Why was Jacob stealing the blessing from Esau significant? It's just a blessing, right? David explains in this video what power blessings actually have in empowering people around you.
A "Gold-digger" is someone who enters into or pursues relationships primarily for their own gain, rather than being genuinely affectionate. A Gold-digger Christian is someone who values what God can give them, but does not value an actual relationship with God.
Derek opens up the Bible to Acts 3, and gives an exposition on the text. He puts emphasis on verse 19, where Peter talks about how repentance brings times of refreshing. Relating this to our modern day, Derek tells us the way to receive these times of refreshing, and blesses the church.
The way you speak has an effect on your life and how you believe. The Bible affirms this, there is a Spiritual effect that is produced by what comes out of your mouth. Will you speak of life and blessing, or are you under the curse of your own words? David shares from the word about the Tongue and it's dangers.
This Pentecost, Jonathan tells us about the Gift of tongues. Using the scriptures, we can see that the gift of tongues is extremely useful for the edification of the body of Christ, for the ministry, and for the giving of the Gospel. And so, we should earnestly seek the gifts of the Spirit.
Coming up to Pentecost, Philip looked into the event in the Bible and found some deeply interesting parallels. In this video, he shares those with us, as well as telling us about the meaning and power of the gospel in the miracle.
As Peace Celebrated Mothers Day this year, Krista Alley presented a message on the way God acts motherly towards his children, including weaning them off of things that are only good for them temporarily!
David shows us several stories in the Bible from which a short, but effective prayer is prayed. 3 words, that work to great effect. "Remember me Lord"
Kneeling before the Lord is an important aspect of your prayer life, John leads us through the scriptures to show us where we can find this truth in the Bible.
David Alley presents a hard lesson on Humility. In the Bible, Joseph has a dream that he is exalted above his brothers and father and given a throne. But in order to get there, Joseph is sold into slavery, thrown in prison, and treated like scum. But through the pain of being humbled, God is glorified and his power is revealed: For God opposes the proud, and lifts up the humble.
Christ Forgave us our debts, allowing us to be truly free. But when we hold on to the sins of others, choosing not to forgive them, we spurn the gift of Christ. David shows us how deeply powerful forgiveness really is.
Jesus' death and resurrection was prophesied in the scriptures, David shows us in Isaiah 53 one of many prophecies that relate to Jesus and brings our attention to the sacrifice of our Lord. For he bore our shame and saved us.
Have you ever been in church, and thought "Did the Pastor write this message thinking about me?" David shares that while this is usually not the case, in this scenario, he was thinking about the entire congregation while bringing forth the topic of forgiveness.
Continuing from Last week's message, John shows us how to to pray for Fellowship in the City of Rockhampton, and uses the Bible to show how some things in the Bible are represented by "Types and Antitypes".
In order to get answers to prayer, you must believe. John shows us the Spiritual principles that apply to prayer for individuals also applies to prayer for Cities. Through Faith, Will, Authority, and aligning your will with the Lord, you can receive answers to prayer.
"Rockhampton to be the City of Fellowship, of communion, of brotherly love, and of peace. And for the presence of the Lord Jesus to be all through the city."
The phrase above was given to John when he asked the Lord for a word for Peace TV's local city. In this message, John explains the word "fellowship" and directs us to pray for the fulfilment of this word.
Throughout the Bible, God gives his people instructions that they misinterpret. A key example, God promised Israel a king, but a king that God would choose. This King would be the Messiah: Christ. But the people wanted a king like the nations around them.
David shows us that we should look to Jesus for the answer to our problems, and how focusing on him is the only solution we need.
One of the issues that David has noticed in preaching the Apostolic message, is that the very term "Apostolic" is poorly understood.
And so, David devised a strategy to overcome this problem... Listen along to find out how he did it!
Preceding Peace Church's week of Listening prayer, David tells us about why we should eagerly desire wisdom. Using proverbs given to Solomon by David, he shows us that we must listen to gain wisdom.

How do you "gird up the loins of your mind?" Continuing the thought from David's message, Philip takes us to Proverbs 6:30-31, and relates it to how Satan is a thief. Turning to 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, he applies the proverb to our thoughts.
Opening up to 2 Corinthians 5:9, John calls us to make it our goal to please the Lord. Looking at the example of the Corinthians, (as recorded in an unsigned letter from Rome during the persecution of Domitian) John shows us that we should daily seek the Lord in order to live Righteous lives.

But John shows us, using the Bible, that we are already in the Messianic age! And that Jesus is already ruling and reigning in Heaven!

As humans, we find ourselves in a life of hardship. The Bible describes our struggles, troubles, and sufferings as "The Great Tribulation". But why do we go through trial and hardship? David shows us through the scriptures how going through hardship allows us to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus heals a man who had been paralysed for 38 years at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be healed, and then called him to action. Is there a call to action from Christ that you are ignoring?
During WW2, there was a point in which the planes had to make a decision: Turn back, or complete the mission. In our Christian walk, we also have a decision to make: Live for yourself, or Live for God.
For Mothers Day, Jonathan shows us true stories of love from those who spread the message of the gospels, as well as the impact that true love has on the people around them.
Thomas Doubted. After the death of Christ, there was a week between the other Disciples seeing the resurrected Christ, and Thomas seeing him. Undoubtedly, Thomas would have been distressed. But why did Jesus wait a week to reveal himself to Thomas?

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ saved humanity from the wages of sin and death. But was this the plan that God had in mind from the beginning? Or was the Physical Kingdom of Christ supposed to be established? John shows us through the scripture how the sacrifice of Christ is "No Plan B" .
What was Jesus thinking in the weeks before his death on the Cross? Did he know he was going to die? Did he know about the ordeal ahead of him? David shows us the thoughts of Jesus on his way to the Cross and what we can learn from his character.
What do you value? What are you willing to pay to find Christ? In this message, Jonathan shares from the word, showing us how much value we should put into a minute with him.
The Short answer: To become like Christ.
During Lent, David expresses the temptation of having that which he had given up. But, during this period of mild suffering, he remembered the purpose: Christ was led by the Holy Spirit to be tempted in the wilderness, because the Father desired for him to grow in strength and maturity. By giving up things for Lent, we are growing in strength and maturity, and doing it for Christ.
Although it is separated into multiple sentences in English translations of the Bible, Ephesians 1:3-14 is a single sentence written by Paul in the original letter. John tells us the background, the most important takeaways, and some common interpretation errors that have come from this passage.
After Vision Sunday, David and John talk about Peace Church through the years, showing how Peace really is "A Project for Jesus".

When speaking of Prophecy, Paul said "I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied..." 1 Corinthians 14:5. But how are we meant to use this gift? In this video, David teaches us some guidlines for using the spiritual gift of Prophecy.
This Sunday, David talks about why we should value the Gifts of the Spirit. In the Old Testament, the gifts of the Spirit were rare, and only a handful of old testament characters were said to be "Filled with the Spirit". In Joel 2:28, a prophecy is given about the Holy Spirit: “...[Afterwards], I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh…”. This prophecy was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost, and now the gifts of the Spirit are available to every Christian. We need to see these gifts for how valuable they are, and pursue them.
On Mother's day John shares a few photos from the life of his own mother. Relating to her gift of service, and the coming move of the Holy Spirit, he calls every one of us to seek a supernatural endowment of spiritual giftedness.

Quoting directly from the Psalms, Philip tells us 7 reasons to praise God.
David reads Luke 10:34-40; The story of Mary and Martha. If Jesus was in your house, would you listen to his teaching or serve him lunch? David reveals that both are important. We must serve and worship him, and also listen to him and receive his blessings.
In Paul's 2nd letter to the Corinthians, he talks about a 'Thorn in his flesh' that he pleads with the Lord to take away from him. But in response, the Lord makes this remarkable statement: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”. (2 Corinthians 12:8)
In this Video, Jonathan answers the question: "How is God's power made perfect in weakness?"
The Corinthians didn't seem to be able to have the Lord's supper properly. Paul said their communion service "did more harm than good." They failed to recognise the Body of Christ, which was each other, their fellow believers.
Christians have made great progress all around the world in loving one another, and doing things together, but one of the big hurdles is communion. There are so many different perspectives on how to have the Lord's supper that it is rare for Christians to come together around the Lord's table. It seems there are still many different communions even though there is only on Body of Christ.
Can this seemingly impossible communion happen? Yes it can as David Alley explains.
Paul said that Jesus was the first (or the firstborn) to rise from the dead. But Lazarus and 5 others were raised from the dead before him, so how can that be true? In this resurrection Sunday video, David explains how that is true, and is in fact a far more wonderful truth, than you or I could ever have imagined.

God our father is all merciful. His dealings with man throughout time have all pointed towards Jesus, who would become mercy for us all. The mercy he shows us, is his nature and is offered out of love.

Commencing with the words of St Paul, David Alley clarifies the confusion around the different types of 'Israel' mentioned in the bible and outlines the danger of interpreting Israel as always meaning the country of today.

Being in faith, is largely being fully aware that God has heard your prayer and intends to answer it. David encourages us in this message to see faith not as something that begins in us and striving for something to happen but rather we should be more aware of who God is, and be fully reliant on his life and power to answer our prayers. It's a shift from our works to his Grace.
Salvation is a miracle for us all and in this message David reminds us that it's up to God to change people not us. We need not strive to be witnesses but allow God's power to be a witness through our lives.

Jesus is moved by faith. Faith doesn't come just from what is said but by what is done - the action proves our belief in God.
In seeking more of God, by responding to His promise with action, this is actually our faith. We can be sure, that if we're seeking him for more power, we will receive.
The Holy Spirit isn't meant to be some kind of optional extra for your life but it's the intent of God that you would walk in power all your days.
This message will help add to your hunger in seeking more of Him.
In this message, John Alley discusses 7 dimensions of power by the baptism of the Holy Spirit: gifts of the Spirit, power to live a holy life, power to win souls, power to understand, power to love, & authority (power to receive and power to give). In Hebrews chapter 11, we see a list of Heroes of the Faith, like Abraham, David, Deborah and many more. These men and women fixed their eyes on God and refused to be moved from what they knew God was doing with them.
Some by faith escaped the edge of the sword, as mentioned in verse 34, but others were put to death by the sword, as in verse 37. This shows that the people mentioned in this faith "Hall of Fame" were those who trusted that God's will for their lives was best. So we see Daniel's faith when he wasn't eaten by lions, but also the faith of the early believers who were thrown to the lions and eaten. Both are inspiring to us.
So here in this video, find a modern faith "hall of fame" of heroes who trusted God with their lives in the same way. Some of these like Brother Andrew escaped the clutches of the communist regimes of Eastern Europe, but others like the 21 Coptic Martyrs laid down their lives for Christ and went to their reward.
May this quick 2 minutes video inspire you to be a person of trust in God, so that regardless of His will for your life, whether good, or bad, you will serve Him with a whole heart. Let there be no grumbling but rather praising because God is at work in you for His much bigger purpose, and our lives will be joined in praise with those in this video and together we will bring Him much glory.

After leading prayers in our 2nd online service for Peace this morning, I felt quite exercised in my spirit to publish further thought concerning a prayer strategy that works, that I am personally finding easy to pursue, with authority, in the Holy Spirit.
This is an effective yet simple prayer strategy for dealing with the Coronavirus Pandemic in any region.
On the Eve of Major COVID-19 Restrictions, John Alley talks about Providence and Protection, both for people individually and corporately. This was recorded at the annual Peace Christian Church family camp one day before the Australia Government closed all gatherings at Church buildings.

Epiphany! On Epiphany, Christians all around the world celebrate the bringing of the Gospel to the Gentiles (which is the majority of the world.) Epiphany is celebrated in a variety of different ways - toy babies in cakes being just one example- but it all rejoices at the extension of the kingdom of Christ into the world; a kingdom which is growing year by yeqar through the work of Christians in the world. As Christians, our vision is to see the Gospel preached to all nations, in order that God's desire, since the very beginning, of reconciliation for all people be fulfilled.
Pslam 45:1 My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.

We all have a purpose, God is the one who has placed it in us, and he is the one who looks after it. He is also the person who our purpose should glorify. Our purpose is linked to his calling, to his glory.
We are created at birth with purpose, with 'themes' inside us that bubble out when we recognise it. "Out of its cowness, a cow moos." The creator has planted gifts and abilities inside his creation, which are used to his glory. Invest in the abilities that you are given, and seek to use them to glorify God.
So how do you Identify purpose? Ask yourself: 1. What makes you come alive? 2. What truly fulfils you? 3. Where have you been fruitful? 4. What makes you furious?
The Bible has much to say about gifts, and the book of Corinthians describes spiritual gifts given by God to people, for the benefit of other people.
But in the book of Ephesians it talks of other gifts, and these gifts are people themselves. We are talking about apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers and evangelists. Those in ministry are gifts to the body of Christ.
Taking this one step further, because we the people of peace have been called into this apostolic call, along with John Alley, we also are a gift to the body of Christ.
So given that our lives are to bless others, we should be mindful of how we live, how we love one another, of our support for the apostolic message. Let us resolve to pray, to be involved in every activity our church does, to listen to John Alley and put into practice what he shares, and to love other Christians. In doing these things, we will enhance the gift of our lives that is given to the Body of Christ and bring glory to God.
Can a sin be unforgivable?
Sometimes it seems like there are some sins that we will never be free of. These are the sins that we continue to struggle with year after year. The truth is that even these sins can be forgiven and you can find healing. Secret sins have power because they are locked into place with Shame, which is one of the reasons why Christians are instructed to 'confess your faults one to another, that you might be healed.' Part of the process of overcoming a habitual sin is trusting someone else with it and allowing them to pray with you.
Gift giving is a prominent part of Christmas traditions, and we are all familiar with the Bible story of the Wise Men Giving Gifts to the baby Jesus. But the real gift at Christmas is that of Christ given to us. God gives of himself, and so God is both the giver and the gift.
In light of God's great gift, what will your gift be in return? He deserves nothing less than our all, and yet even that is not sufficient a gift for the King of Kings.
There have always been people who have thought that the idea of god was the invention of the human mind. Today there are voices in the world with this view, but it was an idea in antiquity too. And while people do make gods in their own image, the Lord is no invention of humanity. Listen as David Alley commences with a discussion of several points highlighting why God is far too vast, magnificent, wonderful, and eternal to have been conceived, even in part, by any human. Then continue listening as David takes the message and considers it in light of Christmas and like Mary our need to "treasure up these things" in our hearts.
The Apostolic Company #2
In recent prophecies we have heard a number of different promises given to the church. We have already talked about the Apostolic Company, but the other promises have yet to be unpacked. God has promised grace for the apostolic message to go out to the nations, but also to go out on a regional scale. As an Apostolic company we have a grace to be tenderers and shepherds of our own region.
It is important that we devote ourselves to our home town as well as going out. God is not just interested in the Apostolic message going out to the nations, but is also interested in our home towns. Over the years, through prayer we have seen Rockhampton transform into a town that is more pleasant to be in with a better reputation and fewer spiritual struggles. We don't often refer to our own city as 'beloved' and yet it has become more loved, and we should love and dedicate prayer to the spiritual well-being of the city we live in. When people are of one heart and one mind, God can be at rest in a town. That is what Emmanuel means 'God with Us.' God will not send us out and leave our own home untended.
So be hopeful and hold on to the promises that God has given to us. God dwells with us in our home town. Prayer for your city, and seek to find ways that you can serve the city for the glory of Christ Jesus.
The Old Testament serves as a symbol of the New Testament. The Hebrew Law handed down from God through Moses was designed to remind the Israelites of what God had done for them. We also should take the time to reflect on what God has done for us. Three of the feasts celebrated in the Jewish Calender, known as the Pilgrimage Feasts (Pilgrimage in that they take place in Jerusalem) are mirrors of the new covenant and have a New Testament application.

The Feast of Passover The Jews celebrated this as the day on which they were released from captivity in Egypt. They celebrate the lambs blood that was painted over their doorways, thus saving them from the destruction that overcame the Egyptians. Christians celebrate that Christ's blood saves us from slavery to sin, and keeps us from eternal destruction.

Pentecost The feast of Pentecost was a celebration of the harvest and first fruits. The Jews celebrate God's goodness in giving them provision over the harvest. For us, Pentecost marks the sending of the Holy Spirit to guide and assist believers in their walk with Christ. It marks power being giving to Christians in a never before seen way. It also symbolises that we are the 'First Fruits' of God's kingdom, and the first harvest of new believers (Acts 2)

The Feast of Tabernacles The feast of Tabernacles celebrates God living with the people of Israel in the Ark of the Covenent. The Jews celebrate by building their own Tabernacles to live in for the length of the feast. under the New Covenent, God no longer dwells inside a box, but in the hearts of his people. There is no longer one Tabernacle, but instead, we are 'tabernacles' in which God dwells. And in the same way that the Tabernacles the Jews built were temporary, we remember that our bodies are also temporary, and that when they fail our spirits will live with God forever.
While the first two of these have personal meaning to Christians, the final has a greater corporate meaning. God wants to dwell with us, his people. ALL of his people.
There are 5 things that we have been given that make us an Apostolic company 1. We have been given a commission. Although we are under an Apostle, we share the calling that he has been given; to take an Apostolic message to the nations. We are united under the same purpose as a people. 2. We have been given a unique grace. God does not give a mission without giving the grace needed to accomplish it. We walk in grace for community which allows us to be an example of what an apostolic people should look like. 3. We have been given a war. Jesus has conquered Satan, but there are still spiritual powers that would look to set themselves up in places of power on Earth and in people's hearts. With the calling we have been given, we can expect resistance from these spiritual 'authorities.' Although we may not always know what we are facing, we need to be prepared for it. When we are in an apostolic company, we are dressed for war. 4. We have been given power and authority. Again, God doesn't throw us into battle without giving us any protection weapons. We have been given the authority to dismantle spiritual strongholds that have taken root in hearts, cities, and whole nations. This power is available, but like a sword, it needs to be grasped. We spend time submitting ourselves to God and praying for the power to do what he wants done. Finally 5. We have been given relationships When we walk into battle, we don't go alone. We are bound together as a people in relationship, as a family, that supports each member in prayer and love, that walk together and that grow together in the knowledge and outworking of our calling. This is the Apostolic company, a fellowship of people united in love for each other and for Christ, with grace to fulfil the commission given to them.
In the past, the main covering over the church was a denominational covering. Pastors operated under the authority and grace given to the denomination, and there was a measure of spiritual protection that that church operated under provided by the denomination. However, that is no longer adequate. Apostolic covering is the key. Christ appoints Apostles with grace and authority to give covering and shelter for every other member of the 5 fold ministry. This acts as a shelter under which a community can gather; it gives permission and protection to the pastors, prophets, teachers and evangelists to work out the calling of God.
Under this spiritual covering there may be many layers of covering. There may be an Apostle providing shelter for a citywide church council of individual congregations leaders, who then provide covering for their own church communities, leaders who are upright in the community and committed to meeting and praying with and loving each other. Through spiritual covering, prayer, spiritual warfare and love flows as though through a pipeline connecting each person to the next. Imagine this extrapolated over whole cities under a group of leaders, or over entire nations! Apostolic covering is people operating under grace and in community, rather than working in a hierarchal structure in which they have to 'climb the ladder.'
The years prior to the Reformation have often been portrayed as a downward spiral for Western Culture. ‘The Dark Ages’ they are called, where the Barbarians destroyed countless libraries of the Greeks and Romans. But The so- called ‘Dark Ages’ were a time of evangelism technological development brought about by the Church. The Invention of spectacles, water mills, Hospitals and schools have come directly from educated monks, who not only copied by hand numbers of Scriptures, but also the literature of Greek and Roman Philosophers, preserving books that would not have existed today without them. Wherever Christ has been taken in the world, societies have improved culturally, economically and technologically.
The Dark Ages are only ‘dark’ from the point of view of those who believe that development can only come from literature. The kingdom of God has been spreading since the resurrection of Christ, and as it keeps growing, it changes hearts, lives, and entire cultures.
Who is your King?
The Bible says that the Earth is the Lords and everything in it. Although Man affects the World, he does not control it. It is our job to take responsibility for our actions. Ultimately, God is the one that holds everything in place, and keeps it moving. He is in control, and has a plan. Isn’t that amazing? Or have you ceased to pay attention?
Colossians 1:16-17
“...All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
Not only did God create the world, but he is also redeeming it and holding it together. In the same way not only has God created you, but he has also redeemed you.
Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give a hope and a future.”
If God is holding the entire universe together, do you think that he can be trusted with your future? Is your path Gods path, or are you walking the ‘wide road that leads to destruction.’ Are you willing to let God have his way in your life? When you fix your thoughts on God, he fixes your thoughts. Sometimes the plan is submitting to God and letting him lead you where he wants you to go.
Jesus is Interesting! Jesus was unique in the world that he came into, and continues to be unique today. If Jesus seems hum drum to you, consider this. Jesus: - Has more primary sources detailing his life and death than Alexander the Great. - Has so many non biblical accounts of his life written, despite being a commoner, that his historical record would remain the same even if every Bible in the world was destroyed. - Was humble in a world that valued pride - Served everybody even though he was a king - Included and valued women in his ministry, to the point of appearing to a woman first when he was resurrected - Touched the untouchable - Chose to die the worst death imaginable - Predicted his death AND resurrection And most importantly Jesus is God. This is not a hum drum Jesus. This is the Jesus that we fall in love with when we first become Christians. But Jesus is the same now as he was then, and anyone who has seen Jesus has seen God Jesus calls you to follow him the way the disciples did, to lay down your life and serve him. Look into the eyes of Jesus every day, and ask him to give you his love for others.
Are you following Jesus like the disciples, or like the crowd that so quickly turned from loving to hating Jesus? How can you share Jesus to others this week?
Have you ever heard someone say "If God was a God of love He would....."?
In this message David Alley takes one of the sometimes misunderstood Bible passages about Sodom and Gomorrah and considers how God could be loving, while at the same time bring judgement on those two cities.
Sometimes we question that God is good when bad things happen. We see them happening and experience them ourselves and wonder what part of his plan something like this falls into. However, just because things are not happening the way that you imagined they would does not make God a bad God, it just means that all of his plans have not yet been revealed to you.
Consider, if you are a parent. You make your kids do all sorts of things that they might find unpleasant at the time. You make them wash up to teach them cleanliness, you make them do yard work to teach them good work ethic, and you don't give them lollies at 6am- even if they are convinced that lollies are exactly what they need at that moment. And even though they might grumble and complain about this you keep doing it, as well as clothing them and showing them care, because you love them and want the very best for them. Likewise, God's view is infinitely bigger than ours, and despite our grumbling and complaining, he still provides for us and protects us.
Do not allow lack of perspective to make you bitter when things don't go according to plan. Instead, trust that God is who he says that he is and that he is able to make good come out of any situation and that for every problem you might face, he has a solution.
We know that faith is key when praying for healing; Faith is key when praying for many things as a matter of fact. But how often do we actually believe when we pray for healing? Do you find yourself thinking "this isn't that important" or "I don't really need it that much. How can we believe when we are sabotaging our own faith? The good news is that our faith is built through our covenent relationship. God is willing to give you a hand in helping you trust him. As we become more mature spiritually, so are we able to obtain greater grace for healing, as well as for other things. As we pursue the father, as we learn more about his heart and our desires become more aligned with him, our prayers can be aligned with his will, and our faith is allowed to grow.
As you grow in your relationship, God is also able to show you specifically how to get breakthrough in healing. Sometimes what is hindering healing is in your own heart, and sometimes it is something affecting the Church that needs to be dealt with. When we take the time to listen and hear the father's voice he is able to show us, and help us to overcome these obstacles. His grace is available both for the hinderance and the healing. Knowing him helps us to trust him, and allows us to gain healing through him.
Why is it so much easier to get healing for people you are witnessing to than it is to get healing for yourself? Wherever the Gospel is preached, signs and miracles follow- healing being one example. Healing and witnessing go hand in hand. So why is it harder to get a believer healed? The relationship that we have with Christ is a covenent relationship, which means that it is two way. In this covenent, it is he, not us, who set the terms. If we are not waking in relationship with Christ, we cut ourselves off from the provision and blessing that he has for us. Our relationship with Jesus allows us to access grace for healing. As we grow in our Relationship with Christ, how in faith for healing? Here are some tips
- Have Faith in what God has said. Know your Bible and the Promises of God, stand on them in your Prayers.
- Believe that God's promises are true, and if you struggle to trust him, ask him to help you.
- Prayer unitedly with other Christians. There is great power when many Christian raise their voices as one in prayer.
"You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14
In it's original Greek, the 'you' in this verse is plural, not singular. While you, as a Christian are a light, it is the church as a whole that is the 'city on the hill.' As a church- made of people and not of physical stones- we shine the light of Christ to the world. His light is revealed through the way that we love each other. it is through the relationships that we build within the church, and the turning of our hearts towards each other in complete oneness and unity, that the world will see and believe in Jesus. Christianity is a relationship, not an institution, and when that is shown in the unity of the body of christ, the 'city' cannot be hidden. Do you desire the unity of the Body of Christ? If not, have you asked God to show you how to love those you are called to love?

"I Pray… that they would be one, father, Just as you and I are one, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me." John 17:21-22
Jesus' prayer that we would ‘be one’ in the same way that he and the father are one seems like an almost impossible achievement, such a depth of love in a relationship, such a sense of belonging to each other and being totally one with each other is impossible for us to achieve - on our own that is. It takes God to change the heart of a person towards another, but it also requires a willing heart and a pursuit of the grace to love another person. We mirror the relationship between God the Father and the Son through our attitudes towards our leaders and those we are called to pursue as Spiritual Fathers, and when you allow God to bring you to a place of deep belonging, he can pour out blessing.
As Christians, we are called to relationship - to be at one with each other and with our leaders, to go beyond the normal acquaintences that most people gain. We are called to give our hearts to each other, and to be the example of Christ’s own relationship with his father in this world. To come to a place of loving each other completely, regardless and because of their flaws, and to reach that place of deep belonging, and oneness that can only be achieved through the pursuit of grace.
Are you one with those you are called to love? Has God changed your heart? Is he allowed to?
In the first message on souls, we talked about seeking power from God to be witnesses. Here you sought God on behalf of yourself.
In the second message, we talked about laboring in prayer for each person until they are saved. Here you seek God on behalf of others.
Now finally we come to the point where the communication is between you, and the person needing Christ. So what do you say, and what do you do when it is between you and them?
In this third message on souls, we see there is no formula except to be a real Christian. We don't present one version of ourselves at church, and another elsewhere, rather Christ lives in us all of the time. We are the light of the world as Christ told us in his sermon on the Mount in Matt 5.
So we share the gospel, which is the story of Jesus, with others. We include Jesus in our conversations, and we seek to love and serve others because the love of Christ compels us to do so. Christ is the attraction to God, so it is Christ we must explain. What is it that is so special about Jesus, let us talk about him.

Many Christians struggle with the idea of being able to bring someone else to Jesus. It seems so hard, and the reality is that many have unbelief in their hearts about this whole area. Yet it is God who helps bring someone to salvation, and we cannot put life into someone, simply do the basic things Jesus asks of us.
In the same way that each person is born through a process of labor, each spiritual birth often comes with labor too. This is the labor of prayer. Paul said in Galatians 4:18-19 that he was "again in labor, until Christ was formed in you." It was through Paul's prayer effort that Christ was able to take hold of the people Paul was praying for. So it must be with us, we must labor in prayer for those around us who don't know the Lord.
Some labor experiences are shorter and less painful, but often labor can be long and more painful. Perseverance is required. So through perseverance, we can obtain an outcome in prayer where the Lord is able to take a hold of someone else's life and bring them to Him. Who are you laboring in prayer for? Begin a daily prayer for their soul, and don't stop until they come to know the Saviour.
If you knew someone in your close circle of friends afflicted with a terrible life threatening disease, would you care? Of course you would. And if you had the cure, would you make it available to them. Of course you would.
So it is with sin, which is life threatening and fatal for all eternity. We also have the cure, which is Christ and his work on Calvary. And we have the Spirit given to us to help us be his witnesses.
A person's final words seem to carry a great deal of impetus. Jesus' final words before his ascension were to make disciples of all nations. (Matt 28:18-20) However he also told them (Acts 1:1-9) to wait before starting that job, and receive the Holy Spirit first, who was going to help them.
Seek the Spirit so that you might have power from Heaven to save the lost. Ask for God's help in bringing others to Him. They need him and God will help us bring them through if we ask.
David Hood shares some thoughts that came from the week of listening prayer pertaining to being still before God and what that means in application.
On Palm Sunday Jesus rode into town on a donkey, portaying both his kingship, and also his humility. How do we his disciples be humble like Christ, when we are often so proud, and also frequently unaware of it? In this message David Alley uses the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy to give a definition of humility that is more achievable for us, and also something that we see in the life of Christ.
John Alley begins by talking about how personal God is, and how to address him in prayer, not just with a "Dear God" but in a warmer and more personal manner. He then moves on to consider how Jesus himself addressed God in prayer, and how he referred to God in conversation, and teaching. God is overwhelmingly referred to by Christ as Father. John then talks about God as the Holy Father, something very personal and insightful into who God is.
Last week John preached about the desire of God to raise a people who will do his work. This calling is on Peace, and on others around the world too.
In Feb 1994, while John Alley was wrestling with his call to apostolic mission in the nations, plus his ministry in the home church, he said to the Lord. “This looks like two different jobs to me. Which one do you want me to do?”
The Lord replied, “It’s not two jobs! The Vision is one vision! The church IS the mission.”
Later that same year, 1994, when praying one Saturday night around the new building, John Alley received a prophetic vision with a strong message:
"I saw that we would as a people come into great unity of the Spirit, and that our teams, when they went out, would have tremendous power - but the power would come from the unity at home."
This sermon contains these stories and more information about how God's desire is to use a people in unity, with one heart, for his purposes.
If there was a daily limit to how much prayer you could pray, would it change how you see prayer? As it is, prayer is limitless and has infinite capacity to change our lives and the world around us, but it under utilised by most christians. Additionally, Jesus called us to do "greater things" than he did, and through combined united prayer, christians through the centuries have done many such greater things. For example, the conversion of Ireland, the miraculous evacuation of Dunkirk, the falling of the Berlin Wall, the transformation of Uganda, and the amazing changes in history because of the prayers of the Moravians. We too are called together to use prayer, as a capacity for change in our cities and our nation to do greater things, which bring glory to God.
When someone is picked for a task, they can feel special for having been "the chosen one." Israel felt special for being God's "chosen people" but in the end the hogged God's blessings to themselves and didn't fulfil the purpose for which they were chosen. At 'Peace" as a church, we also have a purpose for which we have been chosen. What is the purpose of Peace? It is time to be reminded about why we are here, and what we are called to do together.
Australia as a nation is struggling with problems, environmental, social, political and more. In this message John Alley points out that these have a spiritual cause. The problems are symptoms of another bigger problem, which is the turning away of people from God. Listen as John discusses the importance of our prayers, and the type of prayer we are called into.
Being a soul winner is easier than you think. God is involved in every part of the process, and it has much less to do with you, than you have thought. Listen as David Alley outlines three points to help your prayers for souls, three more points to help your witness and a few other points thrown in for good measure.
Although Paul didn't receive support from the Corinthians, and wouldn't take a gift from the Thessalonians, he did receive regular support from the Philippian church. There was a deep and intimate connection between Paul and the Philippians, something which connected their hearts in an unique way. It seems that this is something God does when he calls an Apostle, he also calls people to be of one heart with the minister, and serve and love. Effectively what the apostle does becomes a ministry they both partner in and share in together.
This week David Alley preached on What the Gospel is, its historical context and how we should minister it to the unsaved.
When the Lord speaks we need to take notice. So the word that came to us New Years eve needs to be seriously considered. Opportunity may come in many forms, but we are likely to miss it if it is not what we are expecting. This message considers the things the Lord said and looks at how we can diligently take hold of them. It concludes with a challenge to pray and believe for us to see results through intentionally looking for opportunities to witness and give glory to God. (Join the challenge)

John Alley speaks about the lack of honour in society towards leaders. It is not only the lack of honour towards God which is missing, but towards people in positions of authority, even parents.
Most Christians believe that they live their lives in accordance with the scriptures, but were they to stop and actually consider this, many might be shocked to find they lack a proper respect of what God says. When the exiles returned from Babylon they trembled at the Words of God, and such deep respect for the Bible is missing in the lives of many people.
Following on from last week, John considers the first place of the word of God in church doctrine, and the authority is has over the life of churches, denominations and believers.
In this message John Alley brought up a box with a mystery item inside. He began to describe the item in various ways asking listeners to guess what was contained within. Those descriptions were so varied it seemed almost impossible that one item could be described in such contrasting ways. This message is about the word of God as both the Bible, and Jesus.
God is an omniscient God, that is he knows all things, even things to come. This is because God is timeless, he is eternal, outside of time, but also in every moment of time, even our futures. His love for us is certain in that He is behind us, and before us, having gone ahead of us to make a way. Our duty is to keep our hearts soft before him. We still have a response to make to Him.
John speaks a direct word about the righteousness of God. Its not popular, or even considered relevant by segments of society to think we need righteousness. Yet scripture says, without righteousness, nobody will see God.
Listen as John Alley discusses the completed work of Christ and its implications for us.
Nobody is exempt from temptation, even Christ was tempted. The apostle James tells us that even though the devil tempts us, there is something inside each of us he uses to entice us to sin. Paul said that we do what we don't want to do, and we don't do what we do want. We need to overcome, but it seems the harder we try, the harder it is to actually overcome. In this message, David Alley shares another way to think about temptation that will help you to overcome. Additionally, he gives four points that have worked for him, in his own experience, and will help you or people in your church also.
John Alley discusses the dangers of digital cocaine, the terrible influence of electronics on our lives, and the care we must take with them.
In this message John explains how, whilst the Lord has strong heart desires and powerful plans for the things He passionately desires to do everywhere, (including things He desires to do for us, our region and our nation) the only things that do come about are those that we also have a heart desire and passion for. And that heart desire and passion for Him to work must be expressed through prayer.
John encourages that there is a great need for us all to stir our hearts to express, with real passion in consistent prayer, our desire for the Lord to do those great things that we envision for life all around us. There are great outcomes to be obtained.
Bob teaches us the importance of being thankful to God all the time, even through trials and tribulations.
Perseverance is an old fashioned word, and yet still appears in the most recent translations of the Bible. It's not fashionable to tell people they need to "make an effort" as part of being a Christian, and yet in this message John Alley showed how every command has a promise, and how very frequently, promises also come with proviso, or attached condition. So making an effort, is actually still a part of being a faithful follower of the Lord. He wants us to persevere, to seek after Him and to find Him. Everything we receive if by grace, yet in hand with this, the scriptures call for the "perseverance of the saints."
Last Sundays message considered what the scripture advises us with regard to our words, and to understand that all words have power either for good or bad. We all have the power to bless or curse by what we say. When God spoke, things happened, and when we align our words in agreement with His, things happen. As Christians we are able to influence and change physical and spiritual atmosphere by what we say. We need to be more aware of this and chose our words wisely.
"True Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less" - C. S. Lewis
Traditionally Humility is viewed in a negative way, often associated with humiliation, or to be put low. Philip Alley puts forward a more positive definition of humility to be embraced. John Dickson says “Humility is the noble choice to forgo your status, deploy your resources or use your influence for the good of others before yourself.” True Humility assumes the dignity or strength of the one possessing the virtue.
In the book of Ephesians, the apostle Paul recorded the prayers he was praying for the Ephesian church. In examining these prayers, we find keys that we ourselves should also pray. However in this sermon by John Alley, he explains that these are prayers are meant to be prayed for an entire community of believers, and intended to bring them together into deeper things of the Lord. Take up those prayers of Paul, and add your weight of faith to what God wants to do among us as a people.
John Alley takes us on a tour of several key scriptures highlighting how our knowing of the Lord is they key to all the resources of Heaven. Peter tells us that we have been given everything we need for life and godliness, through our "knowledge of him." It is this personal getting to know Christ that paves the way for spiritual progress, and every good thing.
God told the children of Israel that they were to be a holy nation, and a kingdom of priests. (Exodus 19) He didn't pick the Israelites out only for special treatment at the expense of everyone else in the world, rather He picked them out also for special service on behalf of everyone else in the world. The nation of priests was supposed to be a people who were to serve others and represent God to them.
Sadly they did not obey God or follow Him as He asked them to, but the New Testament shows us that now the Church, God's people, are called to be that same holy nation. The apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are that holy people, and we are all priests to serve God.
In the same way that everyone has the opportunity to marry, start a family and raise children, we are all called to belong, to serve and to give to God, and from God to others. We represent him. It is both a special privilege and a special responsibility.
Additionally, we have been given the Holy Spirit to help us. When you take time to receive of the Spirit in prayer, you may not feel any difference (just like a car with a broken fuel gauge), yet He has promised to give to you. So take confidence, receive of the Spirit, and serve knowing God is going to work through you. Adventure awaits!!

Last weekend was the 2018 Annual Australian Apostolic Summit, and event running annually since 1997. It was a good weekend with delegates from a number of nations and all states of Australia. This week we listen to six people present at the Summit who discuss things they learned during those sessions.
Continuing on discussing from two weeks ago about the sovereignty of God, and the freedom of people, John now discusses the very personal nature of God. God isn't lying or misleading us in the many scriptures that reveal himself to us as a God with emotions, feelings, and even sadness and anger over things that have happened. He is not immune to what happens, and clearly what humans do does distress and bother God. In considering how God is sovereign, we must consider how he is also personal.
Pentecost comes from the Hebrew meaning fifty, and that number of days after Jesus resurrection, the Holy Spirit fell on the believers. In this message John Alley discusses the pentecostal experience that should be ours as believers. This is not to be confused by cultural or denominational things we are pentecostal, but that which happened to those early believers. We should be people of word and spirit and well grounded in what the Bible says, coupled with the indwelling of God's spirit and all that comes of it.
This Mother's Day Dave Smethurst shared about Mary the Mother of Jesus, and her role in caring for him as a child, and then her experience in having to watch him die. Mary then saw her son raised from the dead, and then lived and ministered in Ephesus with the apostle John who had care for her. Dave Smethurst then went on to share some of his experiences in caring for many orphans in Easter Europe and his evangelistic work with athletes. This is an encouraging message to mothers, but also to all people who love Christ.
John Alley continues on from where he left off two weeks ago discussing the sovereignty of God. How fallen is man really? How much saving do we need? Who does this saving and how much of it is God's work, and how much of it requires our response? These are all great questions to consider, and the Bible has answers.
How do you know God is speaking to you? Why does Jesus say speak to the mountain in Matthew, but speak to the mulberry tree in Luke? Why does Jesus say that the love of most will grow cold? How can the gospel be victorious when the path to life is narrow, and only a few find it? These questions were covered at our first Q&A session at Peace Christian Church.
For the first time in 40 years of public ministry, John Alley discusses the topic of God's Sovereignty and balances both what scripture says about Predestination and God's will on the one hand, against the free choice of people that God has given them. Both are scriptural and true and how are we to understand them?
Certain things trigger our memories. Even the title of this message has most likely triggered us to remember ANZAC Day. This sermon is not about that, but about remembering what God has told us. David Hood takes us on a journey showing things Christ said to his disciples which they forgot, but strangely the Pharisees remembered but did not believe. After all of this we are asked to consider, what has Christ said to us, that we have forgotten and not put into practice?
When the apostle John observed the empty tomb of Christ, he recognized something of Christ and believed. He believed without seeing Christ but believed on evidence. We too have the work of Christ in our lives, and like John can see and believe based on his handiwork. Have you learned to recognise the MO of the Lord in the dealings of your life?
On Palm Sunday, David Alley turns to consider two types of people present during the momentous welcome that Jesus received as King into the city of Jerusalem. Both of these types of people believed in God, and thought they were doing God's will, and yet a key difference separates them. Which type of person are you?
We have the world all around us, we are born into it, and we are called to minister and serve those in the world. Yet the world and its loves are also a temptation to us. Continuing on the theme of what the world is, and why we should not love worldly things, Jonathan Maxwell takes us on another angle in considering what surrounds us, and our attitude to these things. The answer is not to flee the world by isolating ourselves, and also not to surrender to its temptations, but to find grace from Christ in walking between these two places.

The present age that Demas loved is different to the present age that we are living in, and what tempted Demas away from God's will may not be the same thing that tempts people today. The question is then, what is the thing that tempts you away from the love of God? That thing is the the "world" to you. In this message David Hood continues delving into what it means to not love this world, by showing that the world may not be the same for each person, and encourages you to consider what is the world to you and surrender that love to God.
The theme from the last 2 Sundays continues in exploring what the world is, that the Bible describes and that we should not love. Philip discusses what it is we should love and how when that fills the heart of the Christian, it takes away the love of the world and does not leave room for it.
Guest speaker from Kenya, Dr David Juma addresses what the world is that scripture says we are not to love. Taking a tour of many scriptures of both Old and New Testaments, David demonstrates how there is not room in the heart to love Christ and to also fill the heart with other loves. This message with a Kenyan flavour comes from the heart of God, and will exhort you to pursue the love of Christ in all you do.
The Bible has listed the names of many heroes and villains, written down for eternity and thought about my millions of people. Among the villains like Judas, Korah, Ballam and more is Demas, who has become infamous for what many of us have also done. His sin is common and it could as easily have been you or I listed as having "loved this world." Listen to this message as we contemplate what loving the world means and how it is detrimental to being a believer and follower of Christ.
On Vision Sunday, as part of Peace Christian Communities celebrating of Epiphany, we remember the call to apostolic mission in February of 1997. God sovereignly stepped into the life of Peace as a congregation and called us to do something unique and new for us, and to do it "as a people." When Peter, James and John were on the mountain with Jesus as he was transfigured, they were terrified. They had a terrifying experience of the fear of the Lord. In this message John Alley discusses if this is good and if so what part this might play in our lives. After covering this point, he shows briefly the hugeness of promise for those who fear the Lord and the comprehensiveness of what the Bible has to say about that.
Each of us identify as citizens of Australia, India, China, or other nations. Yet the Bible says out true citizenship is in heaven. Today, guest speaker Alex Crossley talks about this citizenship, and the difference between the citizens of heaven, and those who are not. People who merely belong to this world, have its desires and perspective at heart, and they work in ways contrary to the gospel. These people are often found inside the walls of a congregation, and the "us" and "them" are found within the boundaries of christian congregations. Are you a true citizen of heaven, serving God with a heart to please Him? Or are you someone who attends church, but whose citizenship is not really in heaven? Continuing from last weeks message about the door of opportunity, John keeps discussing "doors" in the Bible. God has given different tasks to His people, and to some is give the task to "stand at the door and watch." Listen as John unpacks this and related ideas.
Today's message comes in two parts. John Alley starts out by sharing from God's promise that "he will not let your foot slip." He talks of God's protection and watch over those who are His. But for those who are not His, another verse is also promised, "their foot shall surely slip." This message is an encouragement to those in Christ especially going into a new year with new opportunities. The second part by David Alley discusses how we can glorify God with out lives. When we think of people like Mother Theresa it causes us to see how good God is, and in that same way she has glorified God with her life. How do our lives bring glory to God?
Christ gave this promise to the Laodiceans, "whosoever overcomes I will give him the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on His throne." John Alley takes up the theme of overcoming, and contemplates this scripture with its quite profound implications. Who will overcome? Will it be you?
Christ came to earth 2000 years fulfilling the plan of God since before the fall of man. God knew in advance what was required and came in the form of a man, Jesus. Advent is more than just this however, and we also look towards the coming of Christ into our own lives, and we welcome Him. When will Christ come to you? Will you welcome Him?
The way we view the world is termed our worldview. It is important that we have a biblical worldview as that equips and helps every area of our lives. For children growing up with believing parents, they spend most of their time in church, school and home. It's our endeavour to give children a godly worldview at church, and also in the school that our church runs, but its imperative that parents provide the same godly worldview in their home. This provides the best preparation for young people facing the many conflicting messages the world offers today.
Does Jesus have a facebook account? Yes He does, and it is your account. Your posts and portrayal of yourself on social media is a portrayal of Christ to the unsaved ones who know you. In this message we explore thoughts Christians should have towards the use of social media, and discuss how to represent Him in a way that glorifies God. In the second half of the message David moves on to discuss some active ways of sharing your faith online.
Our hobbies and the things we enjoy doing can consume us, even to the point of linking our identity to those things. Jonathan illustrates this point clearly with anecdotes from his own experience, but all of us can readily relate to the truth of this. It is up to us, says Jonathan, where we point our minds – and our actions will follow. Jonathan goes on to point our from Scripture that when we focus our thoughts and our attention of Jesus, we are transformed into His image. Just as a caterpillar has no idea of what it will become once transformed, so we also cannot imagine the magnitude of this transformation. And when we focus on the love of God, this in turn causes us begin to love others. We should not strive to do God’s will, but rather focus on Jesus and contemplate Him and then we are transformed. Instead of praying “Lord, show me your will”, says Jonathan, we might just as well pray “Lord, show me your glory”.
John Alley begins his message with a question – “How is my life meant to be fruitful for God?” John goes on to give some examples of matters that need to be given our attention in order to live such a life. First, we need to come to grips with God’s authority and yield completely to him. In baptism, we show outwardly that we are submitting totally to God. Forgiveness and love of enemies is another vitally important matter to which we must give our attention if we are to serve God, as is the renewing of our minds and devotion to prayer. Watchfulness and thankfulness should be marks of our lives, and a life of service to the Lord and to others is, in fact, worship, says John. John concludes with a Scripture from the book of Philippians which exhorts us to continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling…….so that we may become blameless and pure.
It is very important that the imparted word of God bring us to maturity, says John Alley. When the word of God gets deep into us and becomes part of our being, we become strong. Christians and churches are not meant to be weak, says John. We need to practice the discipline of sitting in the presence of God and of honouring God in public worship. We need the living and abiding word of God. John then goes on to speak of the Spirit of understanding, the anointing for community and the anointing by which leaders perceive community. All of these have been explored in the past, but John believes that there is yet another level to which we are meant to attain. With many Scripture references, John describes times and events where God has put on a particular person the anointing for a given task. The person who would have greater grace, says John, must give their attention to the word of God.
While Christ encourages us to have childlike faith, the Bible doesn't encourage us to stay as children, but to mature and grow. In a continuation of the Every Man Perfect series, which is for all people, not just for men, Philip Alley discusses what it means to grow and mature in Christ and faith. This is for the benefit of others, and the kingdom of God.
Mark Twain said, in a well-known quote, “Clothes make the man……naked people have little or no influence on society”. In his message, Philip Alley draws a parallel between this statement and the matter of being clothed spiritually. The Bible has much to say about what we should be spiritually clothed with, and what is to be put off and got rid of. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, instructed the people to get rid of anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, deception, evil desire and greed. Paul then goes on to say that we are to be clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. James describes evil thoughts as showing favouritism and discriminating against others. Immature people, says Philip, react while mature persons respond. Philip then goes on to describe the spiritual armour that Paul speaks of in his letter to the Ephesians, giving detail of the attributes of each item and the purpose of each one. Philip closes with a quote from Paul. “When you have done everything to stand, stand firm”.
How does a congregation with a vibrant family life and many young people, go about handling some of the more sensitive areas of life. As young people grow up, they often have many questions about these areas. Listen to John Alley describe the position of Peace Christian Church and how it handles the areas of dating and alcohol in its congregational life, and with young people in particular.
John Alley commences his message with a reading from the book of Jeremiah which teaches that our lives are not our own – it is not for a man to direct his own steps. John then goes to the book of Luke, emphasizing the need for repentance. God is patient and merciful, says John, and while He gives another chance for His people to repent, there is a point where, if left too long, the person is unable to repent. John goes on to discuss the need to rebuild the Church Council. Weak leadership, says John, causes the flock to be scattered. John reads from Acts and Luke, teaching on what makes a real man. Real men, says John, are tender hearted, generous and hard working, ready to help others and full of the Holy Spirit. John concludes his message with discussion of the things with which we are meant to be clothed, never being separated from Christ our head.
When a nation loses its way spiritually, says John Alley, other things slide also. This statement was in response to a recent report that the standards of students’ results in learning have become drastically lower than previously. However, says John, by our prayers the Lord turns all things around to show His glory. John goes on to state that everything goo din this world can be traced back to the gospel – medal breakthroughs, care for the aged and underprivileged and great inventions all had their beginnings in Christianity. However, when an atheistic society gets hold of these good things and twists them to an extreme position, corruption occurs. John refers to Colossians 1:28, where reference is made to “every man perfect”, explaining that according to Scripture we all should strive to be perfect as God is perfect. John emphasizes the need for strong men in leadership in the Church. We must be very prayerful, says John, in these times when there is an agenda afoot to twist and distort that which God meant for good.
The basics of spiritual warfare are being aware that we have an enemy, and knowing how to pray and resist. It is less scary than we think, and yet we must be aware of His schemes. As Eve was deceived with what seemed plausible, so spiritual warfare is waged against God's people in ways that fit in our understanding. Jesus Christ when tempted resisted Satan because He knew the scripture. This sermon takes us to the starting place of spiritual warfare, which is prayer, scripture, and not looking at people as the problem.
It is very important, says John Alley, to hear the word of God and to take it into our souls. Beginning with Luke 11:27-28, John unpacks Scripture to counteract the attempt of our enemy to destroy Christian culture in Western civilization, part of which is the attack on the traditional family unit. John takes the listeners on a “tour” of Bible teaching on the subject of God’s plan for a man, a woman and children. It was not man who invented marriage, and neither can he redefine it. says John – it was God’s idea and His creation. Man can make laws, but those laws cannot change the natural order of things in the world. The basic family unit exists in every culture – because that is the natural order that Jesus put into place. John completes his message with an insightful quote by G K Chesterton, along with a recommendation of a book pertaining to the subject at hand.
In Luke 15, says Philip Alley, there are three parables. All along a similar theme of something (or someone) being lost and then the great joy when found. God is very happy when that which was lost is found – he seeks the restoration of sinners constantly. Philip goes on to examine in more detail the parable of the lost, or prodigal, son. He draws the comparison between the characteristics of the lost son and of the older son, before going on to describe the orphan heart and the steps that lead to this condition. In closing, Philip states that “God does not change. We are the ones who choose whether we view God as a taskmaster whose approval we cannot win, or a God of peace, joy and love.
How we speak to God comes in varying flavours or moods. You could be aggressive, humble, uncertain, angry, confident or others. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray in Luke 11, what mood was Jesus praying in? Listen and find out.
Salvation and discipleship, says Tony Ponicke, are inseparable – they go together. Tony goes on to explore many Scripture verses to illustrate that while salvation is a free gift, it costs us everything as we surrender all to the Lord. The first cost of following Christ can be the loss of relationships – not all of our families and friends will like it when we become Christians. Then there is the cost of our material goods and finances as we surrender those to Christ. Not that it is a bad thing to have money and possessions, but we must hold everything very loosely and in submission to Jesus. Also, our worldly pleasures and leisure activities must be laid at the foot of t the cross. We need to humble our hearts and live totally surrendered to the will and purposes of God.
Solomon prayed for the people of God and God responded with a precious promise (2 Chronicles 6 and 7). Today, says Jonathan Maxwell, we are the temple and we are the priests. Jesus Himself is our intercessor and we have the promises in a more complete way. There are needs in the nation, in our own city and in our individual lives, says Jonathan, and no matter what is going on around us, the solution begins with us. Our prayers make a huge difference, whether or not we believe we are good pray-ers, because of the faith of Christ who prayed for us. In conclusion, Jonathan reminds the people “God has not changed. The things he did in the past, he can do today. But it starts with the individual believer – with me!”
If you were in a room full of money and were told we could have as much as we wanted, how much effort would we make in collecting it? Would we work for five minutes then stop satisfied we had "done our bit for the day." Or would we complain about the lack of air conditioning as we pick up money. Or would we complain that "it's boring picking up all this money." Prayer holds higher value to us that money does, and yet we seem to not be aware of the value of the currency of heaven. How much should we pray? The answer is, as much as possible.
Names are powerful as this sermon by Philip Alley points out. The Bible has a lot to say about the name of God, and in the early parts of the Bible, God was reluctant to give too much information. But as the story of God progresses in history we see Christ as being the revelation of God. Jesus tells us to pray "in His name" and that has a great meaning, far beyond simply being a 'magical' phrase. This sermon will prompt you to think and consider the God we have, and the power in His name.
John Alley takes up the thread with his strong belief that the grace of God is meant to fall on Central Queensland in its entirety, not just our city and surrounds. We really ought to be praying, says John, for the transformation of Central Queensland. The borders are porous too, so that the blessing can “leak out” to surrounding areas as we do the work of prayer. God is always ready to pour out grace, but our prayers must be strengthened in order to see the outcome we seek. John encourages all to be part of the morning prayer meetings, as well as Friday night prayer and the Youth meetings. John goes on to give six “conditions” for answered prayer including being in Christ, praying in the name of Jesus, the health of our relationships, having a clean heart, belief and praying according to the will of God before concluding the message with a reading from Deuteronomy 13:12-13.
Jonathan Maxwell brings a moving and thought provoking message, beginning with his own story of making the choice to be open and honest in all situations. Reading from the book of Hebrews, Jonathan reinforces that “as long as it is called ‘today’”, we are meant to encourage one another. God puts brokenness in our lives, says Jonathan, so that we remain dependent on Him. And there are times when our honesty in our brokenness can be of great encouragement to others. Jonathan then invites others to share their own hearts, and a great many of the people do so.

When the early church shared the gospel, the resurrection of Christ was a key component. You won't find an example in the Bible where it was left out. But what about our gospel sharing?
Do we ever make the resurrection a key feature. It's important that we do, because the resurrection has implications for the Body of Christ and for each believer. In listening to this message you will hear 8 proofs for the resurrection as a physcial historical event. And also 5 things which are implications for your life as a believer today.
John Alley begins his message with a photo report from recent ministry travels to Canada, USA, Switzerland and South Africa. Interspersed with accounts of ministry in these places and lives touched, John goes on to state, “The anointing is increasing.” John then takes the listener on a historical tour of the way that the Lord has led the people of Peace in matters of prayer, most specifically listening prayer. We need to get back to listening prayer, this is only the beginning of what God is planning to do says John. God is planning to make us a holy people. This will require the total surrender of our hearts. John also touches on the subject of the teaching on sonship and the matter of honouring others, before announcing a day of listening prayer and encouraging as many as possible to attend.
With disappointment surrounding them, Cleopas and his friend headed down the road to Emmaus. It seemed Jesus was not what he said He was. They were disillusioned. It was in those moments that Jesus walked with these two believers, but they were unaware. In this message Philip Alley discusses a number of key points from the Emmaus story, and helps us understand how God uses disappointment in our lives, and what can come out of it.
Following on from Easter, Philip Alley speaks of the traditional season of Eastertide, the 50 days between Resurrection Sunday and Pentecost. Today, the first Sunday after Easter, is traditionally called Low (or Laus) Sunday, or St Thomas Sunday. It was one week after Thomas’ well known expression of doubt in the resurrection of Christ that he actually managed to see and touch the wounds on Jesus’ body.
Somehow, Thomas is most widely known for his doubt, and yet in other mentions of him in the Bible, he is revealed as being extremely loyal, truthful and inquisitive. Philip goes on to discuss the true nature and causes of doubt. Doubt is not the opposite of faith, states Philip. In fact, honest doubts, once resolved, become the bedrock of an unshakeable faith – or, as someone has said, “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving”
Philip concludes his message with a list of 5 ways to move on from a place of doubt, encouraging the believers to fix their hope to the sild person of our Rock.

Philip Alley begins his message with a statement – we need to understand spiritual things by spiritual means, looking through the obvious to the actual. So what is reality? Our ability, says Philip, to put together the physical and spiritual realms will determine the outcome of our lives and our faith. If we live in the tangible world alone, it cripples us spiritually. How then can we rest our values on something that is temporary and will not last? Philip then goes on to discuss Palm Sunday, the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. The people thought that Jesus had come to set up a physical kingdom. He did set up a kingdom, but it was a spiritual one. Philip encourages the listeners to examine their own lives to determine whether there is fruit. Is the river of life flowing through us a individuals? So why are we here? Philip describes the original plan of God as seen in Genesis 1. We are designed and created to become the likeness of God in the world and to rule and reign over all creation. In the beginning, says Philip, man was an expression of the person and power of God. Then came the fall of man. After the fall, Jesus came as the perfect expression of the person and power of God. Not only did Jesus come, but He made the way open for each of us who believe to be saved and to realise the purpose of God for us.

When the gospel comes to us it challenges us to change, but not everyone is challenged the same way. Living in a society which feels entitled, the gospel of Christ challenges that. Beginning with the story of Doug, a travelling evangelist from the UK, John Alley discusses the rewards and the trials of living for Christ. John Alley shows in scripture a number of examples of people who responded in various ways to the call of the gospel as it affected them. How will you respond to what Christ asks of you?
John Alley explores some of the history of Peace Christian Church. The miraculous provision of God through His people, enabled us to put into Rockhampton a world class facility still being used by the the Body of Christ today. John then turns to scripture and continues the theme of exploring purposeful and planned giving as seen in the Bible.
In previous weeks John Alley has given an overview of Old Testament accounts of planned giving among believers. Today he provides a guided tour of 2 Corinthians, Chapters 8 and 9. These chapters were written as teaching for a planned giving programme that Paul was running at the time. John follows this with a photo report of the time that he and Hazel spent in PNG, teaching the principles of Christina giving to people of tribal descent, for the main non-English speaking people who were only half a generation removed from a very primitive lifestyle. John tells of outstanding results in these new churches and explains that if it is not too heard for those people to take hold of Christina giving, then it cannot be too difficult for the believer today. John speaks with the children of the congregation, explaining the proper us of money while emphasizing that they have a choice as to how to utilize money, before calling on 2 church leaders for their testimonies of giving to the work of God.
As a starting point for his third message in this current series, John Alley recaps briefly last week’s teaching regarding planned giving programmes as told in the Bible. John goes on to state that those in leadership need to set a good example for others in the matter of giving. In this case, John is referring not only to Church leaders but to those who could be considered financial leaders, those who have influence. It is important that these people give a good example for those of lesser means.
John poses a question: “God is a God of miracles, Why, then, does He not simply provide miraculously for every need?” John goes on to show from Scripture that God is building a people together, while building the hearts and thoughts of individual believers. There is no such thing as community, says John, without financial commitment. John teaches from some six or seven Scripture verses around the subject of tithes and offerings, emphasizing the difference in nature and purpose of the tithe and the offering. In conclusion, John asks the people to consider seriously during the coming week, how each one might play their own part in growing the church with a view to making a financial pledge to the work of God. . It is important, says John, to have a plan of action so that the decision reached is a prayerfully considered one that is far more likely to be followed through than would be a glib decision. It is spiritually good for us, says John, to think about these matters and examine our hearts
Continuing on with his series of messages about financial miracles and how to position one’s self to be eligible to receive them, John Alley gives several anecdotes to illustrate the outworking of being in the position to receive such grace. Any word, God speaks, say John, has power if we can come into the place of believing and taking hold of it. John speaks of various instances of God’s provision before recounting the way in which he, personally, began to tithe before he was even born again, and has continued to this day not only to tithe but also to give liberally of his substance as the need arises. John then goes on to give some four examples from Scripture of planned giving as recorded in the Bible record of events in history. But when the call comes to a body of believers, says John, to give sacrificially into the work of God, it only becomes a personal call for those who are willing. The children of Israel in the desert, King David, the Corinthian church and the Macedonians were all named in the Bible as people who gave in a planned way. This message, full of grace, encourages the listener to prayerfully consider what they, as an individual, can contribute towards to corporate work of God.
Everybody loves a financial miracle, says John Alley, however there is groundwork which must be in place in the life of the believer before such miracles are able to occur. John gives anecdotal evidence of great financial miracles that have come about both in his personal life and also in the life of Peace. John quotes Luke 16:10 – 12 which begins with the well-known statement, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” This text reinforces John’s emphasis on the importance of faithfulness and integrity in the life of the believer in establishing the grace that is available to every believer. John then gives a “checklist” of things that we can do in order to establish this grace. These include getting into faith and staying there; watching the details of our lives for breaches of faithfulness which will create a hindrance; and being obedient and willing to hear God’s voice and to act on it. John closes with the following statement: “Faith is the foundation for everything we become and everything we achieve.”
David Alley begins his message with some information on the life and writings of St Augustine, author of the book “The City of God”. The city of God is not a physical place – no, the kingdom of God lives within the hearts of believers. Most people, if asked, will affirm that they are “good people”. However, the word of God teaches us that sin begins in the mind and heart. The only reason that many people do not act out of these sinful desires is a fear of the law and its consequences. But laws can only change external behaviours - they cannot change the heart of a man or woman. It is only when we allow Jesus full access to our hearts and fully submit to Him that He is able to change our hearts. St Paulinus, a contemporary of Augustine, stated that “There is nothing that can be taken from you if you have Jesus”. Clearly, we need our hearts and desires to be changed; but how do we go about this? David gives three suggestions to set the feet on the right path. These include asking God to show us the love of God and the change our hearts by the love; study of the Bible; and tithing. Each of these will help us in our endeavour to live God-focused lives.
God wants to bring His people to a new place, to usher us into a whole new order of things. While we do know the Lord, and know His love, we should come to truly know Him, and truly know His love. It's the same, and yet somehow quite different. What we need is more light. This is something God gives and we should seek Him for it.
Philip Alley tells of a Cherokee teaching involving two “wolves” that are within every person. One is bad, with pride, arrogance and a whole host of wrong attitudes while the other is a good wolf, filled with love, peace and every good thing. The answer to the question “which wolf wins?” is simple. The one that you feed wins. Our world, says Philip, is a constant feed of information, vying for our attention and our resources. By nature, people are impatient and reluctant to wait when something seems to be taking too long. Philip then goes on to speak of “call and response”, a principle on which all things are founded. In the beginning, God spoke and it came to be. God has called us to listening prayer – but the enemy of our souls calls to us too, in many different guises. Taking the example of Jesus when tempted in the wilderness, Phillip advises that the best response to a false call should be silence. Do not enter into dialogue with an enemy. Philip goes on to describe aids to a proper response to God, including meditation, study and solitude before giving 5 keys to measuring our response to God. These include Pausing and reflecting, reviewing and recording, obtaining outside perspective, finding time alone and seeking good examples. As Philip says, we get to choose!
How can two best friends become sworn enemies? This is the question posed by Philip Alley as he commences today’s message. The answer lies in the matter of offence taken by one or both parties. Philip goes on to describe the progression of offence. A careless word or unmet expectation, if nursed and rehearsed long enough, becomes a garbage dump of fire in the heart – a living hell, says Philip. Satan’s agenda is destruction, his strategy division, and a common tactic is offence. From the Scriptures, Philip exhorts the listeners to settle matters quickly, while still together so that the plan of the enemy is deterred. Philip describes the place and purpose of boundaries in our lives as well as the instruction of 2 Corinthians 10:15 – take every thought captive so that the offense is not driven down deep to become a festering wound. Our perfect example, of course, is Jesus, who refused to let offence take hold in His heart. Philip concludes with a quote from Lewis B Smedes. “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was me”.

At the start of a New Year, says Philip Alley, our focus is usually forward – what we plan to do and look forward to. However if we would look back, and recognise God’s faithfulness and His workings in our lives, we would find cause for gratitude. Philip speaks of three levels of gratitude: Provision, Presence and Purpose. The first, Provision, Philip likens to a child in a high chair, learning to say thanks for what is given to him. The second, Presence, is the banqueting table where we are able to return thanks to God for all things. “It is well with my soul”. Then at the third level, Purpose, Philip draws a parallel with prison food. We give thanks and express gratitude because of the goodness of God, including gratitude for those things that don’t seem particularly palatable to us. Sometimes, says Philip, God is trying to bring something good out of us, but we are too busy complaining about the “ingredients” of God’s plan to recognise His hand in the whole. Philip closes the message with encouragement to become a people who give thanks for everything.
