost hope. But, the scriptures teach us in I Timothy that it is, “…God our Savior and Christ Jesus, who gives us hope. Jesus Christ is the Hope of Christmas. The world grieves with no hope. Yet, the Christian grieves with hope - Jesus. This causes to live with a spirit of expectation. Jesus is the promise of hope. He is the hope of God with us. We are assured of the hope of being with God forever. This motivates us to share the hope of Christ with others, and have an answer and be ready to explain the hope in our hearts because of the promise and immanent return of Jesus. Jesus Christ is the Hope of Christmas.
In “Enriched In Every Way”, Rodney shares that both enthusiasm and generosity are contagious. Our generosity can spur others onto personal acts of generosity. Placing God and others ahead or ourselves is not natural. So, in that sense, giving and extravagant generosity is supernatural. Giving is like sowing seed. The amount of the harvest is determined by the amount of the seed sown. Do you need love, forgiveness, or hope? Be generous with your love, forgiveness, and hope with others. So decide in your heart what you should give and do it cheerfully. The value of your giving depends on what and how much is in your heart. Generosity is based on a heart exchange. The good news is God generously provides for those who give so that they can continue giving. God is rich with you, so, you don’t have to be stingy with others. Ultimately, your generosity will allow others to be able to celebrate “Thanksgiving” to God.
In “Finish What You Started”, Rodney shares that Jesus became poor so you could be really rich. In light of the fact that Jesus has made us really rich, what should be our response? You should finish what you started. Our performance needs to match our desire. Our actions need to reflect our values. Give out of which you have, and don’t be manipulated or coerced beyond your ability. Give with the right heart. God knows the intentions of our hearts related to giving. Do what you can, whenever you can, wherever you can, for who you can, with a joyful heart. When you do, you will become really rich.
In “Rags to Riches”, Rodney shares that Titus, a companion of the Apostle Paul, invited the Corinthians to join him in experiencing what it means to be “Really Rich”. Have you ever let a personal hurt keep you from being generous? You are not alone, but there is a better way. Gratitude will produce generosity. God is rich with you, so, you don’t have to be stingy with others. We should desire to excel in the grace of generosity. This is a gift not exclusively for the rich. Everyone can be generous, no matter what condition one is in. One’s gratitude is not based on present circumstances, or abundance of riches; and neither should one’s generosity. Generosity is the natural result of sincere love. It reveals the disposition your heart. Because of Jesus you are not poor anymore. Jesus became poor so you could be really rich. So, act rich. Be generous on every occasion.
In “Overflowing Rich Generosity”, Rodney shares that when we give and are generous we are acting like Jesus. Generosity is a natural response to gratitude. In the heart of a Christian, times of reflection should produce gratitude that naturally leads to acts of extravagant generosity – “Thanks – Giving”. Affliction, poverty, or pain doesn’t prevent us from being generous. In fact, it becomes the stage from on which our generosity preaches about the goodness of God. Never let the depth and lowliness of your need exceed the height and greatness of your generosity. Some people give out of their abundance, while others give sacrificially out of their need. Once you give yourself over to the Lord, giving to others becomes easy. Your first step towards generosity is giving yourself over to the Lord.
In “Reproducing Productivity”, Rodney shares that, “Productivity is good, but ‘Reproducing Productivity’ is better.” The ability of a leader to reproduce themselves in others is necessary; otherwise, it puts at risk your vision, legacy, and others dreams. It has been said, “We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.” Some people have natural leadership gifts. Sometimes a crisis can draw leadership out of someone. Sometimes a leader puts you under their wing and mentors you. Don’t underestimate your influence on others. You can change the world because of your influence. Who are you intentionally developing a relationship with; so that, you can reproduce yourself in them? If you are going to reach your goals you will need to bring people with you that will help you achieve the dream. God has placed people in your life to help you, and lift you up by, bearing the burden with you, so you are not alone. Reproducing productivity requires intentionally developing a relationship with someone; so that, you can reproduce yourself in them, in order to fulfill the vision God has placed in your heart, leave a legacy for others to follow, and help others reach their own dreams.
In “Give Yourself A Lift – Lighten Your Load”, Rodney shares that if you are going to reach your goals you will need to bring people with you that will help you achieve the dream. You are not designed to carry the work load alone. You won’t accomplish the most important tasks of fulfilling the mission, if you can’t do what is necessary, because you are bogged down with what is important. Activity doesn’t necessarily translate to progress. God-sized dreams are bigger than any one person. The example we see in Moses’ life gives us insight to how we should respond when overwhelmed by the task God has called us to accomplish. God has placed people in your life to help you, and lift you up by, bearing the burden with you, so you are not alone.
In “Who’s In? Who’s Out?”, Rodney shares that your potential as a leader or reaching your personal goals is greatly impacted by those that are closest to you. Who have you allowed into your inner circle? If you are going to reach your goals you will need to bring people with you that will help you achieve the dream. Your inner circle will make you or break you. Make a commitment for team leadership. Shared leadership leads to shared success. Good Leaders don’t have to make every decision on their own, but they need to own the decision once it has been made. Good Leaders own their failures, but share their success. It is time to evaluate your present inner circle. A lack of evaluation doesn’t help your organization, church, the team member, or the leader. In the Bible, 2 Chronicles 10:1-19 shows us king Rehoboam is completely let down by his inner circle. We often underestimate the influence of those in our inner circle. Do you have some goals you want to reach this year? Then make development of your inner circle a top priority. Who’s on your team? Who’s In? Who’s Out?
In “Thanks, Abe”, Rodney shares that some people wonder why many Christians have feelings of connection with Israel. It is more than a political ideology. It is much deeper than that. Our faith flows from this connection with Israel and the Jewish faith. Our story is part of a continuation, and fulfillment of their story. God called one man, to make a family, who would make a nation, and out of which a great people – the church would come to be. Scriptures teaches these are the true children of Abraham. God loves the Jewish people, and his church. He has pronounced a blessing on those who bless and support Israel, the descendants of Abram, who would later be named Abraham, who are the descendants of Shem, son of Noah. Like Abraham, The journey we are on is “now, but not yet”. We have directions but not a complete picture. We walk by faith. God gave Abraham a great promise. From his family the Messiah, Jesus Christ, would be born, and we are recipients of that wonderful blessing. There is a promise of blessing on those who bless and work with God’s plan. We have an opportunity to respond in gratitude to the Lord for inviting us to be a part of the family of God through the blessing on the family of Abraham.
In “Faith Made Complete”, Rodney shares that your faith is made compete when it is accompanied by action. In other words, faith without works is dead. Honest questions about the genuineness of our faith come when there are no observable outward displays of faith. Faith without action leaves us feeling incomplete and leaves others still in need. Faith is not merely internal. Internal faith is actualized externally. Faith on the inside is seen on the outside. To become part of God’s family all you have to do is believe, but every family member has assigned chores to do. God saves you by his grace, but his grace should produce good actions and deeds. Unless your faith is producing good deeds, the grace of God has not taken a hold of you and is without effect. Faith that is never acted on has never seen a miracle. Your actions motivated by your love reveals your faith. We aren’t made right by what we do, but we are “shown to be right with God” by what we do. Your faith in Jesus is made complete when you act on your faith. Because faith without action is dead. Your faith is made complete when you act on what you know is God’s revealed will and word for your life. When your faith is made complete you can move that mountain.
In “Faith Earns You A Good Reputation”, Rodney shares that scriptural faith is placing your trust, hopes, dreams, and confidence in the person, will, and words of Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews states, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” It is the guarantee or “title-deed” for that which we hope for and anticipate with a fixed assurance. By acting on our faith and trust in God we can earn a good reputation and testimony, just like the Old Testament patriarchs of old. By obeying and following the will of God everyday, even in the small things of life, we are building legacy, and our reputation is being cemented. Our acts of everyday business done in faith will leave a legacy that will allow our own stories to be told. One day you may be invited into the Hall of Faith along with the great cloud of witnesses, and what a glorious day that will be. Faith isn’t fake it, ‘till you make it. It is if you believe it, you can receive it. What you do today, in faith, will build your good reputation for others to follow.
In "Say The Word", Rodney shares some confuse faith with the power of “positive thinking” or a “positive confession”. Positive thinking is certainly good for you, and better than the alternative. A positive confession is better than negative words and can build your faith. But, scriptural faith is placing your trust, hopes, dreams, and confidence in the person, will, and words of Jesus Christ. The words of Jesus have authority and power because of who He is. All he has to do is "say the word", and miracles happen. You can move mountains when you speak with authority, and with power vested within you by the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus Christ.
In “Anything Is Possible”, Rodney shares that it is normal to have feelings of doubt and unbelief regarding receiving a miracle. But, know this, doubt and unbelief are enemies to faith. When your circumstances are telling you a miracle is not possible, At that point, you don’t need a “How to” in five steps lecture, a well-crafted sermon, or a weak well-worded impotent prayer. You need a demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. You need a mountain moving miracle. The Lord will work with whatever you bring to him, no matter how small or feeble your faith may be. Because, when Jesus is present, “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Your faith can contribute to the timing and experiencing of the miracle you are asking for. So, have faith. Jesus is able. Jesus is willing. Jesus is here!
In “Got Faith”, Rodney shares that there is a lesson to be learned from the story of the persistent widow and unjust judge, told by Jesus. An important factor to receiving a miracle is to have a spirit that always prays and never gives up. A spirit of perseverance and tenacity in our prayer life is required if we want to experience a breakthrough. God, the righteous judge, who is Lord of all, is just and he will do right by you, and his chosen people. When God finally decides to act on your behalf and perform a miracle his action is swift, deliberate, and intentional. Nothing can stop his word and will from accomplishing what it is sent to do. So, got faith? Get ready to see your miracle. God is looking to strengthen the hearts of his chosen people, who have faith in him. Will the Lord find you with faith? Got faith?
In “Shameless Persistence”, Rodney shares that an important aspect of receiving a miracle is asking God for it. James 4:12, says, “Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” God may be waiting on you to simply ask him. Miracles happen, and mountains move when we pray with faith. Sometimes unexpected emergencies happen in your life, where you needed help immediately. Desperate situations call for desperate measures. How many times have you settled for an unanswered prayer after only praying one time? How many of us have missed a miracle because we are not shamelessly persistent? If you need a miracle, come to God and be shamelessly persistent. In Luke 11:9, Jesus said, “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
In “God Is Willing”, Rodney shares that God is not only able but willing to do the miraculous in your life. Miracles confirm the message and ministry of Jesus, and God’s greatness. When God’s will and our faith in God connect miracles can happen, and mountains move. When God is moved with compassion, mountains move. You may not fully understand how and what God does. We don’t know why sometimes God performs miracles or heals immediately, why sometimes he performs miracles or heals gradually, or why sometimes he performs the miraculous and heals eventually in eternity, but we do know this, God is willing.
In “God Is Able” Rodney shares that your belief and trust that God is able to perform a miracle will determine the amount and degree that miracles happen in your life. Remember your identity in Christ – You are a child of God. The God whom we serve is able to save us. Faith can and will sustain you through problems and pain in this life, but if you only believe in the miracle of sustaining faith then you may miss the experience of deliverance and saving faith. It is time for you to step out of the fire you are currently experiencing. The Lord is calling you to come out of your fiery furnace. God is able. Have faith. Believe for it, and receive it. It is time to move that mountain.
In “Because God Exists” Rodney shares that if you are to please God, having faith is essential. Yet, tragedy, times of difficulty, and evil can make you question your faith in God. Hebrews 11:6 states, “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” There is a difference between “belief that” and “belief in” God. You must “believe that” before you can “believe in”. Believing in one God the creator and sustainer of all things, and that He is involved with his creation is essential if you want to see God perform a miracle and move mountains in your life. The good news is, if you in need a miracle? God exists, and miracles happen.
In “Believe For It” Rodney shares that when you face obstacles that seem insurmountable, if you have faith, you can MOVE THAT MOUNTAIN. After inspecting a barren fig tree, Jesus speaks to it and commands it to wither. Instantly, it began to die. The disciples were amazed at the results and quick response to Jesus’ words. We are often amazed when the descriptions of the work of Jesus and results go beyond our expectations. How can our prayers and words have this kind of effect? “Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.” Faith does not just believe, faith is believing and acting on God’s Word. Are you ready to move that mountain – believe for it.
In “We Hold These Truths”, Rodney shares that the United States of America is great place to live – not a perfect place. Yet, it strives to reach for the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence. Perspective helps you understand and appreciate the USA. Having experiences outside of our country and with others from different cultures allows us to see the beauty of America. It is important to remember God’s word was brought here before the Declaration of Independence or the penning of the U.S. Constitution. God’s word is foundational and eternal. As Americans and Christians we should recommit to these words in Declaration of Independence, ““We hold these truths to be Self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.” Ultimately, there is no way to legislate morality, or people to experience life, liberty, or happiness. If man makes a law, man can take it away. But, the gifts and grace given by God can never be taken away. That is why, “We Hold These Truths.”
In “Reclaiming Your Power”, Rodney shares that, in the Bible, Samson lives a life inconsistent commitment to God. He was a man used at times of God with great displays of physical strength; yet was often found to be morally a weak and spiritually frail. He struggles with sex, money, and power. Our lives much like Samson, is a life of contradictions. What God intended for us to use for good, we will often abuse, misappropriate, and misuse. A lifestyle of continual sin will leave you powerless. But, Samson’s story is one of repentance and redemption. After a season of brokenness, Samson’s heart of commitment and power returned, and you can reclaim your power too. When you humble yourself God will lift you up.
In “Reclaiming Your Authority”, Rodney shares that to reclaim one’s spiritual authority naturally implies at one time you had authority, but you lost authority. The Genesis account in the Bible reveals in the beginning man had been given dominion and authority from God. When mankind disobeyed God and listened to the serpent, Satan, he stole all that was good, in the garden, from mankind. Today, Satan continues to attempt to steal all that is good in your life. It is time to reclaim your authority in Christ. -You don’t have authority on your own. Authority is bestowed upon you from a higher authority - God. Because of the substitutionary sacrifice, death, and resurrection of Jesus, you can reclaim your authority in the name of Jesus Christ. The jurisdiction, reach, and scope of your authority. The Bible contains all the authority, rights, promises, privileges, responsibilities, and power vested in you, by God, through Jesus Christ. It is time for you to reclaim your authority that is contained therein.
In “Reclaiming Your Story”, Rodney shares that we shouldn’t let our past actions, circumstances, or experiences keep us from believing God is at work in our life, and reclaiming the narrative of our story. Reflecting and getting a proper perspective of our life story will help us better cope with our present circumstances and participate in God’s preferred future for our life. God is redeeming and using your personal story, the past and present, to shape your future, for the glory of God. You can be wise, wealthy, strong, handsome, talented, and a Christian, but without a proper perspective of your life story you will sense your life is meaningless - without purpose. We are sometimes discontent with our life is the beauty and glory of our life has not fully bloomed. We cannot see the whole scope of God work, activity, and redemption in our life. Your story is incomplete. God is still writing and the end will be greater than the beginning. Faith in God is the only way to find proper perspective, personal meaning and purpose in this life.
In “Reclaiming Man’s Purpose” Rodney shares that the average man doesn’t know what it means to be a “man” anymore. Males are confused about their purpose, identity, role, and significance. Manhood has become illusive to them. But, every man was made with a purpose in their heart, mind, and hand. Every person needs to know they were created for purpose and to have dominion over the garden God has placed them in. In the beginning of creation, God gave man responsibility and authority. He instructed him to provide and protect. Since the fall and initial sin of mankind, males have struggled with their understanding and ability to reigning and having dominion. Reclaiming one’s God-given manhood to reign and rule begins with first dealing with your personal unresolved sin. Sin produces death, toil, and struggle. Sin will keep you from experiencing God’s perfect purpose in your life. The first step to reclaiming your rightful position in the Kingdom of God is to come out from hiding and allow God to deal with your unresolved sin and brokenness.
In “Empowered With Boldness”, Rodney shares Many in Pentecostal churches mistakenly believe the baptism of the Holy Spirit is only for speaking in tongues. This is in error. Speaking in tongues is associated with Pentecost but the purpose of the infilling of believers is for empowerment to witness. In other words, this empowerment allows the believer to have supernatural boldness in sharing the message of Jesus Christ, and doing the work of the ministry. If we have ever needed the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit it is today. We need a supernatural boldness. There is a difference in the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit which takes place at the moment of salvation, and the infilling empowerment of the Holy Spirit which is a second experience. Jesus promised we would, “receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses”. Every believer should seek a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The same experience that occurred on the Day of Pentecost in the second chapter of Acts, and Spirit-empowered life is available for every believer today. Be filled with the Spirit.
In “Why Should I Care?”, Rodney shares that we live very self-centered lives. We cater to our desires. We live in a culture that promotes selfishness. We live in a way that avoids caring. We do what we can to protect ourselves from hurt and disappointment. But, our lack of care can actually separates us from the best things in life: love, family, relationships, and God. We all have different gifts. Every person is valued by God. Yet we find ourselves regularly comparing ourselves to others. It is a game you can never win. Perceived slights, mistreatment, or unfairness can result in feelings of anger and discouragement. It leads us to ask, “Why should we care?” We must subdue feelings of entitlement and total equity, or potentially develop a lack of empathy and a caring spirit. This means, caring for others begins with you caring about and for yourself. You will never be able to truly love someone until you can love yourself. When you care, you are like and honor your Father in heaven. It is the first step in a journey to restore a broken relationship, with people and God, and leave a life of struggle.
In “A Shared, Same, and Sincere Faith”, Rodney shares that parenting and passing our faith to our children is a everyday task. We can do more than just set aside money for therapy… we can set our children on a course to help them discover their purpose in life and fulfill God’s plan. The Apostle Paul’s ministry companion and close aid Timothy was influenced by the faith of his grandmother and mother. They passed on a shared, same, and sincere faith. Their story lets us know that there is hope of passing on a lasting spiritual legacy of faith to our children. Your Godly influence can overcome a less than ideal family situation. A mother who shares her faith in God, and passes that same faith onto her children, and allows them to grow in their own personal sincere faith has left a legacy for generations.
In “Heart Burn” Rodney shares, that all of us are living with an expiration date. Each day we get closer to our journeys end. Jesus is waiting on us to call out to Him for help, before He pass us by and our time is up. However, in order to call out to Jesus we must first come to see and recognize Jesus, as the resurrected Lord and Savior. This realization causes our hearts to burn within us. It consumes our very being. Along the path of your personal journey, Jesus will find you along life’s journey on whatever path you may be on. If you’re on a path walking away from your faith and God reveals himself to you, quickly return to the place, and people you had a spiritual connection with. When you return to your faith, share your story about how you met Jesus, and don’t be surprised if the Holy Spirit shows up and you experience God’s peace as never before.
In “The Scattered”, Rodney shares that some of us have a tendency to wander from our faith when we have experienced a crisis. Like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, we are blinded to seeing Jesus working in our midst when we are overwhelmed and walking away from faith in God. We only see things from our limited perspective. The Lord’s intention is not for you to remain walking in darkness, confusion, or with feelings of abandonment. In fact, we may not always see what God is doing, but we should trust that God is up to something good. If you are at a place where your hopes have been dashed and dreams squashed, then it’s time for you to open the door of your heart, and see who is standing on the other side of your disappointment, tears, and unanswered prayers. You may have missed the first opportunity to see the answer to your deepest questions, but thankfully ICYMI (In Case You Missed It) you have a second chance. Open the door and open your eyes.
In “ICYMI”. Rodney shares while many who walked in church services last Sunday were transformed by Christ, many others missed Jesus. They came to the celebration but never met the host. So, what are you looking for? Are you a genuine seeker who is looking for Jesus? You may think the story of the resurrection of Jesus, but you owe it to yourself to look at the evidence. The evidence for the resurrection deserves a verdict. What are you waiting and looking for? Seekers run passionately to discover the evidence and examine whether it is reliable. Seekers ask real questions and Jesus has real answers. In Case You Missed It (ICYMI) Jesus is alive. He is risen! But, don’t worry, ICYMI Jesus is the God of second chances.
In “The Good News About Jesus”, Rodney shares Jesus is more than a good teacher, or founder of a faith. Jesus did more than challenge religious systems, heal sick, deliver demoniacs, or raise up religious and cultural outcasts. Jesus did more than endure unimaginable suffering, and die on a cross. Jesus rose again, is alive and well, and preparing to return. Some people don’t fully understand the Easter story or its importance. The Spirit of God comes along side those who genuinely are curious seekers of truth. The story of Philip the evangelist and the Ethiopian eunuch allow us to see how God chases after those who are hungry to be fed spiritually. You can come to understand the truth of the gospel message in the Bible. God isn’t hiding from you; in fact, he is likely sending someone your way to share with you the good news about Jesus.
In “Do This In Remembrance Of Me”, Rodney shares that for Christians around the world this week is a sacred time of remembrance, reflection, receiving, and celebration. The events we remember first occurred in the context and setting of ancient Jewish culture and religious practice during the Feast of Passover. During this time, Jesus instituted a new fellowship feast that disciples of Jesus Christ were to follow. Jesus used the elements of bread and wine to represent and symbolize his body that was beaten, and blood that was shed during his crucifixion. This special ordinance of the church allows Christians to remember every time it is observed the physical death, burial, resurrection, and return of Jesus Christ. So, until Jesus Christ returns we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, and do this in remembrance of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
In “Connecting With Others Like Jesus”, Rodney shares, you are most like the influences and people you associate with the most. Additionally, the people you have the most influence with are the people you associate with the most. The disciples of Jesus were influenced not just by what Jesus taught, but because of their connection to him. The greater your personal connection with Jesus, the greater your ability to connect others personally to Jesus. Often, we want to share facts without acknowledging feelings. We are more concerned with winning an argument than winning a soul. Jesus was a person who connected / related with others. Likewise, we should do the same. The most challenging relationship issue you face could improve if you were to start leading by touching their heart before asking for a hand. As important as eternity is, we should make every effort to make a connection with everyone we meet. It’s time to take responsibility and become the LEADER of the PACK.
In “My Former Worst Enemy”, Rodney shares that rather than us working against ourselves, we need to become our own former worst enemy. As we look at the life of King David we can discover some valuable traits we need to adopt in order to gather around us the types of people that can be world changers, and cultural influencers for the cause of Christ. But, it David’s path to success began with developing himself as the type of leader that was worth following. The starting point is starting with you. Start being the type of person you want to attract to your family, workplace, and church. Do this and you will be well on your way to becoming your former worst enemy.
In “I See It”, Rodney shares how in a wolf pack there are group dynamics at play that benefit the group as a whole, and help in their survival. An “Alpha” pack leader is at the front of the pack when they travel. This gives the pack leader a distinct advantage as they are able to see and sense things earlier, clearer, and to a greater degree. The leaders of a family, community, institution, or even a church should develop their “intuitive leadership” skills in order to lead their pack to reach their vision and avoid pitfalls that can harm the health and stability of their group. Like wolves, when Christians unite together they become an unstoppable force. You are the hope of your family and the Church. The Church is the hope of the World. Christians aren’t supposed to be cultural observers. Christians are called to be world changers, cultural influencers, and community leaders. You developing into the influencer God wants you to be should be a high priority in your life. It’s time to for you to be the “LEADER of the PACK”.
In “Double Down”, Rodney shares that we have faced a difficult year dealing with political campaigns, a global pandemic, social unrest, economic hardships, a rise in depression, suicide, substance abuse, and a long cold winter, it is understandable why many have had their faith tested and some are inclined to give up in despair; I want you to leave so encouraged you are ready to “Double Down” on your commitment to Christ and his Church. The Apostle Paul said, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” So, “continue to preach” because God’s grace is reaching more, and more people. Don’t relent. It is time to “Double Down” on your efforts to advance the Kingdom of God.
In “SOLOMON’S LOVE JAM – The Best Song”, Rodney shares that some are afraid to discuss the book, Song of Solomon, because of its sexual content. Its lyrics are extensive in their detail about the expressions of love between a man and a woman in marriage. Some Christians try to interpret the Song as simply allegorical, but the best and most obvious interpretation of Song of Solomon is it is a simple love song. The Bible is to serve as our guide in every aspect of life including: love, marriage, sexuality. The song teaches that in a godly relationship intimate love is to be both verbal and physical. The Song testifies to the grace of God. The gift of love and sexuality is to be cherished and enjoyed. Read, learn from, and appreciate the Song of Solomon as it is. It is a song of love that affirms the value of the romance and expressions of sexuality between married couples.
In “Shine”, Rodney shares that so many times people enter relationships trying to change the other individual. We feel we can help the other person. Our action show we think the other person is flawed and somehow we can fix them. Sometimes you may be tempted to even treat God this way. But, you don’t make God better, God makes you better. You don’t change God. God changes you. The changes may go unnoticed to you and seem incremental, but others will often notice God’s work and changes in you before you do. When you approach God regularly overtime God’s life begins to shine through you. What occurs in your alone time with God in a spiritually intimate setting, will eventually be recognizable on the outside. Maintaining your shine, the kind that honors God, requires you coming close to God regularly.
In “Get Bold”, Rodney shares that you are as close to God as you want to be. So, if you want your relationship with God to deepen you must “Get Bold.” You need to develop some spiritual moxie. God knows you, and more about you than you can possibly imagine. God has extended a personal invitation to you to come close. God has taken a special interest in you. Don’t go any further until you know God is going with you. He loves when you approach Him and invite Him to be a part of your plans. God only reveals intimate things with those who are willing to boldly come close. So, with all the spiritual moxie you can muster, get bold. Pray big, bold, bodacious, prayers. Bold requests receive bold answers. Could it be that, “you have not, because you ask not”? There are things you can only experience by boldly standing near and coming close to God.
In “Pitch Your Tent” Rodney shares that in order to draw closer and develop a deeper personal relationship with God it will require you getting alone with God. Establishing regular meeting place, time, and purpose to your alone time will help deepen your connection with God. It is important to note, someone else’s personal experience is not a substitute for your own personal “close” experience with God. When meeting with God you experience his presence, power, and peace. Let worship be your response when sensing God is close. Inside your personal “Tent of Meeting” the Lord speaks. What is the Lord speaking to you? In those special intimate moments with God you can receive a passion for God, your personal calling; as well as, strength and courage to face your daily battles. If you want to get close to God, then it’s time to pitch your tent.
In “Be and Do”, Rodney shares that God is calling you to be in relationship with him, but God is also calling you to do something great for him. Our faith is not just about “being” it includes “doing”. Our approach to God must include an understanding to who are approaching. God isn’t simply a friend that can be casually approached, but He is the Creator and Lord of all, who is timeless, spaceless, immaterial, all powerful, all knowing, and personal. In our quest to draw closer to God relationally “BE”, God will often call us from within the flame of his presence and command us to go and “DO”. It would be uncommon for God to call anyone to be in relationship with him and not give them a divine assignment to complete. God has “Come close” in order to “Send You Out”. Are you ready?
In “Here I Am”, Rodney shares drawing near to God will require you responding to God’s call. This includes you having a wilderness experience of sorts. In fact, all of our stories involve a wilderness journey. Some of us driven there by the Spirit of God, Others of us end up there on our own accord. It is in the desert places of our lives that God will speak to us, if we listen. Ask yourself, “What is God doing or using in my life that goes against what I have known to be reliable and true all your life?” Sometimes God uses the most amazing and unusual things to get our attention. Are you curious as to what God is doing? “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” What circumstances is God using in your life to get your attention? God is calling you from the midst of the fire in your heart. Will you say, “Here I Am!”
In, “Come Close”, Rodney shares that if we want to be successful and reach our goals that we have set for ourselves this year it begins by making our top priority drawing closer to God. We have all faced overwhelming obstacles this past year that have tried their best to diminish our faith in God and relationship with Jesus Christ. The truth is, you are as close to God as you want to be. You can be closer to God this year - than last year, or than you’ve ever been. God promises us that if we make an effort to come close to God, God will immediately come close to us. The most important thing you can do to achieve your goals this year make drawing close to God your highest priority.
In “New Vision, New You”, Rodney shares that we record important dates in history. 2020 will go down as a year to remember. You may have started the year with plans and found them derailed with the pandemic, social unrest, financial difficulties, or the political upheaval. Yet, a New Year is an opportunity to reboot a New You. The Apostle Paul gives us timely advice on how to see God’s plans accomplished in our life this next year. It begins by sharpening your focus. This will allow you to forget the past, and look forward with anticipation to what God has prepared for you. In “White As Snow”, Rodney shares that Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. Both Christians and unbelievers enjoy all the festivities and colors of the season. The colors of Christmas, red and white, are everywhere. This Christmas when you see the Christmas colors you can think about something other than just Santa and Christmas bows on presents. Why do Christians make such a big deal about the Christmas holiday? Why did God have to send Jesus to earth? The truth and answers to these questions is God is closer to you than you can imagine. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. Second, you don’t just need a fixer to help you with your biggest problem. You need a Savior. Though our sins are like scarlet, Jesus will make them white as snow.
In “Look Forward With Hope”, Rodney shares Christmas usually makes us look to the past, reminisce, and remember). It is a celebration of a promise kept. In the Old Testament, of the Bible, the words of God and his prophets foretell of a coming Messiah who is the only begotten son of God, and who would be the Savior of the world. But, while looking to the past, just as important is for us to think about the future. Jesus, Immanuel, came the first time as Savior of the world. But, we should remember Jesus is coming again. However, before the second coming of Jesus there will be a global event that will include you and his church. The rapture of the Church will be an event that shakes the earth and brings - much chaos and fear to those left behind, but it is a reason for hope and cause of rejoicing to the Christian. Don’t miss the rapture of the church when Jesus returns for his church. Be looking and ready for the rapture of the church and the second coming of Jesus.
In “In Spirit and In Truth’, Rodney shares an important truth from Jesus’ teachings concerning worship. Jesus came and explained that the old, traditional system of worship was going to be superseded by a new way of connecting with God in worship. God created you body, soul, and spirit. Those who desire to really experience God in worship must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Worshiping God in spirit begins with God transforming your heart through the power of the Holy Spirit, and you experience a new life in Christ, known as being born-again. We also worship in truth because Jesus is truth revealed in the flesh. In an age with deceptive man-made teachings and philosophies Christians must hold onto and worship in spirit and in truth.
In “With My Whole Heart” Rodney shares, our outer physical expressions of worship are a display of an inner experience and reality. Along with worshipping the Lord with our physical body; we are to worship the Lord with our soul, heart, will, mind, and emotions. As we mature in our faith we should develop and insatiable desire to worship the Lord. When we recognize worship is a means to experience fellowship with the living God, our hearts faint and long for being in His presence. How can we not be overwhelmed in worship when we remember God’s mighty works in our lives? We much to be thankful for that will make us cry out, like the psalmist, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” (PS. 103:1-2)
In “A Body for Worship”, Rodney shares that what you believe about worship is influenced by what you have been taught; as much as, what you have not been taught. Worship is more than just an inner experience; it is also an outer physical expression. God created us as physical beings. What we experience on the inside should be expressed on the outside. We are a body of worship, but you are a body for worship. What we do with and to our physical bodies is an act of worship. We use our bodies to play instruments, sing, shout, clap, stand, kneel, bow, and even dance. “Give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.” is the instructions of the apostle Paul. Never forget, God gave you a body for worship.
In, “Worship the Lord”; Rodney shares important truths about worshipping God. Worship is both a corporate and individual activity. It is public but deeply personal. Worship is not only what you do, it’s who you are. It’s not an indiscriminate action; rather it’s an intentional act of love. Neither is it without purpose. In fact, it’s what you were created for. Expressions of love and worship take many different forms, but pure heartfelt worship gets God’s attention and moves the hand of God. When we worship we experience: Fellowship with God, God’s power, God’s protection, and God’s provision. God alone deserves our praise. No one else is worthy of our worship. God’s splendor and majesty is unmatched. God is uncommon and completely otherly. Therefore, as the psalmist declared let’s, “Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Ps 96:9).
In “It’s All About Trust”, Rodney shares that the issue many of us struggle with related to making better choices is summed up in one word – TRUST. It is difficult at times to TRUST. You live in a world that tells you to distrust everything. Your own experience often validates this. You can collect all the evidence and information to make an informed decision but ultimately you will have to place your trust, or take a step of faith towards something, or someone. Solomon, the wisest man to ever lived pinned these words, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take” (Proverbs 3:5-6). TRUST allows me to fully commit and act with abandon. You have to TRUST in something or someone. It makes the most sense and is most logical to TRUST in God. You don’t have to leave your life up to chance. TRUST God and he will help you make better choices, which lead to better outcomes for your life.
In, “Solving Your Next Big Decision”, Rodney shares that each of us, at various times have to make significant choices in our lives. What is the big decision you have to make right now? Is it looming over you? Are you avoiding it? The good news is you can feel confident that there is a solution for helping you make your next big decision. Who you let speak into your life influences the direction you travel. Many people rush into situations that they regret because they never stopped, stood, and waited at the crossroads. Whose opinion are you seeking? Who are you asking for advice? When you follow some basic principles when faced with a big decision you can feel at rest in your soul. Listen to God’s voice. Look for God’s guideposts to guide you. Ask godly counsel for advice and follow it. Don’t live life as if you are leaving it up to chance. Better choices lead to better outcomes. Solving your next big decision is easier than you may think.
In “Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control”, Rodney shares that the goal of a Christian is to, “Be like Jesus.” Parrots mimic what they hear, but aren’t actually speaking. Similarly, some people mimic the character of Christ without really adopting his true nature. To be like, and live like Jesus requires living in the Spirit. Faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are three characteristics of someone living in the Spirit. All the different types of fruit of the spirit are gifts from and find their origin in God. Faithfulness is more than just human confidence, gentleness is more than human humility, and self-control is more than human discipline. Each of the traits of the fruit of the spirit is produced by the life of Christ in each Christian. There is no ordinance or law that can produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Only the Holy Spirit can produce this kind of practical Christian living that honors God.
In “Patience, Kindness, Goodness”, Rodney shares three essential traits every Christian needs in their life. The Holy Spirit is the active agent in producing patience, kindness, goodness, and practical Christian living that honors God. Patience is an ability to be longsuffering under pressure and trials. God provides you with supernatural endurance. God was and is patient with us, so we can be patient with our life’s challenges. Kindness is a Spirit-produced goodness that is useful when it is needed most. It extends mercy and grace to others not deserving or expecting it. Yet, it is doable when we recognize how kind and tolerant God has been to us. Lastly, goodness that originates from God is good whether it is seen to be or not. It is an excelling goodness that never runs out. It flows from our hearts treasury that is refilled daily by the Holy Spirit. God has enough goodness stores up for you that you can feel free to give goodness to others without reservation.
In “Love, Joy, Peace”, Rodney shares the Holy Spirit produces the character and nature of Christ in every believer. Three characteristics that should be present in the life of a Christian is love, joy, and peace. God is love, and has displayed his love to and for us through Jesus Christ. We have experienced his love and can now share love with us because of his love. The joy we receive from the Spirit is an abiding joy not based on circumstances but remains through trials and difficulties. Peace that should be present in the life of a Christian is a result from peace with God that provides the peace of God.
In “Produce Much Fruit”, Rodney shares that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ. This results in the character and nature of Christ being seen in the life of the believer through attitudes and actions. Christians that are devoted to remaining in Christ will produce much fruit in their life that honors God. The only way to have these attitudes and actions come alive in you is to have Christ living inside of you. Over time, the implanted seed of God’s word and character will grow and produce the kind of life and fruit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. Every Spirit-filled believer should anticipate and expect the Fruit of the Spirit to be a natural byproduct of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
In “This Kind” Rodney shares there is a real sense of freedom once you come to Christ. But - your freedom doesn’t mean you are a spiritual freelancer. Coming to Christ means leaving the old and embracing a new life – walking in the Spirit. The tendency is to drift away from walking daily in the Spirit and drift towards legalism or license to sin. We walk in the Spirit because we are indwelled with God’s Spirit. “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Daily, as we seek to be more like Jesus, the indwelling presence of the Spirit of God produces in us the character and nature of Christ known as the fruit of the Spirit.
In, “Earning Your Respect”, Rodney shares that making the greatest impact on those who are looking to you for leadership requires – respect. You need to work towards people respecting you and your work. So when you say, “THIS WAY” people are eager to follow your leadership and direction. Proverbs 29:14 says, “If a king judges the poor fairly, his throne will last forever.” It important to remember, generally people may not remember all your deeds or words but they will remember their feelings about you. You should care what people feel about you. You need to increase your respect level so that you can increase your influence in order to fulfill the mission of Christ, and plans of God in your life.
In “Trust Me”, Rodney shares that while the making of an effective leader demands mastering several different traits. While lasting effective leadership isn’t built on one sole trait, there is one trait every seasoned effective leader possesses – TRUST. Trust provides stability for any relationship or organization. What are you known for? Without trust a leader is bound to struggle with their leadership. If you want to build trust you must develop in three areas: competency, consistency, and character. Work daily at building up your “Trust Account” with others. Eventually, it will have a big payoff. Every day you are building up your reserves of trust or losing trust. A leader who is trustworthy is worth following when he says, “Follow Me – THIS WAY!”
In “A King’s Speech”, Rodney shares that Godly and wise leaders understand their responsibility to lead, but also the importance of having other leaders help them. Godly and wise leaders give good timely advice, but surround themselves with other godly and wise leaders that give good timely advice. The difference between a good leader with good results, and a bad leader with bad results might be who has their ear. In life you will encounter Leadership Foes, people who undermine your efforts to lead, and Leadership Friends, people who elevate you and assist you in reaching your goals. Good leaders surround themselves with good leaders and “Git-R-Done” type people. Within you lies the capacity to be a leader. Use your influence to positively make changes in your organization and the world. It’s time to lead well and influence others to follow you – “THIS WAY”.
In “Charting A Course”, Rodney shares at crisis moments leadership is needed. We are living in uncertain and turbulent times and our families, churches, nation, and world needs Christians to lead boldly. We need Godly leaders who are willing to help chart a course for others to follow. Within every Christian lies the capacity to be a leader. The issue isn’t whether you are a leader or not. The issue is whether you are a good leader or a bad leader. God charts the course of a leader’s life when they yield their hearts to Him. Cultural currents rarely flow towards God. You must understand the importance of your leadership because other people are counting on you. Who is charting your course? Who are you helping navigate the deep waters on life’s sea? Thank God for leaders who aren’t afraid to say, “FOLLOW ME – THIS WAY!”
In “Messengers of Reconciliation”, Rodney shares that as Christ-followers we are to acknowledge the fearful responsibility to sharing our faith with sincerity. All our efforts are to be for the glory of God and the benefit of others. We are driven to share our faith because of the love of Christ. He died for us; so, we in turn now live for the cause of Christ. Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. Having received His free gift of life, we have the responsibility to be a messenger of reconciliation telling everyone who will listen that their sins are no longer counted against them because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Consequently, we have been made right with God. So, come back to God. Hallelujah, our sin debt has been paid in full. We have been reconciled with the Father.
In “Remain Connected”, Rodney shares Jesus has a plan to help you GLOW for Christ and see the kind of results in your life and church that are God-honoring. Jesus used the illustration of a vineyard to explain how important it is to stay connected relationally with him, if we want to see much fruit in your life. As you allow God to prune you and cut away the parts of your life that are unfruitful you are actually able to bear more fruit. But, this only happens as long as we remain connected to Christ; otherwise, you wither away spiritually and never see the kind of results you and God want for you. Remember, your and a churches fruitfulness depends on its’ connectedness to Christ. Apart from him neither you, nor a church can do anything. But, when you and a church remain connected to him get ready to see and experience God do some amazing things in you and through you.
In “Message and Methods”, Rodney shares the gospel of Jesus Christ, our message, is timeless, but methods and mindsets must always be constantly changing to reach the culture. We often develop a faith that is comfortable for us. We regularly create worship opportunities and church services that cater to our own personal needs, and desires. Church becomes about how it makes us feel and what we get from it; rather than, what must we do to fulfill the mission of Christ. So what should we do if what we are doing isn’t working? When what we are doing isn’t working - when our methods of reaching the next generation for Jesus Christ - it is time to adjust what we are doing in order to reach as many as we can with the love of God. Our family, community, and world need us to GLOW brightly.
In “How Beautiful”, Rodney shares that part of the difficulty in sharing the Christian faith is, the world is becoming increasingly hostile to Christians. Second, some Christians fear being labeled an evangelical extremist. But, Christian evangelicals simply believe in the primary doctrines in scripture. The root word for evangelical is defined as “good message” or “good news”. Christian evangelicals who share their faith are in truth only letting their faith glow brightly by sharing the message of the “good news” of Jesus Christ. When someone in the world accepts the truth of the message of Jesus, they see the beauty of Christ and of the messenger who shared the story of Jesus with them. The beauty of that moment results in them experiencing peace, salvation, and the recognition of the greatness of God.
In “GLOW - City On A Hill”, Rodney shares that every Christ follower has a mandate to “GLOW”. We are to shine brightly with the love of God and message of Jesus Christ in a world of darkness. It is the responsibility of every Christian to influence this world by creating opportunities for God to be known and his presence to be experienced in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus described us as being the salt and light of the earth. We are to preserve, and enhance this world we live in, and let our lives “GLOW” with the light of God’s love, so that, our neighbors and anyone who is lost can find their way to the safety God’s presence provides. We are to shine like a city on a hillside that can’t be hidden because its lights can be seen for miles to all the weary travelers in need of shelter. Let your light shine. It's time to ‘GLOW”.
In “Working Together As One”, Rodney shares that the church is equipped and positioned for such an hour like this. The current global Covid-19 pandemic is forcing the Christian church to unite as ONE. The world needs to see a church working together as ONE. Because we belong to Christ we feel encouragement, and comfort from His love. It motivates us to fellowship together in spirit, and develop a heart that is tender and compassionate. In response to these things we are compelled to work together as one for the mission of Christ. Our oneness can change the world one life at a time. Let the prayer of Jesus Christ be seen in our church. He prayed, “May they be one.” Amen, let it be so.
In “One Place, One Mind”, Rodney shares that quarantining our ONEness is impossible; if we don’t allow it. While we value independence and individuality, we often undervalue interdependency and the power of a group. When we gather together in one place, as believers, in close proximity it creates an environment where God shows up in the middle of the group does amazing things. Your spiritual development is closely tied to your proximity and regular gathering with God’s people. The gathering of the Church is designed by God to be the one environment where you will thrive spiritually. In fact, there is anointing and blessings in our ONEness. Value and guard our ONEness with other believers like an expensive family heirloom. You often never realize the value of an item until it goes missing. Commit to gather together regularly as Church. Let’s be ONE!
In “Standing Together As One”, Rodney shares that your present trial may be unique and labeled “unprecedented”, but adversity is not unique to humanity. The Israelites and specifically three Hebrew young men found themselves in the cross hairs of adversity. Adversity wants to consume your attention and devotion. Adversity sounds the alarm to worship it, and pull you from your wholehearted devotion and worship to the one true God. Adversity will tell you there is no God to save you. However, there is strength in numbers. When you gather in unity with others you can declare, “Our God is able to save us. We will never serve you. Our devotion and worship belongs to the Lord.” In the fires of adversity, if you look, you can see “a fourth man in the fire”. Jesus, the Lord, is with you. With Christ you can face adversity together, stand together, and come out together. There is no God who can rescue like our God.
In “One Voice”, Rodney shares a story from Genesis 11 when, “At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words.” Though godless and not god-fearing, people who came together in a spirit of unity were accomplishing a great task and vision. In fact, God stated, “nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!” Imagine if a church, God’s people were to come into agreement concerning the mission of Christ and walk as one. What could the church not accomplish? For a Church or organization to survive and thrive it must have one voice, one message, and one mission. Our collective voices in unity can make a difference in our community. God is visiting us to see if we are speaking in one voice, message, and mission.
In “May They Be One” Rodney shares that the world is in turmoil and divided. The Church should be a place where division dies and unity reigns, lives, and thrives. Jesus’ desire and prayer for us is that believers throughout the church, and across denominational lines may “experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you (God) sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.“ A 21st century world has yet to see the full impact of a 21st century global Church united in the love of God and their fellow man, and the mission of Jesus Christ. Think about what we as a church might be able to accomplish if we were ONE.
In “All’s Well That Ends Well”, Rodney shares that for the Christian, if you could see the end of your life you’d say, “All’s well that ends well.” Psalm 23 shows the grace and unearned favor of God. You can never get away from God’s presence. He chases after you. God’s covenant loyalty will pursue you all the days of your life. You can set up your forever habitation in the Lord’s presence. You can trust God, because you are safe and secure in the Shepherd’s care. I can say of my job, health, family, finances, and faith, “All’s well that ends well” because the Lord is my Shepherd.
In “The Table Is Set”, Rodney shares that most of us love a good party. God enjoys good parties too. In fact, God has prepared a party for you before the presence of your enemies and greatest troubles. God will use the story of his provision and overcoming power in your life to tell the world of his goodness. One of the ways to experience God’s provision firsthand is to recount the blessings of God. If you feel insecure count your blessings and they will remind you of God’s faithfulness. God is working on your behalf. The party God is about to throw for you is awesome. God is the host and you are blessed to be the guest. So, enjoy the party. The table is set for you and the world to witness the goodness of God.
In “Unwanted Detours”, Rodney shares that a significant questions of faith is, “Can I fully trust GOD?” We have a need to feel safe and secure. So, how might things change for us, if we see God as a Shepherd? We need the Lord’s presence in our lives everyday, but during life’s detours we gravitate to him to a greater degree. Life has a way of derailing plans and detours us down paths we would not choose. Detours can cause fear, “imagined” or “real”. God’s people aren’t exempt from unwanted detours. King David admits he’s been through unwanted detours and dark places. When I am experiencing a detour in my life, I want to hear from someone who has walked through the dark place of life’s detours. Dark valleys are a detour, not your final destination. A detour is not a dead-end. You can learn to be comfortable in uncomfortable circumstances. Corrie ten Boom stated, “You can never learn that Christ is all you need, until Christ is all you have.”
In “The Shepherd’s Care”, Rodney shares that all of us worry to some degree but some of us can become imprisoned by the fear of the unknowns of our circumstances. Worry requires wasted energy. Chronic worry and anxiety can take life off our years. Since God meets our needs we can be at rest. Worrying often leads to a lifestyle of chasing after temporary things and fixes that only increases my anxiety. When we are dissatisfied and unfulfilled, like sheep, we become hungry and restless. We are safest and most secure when we stay close, like sheep to the Shepherd. When our lives are too busy and too fast we can’t drink or receive the refreshment we need. How are you coping with your anxiety? Remember you are safe and secure in the Shepherd’s care.
In “The Lord Is My Shepherd”, Rodney shares that one of the most significant questions of faith is, “Can I fully trust GOD?” You may want to have faith, but when you have doubts, it is often when you don’t feel safe or secure. Your feelings of dissatisfaction and unfulfilled expectations will constantly drive you to seek after something more. Most of us constantly seek after what we want most when we should be seeking after what we need most. David describes the Lord as a shepherd. He writes in Psalm 23, “The LORD is my Shepherd; I have all I need.” In Christ, you may not have all you want, but you will have more than all you need. So, when doubts arise, reply, “God is my supply”.
In “A Frank Talk About Substance Abuse”, Rodney shares many people are driving their life at breakneck speed. When our life crashes and comes to an abrupt stop, it can leave us completely broken. Our society clearly has a substance abuser problem from tobacco, to marijuana, heroine, opioids, fentanyl, and alcohol. “In 2017, an estimated 20.7 million people age 12 and older needed treatment for a substance use disorder. All the issues on account of substance abuse are completely preventable. The scripture indicates that we harvest whatever we have planted in our life. As you live to please the Spirit you will harvest everlasting life. The Spirit gives you the power of self-control when you give yourself completely to God. The inner work of the Spirit is revealed outwardly by you surrendering your body, mind, and heart to God as a living sacrifice of worship. Do what is God-pleasing, wise, beneficial, and modest. So, let God transform you into a new person, and overcome the bondage of substance abuse.
In “A Frank Talk About Abortion”, Rodney shares that many pastors avoid speaking on the subject. The topic is difficult, emotional, and serious. Abortion is one of the most divisive subjects in the modern civilized world. The brokenness of our world, nation, community, and church depends on us getting it right on this subject. No matter the cost. Since Roe v Wade in 1973, over 61 million abortions have taken place in the US. Until the time Christ, most of the world historically has not been adverse to abortion. In fact, it was common and acceptable in most societies. But, The Bible and Jesus offer a different way and view on infanticide. So, whether you are Pro-life, Non-life, Pro-choice, or don’t know what to think on the matter, learn what the Bible says concerning abortion in this non-condemning; yet, convicting and direct message with a frank talk about abortion.
In “BROKEN – A Frank Talk About Suicide”, Rodney shares that more people think about it than we may know. There is one suicide death every 40 seconds. We are increasingly aware of the reach of suicide. You may know someone personally who ended their life too short, thought about it yourself or even attempted it in the past. Be encouraged you have a reason to live. Choose life. Your thoughts and feelings are fleeting but your faith is forever. God cares for you and wants you to live with Him and for Him. Speaking plainly, suicide is sin. Suicide hurts others not just the one who wants to kill themselves. Most people don’t want to kill themselves they just want to end the pain they feel. But, suicide is a permanent, irreversible solution to a temporary, momentary circumstance. Suicide is never the answer. There is HOPE. It is found in God, Jesus Christ His son, and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. He helps you in your weaknesses, and causes everything to work together for the good of those who believe in Him. Give all your cares and worries to God, for He cares about you.
In, "An Answer For Anger”, Rodney shares that God’s desire is that we be whole in our body, spirit, and soul. While anger may be a natural response to a perceived threat and it originates from pain or fear experienced in our past, we must learn to manage our anger. When our human nature responds to others with uncontrolled anger it destroys whatever it touches. God’s plan is for your life to be controlled by the Holy Spirit and allow his nature to replace your sinful natural desires. A life committed to living in Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit doesn’t provide room for anger to grow. Anger is a weed in the heart of man that must be uprooted. The work of Christ can mend your hurting heart and repair the areas where your anger comes from, and make it whole again.
In, "The Peace Of God”, Rodney shares that God’s desire is that we be whole in our body, spirit, and soul. Some amount of anxiety or fear is normal but when anxiety becomes uncontrolled it will damage your life, relationships, work, and witness. Some people suffer from uncontrolled anxiety that leads to panic attacks. Simply saying, “Don’t worry, be happy.” isn’t enough to cure someone of their fears. The Apostle Paul shares that there is a process one can go through to lead you to a place of inner peace that is not understandable by human reasoning, but can be experienced by every Christian. God’s peace will guard your heart and mind when you live in Christ Jesus.
In, "Bully Your Fear”, Rodney shares that when we struggle with unhealthy fear we are dealing with a control issue. Truthfully, we control very little in life, but we can control our response to fear. It is necessary because fear will make you behave in ways that are adverse to you being your best self and fulfilling God’s will for your life. Ask yourself, “Who is the bully in your life - you or fear? Do you control your fear or does your fear control you? Fear can be overcome when you realize how close and near God is to you when you are afraid. Without God there are many things to fear in this life, but God’s whisper assures our souls he is with us.
In, "Healing Balm”, Rodney shares that grief and loss can cause agonizing moments that are debilitating and that lead to intense feelings of shock, anger, disbelief, and sadness. The loss we experience through our jobs, health, finances, reputation, miscarriages, or a dream can overwhelm our emotions. You need a balm that can soothe your soul. Your brokenness is not beyond healing. Darkness will give way to light. The grace of Jesus Christ is the balm for the soul you desperately need. It heals wounded hearts, mends tattered hearts, knits the torn pieces of our emotions, alleviates misery, reassembles broken dreams, and washes away every sin. Jesus came to set the oppressed free. He will turn your mourning into dancing, and clothe you with joy.
In, "Stitched Back Together”, Rodney shares the area of dealing with emotional issues is one that can leave pastors, churches, and certainly those struggling with issues of the heart, emotions, and mind frustrated. God wants your heart and emotions mended and for you to experience wholeness. Genuine faith and spiritual experiences do not necessarily eliminate all the inner hurts we are struggling with. But, Jesus was beaten so we could be whole and at peace. He was whipped so we could be healed and mended back together. He understands our weaknesses. God graciously gives us mercy and help when we need it the most. He mends our broken spirits one stitch after another until we are stitched back together, and thoroughly whole.
In, "Back To Work – Whatever”, Rodney shares that we need to begin thinking differently about our work. Christians need a seismic shift in the way we view our occupations. What might happen in your life, and in others if we were intentional about the mission of Christ in the marketplace? The radical message of the cross is more than accepting him as our Savior. It is recognizing, and making him Lord of our lives. God wants every Christian to leverage their position and opportunity in the marketplace for God’s glory. When we submit to Christ our entire life radically changes, including our work. The mundane becomes miraculous. The humdrum becomes holy. The marketplace becomes your ministry. The workplace becomes your place of worship.
In, "Back To Work – A Workplace Reminder”, Rodney shares that all leaders are not created equal. There are some good, some bad, and others are downright awful. The best leaders know how to model how to behave and the type of person to be. So, what is the role of a Christian leader in the marketplace? A Christian leader in the marketplace certainly knows how to be just and fair. It starts with treating your employees as people not possessions. When we remember that as we hold our employees accountable for their work and responsibilities, God is also holding us to account on how we treat those under our leadership. Both the boss and worker are accountable to the same Master. Christians, no matter their role in a workplace environment really work for their Father in heaven.
In, "Back To Work – Marketplace Ministry”, Rodney shares that our most productive hours of the day are often spent on the line, in the office, on the phone, sorting this, stocking that, making copies and making widgets. But, every believer in Christ has been called to be a missionary in a specific mission field. The challenge is to clock-in for Christ everyday in the marketplace. Remarkably, God uses common people in common everyday positions to build his church. Therefore, live carefully because what you do each day speaks louder than what you say. In every situation God has called you to “do good”. Let God leverage your position to move others to Christ. It is good business to “do good” at your business, because ultimately, we do good to show God’s goodness.
In, "Back To Work – Clock-in”, Rodney shares that we can begin to look at our workplace differently. Work doesn’t have to be a drain. God has called you to be a missionary, and to a specific mission field. Whether you are an employer or and employee the Bible has lots to say about work and how we spend the most productive hours of our day. When we work for and serve others knowing we are ultimately working for God it changes our perspective. Your work place can become a divine assignment. The Bible teaches we don't actually create, earn, deserve, or even own money. We are not owners, we are stewards. We manage what God has blessed us with. So, beware when your longing for money is more than your love for God, then money is your God and idol. This issue of who controls your money may be the biggest obstacle to God's plan completely unfolding in your life. It is best to remember, God owns it all, but I am his money manager.
